  1. Anyone else get the feel that AoC is the more upscale, mature MMO out these days? Sure it has bad apples playing but for the most part it doesn't seem to attract young kids. I guess because you can auto attack afk. Theres just no LOLSAUCE PWNED! going on. Its nice.
  2. Nice. My ToS is at 493/180 or so right now. I've been doing a ton of group PvP ( 6v6 ) in leveling areas and have been trying to take on really difficult Pvp matches so I've died a good bit. Still I'm pretty happy about it. Also, there is a new patching schedule to where we will have 1, larger, patch on Wensdays. With the inclusion of the new test server we should see much more concise and complete patch notes and much much less bugs getting introduced into the game. PvP Review: Speaking of PvP, I've experienced a ton of real group PvP the past few days. See, a lot of the "major" leveling spots (grant the best XP) are fairly small in size. What this means is that, while there are multiple instances, chances are you're going to have to fight for a spot. However the fun ramps up when you realize that people would be crazy to do this place with no less than 4 or 5 players. Generally a full group, 6 players, comes here. Because of this I have gotten the most 6v6 group PvP in any game I have ever played. Hell man, I don't even think in a battleground in WoW groups were this determained. Unlike some group PvP that happens in WoW, often by an instance stone, it usually ends with the "losing group" running into the instance like a bunch of [kitties]. There is no, absolutly no, recoil or consequence for them to lose control of the meeting stone and as such the PvP suffers. However in Conan you're looking at a situation where, if your group doesn't go, you're going to have to find some solo quests or (if they're all exhausted) solo grind. Because of this PvP gets really damn intense and players are generally at the top of their game. And really, Age of Conan serves its self very well for group PvP. The idea to make almost all of the healing in the game HoT based, save for a few big heal CD's, really makes the game that much better. And, unlike some games, the PvP encounters take some real group dynamic and skill. The key, of course, is learning what to focus on. While usually most will focus on the healer because of the HoT idea in this game players may be better off bursting a high DPS, low def, target. Of course this all depends on so many factors, it's silly to put it down to one simple procedure. Conan does a very good job of making sure that "team X" doesn't have a skill set that will demolish "team Y" and it really does reward thinking a bit outside of the box for groups. While the general healer/DPS/CC or whatever combo does work well, there is no reason why other team matchups won't work as well. Likewise, as I said before, skill is a huge factor. The other night I was PvPing with 3 other guildies, a 40 PoM , 66 Conq, 74 barb and me, a 69 ToS. We were all apped up to level 73 from the barb, so our damage output was (obviously) higher. However the funny thing is that, especially the level 40, your HP really does not go up much at all. So we're PvPing with a squishy PoM, who does not have near all of his utility yet, and a 66 conq. We go up against another full group of players who had a healer who was ~50 apped up to 74. Well, all the rest of them were 75 and we managed to win. Yeah, 4v6 and we had 2 lowbies. Hell, I was fairly low as well -- missing out on some key skills @70. Skill really helped us edge out the fight, and reactions had something to do with it too I think. I really do shudder to think that, if 6v6 is this much fun, what 48v48 will be like. Or, say in the future, what 100v100 may be like. And, yes, Funcom has stated that there will be Alliance sieges in the game with a much larger cap. Really if Funcom just gets the game optimized more to suit a 48v48 encounter PvP will be [bleep] golden here. ---- Anyways, I'm like 7 bars away from level 70. Somehow managed to get 60-69 in a [bleep] weekend (with sat having power out from like 8pm to the next morning). Funny thing is I spent a lot of time helping out guildies and doing other stuff (playing Rock Band a lot with brother/sister) Thats what i love about AoC. The HoT heals are great. It gives much more flexibility to healers and makes it so its not a continuous pressing of 1 button the whole fight to spam heals. Also this game, at least in the lower levels is definitely not gear based. Though it plays some part, it all comes down to who is smarter with their combos, active blocking, where they strike, etc. Its in depth. Where as in WoW if it was Tier 3 against Tier 1, the Tier 3 wins every time.
  3. [hide=] I strongly disagree, for an unemployed/poor person, the army signing bonuses are a huge jackpot and a pathway into better life. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 01266.html $20,000 is a gigantic load of cash for an unemployed person. That's more than you'd likely make working 1 year at McDonald's, just for signing up. You get salary on top of that. [/hide] Know what they don't tell you? That bonus is thrown into your paycheck, taxed, and then given to you over an X number of months or years. You will never see the full 20,000 or however much it is. AND you must have good pros/cons each year to keep it otherwise they take it back. Signing bonuses really are a joke. Right, because they have gone through the training we have, have the marksmanship we have, have the tactical training we have.....i seriously doubt that. No country would be throwing all of those soldiers into one place anyway so really debating the size of the total army is worthless.
  4. Depends which game you are playing. Vista > XP for gaming IMO. Sorry i don't play Oregon Trail anymore. But i have had 0 problems running vista and games like CoD4, Age of Conan, WoW, etc.
