  1. Caution: You are walking into a Text Wall Zone. So now your stating that any question that a person asks should be about reaching maximum efficiency, or they shouldn't post at all? Because that's basically what you just said when you quoted his post.. Help & Advice is a forum for players about asking for help and advice for any question and any answer, not just limited to the most efficient. And yes, not naming names, there are "efficiency trolls" in the H&A forum on a daily basis, and you know exactly who you are with the smile on your face after every post in the H&A section. I am not against efficiency, so don't assume that I'm one of the naysayers that efficiency is bad bad bad! "Efficiency trolls" have one major flaw that makes them a troll.. The flaw is when advice becomes mandatory. But Katori!, Nobody forces anyone to do anything over the internet! Let me give an example. 1-2 weeks ago there was a thread on the H&A section about a player wishing to have a rate at which Rocktails could be caught for money and xp. There were a few posts, some helpful, and some which offered advice that more efficient methods could be to do another style of fishing for faster xp, and then kill frost dragons with that "gained time" to gain more xp and GP in the time-frame allotted. THIS IS FINE! O_o What? Yes, its fine. I'm A-OK with players giving advice from every angle of opportunity. A problem then arises, which is how the "efficiency troll" appears. The original poster states he is not interested in such a method, and would rather take the path of the slow rocktails. He/She is only interested in the AFK values for this method. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! At this point, the "effencicy trolls" arrive. Posts start to pour in stating that if your not going to do something better if it's available, then why ask advice for the 2nd rate thing. Posts contain flame bait stating how fishing rocktails is not the best method for anything.. Posts about how players or methods are "stupid" or a "waste of time"... If you post in a H&A fourm, you are entitled to give your advice on any topic you feel you can be helpful. I'm not assuming that's what H&A is for.. that's what the rules say its for. If the original poster comes back and states he is not interested in your ideas, you need to walk away. Posting that your ideas are superior IS flamebait (and thus trolling). I'm sorry if you feel it isn't but that doesn't change that a drug addiction is an addiction. Players are often addicted to the H&A forum for a place to give their "advice". If you post your advice more than once in a thread where the OP said he/she is not interested in your method, not only are you trolling & Flamebaiting, but you are also committing a personal attack because you don't know when you back off. Those that have been banned for "efficiency trolling" have rightfully been banned. It makes no difference if your giving advice which you think is right. Repeating a concept (which you or another player has already posted) several times in a thread is spamming. Telling a poster repeatedly to do something they posted they are not interested in doing is a personal attack. Posting that a paticular method is stupid or "x is better", or "if you don't want the best advice, don't post" is flamebait (trolling). All are bannable offenses. Its neither helpful, nor good advice, to state the way a player is doing something is "wrong". And if you think telling another player they are doing something wrong is good advice, then you are most likely one of those trolls. Post your advice. If they take it, fine. if they don't and you can't accept the fact that someone won't take your advice, perhaps your more addicted than you let yourself believe...
  2. In response to the Livid Farm article: I agree with the article in most aspects, such as the need that players should have to "work for it" to get the best spells/items/things available to them. The only issue I really have is the implementation of how we work. Some MMO's treat the "work-for-it" aspect in a limit, rather than constant content. For example, in a certain MMO I play, you get points for killing a world boss and can only get x points per day. Killing the boss only takes about 5-10 minutes with everyone on the server chipping in. It takes about 30 days of saved up points from killing the boss to get some useful items. The big difference (and downfall in my opinion) between Runescape and other MMO's is that RS applies almost all concepts to a grind point of view. If you could do the livid farm for say 1 hour a day maximum for 10 days, it still applies the fact you have to sink in alot of time for it, however it would remove the "undesired muck" associated with requiring large hours of constant content that has to be grinded. It would be even better if Jagex applied a "Iban Staff" type concept to the livid farm where you had to "recharge" your spells after so many charges, while unlocking them required little to no charges at all. Requiring players to come back and play to recharge their spells every 200 casts or so would keep people playing it. If you don't do that, in 4-5 weeks pass, and once everyone has grinded their way to 40 hours... nobody is there aside from the occasional 1 or 2 players still grinding. It's just my opinion, but I think Jagex need to change their focus from making minigames a long-term grind for rewards, to minigames that give rewards quickly, and then give other reasons to make players return. Stealing Creation is so populated because you only have to play 1 game for a good reward. Imagine if you have to play stealing creation for 40 hours to get a tool that lasted 20x as long as the current tools do now. Imagine if Soul Wars required 30 points to trade in for XP. Players would play, but it adds an un-needed grind aspect that could easily be avoided.
