  1. Fixed again. Well that's one week I'm skipping. Jagex and these kinds of mini-games go together like crappy, awkwardly played mini-games and the engine that can barely handle them.

Those couple of days could have been spent simply locating the source of the problem. In my website analogy, it took me a couple hours just to find the source of the issue, which was spent cross-checking HTML code. Andrew said last year that Runescape was hitting a million lines of code, and Java is much more complicated than just HTML. I agree with your idea that Jagex should be finishing updates weeks ahead of time, but the thing is most developers do this. Look at Left 4 Dead 2, which was delayed several hours before release because of a hole that was found literally at the last moment.

I was working on my website, and I found that a few of my tags weren't working, so I dove into the code and found a rogue list tag sitting by itself, screwing up the page and completely breaking the formatting. I removed it and, upon previewing the page again, it was even worse than it was before. The editor wigged out and started duplicating several lines of code every time I would move from code-view to preview. I checked and found that the rogue list tag I deleted earlier was breaking one part of the page, but supporting an entire other section, causing the duplication (the system was trying to close the tag by copying the code, but ultimately ended up copying the same rogue tag causing the problem), because new code somehow managed to wedge itself into the old code, and separate it. And that was working with Wordpress and HTML. When working with any kind of programming language, new code can break existing code. No programmer in his right mind can look at a piece of code and say "I can have this fixed in _ hours," and to think so just goes to remind the rest of us that you really have no idea what you're talking about. The problem with the update rose out of an incompatibility with less-than-current generation systems that popped up at the last second. The problem was likely looked at and the engineers said "we can probably have this done by tomorrow." Tomorrow came around, and no dice. The next day, probably some things fixed, but not to satisfaction. Developing software so it will work on the millions of hardware combinations is hard enough, but suddenly having a major portion of your compatibility go out the window is nothing short of the thing programmers have nightmares about in the dead of night. Talk about leaks in the brick wall, this is more akin to a hoard of Mongolians trying to knock your wall down. Bad updates get people angry, but when the game stops working people stop subscribing, and for the couple hundred whiners who are going to complain about the update being pushed back, it is far worth the money Jagex will spend fixing it, and saving those who would have quit with their game not working at all.

Someone get this man something with bacon on it, he deserves it. I would also like to see turning off trade remove the "trade" option from other people, much like "assist"
  5. I know. They should reserve classic only for people who can make quality posts. Guess OP's banned from classic.

    Never, because it's a nonissue.
  7. If it makes you feel any better, you can rest knowing they aren't down there for your personality or your charm. So I was walking down the street talking to a friend, and I said I'd almost had a conniption when I found out that the Pinkberry was out of my favorite flavor. This little kid asked me what a conniption was, so I called him a n00b fegit and told him to learn to read a dictionary. Then I laughed at how I owned him and started talking about him behind his back on a forum. Am I cool tough guy now?
  8. So many straw men in this thread, I should plant corn.
  9. Runescape will be almost 20 years old if it lasts ten more years. I don't think most of us will still be playing to care. But imagine how coveted bunny ears, scythes, and yoyos are going to be in ten years. I imagine most of the tradeable holiday items will be gone as well.
  10. Good thing your predictions are rarely ever anywhere near realistic.
  11. Gerhard called Free Realms "insipid" not "inspired," and criticized Sony for trying to appeal to everyone, but ultimately appealing to nobody. Big difference.
  12. From the interview:
  13. She doesn't appear too elderly. I'm just saying, there's visible cleavage drawn in and she's not wearing a bra.
  14. I'm surprised no one has made a thread on this yet. Eurogamer published an interview with Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard today, in which he stated: The full interview is here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/the-jagex-factor-interview Other comments of note: SAILINGSCAPE!

I've always wanted to get muted just to figure out of some random guy online is actually 16.
  16. I'm hoping for another bug similar to when changing your gender while wearing circus clothing made you invisible.
  17. Mommy why are these crybabies using straw man arguments? Because they realize there is no mature way to validate their rage at a week delay on a video game, honey. By the way, $90,000 would equate to approximately 18,000 accounts quitting over this, or all of Jagex's world servers exploding simultaneously many times over. I know Geoff Iddison holds a grudge, but I don't think he has access to the kind of explosives you'd need to cause damage on that level.
  18. Understood. I still think your OP obscured the point, which is why I kept myself from posting until you followed up. Quality discussion has to start somewhere, namely pulling Tip.It from the depths of "a bit better than the RSOF"
  19. Translation: Because of the idiots running PCs that can just about play Half Life, we can't put the update out.
  20. I think it's more to do with the manner in which the OP was written. It's a manner of difference in how players react to "I don't like this update and this is why" and "lol jagex sux and is ghey" where the OP leaned more towards the latter. He'd get more support and a higher quality of discussion if he'd just posted his latest post instead of the OP.
  21. Did you say it or did they and you got in trouble? Because if you said it to someone else, you had the punishment coming, Jagex doesn't find that funny at all.
  22. I clearly said disapoint, not mad. I honestly don't feel like delving deeper into metaphors I thought off the top of my head unless you're going to push me with a 'splain yourself' kind of attitude. Does this edit soothe thy prostate? They're a nice update that adds in extra flair for high levels. Not necessary, but then if Jagex just put in the necessities, there wouldn't be a lot of updates. I hope they keep the assist limit where it is, however, so these effigies don't get overpowered and turn into one guy sitting in Varrok assisting other players. Also: Never underestimate the benefits of a soft prostate.
  23. Jagex has already said that although they do not put out updates with the intention of breaking combat pures, they don't consider builds like no-defense pures to be valid, and will not support players who play "against the spirit of the game." (their words, not mine)
  24. The players who buy it are more to blame than the people who make it. If people didn't buy gold/characters, there would be no demand and thus no reason to supply. For that example, everyone wants to go after the cigarette companies because their products offer virtually no benefits, although if everyone in the new generation, knowing what we now know about cigarettes that we didn't just a few decades ago, then the cigarette industry would die out as the older generation died. Not the case. Considering the ratio of people looking for jobs in countries like China to jobs available, I don't blame the rise of gold farming on poor people looking for work. Quite frankly, sitting in an air conditioned room running a few bots sounds like a much better job than working in a poorly maintained Chinese factory making stupid [cabbage] for dumb middle class white kids, and from my experience talking with a few of these gold farming companies, they do treat their employees fairly well in comparison to their other choices of business. There are some shady businesses who got into gold farming, considering its illicit nature, but that is every industry imaginable. Hell, there's still bootleg beer in the United States, considering prohibition ended before most of our parents were born. I don't condone the gold farmers at all, and actively support removing them from games, but I foremost blame the players who are buying it and creating the demand.
  25. Its the first time they have said there wont be an update today, before I even wake up. "We need to make sure the clan we leaked information to has enough time to buy up certain resources before the update goes live. A lot of their members have doctor's appointments today."
