16-Apr-13 Duel Arena: Go Forth and Duel
Everybody knows what's wrong with them, or at least anyone who keeps up with these things >.>. Latin mentions these things because he knows and cares a lot about magic, and because he's been one of the first people to note the bug and report it. Naturally he's going to be upset that Jagex manages to ignore the issues that affect class balance the most, and he's not the only one. The whole Duel Arena update is completely trivial compared to 10% dps loss for magic as a whole. In fact every single update since this bug was added is trivial in comparison. It's not very good for Jagex' record that they never ever manage to fix these bugs in time - magic (leech) curses were broken for ages pre-EoC as well. Any caring player would be upset about this, not complaining that people mention it. We need to spread the word a bit, or nothing will get done. I was not complaining that people mentioned it; only that the only person I've ever seen mention it is Latin and I've never seen anyone actually say what is wrong with it. I mean I read near everything here and I skim RSOF from time to time and literally not seen a whisper of this other than Latin mentioning it.

Sometimes people mention random things like this and it is always the same person and no-one else seems to have any idea wtf is meant to be wrong. So what exactly is 'broken' on mage prayers?

HTML5 Client
Yeah cause people who want a client are annoyed because they can't bookmark the game  The client issue is to do with having an external client to the browser to achieve greater FPS due to not having to run the browser to access the game. This is particularly important to Linux users and users on older systems where browser run can put a serious dent into the overall performance of the game.

16-Apr-13 Duel Arena: Go Forth and Duel
This is very good news for clans as maintenance and upkeep will be much easier. Hopefully we'll see more higher tier citadels and also less pressure to just mine or woodcut each week. You do realise they have only changed the VISITOR requirements; the resources as in wood, stone, cloth etc all still stand exactly as they were before. Also I didn't even realise HYT was still going along doing citadel, shame we can't get more official status for it - I mean ones like RuneHQ that are official are nearly always at the max 500 members

From the mail! Tbf like Mod Chris said - since this is basically a beta for the rendering engine and all the game data and account data are handle by an entirely different unaltered system losing items in the beta due to glitches is next to impossible. That bit of the mail is just a cover yo ass kinda statement though. Firstly because many will assume its like eoc beta and go charging in, lose all their gear then whine and secondly because of the unlikely event some glitch-tastic explosion happens and you do lose items to it. Both cases Jagex got the ass covered on giving items back or doing rollbacks as they upfront warned you.

Max cape & Keepsake box
Yeah as already covered for customisable they can only store 1 setup so if you can buy a 2nd, customise it and then put it on (forcing the game to generate and save the looks) it will over-write the keepsake data for it to cause new colours, should work for Max and Comps. (In theory it ought to also work for like herald, clan, and wicked stuff + the various re-colourable sof outfits too.)

Some of the RSOF stuff does make me lol - How many people are getting all raged up that their system won't be able to run it in spite of the fact their system specs are built from like 10+ old parts and have specs that most budget laptops can beat. But hardly surprising whenever anything new pc based comes out (sims etc. etc. etc.) you get some getting all butthurt over the reqs being too high for their archaic machine because they just don't grasp the fact technology moves forward and developers are not going to water down their product to run on systems so old that you can easily replace them with a budget build because they want to show off what is possible and make it all sparkly and amazing for the average machine and super awesome for high spec machines. Personally I hope it can run on my mac at least at mid-low settings since I got 2.4Ghz process and 8gb ram, and I'm fairly sure my super desktop can run it (though since my desktop is dated by like 2-3 years now it's not as cutting edge as it once was; but I can easily bolster it with a bigger GPU and a bit more ram if I so desire.)

11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
Well from all the work done several pages back now on voyages reqs vs returns the optimum general setup was 5 ea of the normals, 3 JOD, 3 Merch and 4 Ox so unless you are suggesting the way you happen to use them some how trumps the mathematical facts of the the reqs vs rewards the 5/5/5/3/3/4 is the way to go.

Imo If they do Yanille, Ardougne, Hemenster, Rimmington, Sarim, Seers and Cathurby they got most everywhere up to a respectable level. Though based on current standards the aforementioned plus lumb, fally, varrock, draynor, all the fremmy lands, elf lands, the mory towns and islands, karammja etc could all have much more done to them.

This has been going on for nearly a decade. Jagex: We're going to do amazing upgrades to our graphics. Starting with Lumbridge, then Varrok, oh hey we've got new technology let's start over. Lumbridge, Varrok, Falador, oh hey new technology let's start over. Lumbridge, varrok, Falador, Ardougne, oh hey new technology... Tbf this time round they seem to be doing better. First and foremost the graphics have got good enough that without serious tech advancements they can't go much better (other than the odd little polish with smaller things) so hopefully there will be a buffer period this time. Plus the managed to ignore lumby, fally and varrock thus far in favour of other areas we got lately (slayer tower, general polish to mory, southern desert and kharid, DA, Cwars, wizards tower, thrope and taverly, the big dungeon set a while back etc.)

