  1. Evolution describes the steps in the change of an organism over a long period of time. Mutation in DNA -> Change in organism -> More adapted to environment -> etc. I don't think evolution has anything to do with ID at all. :?
  2. Nothing mentions the absolute separation of church and state, though I think the two should be seperate. No, the constitution does not say this. Nor does the Bill of Rights. That's why it's so controversial. I totally agree. Nature is wonderful. :)
  3. Your definition is a bit off.. Intelligent design says that the world is so complex that there must have been a higher power behind all the change. I disagree with this with this-- bacterial genes have a special ability to be "on" or "off". For example, (I don't remember the exact names), ecoli has a gene that codes for a protein that breaks down one of the sugars in apples. This gene is activated by having the apple sugar in its environment (due to the sugar reacting to an enzyme, allowing the gene to be "on"). If the sugar is not present, the enzyme will attach to the gene, turn it "off". (I'd be more specific if I remember which enzyme and sugar I was talking about) This on/off system is to conserve energy; why bother wasting resources making unnecessary proteins? :P I think this is the case for the nylonase gene. It was there in the DNA code, but never activated until the bacteria was placed near nylon. (I'd probably know much more in a few years, after I take my courses in fermentation/micro biotechnology) I do, however, side with evolution and hate the idea of teaching Intelligent Design in schools. It contridicts science: if you cannot prove something, it cannot be true. Unless someone has some scientific proof which proves that a supreme power helped evolution along, it should not be taught.
  4. Suing companies for making harmful products is a tricky subject. What makes a product "dangerous"? If smoking a cigarette is a hazard that should be illegal, how come cars aren't illegal? They produce chemicals which break down the Ozone layer. And remember, cars can hit people. I do think that people who have been smoking for 20 years or eating McDonalds for three meals a day bring the effects upon themselves. There is a ton of information out there about the dangers of certain products, but yet people keep using them. :? The best way to solve this problem is to raise awareness on the issue. Youth smoking rates are at an all time low, I've heard. I guess all those anti smoking campaigns are working, eh? I also support raising taxes on cigarettes.
  5. I'd like to play SSBM online. :D
  6. I'm glad the vatican is finally thinking more "modern".
  7. How lame. This actually discourages me from buying CDs, seeing that I can't rip them and listen to them on my computer/mp3 player.
  8. Zip

weezcake replied to wioneo's topic in Tech and Computers
I've never even heard of 7-Zip, but I'm sure it does exactly the same thing. It's just that WinZip and WinRAR are more known.
  9. Zip

WinRAR can be used to open .zip and .rar files. It has a 30 day trial period, but you can still use it after it "expires". :P

It's very good for keeping in touch with your old middle school friends, and high school friends who went to a different college. And of course, friends that live on the other side of campus, who you can't hang out with everyday. Besides, little teenyboppers can't get into facebook. They only accept certain college emails in registration