  3. Kinda looks like a Greek E Roman symbol for the number 10 is X. Could quite possibly be the 10 year cape. Although I can't remember if they said they would release that yet or not O_o. And looks like updated clan wars! Interesting.. I wonder if they will remove clan wars from the wilderness map, opening up more space. [/hope]
  4. The best thing about Barrows is that it is highly elastic on the methods you can choose, and levels that it requires. That being said.. there are certainly more "efficient" ways to complete barrows, however in all honestly you can do barrows with just about anything you want. Also you don't have to worry about crashers, or anyone trying to compete directly against you. That alone makes it more fun than GWD  Just off the top of my head, some of the common methods used are: 1) Sally-Ancient Method. Requires the use of a Salamander (black) and Ancients (ice spells) to freeze the barrows brother and then attack from the salamander from a diagonal position. This is usually labeled the most "efficient method" because it's quick and relatively cheap. 2) Verac's. If you like to go all melee, Verac's does pretty well. Its special ability lets you hit though the brothers defense. While not as quick as magic methods, if you don't have access to maxed melee stats and chaotic weapons, Verac's is usually a good route to go with. 3) Surging/Slayer Dart. Use straight up magic on all the brothers (except Ahrim) and just plow your way though them. This is the most straight-forward method, as it's mostly just pray and cast spells. 4) Other methods. You can use your best melee weapon, best magic spell, broad bolts, or frankly anything you want. You may not be able to do the barrows "quickly" however there is certainly a low minimum of what is required to complete the barrows. PS. Completing Ancient Treasure is highly recommended for a house portal to Canfis. Having a house with both an alter and Canfis portal is a very helpful setup. Above all, have fun!
  5. Trees look amazing with all the Graphics Options turned on. Looking down while running though them doesn't even look like Runescape at all! And here's a side-by-side comparison of the old vs. new. Also, this is going to be used alot here..

  7. Hello, and welcome to my FoG guide. This guide is designed for players who already have a basic understanding of what the Fist of Guthix is, and how it works. Described in this guide are more advanced tactics for moderate to higher level free-to-play players, as well as any player wishing to learn some more advanced tactics. While this guide is written for free-to-play, members can still apply some of the concepts explained in this guide to their version of Fist of Guthix. If you are just beginning Fist of Guthix, it is recommended you check out these guides for some basic information: http://forum.tip.it/topic/185588-the-finest-fist-of-guthix-strategy-guide-updated/ http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=fist_of_guthix.htm Introduction When I play Fist of Guthix (FoG) I base my play-style off three "P" words to remember; Plan, Predict, and Preform. I'll go into some detail to explain what each word means, and how it relates to improving your game! [hide=Section 1) Planning] Since you are already somewhat experienced in the game-play of FoG, your going to have an advantage over most players. A large portion of free-to-play only use the fist as a method of gain free magic experience, and there's about a 50% chance you will encounter one of these players each round. Don't let this go to your head however. There are some good free-to-play FoG'ers out there, and chances are if you play enough you will run into them at some point. It's worth being prepared for such a circumstance. So what do I use? I am a fan of Ranged combat, and Free-to-Play FoG is one place range really shines. Due to the fact a players defense is reduce to 0 towards the center of the fist, this gives range an opportunity to provide some of the fastest DPS against an opponent. With this in mind, there are a few things you should consider, and a few things you want to steer clear from when choosing equipment. Weapons you should consider: Gravite Shortbow Maple Shortbow Gravite Rapier Rune Scimitar Protip: Ranged weapons should be used with the best possible arrows. Weapons you should not consider: Sighted Maple Longbow Any Longbow Gravite Longsword Gravite 2H You said not to use xx weapon, why? As noted earlier, as you move closer to the center of the arena your opponent begins to lose defensive points. At the center, your opponent is equal to having 0 defense. This reduction makes it extremely easy to hit your opponent with low accuracy, boosting the effectiveness of "Fast DPS/Low Accuracy" weapons, and lowering effectiveness of slower weapons. Ranged or Melee, which should I choose? While ranged is one of the best (if not the best) method to kill your opponent in FoG due to the fact it can cause damage at speed rate 7. Some players may not have the necessary ranged levels, or have a desire to use melee combat instead. Melee tends to be higher Damage, however range has some perks in FoG that put it over the top (which I will explain later). You may have wondered why I only mentioned the best weapons to use, and nothing about armor. There are two main reasons why I don't suggest armor: 1) A large problem in Free-to-play is that we cannot use the agility skill. As a result, every KG of weight you add to your player has a large impact on how long you can run. Someone who is lighter than their opponent has a huge advantage, and could easily exploit that advantage to tip the scores in their favor. 