  1. I have Photoshop, but I barely use it since it doesn't work under Linux (it doesn't work with WINE, so don't suggest that). I use The GIMP in Linux. If you want Photoshop but don't have money you could get Photoshop Elements. It's a slightly less feature filled version of Photoshop for about $100.
  2. Yeah, Qemu is great. I used to use it to create a Virtual Drive for use with VMWare Player (the only free VMWare product). They have since released VMWare server as a free product and it makes drives for you, so I no longer need Qemu.
  3. I'm not sure if it is or not, but Adobe owns Macromedia, so either way it's Adobe.
  4. Does Mplayer work in Windows? If it does try that. Just google it.
  5. I've used spacemonger for a while now, and I love it.
  6. If I had $20,000 for a computer, I wouldn't build a computer. I probably make a cluster. Just get a few quad, dual-core opteron systems. I'd probably get 8Gb per core. I wouldn't use this setup for games because that would be retarted. The only other important thing is a good network. Definitely gigabit, or even 10 gbps. That reminds me of one of the stupidest pieces of hardware I've seen. A 10 Gbps PCI NIC. Lol, the PCI bus can't even support a Gigabit NIC at anywhere close to full speed, let alone a 10 Gbps. NIC.
  7. Even after a reformat you can recover stuff. You don't need special equipment either. I once had a harddrive pretty much die on me. There were multiple bad blocks, but the Maxtor's Maxblast utility fixed them. I couldn't even boot the drive though. I used a live CD and fixed all the superblocks on the drive and it fixed it. Basically all the blocks that told the computer there was stuff on the drive got erased. Which is basically what happens when you delete something. By forcing the computer to look for stuff on the drive it fixed it.
  8. Even aftear a zero fill you can still recover data. The Department of Defense requires all drives be overwritten to every sector at least 3 times. first with a 0, then a 1, then a random value. It's then checked to make sure nothing remains. For top secret information they start with 7 passes instead of 3.
  9. It could be software DX10. But the way MS programs things you'd have to have an extremely fast computer to get any decent performance out of it.
  10. Actually, you can. I don't feel like finding links right now, but I've seen multiple laptop chasis, and it's easy to by the rest and put it together. So, yes, you can buy your own. Runescape would run fine on there if you aren't trying to run something like Windows XP. If you really want you could try using Damn Small Linux or something to use much less resources. DSL uses only about 30 Mb of RAM (and that's storing the whole OS in RAM).
  11. Actually, DX10 isn't released yet (or finished). I tried the beta, and all I have to say is it looks way too much like MacOS
  12. I sort of use it. I have all the *nix boxes using it, but they fall back to IPv4 if Ipv6 isn't supported (like by Windows or my ISP).
  13. Try this: http://www.dslinux.org
  14. Yeah, it's cheaper to make your own cables. It's actually a lot cheaper for me, but maybe that's just because my friend has like 2,000 feet of cat5 cable. :D (Don't know why, but his uncle just gave it to him). It was cheaper for me to buy a crimping tool and plugs than to buy 1 15' cat5! So, yeah, make your own.
  15. If it came with XP installed, it should have come with a CD. If you don't have the CD and one of you're friends will let you borrow theirs you should be fine. Microsoft might also have them on their site.

  17. I don't know anyone that's gotten banned for this. A lot of my friends play at the library. Sometimes there will be 8 people playing on the same internet connection, but no one has ever gotten banned for doing that.

You could make it update the clock faster, but it requires a registry hack, so if you're not comforatable with editing your registry which could screw up your computer, don't try this. Your computer should be fine as long as you don't accidentally delete any important registry keys, but the windows registry isn't the best place to screw around. Go to start>run>and type "regedit" (no quotes) The registry editor should open. On the left of the registry editor click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SYSTEM> CurrentControlSet>Services>W32Time>TimeProviders>NtpClient There should be about 10 registry keys or so in the middle of your screen now. Find one named "SpecialPollInterval" (again no quotes) Right-click it and click "MODIFY" (you guessed it, no quotes  ) It should have two options under where it says "BASE." "Hexadecimal" and "Decimal" Click on "Decimal" if it's not already selected. Now type in any number you want, it will tell it to check for the correct time evey x amount of seconds. I have mine set at 1800, so it will check for the correct time every half-hour. Once you changed it to the number of seconds you like click ok and close the registry editor.
  19. I'm hoping you did this, but I'm just making sure. Did you install your heatsink/fan on your processor? Modern processors overheat extremely fast without a heatsink/fan. A modern processor can be permanately ruined in about 5 seconds (haven't actually tested this  ). I thought of the processor because you said taking it out fixed the problem. The problem really couldn't be caused by too many things, mainly incorrectly installed components or faulty components. Make sure everything is correctly installed also.
  20. Lol, that picture is awsome. You could melt a mobo for those who don't believe it. I don' remember where it is but there is a video somewhere online and shows processors without heatsinks/fans. A p3 melts pretty fast. And AMD actually catches fire in a few secs, and a p4 gets really hot. If a processor can catch on fire that fast your mobo could melt. Your mobo would have to be really hot and probably catch on fire for that too happen, but it could happen. Oh and on-topic don't ever go by clock speed when you're comparing Intel wih AMD. Intel uses 32 bit processors while AMD uses 64 bit processors. A 2 GhZ AMD will definately be faster than an Intel proc. Make sure you look at cache size, front side bus, if it has hyper-transport for AMD/Hyper-threading for Intel among other things.
  21. I like the idea. I can't really think of any other uses of it than drop parties either, but that's still a good use. You can put my name on it, if you make a petition.
  22. I do not believe any armor exists in real life that increases peoples ability to cast magical spells. I don't know of anyone that can cast magical spells at all. So the reality part of mage armor shouldn't apply here.
  23. I really like the idea. You can put me on the list.
  24. I really like the idea and think it's a cool spell, but I think that 50% is pretty high. It's pretty hard too hit 50% of the time under normal conditions so tone it down a little and I think it'd work.