  5. Eew 9600GT......might as well spend like $30-40 more and get an 8800GT. The X600 cards all suck balls. (8600, 9600, etc). At least IMO. I'd look for 3GB+ RAM, a 500GB HD (just my preference...i'm into photography so i store a lot of pics on my computer and run lots of applications.) 7200RPM at least and i prefer Seagate or Western Digital brands. Of course if you buy prebuilt you arn't going to have a lot of play in the way of your choice of parts. Thats why i prefer custom jobs rather then prebuilts. Not to mention its cheaper to do custom.
  6. Oh no, unemployment is probably the #1 reason people join the military, or their fathers who've been talking about joining it since they could comprehend communication. No one forces them to sign that contract. You could probably make more working up through the McDonalds chain for a job then a short stint in the Military (not including any bonuses). Even then the signing bonuses are a joke.
  7. Our bear shaman is a BEAST (no pun intended ;)). His heals are awesome. We might try out the Tomb. Where are the cannibal caves?
  8. Only 20,000? :-# College ball down here gets over twice that number lol. I've known some decent players to head up to the great white north to play.
  9. Lol. Question. Me an my friends (we are all level 45-51) are looking for instances to run. Mainly for gear but also just to do it. Would like something with the choice of Epic or Normal if possible. We just did the one in Potain today with a level 45 Bear Shaman, 45 Barb, and a level 50 DT was hella fun. Where should we go? Any ideas? All we ever to get is caster cloth crap. And while its fun slaving though really hard instances with 3 people we like rewards...
  10. Nadril! WoW iz srs bizness!
  11. Its not being cocky, its being confident! But being all volunteer i'd like to think we are better prepared mentally. No one forces us to do this, we do it because we WANT to. That speaks volumes above a conscripted army. A conscripted army to me is one on the verge of revolt. And i TOTALLY disagree china is more ready militarily. We have MEU's all over the WORLD. Basically strike forces ready to deploy withen 24-48 hours of stuff jumping off. Our airwings and strike forces that are carrier based strategically placed around the world can be ready to go in a matter of hours. They have numbers, but we have technology and readyness.
  12. Currently yes, but thats only because no one else feels the need to flex their muscles. The US could easily have competition from other countries....the other countries just arn't as open about everything like the US. But yes, we are.
  13. Its not about physical shown strength, its about the core strength. I've seen some of the smallest guys do some amazing stuff during PT. Like 30+ pullups. As for keeping with this thread, heres an older one of me....i look really young. Don't index. [hide=][/hide] You got some BIG ears in that pic. Sad to say, it ain't just in that pic. :( :x lol.
  14. We're talking about a state that has legal prostitution in some counties, come on lol.
  15. MSN Messenger (windows Live), Yahoo messenger, and Skype all do it.

  17. So true, so true. Not only does it not seem that great but it basically sucks being pinned down by bills and rent. If i were you i wouldn't be so anxious, work a lot and save your money while living at home. You will be glad you did. Happy bday.
  18. Knives ARE cutlery. Disturbing why and how? You want to believe we live in a squishy nice peaceful world with care bears running around and us floating on clouds? People own guns and knives as well as collect them, get over it IMO. Why collect if you arn't going to show your collection off?
  19. Its possible to cause a crash. I'd say as long as its the same speed (Example PC6400) then it should be ok. DDR2 and DDR arn't interchangeable and the motherboard will specify which it can take. Some new mobos take both DDR2 and DDR3 i believe. I like to stick with an even amount, like 2 sticks at a time, same size same speed, etc. Just to be safe. Of course someone with more experience might chime in...
  20. I am a classic Canon 300D user (Gah so out of date ;)) and i also own a Nikon D70. I'd pick up the Canon before the Nikon anyday. Feels better in my hand, lighter, and it seems i can get better overall quality pictures with it. Both are good no doubt, i just personally prefer the canon. DEFIENTLY go to the store and hold them before you buy. You need to feel them in your hand to make a good decision. Amazing lens btw! I got to play around with my friend's. Its next on my list of lenses to get. The Canon 60mm Macro is very nice as well, both on par with each other...just kinda depends on what you wanna shoot with it. Another thing you're gonna eventually want to look at is a new flash/flash setup. The onboard just won't cut it when you are doing true macro photography IMO. Not needed right away, but down the road def something to consider getting.
  21. Lol. You got me, thats good. I love when that happens to me.
  22. A respectable house, a good family with a wife and 2-3 kids, and a long safe law enforcement career. Thats my realistic ideal life. Dreams go way beyond.
  23. Everyone has to start somewhere. You arn't born knowing about computers, only one way to learn. And you can only read so much about them, doing prac app is how you are really taught.
  24. So i was farming some resources tonight and came across this. Umm Funcom?? That don't look like a maple tree to me....;)
  25. To man left wingers IMO. Looks like i'm creeping up to Hitler...