2) Due to Free To Plays attack and defense values, at the center of the first your opponent will have near perfect accuracy on you every attack. Rather than helping you, armor in F2P works the opposite and increases your weight giving you a huge disadvantage. Ideal Setups Ranged: Gravite Shortbow > Best shortbow you can use Adamant Arrows > Best arrows you are willing to waste Green D'hide Vambs > Leather Vambs > Nothing Monk's robe top > No top Monk's robe bottom > No bottom Amulet of Power > Amulet of Accuracy > Holy Amulet Explorers Ring > No Ring Melee: Gravite Rapier > Rune Scimitar > Rune Sword=G2H > Any quick weapon Monk's robe top* > No top Monk's robe bottom* > No bottom Rune Guantlets > Best FoG Guantlets Amulet of Strength > Amulet of Power > Holy Amulet Fancy/Fighting Boots > Leather Boots Explorers Ring > No Ring Note: While a "light" 2 kg weight is an added bonus, the primary reason to use monk's robes when using melee is the prayer bonus. I burried all those bones for a reason! FoG prayers are typically very straight forward, and are broken down into two groups; Offensive Prayers and Defensive Prayers. The two images on the left show which offensive prayers you should be using for range and melee, respectively. For defense, you should be using rapid heal and your highest defense prayer. Protip: Make use of the Quick Keys F1 (Inventory) and F3 (Prayers) for healing and switching prayers! Optional: Some people make a big deal about use of overhead protection prayers (Like protect from missiles). I often go by the rule of: how long is this fight going to take? If I see someone and predict they can hit 100-200's consistently, I am likely to use my overhead only if I am hunted on the first round. If my opponent was hunted first, I typically will not use overheads. Again, this is a personal preference and there is no "right" or "wrong" answer. [/hide] [hide=Section 2) Predicting] Now that you have the basics of what to wear, we can get onto the real strategies to win games. Upfront you need need to understand there is no 100% foolproof "win all" strategy. Every strategy has its own strengths and weaknesses. To be able to Predict what strategy your opponent will use, will give you an edge on making sure you score beats theirs. Take a quick glance at the image below. Can you identify who might be using what combat style? What am I going to be hit with? What combat style will be best against my opponent? Every time you enter a game you will need to ask yourself all those questions, and within 5 seconds of seeing your opponent should should be able to Predict: 1) What/If You should pray defensively 2) What combat style you should use offensively 3) What combat style your opponent will use offensively. 4) If your opponent will stand in the center 5) If your opponent will Hide in Houses 6) If your opponent will run How do I predict? The best way to identify who will do what is to take notice how players react each round. You can use this chart below as a type of "guidelines" however tactics are always changing and you need to change with them. Some key elements you will need to look at is their armor, weapon, prayer usage, willingness to move close/away from you, and level. Protip: Take look at your opponent's amulet. It is a usually good indicator of what combat style they will be using! "They Remember..." Often times you will be placed with the same opponent you battled a few rounds ago. You must go into the game expecting your opponent predicts you to use the same exact strategy you did last time. Change your strategy to something different, and you will throw your opponent off guard. Overconfidence in knowing what your opponent will do before they do it, is the greatest threat in this mini-game. Using the tools to Predict your opponent's tactics will then help you once you begin your Performance.... [/hide] [hide=Section 3) Performance] Once you have solid Planning and Predictions, you can then spend less time worrying about what you use to play the game, and more about how to bend the mechanics of how the game is played. There are Lots of "tricks" players use to give them edges in battle, and I will only explain a few on this guide. Please note that these Preformance tricks are not "bugs", but tactics that simply take advantage of the in-game mechanics. The three I will cover in this guide are the Lag-line, Aerial View (Down Point), and XP Usage. Protip: Lag is a controllable element. Put your graphics to the lowest settings to reduce loading time! The "Lag-Line" The Runescape game itself is one giant map. Every time you move from location A to location B, you load a small section of that map between the two points. The fist of Guthix is no exception, and such a large area that is fits on two loading points. Where are the loading points exactly? While they vary from game to game, the loading point is typically towards the center of the Fist. As seen above, the small black section on your mini-map is the edge of the loaded map, or the "Lag-Line" as I call it. Once you move close enough to the black edge, you will step over the loading map line the game will proceed to load the next section of map. This map loading often takes a few seconds of "lag" which is why it is dubbed the "Map Lag Line". Below is an example of where the lag line is approximately: So how do I use this to my advantage? Keep in mind that your opponent also suffers from the lag line. Knowing this, you can use it both offensively and defensively. Offensive: Stand in the center for a few seconds after the round starts. If you see your opponent running towards you, right click on him but DON'T click attack. Wait until he is almost in the center and then begin your assault of arrows or melee. Chances are, they passed into the lag-line running towards the center. Since your opponent is now crippled with lag, this gives you 2-5 seconds of attacks (usually 1-3 combat rounds) before he/she will be aware you are dealing damage to them. Once your opponent awakens from their lag state, all your damage will be displayed on their