  1. All kids on RS look like that lol :o the dark truth reveiled! We've all been playing a sick, twisted game!
  2. It's the trapdoor to the place where all Andrew Gowers hopes and dreams died. It's the metaphor of his kindred spirit incarnated into his lifes greatest work, and his lifes destruction. Beautiful! =D> oh the allegory!
  3. For serious mate, you just lost, thrice over. You're an obsolete machine, who appearantly wont adapt, and like the dodo's are doomed to have a most hilarious downfall. (plays clip from "Ice Age"/kungfu dodo's) I applaud the [cabbage] kicking you just received from brianite3, among others. Extremely well done. *[hide=]It finally hit me that you've been reminding me of the Darlek this whole time =D>[/hide]
  4. The discussion isnt really 99 str 99 atk 70 def vs 85 rounded. I have to agree that once your defence is above average/barrows+ its more of a luxury than a requirement to train. And I also agree that the 99 str/attack would absolutly trump the extra 15 levels on the rounded players defence. The larger discussion is pures with 1 def, vs someone with rounded combat stats. prayer can equal, and in that case the rounded player relies on defence more than offence because they are outmatched. Pures who dont realize that not everyone else who pk's is a pure- and then further assumes that they are "noobs" who know nothing about the game or how to pk- are the problem. people are pking the way they NEED to. complain all you want that people wont play YOUR 1 defence game, but it wont make a bit of difference, because they HAVE defence, and thus DONT have the highly boosted str/attack that a pure would. protect prayers are almost needed as a balancing factor. It's been said before, that not everyone is the same. pures have hypothetical guns, and everyone else has some low grade body armor, the only balancing factor is that everyone else also has the chance to slap on a bullet proof vest when they please. This is, I suppose, human nature to hate difference- you dont comprehend that people arent acting out of spite for you, but out of their own mind's construct of what needs to be done, which is vastly different from what you need to do. I'm not sure how to make it much more clear. A triangle isnt a circle, and neither object will fully understand the other. Simplest metaphor I can make currently, hopefully you can comprehend the meaning (aimed at the trolling pure)
  5. I'll go there, because its a strong argument. Everyone seems focused on the fact that protect prayers drag out a fight, but dont complain about steel skin/the 20% you get from piety? Sofar, what I've read (every page) has people arguing that it "isnt true pking if you arent going on the full offensive 100% of the time to guarantee someone dies". well thats blatantly stupid, strategy>dieing  if I want to boost my offence, defence, and shave 30% of your damage off,by god i will. you can go ahead and use piety/smite, it wont do you much good in the end, considering my prayer will cancel out your added strength/attack and then some, AND I still have a fair boost from my other prayers. PKer's who whine and complain should do what is in human nature and adapt- people arent going to play by your game anymore, so dont expect them to, like I said before- ADJUST adapt, change, evolve, use any dirty tricks you have to to win. this isnt a bout of fisticups, this is player killing for money and glory. and dont pretend you give an ioda of your concience to the money your opponent spends on food/potions. YOU know you want them to waste it all, you KNOW you want them to die, so do what it takes to ensure they do! as for the summons, I was just pointing out that there is a viable option in theory to effectively replace smite (and metal armors dont matter- the bat attacks with MAGIC) as for the actual topic- yes, the days when everyone was afraid to loose their stuff and the wilderness was just turning into the land of douchebaggery and conceded omnisient [puncture]s
  6. If I can shave off 30-45% of my opponents damage, while boosting my own damage in 15% accuracy and power, by all means I'll take the more defensive fighting position. Smite, can be effectively duplicated with a level ~30 familiar (vampire bat? cant remember) which has the ability to drain prayer quite effectively, and more reliably than smite (which uses prayer, and depends on the randomness of the combat engine). as for the difference in damage between someone using smiety combo, I can live with that. A pure is a glass cannon, so they have no reason to boost their non-existant defences, they need damage to survive, which is why they are dangerous. Rounded players however, dont have that luxury- why should we be penalized for playing differently than a pure? pking is secondary on many accounts, as some of us enjoy the rest of the game too. A pure is level 80, his opponent is a rounded character of level 80. now if both of them have ~equal prayer levels, the pure would win hands down if both agreed to only use offensive prayers. BUT the rounded player would have the advantage of armor/defence to try and balance this, which probably wouldnt equate to much, seeing as at those levels, a pure would absolutely demolish a normal character in offence. solution? the non pure uses protect prayers to shave off the damage difference, equalizing the battle field, and in most cases taking the advantage. thats the only reason pures whine, because its not fair to THEM. you say its 'nooby to waste food' well suck it up princess, its a game, and appearantly not the cheery one where everyone bends over and lets you sodomize them with a scimitar. People will put up a fight, If i hit 5 less max damage than you, but trump you defensively, I'll take any means to boost my defence before worrying about my offence. that 5 extra damage can easily be duplicated on my end, while my extra defensive buffs will be paramount in stopping you, as 30% off your hits from my protect prayer will lower your damage to/below my own level, while the added 15% to my defence will help stave off the rest of your attacks. pures are the proverbial sprinters of pking, while everyone else takes their place at the marathon gates. we may not be as fast, but we will win, because we can afford the time to kill you. and dont even talk about "prayer noobs" running once their prayer runs out, I have a pure account, and other pures are no better. they wont sit back and say oh, looks like im gonna die, they run their [wagon] off in hopes of not loosing. and then they have the balls to pm you about how much you suck! sorry, thats not all pures, but in general the attitude is rampant among you.
