11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
Since the armour rework/nerf-everything-that-isnt-gwd-or-nex-gear-to-high-hell I find myself in a state of cba with ports. I think I'll soldier on doing 1 set of voyages a day though, completionst in me wants to get all the scrolls and after that who knows? Maybe I'll get myself some PoP armour on the off chance Jagex manages to make some content where the like 300 extra def vs Nex gear is sooooooooo needed that Pop is worth using (Not that I actually have nex armour)

Observations from a "Noob"
Some how I doubt the validity of this claim seeing as the biggest gaming markets are still console games and like 90% of them have a finite end, sure they have extra content to the main-game and loose strands for sequels but the game itself is closed ended. Even in mobile gaming where open ended is more norm (smurfs village, tapped out etc. etc. etc.) I'd say theres a good 60:40 or 50:50 split between the open and close ended games

Divination - one of the new skills reported by IGN
I agree. Additionally, considering how there are many players that have invested hundreds of millions of GP into this, it is highly unlikely that they'll remove the skill altogether. I'm very curious as to how they will make an intricate skill out of what could very well pass as a branch of Prayer. I don't think divination could remotely pass for a branch of prayer, divination sort of incorporates kinda like all the 'fake' 'heaten' 'pagan' stuff that religion kinda views as the antithesis to prayer - fortune telling through all sorts of means, dealing with magical energies and stuff. I know it's not quite the same in RS world how religion would view these things, but conceptually prayer and divination are very separate concepts and don;t really branch from each other in the same way necromancy or enchanting (other skills ppl suggest sometimes) are very clearly forms of magic. Sure if they skill was 'faith' or 'devotion' it'd make sense that prayer and divining could be separate parts of that, but it's not we have Prayer as a skill and the new skill is Divination.

Alright, kind of an odd question, math.
They vary throughout runescape, a few do stack multiplicatively but the vast majority stack additively. Multiplicative ones work in that say an action is 100xp and you have a 2* xp booster, it becomes 200xp. Then a multiplicative booster of say 1.5* xp would do 200*1.5 for 300xp total pay out. As you rightly said 1.5*2 = 3* multiplier. Additive bonuses work thusly: 100xp activity. You have a 2* xp thingie and a 1.5* xp thingy they both act on the base xp to give the result. A 2* booster means the end result is twice the base xp (200xp) BUT only 100xp of that is bonus, the other 100 is the xp you got anyway. A 1.5* booster goes to 150xp but again the 100xp is the original base xp, only the 50xp is the bonus. Additive stacking means: 100xp base 100xp bonus from the 2* 50xp bonus from the 1.5* 250xp total aka 2.5* xp 1 (base xp) + 1 (bonus from the doubling effect) + 0.5 (bonus from the 1.5 effect) = 2.5* multiplier Where your friend is getting lost is he is forgetting the multipliers include 1.0 for the base xp that you get anyway so you can't just add 2.0 and 1.5 and say it should be 3.5, using that math you've included the 1.0 base xp twice. I mean sure in direct math 2+1.5 is 3.5, but since we are considering multipliers it doesn't work like that the multiplier is just an instruction of how you get from the normal xp to the xp given by using said item and as such 1.0, 100% or 1/1 of that value IS the base xp and cannot simply be duplicated in adding, when adding you have to ONLY add up the parts of the multipliers in excess of 1.0 and then put the extra 1 back in to the multiplier. (Like I said before for the 2* and 1.5* you do 1 + 0.5 + 1 = 2.5) To shortly summarise what this friend is claiming is that doing agility for a 1000xp action the pendant should give 1500xp for 150% and the horn should give 2000xp for 200% and therefore combined should be 3500xp. In reality the action you are doing is giving you 1000xp, the pendant only gives you 500xp and the horn gives you 1000xp for a total of 2500xp.

It's around 61% ok, 39% not ok. Alright, but why 39%? It looks like a random number 61+ 39=100 61% success rate = 39% fail rate.

Divination - one of the new skills reported by IGN
Yeah its a very common trope of modern game advertising to up sell how many hours of gameplay there is to make it clear there is lots to do and you won't get bored. It sort of follows on from the early 00's where there was a spate of games that people went out and paid their £40 or w/e for only to find you could literally complete everything in a matter of an hour or 2 which lead to the modern spate of games where the main story may only take 2-5 hours but all the side content ladles on many more hours of gameplay.

I'd say this would fit gathering. As based on the definitions of Divination you've got to be gathering some sort of information and/or energy. Certainly it's not the in the same vein as most of the existing gathering skills, but then farming doesn't quite match the rest either and hunter equally is sort of slightly unusual as the gathering skills go.