screen, appearing as if you dealt several damage splats on them at once. Players often use a programmed response of eating food as quickly as possible when getting hit with multiple splats, ignoring the fact they haven't turned on any defensive prayers. Defensive: The best way to use lag to your advantage is to determine where the line is during a game. If you run to the center of the map just to the point before you activate a loading screen, you should run across the line just as you predict your opponent will cross the line. By doing so, you clear the loading screen off your character and preform a "swamp positions" of sorts. Your opponent will see you rush by them, and you will rush by your opponent running to opposite sites. You must be careful however, as some types of lag could end up to hinder you... Beware of using a tele-orb defensively, as it produces "tele-lag" shown below: A similar situation to the "lag-line", using a tele-orb will instantly activate your map load crippling your character. In addition, it also must load the characters around you, which could give your opponent some time to attack you before you even see them. In the above image, there is actually 50-100 people around me, they just haven't loaded yet. My attacker could be 6 squares away, but I can't even see them! If I'm hunted first, and I can't see my attacker, there is no way for me to Predict anything about the situation. Because of this lag, its more efficient to use your orb offensively (when your opponent uses theirs), rather than using it defensively to teleport at the start of the round. Protip: When a player crosses a loading screen, any right clicks options are reset and vanish! Just cant Click it! - An Aerial View Any time you play Fist of Guthix, it is recommended that you play on Resizeable mode or Full Screen. Why? Both the resizeable mode and full screen allow you to see farther and gain a higher aerial view (aerial view being the most important reason). As a defensive strategy in Free to Play, hunted players often clot up and "death dot" on each-other at the first, so your right click attack option vanishes. This can be a big problem because if you can't attack your opponent, you can't do damage! How to get around this problem is actually an idea already thought of by Jagex many years ago. The magical team cape! Team capes grant you the ability to have a left click attack option as a default regardless of level range. Using your extended aerial range from your Resizeable mode or Full Screen, you can aim you camera up above the masses as shown below: What does this do exactly? By using a combination of your screen pointed downward and the team cape ability, you can left click on the "stack" of players where you opponent is and start attacking them. Shortly after the Fist of Guthix was introduced, Jagex updated the game so your opponent always shows ontop of other players, creating this tactic. This update ensures that, provided you click ontop of the "correct" pile, you will always attack your opponent. I keep clicking, but how do I know if I am starting to attack my opponent? Use your XP, just not for skills? O_o ... So how exactly do you know that your attacking your opponent? XP! No, not XP from your stats menu (you shouldn't be looking at your stats, however pretty they are :P ) Instead, make use of Jagex's handy little XP counter. At any point of the game, XP of a dice roll is given to a player before the actual attack animation is started. Using this performance tool, you can see when you have locked onto your opponent and started attacking before you even lift your first arrow! Sometimes attacks can be difficult to see visually, and this trick is a great way to get around it. Protip: XP from players varies, however if you learn the "general range" of your XP, you can predict if your opponent is using a protection prayer! Keep in mind these are only a small few Performance tricks in Fist of Guthix. A large number of them simply develop over time as you gain more experience playing the game. I would be a fool if I gave you all of the tactics I knew of, after all I have to use something against you :P The best advice I can offer for this game (or anything in life in general) is to not get disappointed when you lose. Rather than looking at a loss with a negative light, take the strategy that beat you, and build a tactic using Planning, Prediction, and Performance to beat that strategy! "If one cannot learn to fail, then one will never understand the importance of success." [/hide] Guide Version 1.03 Last Edit: April, 2011
  8. When I only played RS I would disagree with this statement, but now that I've broken my RS saturation over the past few months and played some different MMO's, I really think Jagex's death system is to strict, and often prevents them from advancing the game. If anything, the death system needs to be even more protective, if not removed all together (with exceptions). If there is like .01% risk of death unless you DC, then there shouldn't even be an item loss system at that point. By doing so, you can open opportunities for real risk vs reward. The best way to make "more extreme bosses" is to change boss mechanics so you start losing gear at higher level bosses. Imagine if you had to do Nex and any items you lost were gone forever. Not blessable. Not Lootable, Gone. It would make a boss much more challenging, rather than being able to save 3 items at the hardest boss available. It would make sense if they start all monsters off with a 0% death penalty, and increase the penalty as you get higher up in boss monsters. Otherwise you are going to end up with a system which is to harsh for lower-middle players, and not harsh enough for high level players. That aside, I'm looking forward to the Clan update and Death update this month. I feel both are a step in the right direction.
