Libya Uprising thread
^ tml has a hardline anti-Gaddafi stance that is so exaggerated it's largely fictional. I knew he'd pop up here sooner or later. PS: tml, I'd love to know who killed General Younes - which faction of the NTC was it?

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Even the biggest of [wagon], for whatever reason, get turned into a saint when they die. It's really annoying. Also, you thought "could care less" was bad? My teacher today: "I could even particularly not care less." And every kid who gets cancer is 'so brave', as if they purposefully got cancer to fight it and prove their worth or something. And then they die. You've stepped over the line here, Lenin. Though I agree that kids who kill themselves are for the most part to blame, for largely personality problems and their own emotional backwardness, kids who get cancer are by no means comparable (largely because suicide is a choice; cancer is not). They are called 'so brave' because for children, the process of undergoing chemo or radiotherapy is terrifying. Back when I was 12 or so, a pupil in my mum's class - he was 5 - got a cancer of some form right at the end of term. It killed him before the summer holidays had ended. The boy was absolutely terrified and couldn't even comprehend what was going on to him. His mother told him he was 'brave' and that 'everything was going to be alright' to stop him from crying; she knew he wasn't going to be alright and wanted him to enjoy the time he had. Lenin, from your post I can conclude that you've little exposure to the reality of the outside world, so I'm not going to get angry or flame you. Just remember, though, that people do things and experience things that are no less valid just because you've no experience of them.

What Tv Shows do you watch?
I've already seen both of my least favourite shows ever, Misfits and The Inbetweeners, listed here. Shame on you for finding such predictable programmes even remotely funny. Anyway, the only things I watch on TV are Family Guy, South Park, BBC News, Newsnight & Question Time.

I remember that the Japanese villain in the Blue Lotus story was my favourite character.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
That makes it even more annoying than just liking the show. This. It's publicly announcing it to attract attention that makes it seem all the more fake.

RuneVillage - Removed as gold status because owner is a sex offender
No no, the Internet isn't an excuse for crap debating, it's just part and parcel of it. You know nothing about this person... I mean literally nothing. We don't even know it was related to child porn, we suspect it might be. That's the level of competence you're all showing here--you saw "sex offender" and went "hang him the filthy perv". It's cringeworthy that this has been labelled under 'discussion', it's just two sides shouting about something they can't possibly know to be true. Aside from all of his legal history thanks to the many items posted by Killer, you're right we know nothing of him as a person. But, as far as I'm concerned, the fact that he may or may not help old ladies cross the road doesn't mean that distributing child porn (yes, we know he did this) is any more acceptable or appropriate when he is running a fan-site for a game frequented by many children. You can make excuses all you like, but the law is pretty clear on what is/isn't child porn, and even if it was a "teenage girl", a 15/16 year old having an explicit picture of his similarly aged girlfriend is very different to a man in his 40s distributing such images. Similarly, the hyperbolic situation you're commenting on applies to only a few of us. My reaction, for example, was not "sex offender - hang him the filthy perv", but rather something more along the lines of, "I see that this man was a distributor of child pornography, Jagex was right to cut ties with his site for the time being". I think many people saw this and thought, "Surely such a person wouldn't be involved with RuneScape?", and started to defend his actions, which whether or not he's a "nice" man, are inexcusable.

RuneVillage - Removed as gold status because owner is a sex offender
They didn't need to do this publicly. They could have entered into private negotiations concerning the matter as Tip.it had done to gain it's platinum status. From there they might've worked out a possible solution that kept it all quiet. Jagex acted in a hamfisted manner, as usual. Heh. At this point I'm only interested in how long the fiddler will play while Rome burns to the ground, so to speak. Though it is regrettable that Jagex's public approach may have tarnished RuneVillage's reputation, it also forced the person in question to leave, which is a good thing. After all, RV could not have stayed on as a part of the Fansite Support Programme in the light of this revelation about the owner, because a fansite for a children's game (largely) run by a convicted paedophile is so suspicious that the website automatically fails the only criteria for Bronze - "■These are safe websites who understand the basics of supporting players" - because such a website cannot be classified as safe. Anyone who believes that someone's innate nature changes between their 40s and 60s and suddenly they have no sexual feelings towards children because of a few months of prison is absurdly naive. As such, I think that it is morally wrong to support a fansite that is run by a paedo. The actual method in which Jagex conducted themselves is a different matter altogether; I think that, by forcing the man in question to leave, it made RuneVillage a more credible and safer fansite. This may or may not have been achieved by private talks and a quiet de-rank. Conversely, I can see why some people are upset at the reputation damage to RuneVillage that their approach is a little heavy-handed, but overall I think it was the better one. Oh, and did you steal the Nero analogy from my Tip.It article from 21 Aug? ;)