  7. I made a pure once, heavy ranged/melee combo, but I kept my defence at about 10, it gave me an edge, while not boosting my combat level enough to matter. I also did a few quests on my pure (crazy i know) which allowed it to mine/make full iron armor, plus able to craft all leather armor i might need. It was a very inexpensive character to maintain, fully self sustaining, the only major money input was weaponry if i ever lost it. This was when pking was big, when the wilderness was still there. My pure did have prayer, enough to boost my melee effectively (range prayers werent out) And I was a good pker for my level. My only quiff about the whole thing, was that it wasnt much fun, all the other pures i fought, died pretty easily, or just ran away. I prefer a well rounded character, pures are fine and dandy, but they arent calculated very well. no defence is a bad idea, too much defence defeats their purpose. they need to up their defence to about 40, accessing enough cheap armor to make up for the increase in levels. As for the attitude of praying being nooby, and honor, and skill... i stand by the fact that people just arent willing to have patience and ust strategy to win, rather than just name calling when people dont play by your rules. its a game, and you cant force people to follow your directions, so make your own rules that trump anything anyone else will do. ie- pray, its there to use, it gives you the edge if you use it. defence also gives you an edge, just as strength or attack would. Now the pking troll of a pure who's been ravaging this topic with quite conceded comments ("oh, you dont know anything, so i wont explain, its too much for your simple minds to handle") is the reason that "pures" are labled as they are. It's you who and people like you who made pking such a distasteful travesty- it was made with good intent, but once the elitest community of pompous pures (yay alliteration) settled in, pking was lost forever, and the ditch between rs and the wilderness solidified the metaphorical separation of skills and pvp.
  8. skill in runescape! LMFAO! are you a comedian? because man, i think you should be a comedian! omg you're hilarious! har har har. no. there isnt skill in runescape. there are 'skills' in which you train. there are "techniques" such as diagonal running, or timing your food to prevent loosing a turn. There is no skill to pvp, apart from distracting your opponent in hopes of making them screw up. Personally, I trick them into talking, say something that will agrivate the headstrong pker into typing out full retorts, at which point I spec and kill them for being stupid. all the while i use prayer  because I am proud to be a smart person, who doesnt care that I'm just better than you. You are a class cannon my friend, and I'm an angsty teenager with stones. who will win? (**note I think angst is wrong, and im not actually an angsty teenager, merely a metaphor to sho the stupidity of the pker "honor" system of stupid stupidness. and yes i did just say that sentence, dont judge me, i say now that i'm tired rather than making the excuse later. Now THAT is honor. or at least internet honor.**) edit- just reread, lots of spelling mistakes... blarg
  9. by now? master of the universe. but seriously, I'm not totally sure, all i know is because of where I live in relation to those i know, I'd probably be a world class cyclist by now from travelling to keep the boredom at bay. I cant say i'd be doing much better in school- 90+ in every class, with much slackery and shinanigannery aswell. overall- I'd actually have to go with my first statement- Master of the Universe! edit- 100th post \
  10. It's free expression- in some cases. For myself, I like to change tandom between male and female, mainly to see how my armors/setups look from the different perspective, and to keep myself from becoming terribly bored or staring a muscular male character slaying equally muscular monsters.. Is it a crime to try and make the ogre pit a little more pretty? Some people are sicko's who try to exploit the female form (which is wrong, but girls do it themselves, and willingly, its human nature to seek advantages, and guys are really stupid, and girls have.. chests..) Personally, I find it funny how many people openly seek a female character to bond with- asking to be bf/gf, giving freebies WITHOUT BEING ASKED to try and gain favor. I've experience such cases while woodcutting some years ago- I recieved about 1.2 mill in gifts (white mystic robes, dragon skirt etc), the funny part was i had my public chat OFF. How's that for masculinity and the eagerness to earn "top dog" status? For me, its nothing more than a want for change, and the fact that MOST everything seems to look better on a female character... carrying out my fantasies of adrenaline infused bravado and heroic feats are better suited to me messing around in real life rather than stretching my provocative pixelated body for anti-social 11-13 year olds who long for intimacy.
