The Elder Race, The Mahjarrat
Immortality is an interesting concept- most assume it just means your a indestructable super-being who lives forever. Personally I think Immortality is more along the lines of living so long nothing will last as long as you, living forever, but still capable of dieing, or the ability to be killed/die but come back/ be ressurected. We've all done the quest with Hazeel, so we know they can come back for sure. And Zamorak used the staff of Armadyl to steal Zaros' power, we dont know if Zaros is dead, or even if all of his powers are gone, only that he isnt on geilnor anymore, and Zamorak now has the status of a god. And as for the Necrosyrtes/Dragonkin- All i know is, I want one. But dont want to have to run through a room full of them.

The Elder Race, The Mahjarrat
Wouldn't take Rs wiki to be cannon though tbh :-# well I was kinda close, the fairy who tells you is right beside the entrance to the minigame, and I knew there was Necro in the name he gave.. I'm out of the loop however on the discussion of Dragonkin/ Mahjarrat making dragon equipment. I'm sure dragon equipment seemed alot more powerful when worn by the Mahjarrat, thats probably why humans want it so bad: the cool kid wore it to war so now everyone needs to go to Scape-mart to get one too.

The Elder Race, The Mahjarrat
I thought Fenskrae (sp?) housed a race called the Necrofei or something like that (talk to the impling at the imp chaser minigame, he tells you about dragon items, where they come from and who had them. Anyway, the Majharrat are defenitely powerful beings whatever they are, strong mages, and appearantly immortal? I hope the story behind them expands with this new quest, I want something that will bring Zaros back to RS (I want Zaros trim rune!!! :o ) Nice topic!

The "Value" of Charms
well.. Technically you'd compensate the time it takes for someone who gets it themselves by waiting 2 times as long to get it. patience is rewarded? I dont know, the whole concept is hard to balance with the economy- too high and the economy flops because of the new money making juggernaut, too low and the skill becomes a joke.

The "Value" of Charms
I think really low prices are far more probable than really high prices. You say that you could get 99 summoning for 6 mil? but how long would you have to wait for people to sell their charms if they were only worth 20-250? I rather like that theory, alot more than 1-40k per charm. And anybody who feels like killing monsters in the chaos tunnels will bring in decent amounts of charms (not to mention you dont have to be great in combat or have a high slayer level to kill mostof the things down there) But, who knows? Personally I say we have enough "buyable" skills already. theres... prayer cooking mage fletching firemaking runecrafting construction herblore crafting smithing Do we really need summoning to be one too? oh wait, there's already a thread on that.. My vote for the prices is between 10gp - 4k each, depending on how the market values them.

The "Value" of Charms
There would probably be an equal amount of people just selling the charms, as there would be people just beginning to train the skill. More availability appeals to the lazy people (no offence) but then those people tend to be rich, so the people who just want pure profit will sell. Avansies drop charms correct? and if so, wouldnt that drive up the profit from training there crazily? While some people would take the fast route, the same amount would take the profit, it all depends on where the money is. Someone with 100k, full rune and a d long isnt going to be buying charms anytime soon, but he will sell them for the cozy profit they make, but likewise someone with 100mill isnt going to want to run off an waste his time, he'll probably buy a fair amount of his charms. @psvstef- thats exactly what I've been saying too. (and also, if it takes 450 hours to get 99 summoning: roughly 19 (nineteen) SOLID days of playing. Thats insane, I might be able to wrack up that playing time over about 2 years. guess thats why i donthave a 99  )

The "Value" of Charms
I purposely understated. of the number of members on, not all are killing things, there are usually at least 30,000 however who could be expected to be killing monsters at any given time. these players are my basis of average charms per hour, Some may be at dusties getting 30 crimsons/hour + what ever other charms they get, but then you factor in the players who are just killing random goblins/wizards or what have you that are only getting 0-10 charms per hour, the average of those players will be low, but there's alot more of them. Overall, its difficult to estimate, but if gold charms were 1k each, crimsons 14k each, you can guarantee that people wouldnt be leaving charms behind ever again.

