People killing runecrafters
It's a rather simple answer: This is a role playing game. You take an area that is known for defenseless (almost defenseless anyway) people with a small but easily gained sum of cash, and there will be bandits there to rob them.

Refer a Friend Programme - 18 Aug 2011
I think this time around gold farmers will refrain from using stolen credit cards. Remember the lengths Jagex was willing to go through to stop mass-membership-bots using stolen cards, because of the ramifications of their bank refusing to process credit cards due to the high level of chargebacks (yes, this is a real factor, look it up). If gold farmers use stolen credit cards, they risk losing their market almost entirely and going back to the old ways of 75k every 15 minutes. So they'll keep it as legit as possible, although some will still use stolen cards, because they don't want to sweep the rug out from below their own feet in the long run.

Beware! 'Jagex' scam email!
As much as I appreciate the intention, people really need to stop posting new threads every time they get a slightly different email.

Jiblix and Ken Genosis Demodded Over Speaking Out
Patience? Jagex has stated multiple times, over multiple years, that they have an end-all, beat all for bots. Why should we believe that this time is going to be any different?

I didn't really find it that difficult of a concept to understand, they don't contradict one another. We don't make money on bots = We don't profit off of them. What he's saying is that the money that bots pay (legitimately, after the chargebacks for fraudulent credit cards is factored) goes toward their bot busting team. Figure 20k pounds a year in salary for each person on this team (plus a basket of fruit every day per person), and that requires about four thousand bots for every employee, not factoring in other costs. So if this team carries maybe five people, that is a twenty thousand bot requirement, each paying legitimately, not factoring in other costs. Then factor in Jagex's legal attacks on the gold farmers and that number skyrockets. I think the idea is great as long as they can implement it properly, I like the idea of my membership money going purely to developing updates rather than fighting bots.

23-Aug-2011 New Rewards for Minigames
If you enjoy Great Orb Project and hate grinding runecrafting, the 30 hours of a mini-game you like and probably would have played anyway to save 5.5 hours of something you don't might be worth it.

Andrew sells Jagex.
Andrew couldn't have sold Runescape, because he was just a figment of our collective imagination.

"omg you're not answering my stupid questions you are a bot!"
Sure they can. Every time you move the mouse even the slightest amount, it sends data to the computer to let it know where to position the mouse on screen, and what to interact with. This data can easily be picked up with Java, and Jagex does use something like this to track bots, although all but the most basic have a large area of random spots to click to throw off a detection program.
-
Is this game even playable anymore?
Each bot at 16 hours = 8 hours less production = 1/3rd cut in productivity. Every cut in productivity knocks the smaller gold sellers out of the market who aren't profiting enough until all you have left is the big guys, who are easier to track.

Behind the Scenes - August
I'm looking forward to the Myreque quest and the Temple Trekking update. Jagex can apparently read my mind, because I was writing up an article for MMO Fallout on old, unused content and I included several Runescape mini-games including Temple Trekking...now I have to rewrite it.

I'd like to point out that in the world of sex, spanking isn't an oddity.

18-Jul-2011 - Cryptic Clue Fest 3 - UPDATED WITH ALL ANSWERS
You can start them at any time before the clue fest ends. Technically speaking, you can do them all the last day. The fun is keeping up with them as they progress.

cooked anchovies? Know fair few did that. Cooked anchovies = Anchovies Raw anchovies = Raw anchovies. Gone to Murky Mat NOT avalai(sp?) That bit was kinda epic misleading since original post said you bring items to me, yet day 2 and we bring items elsewhere. Ahh, I took them raw. Gracias.

I must be doing something wrong. 5 anchovies, 2 bread, 1 garlic, still won't talk to me. Finished yesterday's bit.

Understanding How Bots Work
Only botting and selling bots/scripts is not illegal. The only thing Jagex can do is like they did to RS Bot... Make it change it's name. Otherwise, botting is completely legal (Although against Jagex's rules). You should read what I wrote. I didn't say anything about bots/scripts, I said gold farmers. Gold farming is illegal, no matter which way you look at it. But since you brought up bots/scripts, I'd support shutting those down via illegal methods as well. What can I say, my sense of justice is closer to Rorschach than Captain America.