  11. Holy crap! did anyone read the first post? AT ALL???? Why are you all complaining about falling prices and unfair gold gain etc, when this idea affects NONE OF THOSE! THE SHOP DOES NOT SELL GOLD! THE SHOP DOES NOT SELL ITEMS! THE SHOP IS ONLY FOR LOOKS! Again, for those of you who didnt READ THE FIRST POST the idea has nothing, NOTHING to do with BUYING GOLD, and NOTHING to do with buy items like a godsword or 3rd age. The shop would allow people to pay a little extra to help fund the game (which is only good for everyone who likes updates) and would let you look more menacing and cool. I doubt they'd sell many "gay" items, like fairy wings and such.. I dont see why everyone is so hostile to the idea, this is Jagex, and it is runescape, you dont have to worry about sunglasses and baggy pants, the way i picture it is optional armour animations and unique weapon/armour styles rather than the plain platebodies we have currently. Why is that so bad? why do you all seem to burn at the very idea? And once again- THE SHOP HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BUYING GOLD/ITEMS THAT ARE ALREADY IN GAME!!!!!!!
  12. Wow =D> If you actually bothered to READ THE FIRST POST. or alternatively not blurt out stupid things, and check one of his examples, which would require you to READ THE FIRST POST, you'd understand that the "cash shop" would not benifit anyone in any way other than their popularity. To be straight, and frank, and to the point in a non roundabout way: Cash shop=clothes which offer no stats. You go into the cash shop, buy any item, and it would be a piece of equipment, that; while offering no stats, makes you look cool. effectively, you would be buying a body kit for your character, much like how the clothes shop in varrok allows you to customize your base clothes, the 'cash' shop would allow you to buy optimal clothes, that mask what you're really wearing to make you look different, but dont offer any stats. the 'cash shop' would not sell gold, or resources, or anything that offers any benefit in gameplay. the only thing this would do is offer some customization for the players of runescape, which i dont think is a bad thing. One more time for the stupid people who dont understand, or didnt want to read all the way through! Cash shop, sells 'masks' for your equipment, they make you look like you're wearing some amazing armour/robes/weapon, but its an illusion that goes over whatever you actually have equipped. *possible abuse could be in PVP, as others couldnt see what you're using, but thats easily rectifiable*
  13. Your data set seems a little off. the comparison isnt 0-30 having equal chances, its 1-30 having equal chances. It may not seem like alot, but that extra percentile makes the difference, because hits of 0 dont affect anything, because you cant know if the hits are effected anyway. Besides that, I seem to notice I'm hit for 0's far more often than actually taking damage. If you're basing your calculations on a set of 0-30, thats why your numbers are incorrect. whether the effect happens on 0's or not doesnt matter, as each hit is independent of any other hit. Just because you have a 70% chance to work, doesnt mean a failed activation guarantees activation on the next hit received. EVERY hit has a 70% chance to be rudeced, whether than hit is 0 or not wont affect the average, because it doesnt decrease the chance that the next hit will be a succeful reduction. the proper assumption is that all LANDED hits (1-n; n being the highest possible value) have equal chance of occuring. your armour rating directly affects how many will land, therefore the chance of 0> than the chance of any hit from 1-n. exceptions include enemies who ignore prayer/armour. speaking of ignoring armour; does this shields affect work vs verac's set effect? if so, pvp just got shaken up.
  14. I remember getting bunny ears and my scythe. and I also remember when I missed the Phat drop, and bought 2 sets of Phats for about.. 10k. back then people were litterally JUMPING at the offer. I remember when R2H's were over 1 mil, and the big ol' change to "3d graphics" in Rs2. I've been around for most everything.. on several accounts if you cant guess by my name. Good times for sure.