Behind the Scenes: May 2013
I haven't seen them say that - All I saw them say was about Nex not being done yet because they had tech issues with getting it to work. From the news post of the update itself it says "Finally, please note that it's not yet possible to fight Nex in an instance." Not yet possible clearly indicates it will be possible at some point.

Yeah phonetic alphabet code for GWD, makes me wonder if the 'wife' is some how meant to reference Nex and it's a really short-term hint to say tht the Nex instancing/hard-mode is ready now.

Ture i spose the dumb research free journalist factor plays in to it, but still the way he phrased it really sounds nothing at all like the rs model. Anyway: The trailer is official atleast.

Runescape Featured in PC Gamer
Yeah they did that whole e-reader timeline of rs didn't they? That one with the omfg so so so so so beyond 'pr spin' plain lying stuff (like adding microtransactions after popular response to the intro of sof)

Divination - one of the new skills reported by IGN
I dunno if that gives me more confidence or not seeing as he said it's going to be 'freemium' same as it is now but you can 'buy minor enhancements' but all the content costs nothing. Simply because this does not describe the RS model at all, nothing about members buys 'minor' enhancements - it outright buys like 90% of the games content. Equally all the content does not 'cost nothing' - as I just said like 90% of it is members.

Divination - one of the new skills reported by IGN
I could imagine divination working as a sort of magic gathering skill. Like harvest enchantments off of ancient things, harvest power from knowledge/secrets either at locations or from peoples heads, collect errant magical energies. Would offer a way to slip in lots of lore snippets and could offer us energy based resources (kinda like chi globes) that could then be either turned into plans that unlock stuff in other skills or directly formed into items of some sort.

^I'd agree except that they make it pretty expressly clear the Sliske Emissary is a fan-girl esque stalkerish person who is very much for sliske and sliske alone; nothing to do with Zaros. @Seren I typed whilst listening only hit them saying Seren & Zaros as I type this (Which kinda disproves lions point further) So we actually have 6 100% confirmed: Sliske, Arma, Seren, Zamorak, Zaros, Godless. Sara and Bandos gotta be the other 2 for sure cause just duh. Edit: Oh and they mentioned Marimbo & Tumeken/Pantheon as the 'not included' plus mentioned being in the Sara faction. So I guess the only one of the 8 unconfirmed is Bandos. Also I'm curious if we have any insights on the Chaos Elemental hint from the end: "The wife of the prancing pony plays golf drinks whisky and sits below the delta" My first thoughts on 'prancing pony' part would be the Dancing Donkey Inn (Varrock) or the Flying Horse Inn (Ardougne) Delta is usual a rich fertile area near a river (Eg the nile delta) makes me think of the Scarabas area in SE desert or possibly a swampy location (lumby, mort myre, maybe poison waste) 'Below the Delta' really could kinda be most of them if you took below as in a dungeon (rather than south). I guess it might knock out poison waste since we know Dwarves won though.

Interesting in the podcast http://fansites.podomatic.com/entry/2013-05-02T13_44_25-07_00 They mention Sliske has an emissary. So that only really leaves 1 slot up for speculation. 1-3 are Arma Zammy and Godless/Guthix from BTS 4-6 Have gotta be Sara, Zaros and Bandos cause the big 6 gotta all be in there 7 podcast suggests is Sliske 8 I'd still say is a toss up of Seren or Tumeken/Pantheon; unless they done it weird and 8 is like "lesser god" and is meant to be Seren, Tumeken/Pantheon, Brassica, Marimbo, Kara god, frem god etc. all rolled into 1

True test will be what the weekly bts vid says when it finally appears (though it does seem a bit late now) given the 3rd may dating it's plausible the absent vid is the big reveal and ign have jumped the gun.

RS client for osr and regular game
Erm all I can think of is make sure 'language=0' is set right to match w/e you run the client as. 0 - English 1 - German 2 - French 3 - Brazil Portegese 6 - Spanish Not done the windows one personally, but had many friends do it without hitch. Edit: Skimming I might've added the '-' before dcom.... by accident, try taking tht out.

