The problem with your idea is that it isn't possible for no-one to have power. In a society powered purely by competition, the large corporations dominate, and eventually become government. You also face the possiblity of mob rule. Drugs are an excellent way to make money and drug trade naturally leads to the formation of cartels focused around self-government and led by one especially powerful rich guy. Humans also have a tendency to form government. If there is no legal, open gov't, an illegal one will be created. Mexico is the perfect example. Parts of it are essentially ruled by the cartels, which, contrary to what the US gov't would like you to think, fulfilled many of the positive aspects of goverment. Its only mob rule if the people are not able to escape their leadership. If the leadership isnt geographically based you can simply join another police protection agency that has its own sets of laws if the one near you is oppresive, and you have to be allowed to do so even if you are a renter and the land owner supports one agency. This system worked in both medieval ireland and iceland. That would not be mob rule and the natural elite would have power ~ only if they please their customers. A cartel does not need to please its customers and it can simply tell them fight for me or I will kill your family. Well, no. It is now a government by the "natural elite" who would have power, regardless of whether or not they please their customers. Democracy ensures that the gov't pleases its customers.- Today...
Similar, except instead of allowing annexation and the remilitarization of the Rhineland, I just can't make it all artsy shots or shots that take advantage of how hot the girls in my group are. Which let me tell you, they are [bleep]ing hot. Just remember, pics or it didn't happen. The Rhineland thing that is. I expect those films to show up either in the "Relationships" thread, the "Today" thread, or the "Philosophy" thread. Or maybe that "What keeps you coming back" one that I haven't read yet.- Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Receiving the news that I had a snow day always gave me such a joyful feeling. I love sleeping in. Although I haven't had one since I moved to a peninsula. We get hurricane days here. I want hurricane days :( Now, having a snow day just means I don't work so don't get paid, so unfortunately the novelty has worn off a little. Seriously though, we've gotten so wimpy in regards to snow days. I remember when I was in elementary school we'd have a foot of snow and things would be fine. Now if we get like one inch they cancel things... I disagree. During snow days, you get to wake up, look out the window, feel happy for once during the depressing days of winter, etc., and get to go out sledding or throw snowballs or just have fun in general. I've never experienced a hurricane day before, but I imagine it would be slightly exciting but mostly fearful. Plus, you can't pack together 70 mph winds and throw them at your annoying brothers.- Philosophy, Riddles and complete mind[bleep]s
I think you guys misunderstood my question when I asked about war. I was mainly thinking of the benefits for the agressive country and the culture. The examples I have in mind are the wars conducted by the US during the Cold War and, more recently, in the Middle East. -War is (questionably) beneficial to the economy -Many important cultural movements occur as a reaction to (or are influenced by) wars Interesting. It may have been in an older version. I also remember hearing somewhere that it was a pear tree. That was me. The problem with your idea is that it isn't possible for no-one to have power. Piano Concerto in F - Gershwin It's got rhythm.- More USA documents get released by Wikileaks
I'm willing to entrust them with my life. After all, they all just wanna help out, right? For a liberal, you seem pretty paranoid of the government. For a conservative, you seem pretty dismissive of the concepts this country was founded on. The USA has always been about openness, but when we stumble across an immoral war, a bad president, and a bunch of knuckleheaded military gun-nuts, it gets hard to find the statistics. Assange's seemingly extremist actions would be unnecessary had the government stuck to its own principles in the first place. But I'll let you be. After all, questioning authority is sinful, right? You seem pretty caught up on this blonde. My advice: masturbation.- Off Topic Rants Section
I agree with the above, and would like to say I think there wouldn't be enough traffic. Also, I would not want to go to a subforum that encourages whining. A couple topics is fine, but a subforum full of whining? Ick.- Today...