  15. You're overcomplicating things largely. You cant prove that the likelyhood of being hit for a 30 is is any greater than being hit for 10, or 15 or 20. The fact is, the shield will perform its stated effect, in addition to giving already superb defences, and a prayer bonus. 25% off of a hit of 4, still saves you 1 hp. 25% off of 30, saves you 7.5 hp. Why complain when all the shield does is save you hp? and pretty reliably too. on those rare hits of 30+ you still have a 70% chance of a damage reduction. vs having rare hits of 30+ and just taking the 30+ no questions asked. [hide=]as for your requested probabilty question: P(Y^7)= 0.0824 adjusted 8.24% P(Y^10)= 0.0282 adjusted 2.82% the probablity that 3 yes' will appear given a 70% likelyhood is: P(Y^3)=0.343 34.3% so you have a 34.3% chance of getting 3 yes'. (you're question did state that the first 7 were already drawn, therefore the probability will start a new set for the remaining 3 chances.)[/hide]
  16. well then that only strengthens the argument for the new shields.. I highly doubt 10 extra defences will amount anywhere near the defensive power in the new shields. *note* dfs still reigns supreme as the ultimate versatility shield, and one of the only truly offensive shields in the game (mainly thanks to its fire breath function)
  17. Whoever said that the probability of damage reduction really only accounts for 7% of damage. well. Uhm. yes and no. You've correctly stated one possible case in a set of 10 data points. Flip a coin 3 times, if it lands on heads all 3 times, you win a million dollars. thats a 12.5% chance of getting a million dollars. each coin has a 50/50 chance of heads, therefore 1/2*1/2*1/2=1/8=12.5% the cases against you include a 7/8 chance of getting a tail. All you've done effectively is shown that if your luck sucks for some reason- which can happen, you may not get the average benifit of the shields effect. Conversely, you could be hit for 60, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60, 0, 0, 0. and each of those 60's manage to land when the damage redux happened aswell, thus saving you a grand total of: 105 damage. Now its hard to compare that to DFS, BUT, I'd assume that defence points, the extra 20 in some areas of the shields, doesnt account for as much as you think. 20 extra stab defence (dont know if its actually 20 in stab) probably doesnt make that big of a difference in dodging, the only reason people go for it, is because there's nothing with better visible bonuses. we dont know the formulas, so no one can say on either side how anything works in any way. All theories are null and void due to lack of credible information past educated guesses, hunches, and blatantly slanted comparisons. So yes, there is a chance that your shield will activate damage reduction on low hits, fact is, it still activated, saving you food. there is an equal chance that your dfs will have bad luck and you'll be hit for 60's with no chance of saving extra hp. So before you try to slant something, just remember than in probability, there are sets of cases, and with the numbers and coding involed in this game, good luck calculating the number of cases in which you will top out or be sold short. all in all, within the cases lies an average on which the calculation of the percentile reduction and effect activation is drawn, inversely. trying to say that a stroke of bad luck rewrites the average is like using a godsword for one hit to determine its average damage. gf mate.
  18. Hmm, lets suppose that added defence gives you a percentile chance to "block" a hit. lets further assume every 10 points is 1% "blocking". (which is a generous assumption) is an extra 2% chance to "block" (get a 0 splat) better than a 70% chance of what does hit being weakened, thus conserving food, and allowing you to attack longer. I'm not saying either is better than the other, but they're both situational. You could use either shield and be very happy with your results, because either way you're getting a great shield. thse shields of comparable power/usefulness, and trying to determine a clear winner is plainly stupid. You use whatever you want, its now an issue of flavor over clear winning stats. DFS will eventually win in versatility- as it can be used to kill ANY monster (that doesnt require a quest/slayer related shield/2handed weapon) but Elysian and Divine will be a new terror in GWD/PvP/ slayer of non dragons. the extra food conservation is invaluable, despite the fact that you can already get a cheap, low food set up, this just makes it even easier.
  19. There's a picture in the screenshot sticky of someone getting a holy elixer drop from this monster.
  20. And the first candidate for the idiot award goes to..... Fromfirst'2'last! Seriously, If you took the time to use that thing inside your head more commonly known as a brain you'd understand that 30% damage shaved off every attack, is alot better than +20 defence. I'm not entirely sure how armour ratings REALLY affect damage, but I'm pretty sure the higher your armour rating, the better chance you have to BLOCK, or avoid the hit, ie- a 0 splash. meanwhile, the divine shield boasts both above average defences, (even beating dfs in.. crush? not sure, but its +75, as well as a nice prayer boost!) And, a whopping 30% off of every hit that does manage to land. in pvp, you can now achieve an effective 70% resistance to ANY attack type, and what used to be 30's, are now shaved down to 20's. Kalphite queen just became another bug in my opinion, this shield is the best defence in the game. thats not to say dfs is useless, its easily comparable- especially: vs dragons, when using melee, or when you dont have any prayer.