I am having more fun playing Bejeweled 3 than I did after I went F2P in Dec.

Libya Uprising thread
I largely agree, though I did hear one particularly ironic statement from an NTC official along the lines of 'We will give Gaddafi a fair trial, and then he will be killed by firing squad'. On the issue of the CIA/MI6, it goes much deeper than being the 'lesser of two evils'. Our intelligence agencies encouraged Gaddafi to torture because it was useful to us, and then we scorn him for it (admittedly, he did it long before and would have done it anyway, but it becomes contradictory after our encouragement of such acts). I think there is a difference between exchanging intelligence and whatnot and using Libyan prisons as a sort of Guantánamo Bay in Africa. MI6 and the CIA need to face up to this, apologise, and move on. @Dizzle: not to mention the situation in Bani Walid, Sabha and a few other desert towns.

I had beef jerky the other day for the first time ever. It's not bad, but I don't see the appeal. And it's certainly not better than sunflower seeds.

Collective suspicion and lynch mobs are no way to build a proper society regardless of how Jagex handled this matter. EDIT: Might as well place a camera at every home, body scanners in every airport, barricade your homes and keep a potentially lethal weapon like a ballpoint pen on your person at all times. Do not let fear rule you. You've missed the point of my post, which was: a sex offender running a fansite for a child's game is something Jagex can't be seen as supporting. It's far too suspicious.

The Q Word
I cancelled my membership in December 2010 after Jagex released the second of those free trade / Wilderness referendum. I quit playing altogether in July 2011; bots rendered the game unplayable and I disliked the Members' Loyalty Programme and Vanity Items being released at the same time as if nothing was going on.

RuneVillage - Removed as gold status because owner is a sex offender
I agree. He manned up and took his consequences like a man. Whether he changed or not isn't my concern, but he is doing what he feels best. For all we know, what he feels best is trying to lure small children to him via an RS fansite. These are the risks Jagex run by granting him and his site Gold status, and disassociating themselves with him is a sensible move, even if he has truly 'changed'.

...Fifteen years ago. This is one of the problems with society. People are always trying to hold others' mistakes above their heads, no matter how long ago those mistakes occurred. At some point in time, an individual should be allowed to live and operate without whatever they did in the past constantly throwing the proverbial dark cloud over their head. You're assuming that a man who, in his 40s, engaged in child porn has somehow grown out of it in his 60s. I think it's testament to the fact that his paedophilic instincts remain that he set up an RS fan-site.

RuneVillage - Removed as gold status because owner is a sex offender
Completely disagree. It's important to let the community know: think of the severity of the guy's actions (40 year old involved in child porn distribution), and consider that many of the game's users are in the sort of age-group he targets. People need to be aware of this, as far as I'm concerned.

Melodrama.
The OP is missing the point of the rants he's ranting against. People who say '0mg RS iz dying' are trying to say 'Jagex are killing RS even quicker than they were', or something similar. I largely agree; one only has to see the ever increasing number of people quitting to see that the current approach is, if not 'fatal', unsustainable. I think that it's important to recognise that melodrama is the result of good points being made either in a state of rage or in a rush, or both.

Reveal Confessions, Secrets & Regrets...
This. The more I think about death, the less real it seems. I just can't imagine what happens when it's over. Not being a part of any religion makes it harder to comprehend, because you don't know what happens at all. I think the Japanese poet Saigyo summed up time pretty nicely: "Nowhere at all would I live on; all is pointless: A hut of twigs is this fleeting world.
