  1. Old price: 30 days = 26.5 cents/day 90 days = 25 cents/day New price: 35 days: 28.5 cents/day 100 days = 25 cents a day So if you want to get the same amount of money's worth, go for the 100 day package. It's the only of the two that suitably raised its days to match the price. Jagex should have raised it to 37-38 days to match the price increase.
  2. A goal for our governments should be the end of human rights abuses that go on in China, the gold farming is just another subsection of those abuses. But the point in this news article, as I've said before, is that when you're buying gold from these Chinese gold farmers, you're not doing it from some guy trying to get through college. You're actively funding some guy getting his ass beaten with a PVC pipe because he didn't make quota the previous week. I somehow doubt that's true for the majority of gold sellers. And even if it were, I'd rather them make money off the prisoners than go back to finger-chopping. But according to the article, the gold farming is happening in addition to the "finger chopping." It's not one or the other, it's both.

  4. He's likely living in another country now.
  5. It's because of complacency that this is allowed to continue. The point in stories like this is to get people aware of how a previously assumed innocuous activity is being perverted by the equivalent of human trash. The forced labor for Runescape gold through physical and psychological torture is, in effect, no different than the blood diamond trade through Africa, or how there has been rampant suicide at the iPad manufacturing plant because of how bad the conditions are. All for luxury goods. Stories like this are to show that there is a reason to stop gold buying other than the easily dismissed reasons (in-game economy, health of community, etc). It's to make the buyers say "is my playing gold really worth some guy getting beaten with a pipe somewhere because he didn't make quota?" Gold farming is an interesting economy, because it's one of the few where the gold farmers bluntly [bleep] over the consumer, and yet the amount of gold traded (estimated) continues to rise each year. Look at World of Warcraft, Rift, Aion, and the other top MMOs and you'll see rampant account theft by gold farmers looking to clear the accounts or use them as mules and spambots. How many times have you heard in Runescape of people getting their accounts stolen and then banned for real world trading? We must rely on the developers to make it such a living hell for gold farmers and botters that the practice is no longer economically viable. And I know what you're going to say "oh they'll just put them back on physical labor." They're already doing physical labor, this is just in addition. You knock out gold farming in prisons, and what does that mean? It means a prisoner at least gets to sleep. It's extra time that they may eat, or even have some down time. It's less beatings because they aren't meeting quota. It doesn't fix the situation, but it makes it that much better. Fixing labor camps is out of our league, out of Jagex's league, and out of Blizzard's league. This is something those of us who have the freedom need to elect people into positions of power to enforce. But we can do our part to at least stifle the trade, making potential buyers aware of what they are supporting by handing over their credit card number/paypal/account for power leveling. It must be approached from both sides, the consumer and the distributor.
  6. The Guardian is running a story about a whistleblower Liu Dali, who was a prisoner at the Jixi labor camp for three years. Jixi is a forced labor camp where criminals and political dissenters are placed where they do menial, back breaking labor like breaking rocks or carving toothpicks. By day, Dali breaks rocks, and by night he would be forced to play World of Warcraft to farm gold that the prison would later sell. And this isn't just one prison. Dali believes that the prisons throughout north east China are also taking part in forced labor on MMOs including WoW. I guess the lesson to be learned here is don't buy gold from Chinese gold farmers, because if you do you support human slavery. Buy American (just kidding, don't buy gold at all)
  7. Yea, the five thousand was just a number I pulled out as an example. I'd also like to point out that I don't include myself in this group. I've received two pieces of gold armor since the lava flow mines came out.
  8. The 1 in 5,000 was an example of how the caps would be a high number. I know how probability is supposed to work, don't talk to me like I'm an idiot. Personally, I don't think a player should have to kill five thousand goblins to get a measly champions challenge scroll, but I'm willing to compromise in a manner that would keep these objects rare, but at the same time attainable by players. The caps would be a point where the game says "this isn't just the RNG being inherently unfair." The problem with random number generators is that for someone, somewhere the number will never hit that 4,000 or 8,000 needed for the 2 in 10,000 random drop. The caps would be outside the estimated time/exp most players would need to obtain the events, and as such maintains the rarity of the events themselves. In short, it's an update geared toward the outlying few percent. The grand majority would not even be affected by the update.
  9. Yes. Absolutely. I'm not a market player, I just like seeing how prices fluctuate over time. I'm a nerd.
  10. I know how much Jagex loves their random number generator, but in the case of mini-games and mini-mini-games, it heavily favors some players over others. How many of you have put hours upon hours since lava flow mine released and haven't found a single nymph, while those around you have full sets? I have. Or killed endless amounts of creatures without a single champions challenge scroll? Missed a week with Shattered Heart because you couldn't get just one...[bleep]ing...rock to drop. My idea has a guaranteed stop at which you are guaranteed to get a specific event, a little like the random event guarantee after a certain amount of time. This does NOT apply to weapon/armor drops from bosses. Examples of what this would apply to: 1. Bones for rag and bone man. 2. Lava flow mine nymphs. 3. Champions scroll drops. 4. Shattered heart stones. 5. Phoenix Lair egg drop. 6. God bird egg drop from trees. Other mini-games that this would change are Circus tent, where once you obtain all of the rewards in a specific point range, you start receiving rewards from ranges below yours (you'll still run out of rewards eventually until you hit a higher point range). It's important to note that this system won't be generous. At all. I'm talking, if there is a 1 in 5,000 chance of getting a champion challenge scroll, then the cap for a specific creature before you are guaranteed a scroll is five thousand kills. The cap for the liquid gold nymph would be something like five hours of pure mining (not walking around or idle) without getting a nymph, but if you get a nymph and miss it because you aren't paying attention the timer still resets the five hours. The shattered heart drops could be based on an xp cap in a skill at some high level that is still manageable in a week. I specifically leave out tradeable drops because having that rare chance of drops is integral to Runescape's economy, but what this does is it changes the random aspect of specific mini-games so that the rewards still require a lot of work for those who the RNG does not favor, but a player will never fall into the pit of never obtaining a specific reward simply because the RNG never rolls in their favor.