The "Value" of Charms
Uhmm.. I'm sure you didnt mean to, but thanks for proving my point with the first line of your post. My point exactly is that supply will far outweigh the demand to train, especially at those insane prices. It may very well start high, but it will drop like no other: due to the fact that people will be trying to sell for the stupidly high prices, but there wont be enough buyers, thus forcing the sellers to go for the lowest to assure a "swift" sale, and forcing the price down. Supply>Demand=price drop. My case in point, there are far too many players killing things for the price to be stable and high. Killing Bork drops a decent amount of charms if I remember correctly, at the prices stated here, that one fight would guarantee you about 60-100k+ with such a good, easy source of money, that can come from almost ANY monster, why would players do anything but sell them to the obscenely rich? but so many people would do this, that as I've said a few times, market floods, price is driven down and out, thus crashing the charm market to a point where people may not want to sell them unless they're the select few who dont train summoning. My argument isnt flawed, and neither is yours. They both work in the way we present them, mine is a wholeistic view of the members economy, and every single possible source of charms. Your's shows the top production of charms. if anything the two theories work together to form a stable market somewhere in between what the charm farmers would produce vs what the average player produces. the average of those two medians is where your price will end up, and seeing as there are probably more people doing general killing, and would obviously pick up every charm if they were worth 1k+ after all they are stackable, the price would be lowered from the MAX profit you'd get from the "best" forms of charm farming. This is hypothetical analysis- you have to assume the best and worst case scenarios, and they do factor in with eachother. Runescape has a very large player base, and members isnt some closely guarded secret. the number of farmers of charms, does not, and probably will not come close to the amount of charms that appear to the average player throughout the day. lets say 1000 people are diehard charm farmers, bringing in 200 charms per hour each. meanwhile, the other 30,000 members who are playing bring in about 7 charms per hour each. that market would have 200,000 charms per hour from diehard farmers, and 210,000 from casual players who might kill a goblin, or are fighting the kbd, or what have you. the point is, neither of us is wrong, and trying to prove one is, is pointless in a completely hypothetical discussion. Granted a large amount of the charm economy would be from bursters/waterfiend people, but there would be at least an equal amount coming from people who arent spending that kind of money, thus bringing down the gold/charm average.

People not seeing the POINT of RC?
Well, you have a good point, most people do miss out on the fact that RC is easy money. But, I fail to see where that's mine or your problem. As far as I'm concerned my RC pure wants as few RCers in the market as possible, as that decreases MY rune crafting profits. If people are dumb and stroll on by, that's totally their own fault. I'd say dont worry about it, its not going to affect you if theres people who only want 50 RC, your high score wont be hurt, your profits wont fall, you wont have a new breed of RC noobs that will bother you... Honestly i dont see a problem with any of it.

The "Value" of Charms
Who ever said I was using solely my opinion? or that I wasnt using fact? You're comparing untradeable 0gp market value items to an idealistic parallel where they have monetary value and are tradeable. under those circumstances, bursting wouldnt be useless, because you are selling for more than your paying, BUT so is everyone else in the game. all of your examples focus on the mainstream ways, but take no consideration to the rest of the market and the average player. I use slayer as an example because its an efficient monster killing skill, that is very widely used. Yes you can make absurd amounts from bursting supposing the prices posted, but thats in compensation of the 5k +time you pay to get them, what about people who are paying 0-1000gp per charm? they flood the market, because the numer of people slaying/general monster killing will far outweigh the number brought in via bursting. I'm not being illogical, its just that I'm taking a wider view of things. In this case no one can be right or wrong, it's just that you cant have a focused approach to hypothesising price of hypothetical circumstances. you need to cover all the variables, and those variables say that Bork+slaying+chaos tunnels+ general monster killing will bring in more charms than the bursting/waterfiend theory compensates for. because of these external sources outside of your theory, it sort of collapses under its own focus. You worked everything out brilliantly, and I give you credit, its just that every single player who kills a monster has a chance to get a token (usually) and there would just be too many floating around to sustain such a high price. and if the price WASNT 14k, people wouldnt burst for red charms because it wouldnt be cost efficient, and they could simply buy them and save the time. Just saying.