Really?... You know they are working on graphical updates just as constantly as regular content updates yet you would you say that. Ideally though one place that needs its immensely would be the feldip hills area and possibly the whole of karamja. Yanille would obviously be included with the feldip hills. Let me restate this: jagex uses filler numbers for their interfaces in the rs3 interface screenshots. It makes perfect sense that they would use fillers for everything else too. Um, hardly? So many areas are straight from the beginning of RS2, and here we're going on RS3. It's really quite ridiculous that 3/4 of the map and countless quest areas are going to be the same as they've been since release. I really don't think it would have been asking too much for them to hold off "RS3" before they could at least update most of the surface. We're lucky to get a graphical overhaul a month, and even then it's usually confined to a small area (case in point - Castle Wars, and before that, Slayer Tower, and not even the monsters!). Maybe we'll get a Magic Guild update next. They'll put up some new walls and doors but leave the wizards in 2003 bliss and call it a day. But what would be the point of holding off on RS3 to create new graphics when RS3 requires everything to be recoded? If anything it makes more sense to get RS3 out first in order to save dev time overall; besides most places have been updated since RS2, sure many are not up to scratch with the newest places, but jeeze they only been doing that standard for a few months give em a chance it takes time! Plus they have already basically outright said they have plans to do it all they are just tying it to quests and such where possible. And this month two of the least updates places got entire makeovers (Dual Arena and Cwars). I mean do you really expect them to stop making new content entirely and just spend like 3-4 months doing all the graphics? That'd be ridculous new content is what people play RS for. I think they are keeping a perfectly respectable pace with the new graphics coming in with atleast 1 or 2 batches of graphic stuff each month thus far.

09-Apr-2013 - Castle Wars: Revamped
--Mark Rosewater Agreed completely. This is precisely what I have been saying for ages on TIF, and this precisely why I don't take the "Well, it's the choice of the players, no one forced them to do it" crowd seriously. As every psychologist and sociologist worth a dime understands and have understood for ages, humans are tremendously impacted by their environment. If you have a gaming environment that incentivizes players to do obviously stupid things, then players will do obviously stupid things despite how obviously stupid they are. I agree no end - I enjoy playing Runescape no end but there are numerous mind numbing ridculous things I subject myself to in the name of wanting that accolade on trimmed comp cape. Just the same as I'll gladly play a console game for hundreds of hours (skyrim) or for several play throughs to go for 100%. And I don't even stop at comp cape, I want to fill my costume room too (with exclusions seeing as scythe and bunny ears are unobtainable) I have a list of all the treasure chest items I yet need for it & now exactly what the cabinets are missing (infinite and cwars armour) and know what capes are lacking (the 5 cwars ones + the 99s I lack)

Thinking about coming back for RS07 - how similar is it really?
The number of bots varies according to how active the players are. The less of a market there is for the bots, the less bots there will be. Very true but their presence can never the less put people off to the point of quitting hence why I included them in factors that leaves OSRS future very much in the air - at this young stage it could easily go either way, but it is at least worth acknowledging the seeds of it's possible demise do exist.

Thinking about coming back for RS07 - how similar is it really?
^The assumption it will get better may be flawed because this mild disillusionment with the game as is coupled with a surge of bots and payment structure supposed to be added in a few months after Jagex '6 month free as a thank you' thing could be the very factors that may it die out. If too many are disillusioned and stop playing, the bot populace to player ratio expands and the payment plan makes people less willing to play it the whole thing could slide into the same state as RSC, except with playing figures mildly bolstered by open to join.

a little help needed
Hijacked How do you block challenges? Get 99 (or 120 for dg or 200 cmb 'combat' category) then go to the reward guy talk, pick toggle max challenges. Turn off any you have hit the level for that you do not want (aka all of them)

Set fish free
It may be pointless post quest but it does serve a purpose initially: Split logs are required to repair the bridges. It'd be pretty lame if no skill-related quest tasks offered any xp just because they aren't all that useful after the quest.

a little help needed
Haha did those ever get nerfed? I remember doing one when it came out and getting a shit ton of dungeoneering xp. They didn't need to be nerfed, they were rewarding for what they asked you to do but not too insanely high. Dg only seems high because it goes far beyond the 13m 99, but even when your getting 100k a task it still is comparable to your max 5 man floor done large with max prestige. Don't forget after all 99's 13m xp is only 1/8th of the total xp for 120 thanks to the xp curve doubling every 7 levels. With 104m required for lvl 120 100k xp is a drop in the ocean, like 0.1% of the total xp required.

Future Update Discussions
I think it's very unlikely that Jagex would use the same complex symbol just as a random decoration. Jagex is known for very drawn-out, highly secretive storyline hints that can stick around for years without anyone ever noticing them. Adding all of these symbols to the world that only seemed to show up after The World Wakes was added seems like a very deliberate decision. The question is what it actually represents. My best guess is something related to Sliske, or the Elder Gods. There's a reason it seems like every magical institution in Gielinor seems to be researching it. But they didn't appear after that. The two in GWD appeared when it was graphically made over like a year ago. The wizard's tower one came when it was made over recently. The port one was there from the start. The only trend is it has appeared in new graphics and Jagex do have a history of plastering certain symbols about and then retconing some when they decide it has meaning. Eg Drakan's castle once looked identical to the Dragonkin one seen in Tail of Two Cats but was retconned in later graphical tweaks as it was not meant to be the same. Or like 1/2 the grave stones around Runescape had a Zaros symbol on them before we even knew of Zaros symbol and they mostly got removed when graphics changes happened. I'd say your whole view point is wrong Jagex graphics historically speaking have a tendency to repeat symbols all over the place for no real reason with very few of them being given a purpose or use and those that do often get removed from places they used to be because of it.

Also is it not true that port score does NOT go down? Ergo you do NOT have to keep the top scoring buildings you can revert to Nautical Shipwright

The difference being many of the minor actions Jagex are adding xp too are things done in the course of normal training anyway, they aren't wedging in an extra action that doesn't really serve any purpose other than a glorified and probably slower drop. Eg Making unfs - Even if you buy them in to add seconds *someone* made them but most folks (til you hit the extremes) will be making unfs to make pots.

Utterly pointless.