RS client for osr and regular game
It's a bit complex but doable. (This also works for making a NIS Alpha Client) For Windows: Go to find your jagex cache at either (replace {user} with your username) C:\Users\{user}\jagexcache\jagexlauncher\ or C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\jagexcache\jagexlauncher\ There should be a 'runescape' folder, copy it and paste a copy rename the copy to 'oldschool' In that folder there should be a file called 'runescape' (or runescape.prm if you have file extensions visible) inside the old school folder rename this to 'oldschool' and right-click open with notepad. In the notepad find the line: Dcom.jagex.config=http://www.runescape.com/k=3/l=$(Language:0)/jav_config.ws Edit this too: Dcom.jagex.config=http://oldschool.runescape.com/jav_config.ws Save this then find the shortcut used to open the client and create a copy of it, edit the properties of this to rename it to 'Old school' and change where it says 'Jagexlauncher[Caution: Executable File] runescape' To 'Jagexlauncher[Caution: Executable File] oldschool' Now your old shortcut will load normal rs, the new one will load oldschool. For Mac: Copy and paste the application to get a copy and rename this old school. Right-Click 'show package contents' Go into 'contents' and find info.plist In here find <string>http://www.runescape.com/k=3/l=$(Language:0)/jav_config.ws</string> Edit this too: <string>http://oldschool.runescape.com/jav_config.ws</string> Save out and the new version runs old school, the original runs live game. Both these can be used for the NIS alpha simply: For windows just name the folder and file alpha and direct the shortcut at alpha And (for both) when editing the file instead of changing the whole thing just change 'www' to 'world101' Has result of loading the interface alpha in the client (especially handy for mac users)

I couldn't agree more. We really need a massive update to farming by now. And to be able to have your own dragon farm...Hehe. Now that is just awesome. The trouble is whilst farming may have much you could include they need some purpose beyond farming. I mean all the vegetables are next to useless already other than a couple of stat booster things since cooking is dominated by fish due to them being simple easy food to process. If anything the case we have so few useful seed is an argument against adding stuff to every single level for the sake of it: 80 odd useless farming things won;t improve the skill.

I had a clan mate face this the other day and they reported thusly: You don't actually NEED to do Heroes to get Ice Gloves, you can get in to the Ice Queen lair and kill her for them without it.

Behind the Scenes: May 2013
I think it's the system where each skill's mouseover shows you how much bonus xp you have left in that skill, like the bonus hunter/prayer xp we had a while back. Not sure though. Yeah sounds to me like that is the system they are gonna use to uniformly store bonus xp in. So presumably when you own gold mining outfit etc, hovering over mining will show 5% bonus and you will always get it. Whilst when you have pendants it'd show the amount remaining eg 80k 500k etc.

30-Apr-2013 - Instanced God Wars & EoC Updates
I'm not entirely sure what you meant to say. Why would you lol at someone in full melee gear fighting something that only uses Ranged? Isn't that practically the only time you should be wearing a full set of classed items - when you expect to be hit by only what you're strongest against? Yeah full melee vs a ranger makes perfect sense - combat triangle at work. Full melee vs mager doesn't - but this is runescape many people still want to blindly be one combat class and most pick melee as the old hat ruler of the roost. It strikes me as odd that apprently hybrid gear is meant to lower some stats to push towards balance according to what you are wearing, seems very counter intuitive. I always assumed hybrid/all type gear just gave flat rate to all styles since that is kinda what you'd expect especially coming from the old system where hybrid gear was always like +100 to stab, slash, crush, range and mage def.

I fear you've sorely misunderstood everything I said. By ambiguity, I meant that the gods would not be represented as their stereotypes. We've seen a slight hint in this vein by Saradomin's clearly ulterior motives - that he is not purely "good" just because he is law, that "law" as an attribute may be separated from its positive connotation making way for a far more interesting narrative. As for Zamorak in particular, there would appear an implied focus on the value of the individual, of striving for personal goals (not necessarily only gaining power), but I have no idea why you would take that to mean that one cannot have allies. As for Zaros... I had thought it confirmed he was to be the god of control. In either case I don't see how it's relevant. My bad on Zaros, it is control. Also Saradomin is not the 'good' god or the god of law. His ethos is Order - order has to be created and maintained by force or perceived force at least. I misunderstood what you meant by 'ambiguity' because it was a slight mis-use of the word - if you want them to have more characteristics than their ethos alone that is anything but ambiguous as we have to be shown/told them. @Hedgehog they don't *have* to represent something, but most of the gods thus far have all been given an ethos that they represent that has been created through their attitude and teachings (or implied to be as such) Saradomin is Order Armadyl is Justice Zaros is Control Zamorak is Chaos Guthix is Balance Bandos is sort of odd one out being the 'god of war' as his is less an ethos more a mercenary-nature. Tumeken and Seren haven't been shown to have any major ethos as of yet, Skargaroth and Tuska have been talked about not particularly being 'gods' in the sense we think of them. Skargaroth is just some who wants to kill powerful beasts, who happens to be a god, and Tuska is a mindless animal that happened to attain godhood.

Behind the Scenes: May 2013
I don't see how you hope to have ambiguity on the gods when they are all coming back to literally walk around in front of us. I also fear you will be sorely disappointed with Zamorak considering we know he doesn't work alone for just his gain, all the lore we have him involves allies and accomplices. Plus we know his core tenants revolve around chaos, not around gaining power. If you want someone about gaining power regardless of others Zaros is a more likely fit being the god of Might and all.