The "Value" of Charms
Well, despite all of your tedious calculation and speculation, it all falls down to simple principles: What players want to pay What players will sell it for and what jagex deems "worthy" of a buying and selling price limit. In all honesty, if you feel like bursting for charms, thats your own fault. It's currently the fastest way to get charms but also the most costly, if charms became tradeable, expect people to stop bursting for them, as it's far too money intensive to "farm" charms in that manner. You can argue logically that the time+cost of getting the charm=the selling price. But, players arent going to take a morbidly obese price margin just because its faster. RWTers and the lucky few who have 3rd age/phats may indulge, but the average player would NEVER pay 10k+ for a single charm of any color. Charms come easy, and if they sold for 1-20k EACH(edit- just read a post saying blues at 30-40k. +1 to my point), as a stackable, easy to find item, the economy would crumble under the sheer amount of charms flowing through the market. Why go to GWD's when you can train slayer and pull stupid amounts of cash from charms alone, let alone the slayer drops that come with slayer monsters. so aside from the logical effort+gathering cost= price, we can assume the other logical assumption that a level 3 can get charms, and easily make a fortune simply killing random monsters. 1k per gold charm? Goblins would be so crowded... Rock lobsters and Waterfiends arent the "best" way of getting charms if your intent is to sell them. the best way to get charms is the cheapest way, not the fastest. I could do a slayer task of say... abberrant specters- average about 30-100 charms depending on how your standard deviation kicks in, and pull off millions while spending next to nothing. Or dagganoths- easy kills, cannon-able and slayer friendly= mass charms and at the prices suggested here, there would be no point in training summoning because the charms would be the new best money maker in the game. just my opinion- no math required.

What would RS be without merchants?
You know that one scene from Family Guy- the one which shows Ireland before alcohol? It would be alot like that. Without merchants and merchant guilds/clans the prices of many items would be so vastly different. in a downward direction. If merchanting never existed "free" trade would be more literal alot of the time. Without merchanting, the stupid amounts of economic influx wouldnt happen, and RWT's wouldnt have a job because people wouldnt be needing to buy their money because they wouldnt need 100+mil for any item. Without the forced inflation things would be cheap and the economy friendly, as close to eutopian as you can imagine for a video game : But alas- it is the best way to make a cheap buck, I know because I used to be a mass merchant back in the day.

August 26th 2008 - All Fired Up
xpx pretty much hit the nail on the head with what he said. As a full f2p player, you should not expect, and should even doubt that any update will ever take place in f2p again. You get 20% of the game (rough estimate based on #quests skills items minigames etc) for dididly squat, zilch, [cabbage] all so to speak. I'm currently f2p also, I hardly play because i have nothing to do, if i want to play again, I'll pay for another few months because I can. If i dont feel like paying but still want to play, I'll skill and slowly train some skills that are cheap and easy on f2p. I dont expect, or really want anything while I'm on f2p. Why? because f2p is just a huge advertisement for members. Jagex is good at marketing. they give "big" updates to f2p every once in a blue moon (using the Greenwich lunar calendar) to make it seem like they truly care about you, and to entice you pay up and get the rest of the cookies to go with your half full cup of milk. Seriously, I'm all for Jagex giving things to f2p, really I am, because it benifits members even more than it does f2p, as it creates a large player base, and always has member only features, giving higher revenue to the game, in turn making each update even better. But when people who solely play on free worlds and refuse to pay, complain that they get stiffed on updates? OMFG- grow up and look at the intricate pattern layed out before you: People Pay= guaranteed weekly updates and content. extra skills full access bla bla bla Dont Pay= Guaranteed play whenever you want, access to some fun stuff till about level 70. updates as stated above, using the lunar calendar. So stop whining and pay if you want updates, or shut up and be happy there even is a free version for you to use as a trial. on topic- Inticing to train up my firemaking for when I come back to members (next year most likely #-o )

God book pages, animal masks???? Whats happened!
Good luck  The books are untradeable, and you can never actually looose them, so really, they're worth whatever you paid. However, if you mean your PAGES that arent in a book, grats on moneys.

God book pages, animal masks???? Whats happened!
I got my zammy book for free  back around the release of the book, a friend bought about 5 sets of pages thinking the more you put in the higher the bonuses you got :wall: so he gave me a set for free because I was just so awesome back then (and not because I gave him 1 mil seed money to start merching like nuts) And also, I know the general idea behind junk trading- gratuitious amounts of overpriced but easy to get items to push the price up without much loss to you besides manufacturing cost of said junk. I've been gone from members so I'm out of the loop on what is actually used as junk now- could someone give a general idea on what they do to bump the trade price from 400k- 40+ mil? last i remember people were using unstrung addy c-bows.

Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
[hide=]Quote mountain Because douchebag some peoples computers can't handle the new graphics. What is that? 1996 computers can't handle graphics on a browser based game? Oh. Get a new computer, then. I'm poor as [cabbage], but my computer can handle it. My comp is 2 years old, and can't handle it... It isnt even if the computers cant handle it. I've heard alot of people say they like the lower graphics just because its a preferance, or because they've played it so long they just don't want to. Another thing is lag, and even though some computers handle it, it can still lag. (With the amount of things I normally have open, I'd lag on high detail but on low I'd be fine.. and I perfer it that way) [/hide] Computers arent all designed to do everything. There are computers designed specifically for gaming- generally they can do most other tasks pretty well too, but they cost a pretty penny if you want a good one, and dont come with the greatest operating systems/features to begin with. I personally couldnt play diablo until about 2 years ago. thats right, the original diablo was too crazy for my graphics card to comprehend. My computer is currently decked out with top of the line everything, but the only thing I've really had to change in the past 2 years, was the graphics card, everything else still utterly destroys 'normal' PC's in almost every function. But graphics and games werent what computers were initially designed for, those are all secondary purposes, same with burning cd's listening to music etc. So, if he wants to play on low detail, who are you to judge him? money isnt even an issue, and dragging that into discussion is a low blow. If you like good graphics by all means buy yourself a gaming computer.

Whats with the AGS?
Like with alot of games, the "bazooka" is always the most highly regarded. With 3 other comparable counterparts, all with identical stats, just vastly differing specials (sorta) its hard to understand why this, with the least spectacular special, is the most sought after. Granted in combination with other GS's/weapon specials, the AGS becomes a godsend, but it is replaceable. BGS- damage boost+ stat destroying ability >wins my vote for usefulness, I'd rank it next to SGS for all around usefulness SGS- normal hit + 50% heal+25% prayer restore- easily the most useful overall special of the bunch, health and prayer. C'mon. ZGS- 20 seconds of peace for you, and face smashing of your opponent? pretty great in 1v1 or for manyV1 where the many has the gs AGS- 25% extra damage. Crazy high hits, but you cant "one-hit" anyone with it. you could probably eat enough to survive two decent hits from the special. Good but not exactly great. Now thats just looking at effects, all are crazy powerful, but I'd say none are actually worth more than 15-30 mil. I have owned or used ALL of these weapons, and while my stats arent the greatest i can see how they would be later on. I know first hand how pleasant it is smashing stupidly high damage, but its not worth the insane cost. In terms of usefulness I'd say the ordering would be: SGS BGS AGS ZGS. *note* this is a generalization- in specific cases each can and will surpass any other.

Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
I think you should learn to control your mouth with all those rule 1 breaks. :shame: if you cared to look at the date, and the fact that there are 11 (eleven) rule 1 offences, on august the 24th, you'd notice what he's talkinga bout  Flodder, that blows, I can believe that many people freaked out over what I'm sure was nothing huge. Personally I just fill up my ignore list with anyone who displeases me in the slightest (I probably have about half of runescape on there, MoM is on there like 5 times and he still wont stop bugging me)

Noobs say the funniest things!
I have to agree. It's mean. Unfortunately thats human nature, and dont say you've never done anything like it, we all have. Honestly, I thought it was pretty hilarious, making up stories is fun when your bored, its a game, if people dont know how to play you dont have to help them out. I stopped playing in f2p because of all the aggrivation it caused me, didnt matter where i went or what chats I had off, people still managed to bother me. I even tried hiding out in a random event, stayed there for a week  but even from there I had people being stupid around me. There are times when someone asks a valid question, such as "where can I find the lesser demons on Karamja" to which I will answer "in the volcano" or show them myself, but when someone asks "how do u make ur moneys?" I dont feel that inclined to say anything past "by playing the game." If i feel like messing with the person, I think it's totally fair game, so dont judge on that front.

Skill capes being F2P. Give it a read =D
Well, honestly I dont think any 99's are really that impressive. All it shows is that you have more free time, and that you really like the game. If you personally value a 99 skill, thats great, but it doesnt benefit your life apart from a feeling of accomplishment in a goal, which is respectable in any walk of life. While I dont agree that you should be able to BUY the capes in f2p, I think you should get the bonuses in f2p. Why? because it would A: draw more money to RS. B: give bonuses to people who want to stay as f2p as possible. if they spend 6 dollars to get the cape(s) there should be bonuses, and the ability to equip and unequip it as you please. its not totally unreasonable to give the bonus to people who payed, the emote is nice, but not really worth it at all. just my two cents on the subject.