  21. Occam's Razor- the theory that the simplest explanation is most likely the right one. From a programming standpoint, would it be even viable to code a running timer from the time you pick up the clue/look at the clue, to the time you complete the last part? That assumption means that each clue has a set course, pre-plotted in length and placement before you even pick it up. So for me, I'm just gonna say that its all based on a series of random rolls, which determine the next step of the clue, and reward when you get to it, I dont think Jagex is that intent on coding something terribly difficult for a side-quest-item-hunty thing. Thats my opinion, and I stand by it: they took the easiest possible route to create and code everything in the game, complicated coding leads to major headaches if anything ever goes wrong (which it does, alot) so they usually use the same randomization coding for everything from monster drops to clue scrolls and everything in between. edit-to be clear- how fast you do the clue has nothing to do with it.
  22. Same happened to me, I didnt get 2 points for every penguin i caught because i ended up having 9 points at one point. My appologies for the misinformation, I just assumed that each gave 2 after coldwar, as the KB guide says you get more points if he trusts you more (referring to the penguin guy).
  23. I'm not members so I cant try the updates, but they look and sound incredibly fun. People who are complaining are straight up squares, loosen up and go lay in some grass staring at clouds for a while guys. Gosh. 25k free exp, and a week to find all the penguins (It's technically easier than that because after coldwar you get 2 points per penquin, so a possible 20/week, which saves considerable time the next week!) Think about that for a minute, ToG might get you anywhere from 6-10k exp per week if your any good, 12k if your just amazing and get 200 tears per game ;) With this you get a bonus 25k, which is saving you a tonload of money in any skill. Free prayer/hp/summoning/smithing/herblore anyone? Jagex just gave you bargain mart for xp and your complaining about game continuity? a string of sausages is the arguable best weapon in the game, able to KILL DRAGONS MADE OF SOLID METAL! wheres your continuity now? The circus looks like a blast, but pretty hard, its nice that there's finally something to do with a level 99 other than wear a cape, even if it's only in 3 skills. The Meteors give me hope to get my mining up further, it looks like so much fun to hunt and mine them with a big group of people, and it gives some GREAT rewards. The beauty is that they're adding real "random" events, rather than something you cant avoid or choose to ignore, these give a fantastic bonus, but are COMPLETELY optional. those of you who enjoy your daily grindfest can just keep on, but for people who see a strange rock while yew cutting, grats you just got a free 1k exp for like 3 seconds of time. PS- To whomever spoke of immersion, and how communist penguins make it hard to picture yourself living in runescape... buddy, there's no toilets either, good luck.
  24. As I said in a previous post, Immortality is a very misunderstood topic, because it's not actually know what Immortality entails. Most have the idea that its living forever impervious to death in any form and just being plain awesome. However, many philosophers throughout the ages have considered Immortality, the idea of living forever, more a curse than a blessing, because immortals would no doubt go insane from the sheer extent of their existance. Others speculate different forms of Immortality exist- ranging from the aformentioned to obscure forms of immortality through ancient rites and reincarnation. In the end, we cant know how Jagex classifies immortality until they tell us their view on it. We know for a fact that Mahjarrat CAN be ressurected (Hazeel) and so we can check off immortality through ressurection/ancient rites. As for Zaros, The staff of armadyl DID "steal" some of his power to Zamorak, this info is given in game as well as posted here, as for Zaros dieing; There is nothing to give proof or validation to this, only the vague inclination due to his abscence. Personally I'd say Zaros is gonna make a return, I really hope he does, because it would add a great new plot and dynamic to the game, a quest where we actually loose would be really cool, rather than hero win. hero win. hero win. So lets all cross our fingers and hope that Zaros is brought back from wherever he is so that he can do whatever it is he does.
  25. wow  Nice pic's Latios! I wonder what's gonna happen with it? And thanks for the clarification- I knew my favorite god wouldnt be down and out \ (technically its a tie between Zaros and Guthix.. I wish they both had godswords)