  12. I sometimes do this just to make them nervous. You can tell it works when they start yelling at you saying stuff like stfu idgaf if I get banned lol noobs etc. Only if they've been a douche though. I suppose it has its place. The reporter becomes even more irritating than the person they reported when they themselves start spamming "everyone report ___ for breaking rule #" and "reported enjoy your ban noob"
  13. They almost all died at different times.
  14. Solution: Don't be a strength pure.
  15. I think you get it. Really, I've often said the same thing - Upgrading F2P areas almost exclusively is pretty much just lying to potential members. Because, of course, the awesome increase in areas from F2P->P2P is a lot less impressive when they find out those areas look like [cabbage]/use game mechanics that are outdated by years. But what does JaG care if they've already signed, right? Usually not this negative lol... On the "Death Hats": Maybe if one of the evolutions resembles the Ranger Helmet from FNV or Helghasts I'll become a pro PKer. It could happen... Not to mention a lot of the free updates have been getting pulled lately. Dropping stuff from the bank? Revoked. Those small jobs in Lumbridge? That was wasted development time. Tutors that were put in and quickly removed. Tournaments. Bounty Hunter, etc.
  16. It's definitely a different thing to put something like a casino into a multiplayer (of varying ages) game like RS, but I think it might not be that bad of an idea. It would make an excellent money sink and they could keep the potential payouts small to prevent too much excess gp being pumped back into the economy. Perhaps they could make it like a solo mini-game; they could give out tokens instead of gp, and players could have the choice of trading in tokens for cash or prizes (think Skeeball but with better rewards). Fallen Earth is an example of an MMO with slot machines that works. Darkfall also allows you to put slot machines in your house, there are two types and each type draws from its own global jackpots. I like the idea of Runescape's slot machines using tokens rather than GP, as money plays a much bigger role in Runescape than it does in either Darkfall or Fallen Earth.
  17. I can't stand players who don't understand the concept of "report and move on." It's one thing to report someone, you don't have to stand there and go "lol reported." If someone is firing off insults every which way, telling them you reported them just incites them further, it doesn't make them go "oh man, I just had an epiphany. I'll be a good player now, thank you."

Agreed, but OP needs to understand they're part of the game and that those wilderness areas are there so people can get killed. The second best part of being pked while running the abyss is drinking a one dose prayer potion and protecting my glory. The best part is glorying to edgeville, grabbing a bunch of runes (or bow and arrow) and downing that wannabe pker while he calls you a "stupid noob" or a "hacker"

Now you see why this guy loves his job. How many other managers would just love to kick someone's ass for harassing his employees? This guy has just that opportunity. He's not stupid, he's an opportunist.
  20. Back when I was a kid, pretty much everyone had a Nintendo 64, and in turn almost all of them had action replays. Cheating in a single player game was fine, mostly because it extended the enjoyment of the game. Unlimited health and unlimited bazooka ammo in Army Men = Rampaging until the game actually crashed. We all understood that when people got together to play games like Mario Party, that the action replay was removed, and everyone played fair. You didn't use a cheat to give yourself stars, you got the 50 coins and used Boo to steal it from someone. Sure the "I will punch you in the god damn mouth if you steal my star," was thrown around, but ultimately everyone had fun. If you tried entering in button-combo cheats, printing Pokemon cards to use against other people, or upturning the chess board. Short and simply: If you want to cheat at cards, grab a deck and go play Solitaire by yourself so you can look at the face down cards, nobody cares. Just don't sit at the poker table with those of us who know how to play a proper game. And as for the "it's just a game," that was exactly why you didn't cheat in my neighborhood. Because if you got that invested in a game that you needed to cheat to get ahead of other players, you direly needed to put the controller down, go outside, and find something better to do with your life. Putting an action replay into Pokemon to get 99 master balls may get you Mewtwo, but you'd still be regarded as the kid who didn't have the capacity to play a game with a d-pad and two buttons.
  21. Well you have to factor in that most of the people who buy it are actually enjoying the content and don't share your opinions, tough as that may be to comprehend.

Tried every browser and the RS client with no luck. But there is something Jagex can do about it. Find what is causing it and why, and stop it causing the issue. Yes, the problem is with Java, but it is caused by Runescape. If they can't fix the problem they can at least give us an answer as to why it occurs and when to expect it/how to prevent it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOOIxTeDu0Q At 7:45ish, happens on video. Actually, it's a problem inherent in Java itself. It happens when Java has a problem drawing the image, which can be related to a number of things including the computer's GPU. There is, however, nothing Jagex can do. That's an issue SUN is going to have to fix. As another fix, try changing what Java version Runescape uses.

Wadebling's username reminds me of a certain troll who completely deserved his ban. Then again, I might be thinking of something else.
  25. Omali replied to GuidesForScapers's topic in Rants
White screening is a bug due to Java. Make sure you Java is completely up to date, and try using the client or Internet Explorer when you play Runescape. Inherently, it's a problem that exists with Java, nothing Jagex can do about it. Things to do: 1. Uninstall Java and its components, reinstall. 2. Switch browsers/use the client.