  9. Not sure where your getting the "legally 1 month = 30 days". Once per 30 days is simply how Google chooses to do their billing cycle. A billing cycle is NOT necessarily a monthly payment, but a Monthly payment is a billing cycle. If you went by 30 days = 1 month, you could argue that you should only have to pay 12 times a year (12*30=360 days), and get 5 days free. Google ad-words advertises their payments (once every 30 days) as a Billing cycle, not a monthly payment. Most companies like credit cards bill you every 28 days or so on a billing cycle, not a monthly payment. On the other hand, a "monthly payment cycle" would be a payment due date on the same day of every month. So in this method, instead of paying every 30 days, you pay on the 1st day of the month, every month. Most subscription services (cable internet, gas, electric, trash, magazines, ect..) use the Monthly Paymen cycle, rather than the static billing cycle, because they expect you to purchase a yearly subscription. Yes, you do get less for your money on shorter months, but you get more on longer months. It's the way the world works. Go and try to tell your electric company that making you pay the same amount for 31 days one month and 28 days another is ripping you off. So "technically" Jagex is politically correct when they say Monthly payment, because its on a Monthly Billing cycle. Monthly billing cycles assume that some months are shorter/longer than others.
  10. Members was running out, so I decided to sell all my P2P stuff, and prepare for F2P. After being a member for so long, I had forgotten how different the free-to-play part of the game really was. I mostly did FoG and clan wars in members anyways, so not much incentive to keep membership. Sold all my members stuff, Gave away a few mill to friends, bought a rare, bought tons of supplies, and am now happily broke. Got my F2P FoG gear all set up though, and so far it's proven quite deadly!
  11. Ya they didn't say it, but Im thinking this part is the clan chat update: So I'm guessing this will separate the clan chat so ranks are no longer tied to your friends list. Instead you will have to go to the camp to change your ranks on a separate list. This will be a big update for monster hunting too, for better or for worse. Maybe instead of being able to add a random person at a boss entrance, you'd have to go to clan camp to add people to the list for loot-share. On the other hand, perhaps they will make LS available to everyone in your clan chat regardless of rank. It's difficult to say, but I can see people griping about this part of the update whichever way it turns out. But maybe I'm wrong. Either way, im VERY much looking forward to this update.
  12. I'm not really sure on this answer, but I'm going to take a guess at why this would happen. I am assuming that when you start a match and are both teleported to the dueling arena, the game server starts the countdown and sends a message to your Java Client to start counting down. It's possible that your Java Client is counting down faster than the server, and as a result you see both players as "ready to fight" before the server registered it as such. This could be by lag from the server, or perhaps some other issue with the two syncing. Because of that, when it looks like you have a green light to attack, and attempt to strike, the server is still on its countdown tick and returns a message saying "No, I'm not ready yet". Again this is just a guess at what might be happening. Someone with a little more staking experience might be familiar with this problem and have more information on it. EDIT: Also if this a new problem and several people experience it, perhaps Jagex changed the buffer time so you can't send a request to attack to the server until the server tells you that your allowed to send a request to attack. So maybe you can no longer attempt to attack before "Fight!" gets sent to your client from the server?