Y u so rebel, brah? I bet I know why Gaia Forums didn't like you. All of TIF is a time sink. Yeah, you might pick up a few skills along the way, but most of us are here because we don't want to spend time on whatever we're supposed to be doing. At least that's true for me, maybe the rest of you just don't have any irl friends ;) I actually enjoyed both, but I can see why you wouldn't like them. Dracula was longer, but Frankenstein was denser. And the story is nothing like the Hollywood version.- More USA documents get released by Wikileaks
http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/30/wikileaks-julian-assange/ For those wondering, this was a few months ago. Sweden was Assange's safehouse at the time, being very protective of its freedom of speech and journalism laws. He had planned to get a journalism career in Sweden so as to be protected by its laws from the far-reaching fingers of the US gov't. Two women who he may or may not have had relationships with, but were at least acquaintances of his, somehow accused him of the crime. When it was clear that Assange was not in Sweden and could not be "brought in for questioning", the charges were all dropped and it became clear that the women were lying. It seems to have been an attempt to imprison or harm Assange, but the people behind it are unclear. The US gov't is not the only powerful organization interested in him, and it is not the most dangerous one either.- Philosophy, Riddles and complete mind[bleep]s
What do you mean by deep thought? Intellectual advancement. Cultural movements. It's really open for interpretation, as many movements may have been negative, but it's often from times of turmoil that we see the most important ideas and people emerge. I'll disprove when I get home, if nobody else has.- Today...
Wierd night. Went to bed at 5 PM, and woke up a bunch of times throughout the night. Once, I got up to check the time, and saw that it was 12:15 PM. I realized this couldn't be right, as that would be the afternoon, so I went to change my clock, and looked out the window. It was afternoon. I got annoyed that I had missed all my classes (today's a half-day), then woke up. I had dreamt it. I checked the time again and it was 2:15 AM. I didn't fall asleep again after that.- Philosophy, Riddles and complete mind[bleep]s
Does economic downturn inhibit or encourage deep thought? Is recession necessary for a nation? What about war?- More USA documents get released by Wikileaks
Conspiracy theories and relative morality of Assange's actions aside, Wikileaks's existence does raise a very important question: Who watches the watchmen? I watched it and it was decent but there are better superhero films. Anyways, whether the info about Assange being a massive egotist* is true or not, it's clear that giving one person or group of people power over governments is dangerous, for as soon as he becomes anything he is no longer "the people". I support what Wikileaks does, but it's completely possible for there to be corruption among the whistleblowers themselves, either now or in the future. *I will not provide links. I read either in the NY Times or the New Yorker an account by a former Wikileaks employee which portrayed Mr. A. in a rather negative light. Whether it was true or not is not the question- what I am saying is it could be true. There are no limitations, no controls, nobody looking on to Wikileaks to tell them not to do something. This is the sort of power that gets abused eventually, and then we'll start seeing "Wikileaksleaks."- What are you listening to right now!?

I also like the water ones, especially the second to last, although I agree your focus is off. I don't know as much about photography as Latios, but it's pretty clear that the dock should be shifted left so as to capture more water and less board. I like the sort of faded tone in the last one, but the way it inhibits detail in some parts is no good.- Today...
I found out about a week or two ago that the classes I was taking weren't going to help at all in what my goal was. I also noticed myself rapidly falling behind in the classes so I decided to drop them both before the withdrawal deadline. Basically, I drop the classes by a certain date and keep my transcript clean, or I stay, fail, and put the F's on instead. So I dropped them. I wish I could have done that. Depressing song ): Yep :) But it's sort of cheerful if you don't listen to the lyrics. It's a cool effect. lolbritish OT: Smashing Pumpkins - Tom Tom They just released it on their site http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/- What are you listening to right now!?

Actually, anyone who does a little research could tell you Russia has a good deal of corruption in its government. Assange would really just be drawing more attention to it.- What are you listening to right now!?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZZfpOjlYvg&feature=BF&list=PL4FA8A7715CCE1FF1&index=1 I made a Youtube playlist of all of the tracks from the movie and will be listening to it all day. I can't remember what reminded me of this film, but it was awesome and I would definitely reccommend it, if only for the music.