Pker attitude-Spreading like a disease?
Like a masquerade ball, Runescape, and even this forum community is merely a way for people to slap on a costume and prance around pretending that their Id has fully taken over. Pker's (thats where the spammy idiocracy began) Are the metaphorical gaming Id that is inside everyone. Peaceful and respectful skillers who are polite and courteous are the metaphorical super ego of gaming society. and people who succumb to both, are what I like to call "not-robots". You'd be hard pressed to find someone who didnt get a little flustered when they're about to loose 30mill in equipment, equivilant to many hours of tedium, to a total stranger who wont compensate, appologize or in any way console them for their loss. It's the people on the other end who are still jerks I dont understand, Personally when I used to PK, I used the opposite tactic, I would type out a very respectful question, that would take time for them to answer as a distraction. A polite distraction, but a distraction nonthe less. something like asking them their stats witha nice compliment, or just being nice in general throws people off guard these days. So when people are Chump-stains and mock you for owning them- simply be nice and compliment them non-sarcastically, it'll knock their socks off and gain you +10 respect. edit- for those of you unfamiliar with froidian theory- Id= the evil part of your personality Super ego= your 'good' or moral values. your ego is the combination of the two. this is just a simple version for understanding, not the deeper version that you may learn about in high school and psychology classes.

Guthixian Edicts
As in the real world, history is written by the winning side. Go through history, and as far back as you go, every war fought is against an evil, or bad or unwanted race/civilization/ruler. Not to bring controversy, but to make a point, Hitler's armies were 'the good guys' according to themselves, and the rest of the world was evil- to them- just because Zamorak promotes war and chaos doesnt mean his followers see that as evil deeds for the sake of being evil, thats how they live, and breath and what they know. Good and Evil are just a matter of perspective, an unbiased opinion says that Zamorak and Saradomin are both the same, with the same wants, but merely different views on how to get their specific wants. As for Zaros, all we know is that he was powerful, and was appearantly doing something many other gods weren't exactly cheery about- but we dont even know that for sure, because you cant trust history books written by anyone but zaros or his followers for accurate information of who he was and what he did. basically, in the end, the only thing we know is that Guthix is the only one who's 'good' in that he's taken precautions to prevent the world destroying itself, by making the threat of destroying the world if they mess things up.
-
Guthixian Edicts
An interesting topic to be sure; If the Vyrewatch has discovered one, or all of the group of edicts, it may tie into the new super quest coming 'soon'. And if they succeed in destroying the edicts, dont think that Saradomin will help anyone, He's a god strikingly similar to Zamorak, he'd take as much advantage of such an opening for claiming land/power as Zamorak or any other of the lesser gods. Or whatever godlike beings that are below Guthix that exist. God hierarchy is a difficult subject, the best I can figure is ?????- Elder Gods- Guthix/Zaros?- Bandos Saradomin Zamorak Armadyl whateverelsethereis Thats the best I can figure it, I always assume Zaros is more powerful than Zamorak/Saradomin tier gods, because even though Zamorak 'stole' his power, Zaros wasnt actually destroyed. But thats just because I like Zaros better than Zamorak/lower tier gods, they all seem rather trivial to me. Zamorak is Bad, but Zaros is Evil. Bad guy tactics, Evil doesnt take time to make small talk and gloat, they just chuckle over the corpses of their enemies.

Possible locations for the 1% safe area?
I'd assume any banks, random areas, and a good chunk of quest areas (place with the holy grail, fairy code areas, spirit world etc) as well, cities themselves might be 'safe' to a point, as in, like the old old old system where you had to accept a challenge, cities might be like the duel arena in that you have to accept a fight inside city limits, but in dungeons and on the roads and such, anything goes? edit- Revival of TeleBlock? probably been stated already... anyone think they will bring it back again?

The Runecrafting Guild - Could it be F2P!?
all I can say is- haha! you got owned, and you got owned, and you got totally pwned, and you got owned....etc. This looks fun, I'll try it out if i ever decide to work on RC.. and to whatshisface who's complaining that f2p gets to have fun too: no one's forcing you to pay for the game budster, you could decide to stop playing if this guild means that much to you. even though you cant even use it in any way... so gf, your arguments sucks, why complain when you yourself are barred from access? ps- gloating is fun, apologies if your offended. But some of you do deserve it.