Understanding How Bots Work
I always thought it'd be funny if a group like lulzsec started taking payments on the side from developers to DDOS and shut down gold farming websites. It would not only shut the websites down, but it would force ISPs like GoDaddy to better control who they accept as customers, because otherwise it means datarape on their servers on a constant basis. What are the gold farmers gonna do, sue? "YOU STOPPED ME FROM DOING MY ILLEGAL ACTIVITY" Who cares what some trashbag company in Beijing thinks? This'll be the few times I'd be happy our legal system protects corporate interests.

Dutch court ruling on kids forcing another to hand over RS goods
But until Jagex introduces micro-transactions, those goods belong to Jagex, not the kid. Therefore, the kid had nothing stolen from him, nor was any of that "real monetary value" even his. Actually, even when microtransactions do get added, you will still not own the item. You're paying for a license for the item, not the item itself. Everything still belongs to Jagex. Personally they shouldn't be worrying about who owns what. Let's focus on putting those psychopathic little [bleep]ers away for a long time that would threaten to knife someone over video game goods.

01-Jul-2011 - Behind the Scenes July
There were two cryptic clue fests. They really are a fun activity. Edit: Actually, I should say they're fun when completed. Jagex has a habit of putting a complete moron in charge of writing the clues, and more often than not they've had to change the puzzles because they don't actually work, or don't lead to the answer Jagex wanted.

What Loyalty Rewards Say to Me
It is? Because Jagex's financial reports show they've been gaining profit year on year, every year since 2003 when the game really started taking off. But since you're clearly more informed than Jagex's own accountants and lawyers, do tell where you obtained this information. I said player database going down which I extrapolated from this. You could try using actually related facts next time. Jagex's profits from subscriptions has gone up, meaning more subscribers. Their profits from advertising have increased, meaning more free players looking at ads. More free players, more subscribers, yet you still think the numbers are shrinking. What exactly does the "player database" mean, in your line of thinking? Because if it isn't number of active players/subscribers (which is going up), then what?

What Loyalty Rewards Say to Me
Jagex is 100% dependent on increasing membership sales. Always have been, always will be. Now Jagex is working on 8Realms, Stellar Dawn, Transformers Online, and an unnamed fantasy MMO, anything left after Runescape's development/maintenance costs are figured in is probably gone to their other projects. Take a look at CCP, they have over 300 thousand subscribers for Eve Online, and they're being bankrupted by the development of World of Darkness and DUST 514. Just be glad Jagex didn't take the same route and open up a cash shop. They're a business, and at heart they're rather amateur businessmen. Loyalty rewards have been used in MMOs for almost a decade now, and that's by MMOs where you either pay or you don't play at all. The presence of loyalty rewards isn't going to bring less content to Runescape, in case you hadn't noticed the multitude of content that has come out this month. No they aren't. Content isn't being replaced.

What if Jagex changed the rules and permitted botting?
Prime example of why old school gamers are elitist to today's gamers. if you can't have it immediately, you want to cheat for it. If you have to put some brain power into it, you want to cheat for it. If it involves repetitive tasks, you want to cheat for it. There are plenty of single player games that can fulfill your childish need for instant gratification.

23-Jun-2011 - Introducing: the Members Loyalty Programme!
Stat-affecting loyalty rewards place too much emphasis on time, rather than work, put into the game. Think of how ridiculous it would be to have bunny ears give optimal strength bonus, or completionist capes only available to those with classic veteran access. I would NOT like to see any stat-affecting loyalty rewards, but I'm sure that will happen anyways. Pay us $5.95 now and we add the belt slot where you can hold 30 extra inventory spaces in your belt or wear a belt with +12 strength bonus! If you buy members with the membership card we will also give you a Katana (e), which has a special that heals and hits 25% extra. The special is mage based, as well. O ya and the Katana has the strength bonus of the chaotic maul. I'm getting crushed under this unrealistic slippery slope!

Future Update Discussions
Sounds like it's relegated to Tzhaar fight pits, the player vs player arena, not the city as a whole. Sorry, you're still going to have to fight off bots.