  13. He may have an attitude about it, but he's right. If anyone were to say something like that it would be trolling, plain and simple. He didn't ask about how good the profits were, and there does tend to be those types of responses in a lot of threads asking about experience. Its help & advice forum we don't always stay 100% on topic because its not conducive to giving the best advice. Yes in some cases if some is adamant on using a les effcent method it may be of no use to them, but it doesn't make it trolling and there's no need to have an attitude about it. [hide=offtopic stuff] Unfortunately, some people feel the need to post the "best advice" on something when it isn't applicable to the question, thus not being helpful. For example: If we are on a thread asking if a barrows plate or dragon plate is better for slayer, someone is going to come in and post "get neither, Bandos is the best for slayer". Obviously this is the best advice because Bandos is the best for slayer, however its irrelevant advice (and thus not helpful advice) because it doesn't help answer the question. (look 2 paragraphs down to see what I mean). I have no problem with people giving advice when it's good, as long as it's helpful. Someone posting: "get Bandos or don't slay" isn't helpful.. But someone who posts: "On most tasks Dragon armor would be fine due to most slayer monsters being lower leveled. Barrows armor might be useful for some tasks, but in general you could easily get by with dragon armor. However, it may be worth it to sell your dragon armor for a cheaper Barrows piece and sink that money towards herblore and prayer. On that note, keep in mind Bandos would be the best armor to use for slayer, and you should consider getting it if/when you have the money available to you. See what I mean? Both answers give the exact same advice, but answer #1 is "stubborn" advice, and not helpful since it doesn't really help answer the question the OP is asking. In my opinion, there is a very fine line between "stubborn advice" and trolling. So if your going to offer the "best advice", at least try to do it in a way that also answers the OP question too. It will all make this forum a happier place  [/hide] Didn't mean to pull this thread offtopic, just something I've wanted to post for awhile now on these threads but never got around to it. Anyways, back ontopic.. There is not going to be much of a xp difference between 90 and 99. Back in the day I think I got around 40k or so per hour on monkfish, and I believe that rocktails are faster. Assuming that the xp difference on monks would be similar to Rocktails, you should expect a .5-1k/hr increase in xp per level gained.
  14. When I do Clan Wars, I usually bring a both the Gravite Short bow and Maple Longsighted-bow with me. *Most* times the gravite short is better, simply because its speed 7 on rapid (Opposed to Sighted bow which is speed 5 on rapid). The faster hits typically mean more DPS since you have more chances to hit, considering the damage per hit is the same regardless of bow type. Now there are lots of exceptions to this. I have 99 ranged, so my attacks are going to be accurate due to the fact the best someone can wear is rune armor. Since most F2P players tend to be lower level (around 60-100), *most* times you don't need the super accuracy of the sighted bow. In full tank gear (Full rune + Rune chain) and G-shortbow equipped, I can get +42 Ranged bonus. Swap a ranged top when your not getting hit, and you can boost to +57 Ranged. Just for reference, Full D'hide + rune helm + Maple shortbow is +54 ranged bonus. So with a gravite shortbow you are already +3 ranged bonus over the maximum with maple shortbow. Now once you start fighting higher leveled opponents (or opponents with higher defense than your ranged level), sighted longbow because much more useful due to the fact your accuracy is going to be much lower. If I'm fighting a 126 and not hitting with my shortbow, I just pop on my sighted bow for the extra accuracy, and switch back once he's gone. In all honesty, 50k tokens (G-Shortbow for 40K + Sighted for 10k) isn't to difficult to get as long as you enjoy Dungeon. Both are handy to have, and the shortbow is worth getting in my opinion. Sighted Longbow is certainly not the end-all of ranged weapons. If you don't enjoy dungeon at all, you might want to consider; "is it really worth my time to spend a bunch of hours doing something I don't enjoy for a marginal increase to a safe minigame?". I would say no, but it's your choice, not mine. To answer your question directly: Are they worth getting? Yes, they are statistically better weapons, and having the "best-of" weapons are always going to give you an advantage. Should I get them? That depends on how you value your time, and if you are willing to spend the time to gain a marginal bonus.
  15. I'll admit it was a very bad comparison, however theirs not really any other analogies I could think of to apply something similar, because there isn't really a similarity to "virtual goods" in the "real world". Anywho, my point was more along the lines of "the customer not being able to sue the insurance company, if a car company tells a customer they refuse to replace a stolen rental car". The car company could say "we wont replace anyone's rented car if it's stolen. This is to prevent against drivers fake-stealing cars to profit, which makes our company lose money". The car company would have the right to terminate the lease, tell you to go away, and not replace your car if it's stolen. More or less, I know it's not the best example, but I think you get the point I'm trying to make; it's never your car and you never have the legal right to get one replaced if it's stolen. (Unless its in your contract, which it's not in this case).
  16. I acknowledge your points and I have no answer in those cases. However, in this case - and I quote Mod Mark H - "As soon as we became aware of the situation we acted quickly banning the hijacker's accounts as well as removing any items & wealth stolen. " - which means they had the information they needed to return the items. There would be no duping in this case. But instead of returning them, they removed them forever. If Mod Mark H had hidden behind "terms of service" then that would be different. But he didn't - he wrapped himself in the code of law. The victim in question should have recourse to recover those items from Jagex if Jagex is going to use that same law to seize them from the hijacker. Items taken as a result of hacking can't be stolen when it is convenient for Jagex and not stolen when it isn't. I agree completely. If Jagex doesn't reconsider, I think that Chessy018 should sue Jagex over this. .... What? Stop right there. http://www.runescape.com/rules/rule_real_world_trading.ws Jagex Rules & Conditions > RWT > Section 3 While that section describes RWT, it also applies to any items in general. ANYTHING on your account (items, xp, time, ect..) belongs to Jagex. Just because you spend 100 hours of your personal time to buy items with other virtual items does not mean your "time" gives you rights to those items. So the point is, the Hats were, and always are, property of Jagex and not the player. You are simply renting them. If a rented car is stolen, does the insurance company reimburse you for any damages to the car? No. They would reimburse the car company. In this scenario Jagex is both the insurance company and the car company. You (as the consumer) can't sue the insurance company for not giving you money for a rented car.. You are simply out of luck with the old car, and have to work to rent a new one.
  17. For most things, but it still have some new uses now that you should have the RoW for. #1) Clues. Since the ring helps with getting better items from clues, it would be silly not to use it. No other ring(or item) would give you any better benefit, so if you are finishing a clue scroll you should wear one. #2) Item farming. If you are killing monsters for GP (Eg. Bizzles, Metal Dragons, Nechs..) it would likely be in your best interest to wear a RoW. If all you are concerned about is making money, that extra bonus the ring gives for expensive drops will likely pay off in the long run. If you are concerned about XP, task speed, or anything besides exclusive GP, you would be better off not using the ring UNLESS you are using ranged. If you are using ranged, its a good idea to look in detail at the monster you are killing. If the monster you are killing has low defense, and you already hit a 95%+ accuracy on the NPC, the ring of wealth may be a consideration. This is because a players range bonus can be raised to a very high level. There is a very little difference between 180 ranged accuracy and 172. Magic is much more difficult to get a higher boost on, so typically the loss in -6 magic attack is a greater loss than -6 ranged attack. At the end, it all boils down to personal preference.
  18. Not a glitch? The item does what it is supposed to do... Pretty sure he means his opponent venging himself at the start of the duel when he's on ancient, could be wrong tho. That's not a venge, that's the animation for the new Vecna Skull, it's meant to do that.... Looks exactly like venging, be creative on animations yet Jagex? And then, it's perfectly normal. Ya its actually an interesting "run-around" boost. Since pots are turned off, you can still use the item to boost your magic, giving you a +6 level (18% damage boost) over the other player unless they use one too. Really it works much like the Excalibur boosting your stats without pots, but it doesn't require special attack energy, so "no specials" doesn't disable it. I don't really see anything wrong with it though, since either player can use them. Its like going into a duel with a whip expecting nobody to use a rapier. You have to use the best items you can or you are putting yourself at a disadvantage.
  19. Will that be the case too when most of the supply of high end herbs comes from monster drops? You have got to remember that the herbs people mostly farm basically only came from farming(toad, snap and torstol), but now, there is a source that provides an equal or higher supply of those three herbs, cutting profits by atleast half, if not making it completely useless(seeing as you have to have juju farming potions to farm any herbs anyway). 5k drops of coal and 500 drops of raw sharks kill any chance those two skills had of making money(for reference, you can mine like 1k coal or 150 sharks in an hour). This is jagex basically saying: 'Oh f*** you, skillers' cheaper herblore > skillers making money No reason you cant have both. Simply multiply the # of herbs received from farming by 400%. Skillers get the same, if not more, profits, and Herblore is reduced in cost. The problem is monsters dropping resources in general. If Runescape were to be a "perfect" system, the only materials for smithing come from mining, ect.. NPC's shouldn't drop raw materials from skills or finished products from skills. NPC's should only drop; raw materials that gathering skills dont offer (eg, dragonhide), finished products skills dont offer (eg, Granite), Coins, Nothing. But this was the way Runescape was designed from the beginning, and no way to back on that now. It's Jagex's game, so they can take it on any direction they want.. but right now this is how it is. 1) Gather raw materials via Slayer/Combat 2) Use/Sell/Buy raw materials to gain XP in Production Skills 3) Gain XP in production skills that give no benefit other than XP, Skill capes, mini-games, and total levels. It doesn't make much sense to me, but what do I know. I'm just 1 of thousands of players in this game. My opinion is really an irrelevant minority.
  20. I think alot of people misunderstood what the magic update actually was. It was worded strangely, but does not really mean how it is stated. In the old system, if you were 94/94 magic and were reduced to 90/94 magic, your next attack cycle would tell you "you do not have the magic level to use this spell" and your auto cast box would turn off. If you did not recast, you would attempt to melee with your staff. In the new system, if you are 94/94 magic, and reduced to 90/94 magic, your next attack cycle will tell you "you do not have the magic level to use this spell", but your auto cast box will NOT be turned off. This does not mean you can cast ice barrage at 90/94 magic... This means that you will not attempt to melee with a staff if your magic level is lowered. Once your magic level is boosted again, you can cast spells as normal. If your magic level is 90/94 now, you will simply stand there and no be able to cast magic OR melee unless you manually turn melee on. This is the way it was supposed to be. Magic is better since you don't accidentally melee a NPC, and seercull is still as useful as it was before the update.
  21. If you want an opinion from someone who likes skills rather than combat.. Farming (herbs) is a great way to make profits. Farming Herbs and doing daily shop activities + Kingdom are likely the best gp/time spent logged in, considering you only need to log in a few minutes per day to complete them. I think there's a guide to daily activities in the AoW somewhere. Grimy has a guide too, I believe, on which herbs are the best to farm for profits. I don't know if its more gp/hr than unf pots, but farming does give you some (lower) consistent xp gains.
  22. She has a weakness to crush style attacks, but still relatively high defense in general. Veracs has the benefit of accuracy due to crush being her weakest defense, and the specials of the Verac's set. Chaotic Longsword has the benefit of higher accuracy than a godsword when coupled with a defender. When we when on trips, CLS+rune defender was about the same overall damage as Veracs, but it came in spurts. 0,0,0,400,0,0,600, ect.. You can also wield a shield when tanking, but lose a spot for claws. I have yet to test this with a dragon defender, so CLS *may* be better than flail with use of a d-defender. Chaotic Rapier is less effective than CLS in my experience. While it htis faster, she appears to have an extraordinary stab defense. Sometimes you can hit just as well as a CLS on her, but most times its less than par with the Flail or CLS. Chaotic Maul takes advantage of both her weakness to crush and the Mauls insane accuracy. It does very well and could quite possibly be the best weapon against her. If you get unlucky though and miss, the slow speed can really hurt you in non-LS world scenarios. I prefer Veracs due to the overall excellent accuracy it provides due to the special effect. It is also easy to switch to claws for specials since both are 2 handed. In all honesty If you have a Chaotic Maul, CLS, or Veracs, any of those would be equally as good. At a minimum though, at least use Veracs. Whip and GS are far to inaccurate on her to be worth while, unless you use the GS only for specials. (Claws > AGS > BGS > ZGS > SGS).
  23. It also seems unlikely that the tsunami will cause any major damage to other countries due to it being small when it's hit land so far. Japan is still being hit by aftershocks measuring between 4 and 5 on the Richter Scale though. Its fortunate no other areas will be greatly impacted by the event. Hawaii and other Pacific islands are expecting increased waves around the 1-5 feet mark continuing throughout the next few days due to aftershocks. It was estimated that the waves impacting Japan near the point of origin were over 10 meters (~30 feet) high. I have a feeling the death-toll is going to quickly rise into the thousands.
  24. There is also a red alert from one of the nuclear power plants not to far from Tokyo. The cooling generator for the reactor was damaged by the quake, and the entire station is at high risk for nuclear fallout. Currently all pro-cations are being taken to keep the station safe, but nothing can be guaranteed at the moment. We have family in Japan, not far from Tokyo, and we were unable to reach them. I am really scared :(
  25. This, unless you're maging or soloing arma. When you solo arma you should optimally be on regular prayers for rigor I'm not so sure about that. Having used both I can honestly say I have seen very little benefit of Rigour over Curses at Arma. #1 Accuracy. While Rigour boosts your personal accuracy to 15% of that over initial curses boost, curses also reduce monsters defense by 10%. It might just be my bad luck, but I personally see very little (if any) difference in accuracy from using Rigour vs Leech Range + Leech Defence. #2 Damage. Rigour provides 15% more ranged damage (initially) compared to curses. Diamond bolts don't typically hit over 500, so being generous the maximum boost from using Rigour over curses is 500*15% = 75 damage maximum (37.5 average). The problem is Curses take advantage of deflects. Due to the fact Kree is so accurate and hit's so hard, you can expect around 0-70 deflect damage every round. The deflect damage (on average) would deal the same as the Rigour Boost. Add on top of this that her attacks are so accurate that while you might roll a 0 in your hit, she can still deal damage to herself with deflect. Add on the boost of healing with Soul Split, and I honestly think Curses > Rigour > Eagle Eye for any Arma Situation. Unless you have some evidence that shows otherwise?
