  1. I vote for the HD 3850, it's an excellent card and will blow anything in that price range away. It's a lot faster than the 8600GT(s) cards. It also supports DX 10.1 which none of the other cards in this price range will support.
  2. Have you used a 64bit OS? There is nothing wrong with it. Games that are coded for 64bit actually run faster (crysis) and there is no speed decrease if you use 32bit apps. The 64bit driver issue is not a problem anymore because even new piece of hardware has drivers for it.
  3. Even if it says you don't need a driver, that thing is usually wrong. Go to the ATI website listed above and download the latest one.
  4. So you changed it andit still happens? That sounds like a graphics card problem. I would first try updating you graphics drivers. Then if that doesn't work your can try using a different graphics card and see if that fixes the problem.
  5. Errdoth, those are not way full load temps unless you have water or phase change cooling system. What you need to do is run your computer under full load. Plus you have a quad core and Crysis does not use 4 core fully, so it will not simulate full load. For full load download the program Prime95 and run the progrm on each core. Then after 15 minutes runnig 4 instances then see what Speedfan says. For your system temp which is your northbridge should be under 55c. For the cpu anything under 65c is acceptable. The idle temp (what you posted) shows pretty much nothing.
  6. Yes, that was the exact link I was going to post, but I'm lazy :P . Not always, sometimes if it's just a few bad blocks in the operating system space then it may lock up. Without a blue screen this would be the last bet over a power supply or overheating.
  7. I would have stayed away from the Creative cards. The reason being is that their drivers absolutely suck. You better have Vista or they are even worse (yes XP has worse drivers than Vista). One of the major issues with my X-fi card (I have the xtreame music) is that it will just cut out and I need to reset the card in the computer (it's says it can't find my sound card if I don't). It is a known driver issue that has not been fixed (it's on the creative forums a lot). There have been a lot of other little quirks too. I have been going back and forth with my onboard for the past year. I'm currently using my Realtek because it's reliable and I don't have to put up with the **** of Creative. My problems happen on XP and Vista.
  8. It sounds like a faulty power supply, overheating or bad ram. Download the program Speedfan. Run it, and post a screenshot of the it running. This will show you the temperatures of the computer and your power supply voltages. Try to take the screenshot after your computer has been on for a while or doing something computer intensive.
  9. Just don't do the above with a laser printer, or you will be sorry.
  10. Awesome laptop Nadril. It has an hd-dvd drive too. The only thing is if he wants to upgrade his memory most of the time laptops with 1GB is that it's 2x 512MB sticks so he will have to replace all of the memory.
  11. Currently DDR3 ram shows no real performance benefits. It is definitely not worth the price premium over DDR2 at this time.
  12. It may not be a problem on your end. Since there is a mass of people that got the 360 for Christmas and they all are trying to make live accounts, the server may be getting overloaded. This happened when Halo3 was released also. My suggestion is to wait a day and try again.
  13. You cant just have your firewall block the keylogger. That it putting a band aid around the problem, you need to remove it. Settings your internet security to high is not going to help much and it will just annoy you when it blocks useful stuff. Download Ad-aware and Spybot, up date the definitions and scan with them both. Then update your antivirus software with the latest definitions and scan with that.
  14. I don't believe so, well not yet. Apple is releasing an SDK or developers kit sometime in 2008 so that non Apple people can develop and distribute Ipod apps.
  15. You can add programs to the iphone but you need to hack it. You may not be able to hack it if your firmware version is too new, which it probably is if you just got it. You may be able to downgrade with the program called jailbreak but you need to look into that.
  16. We need more information. What games will you be playing on this? Whats your budget?
  17. The thing with people saying that Weed screwed their friend up, or family member up is crazy. There must be more to the story. There's a reason why it's called "the gateway drug". After people have tried pot, they might want to try lacing it, or try harder drugs, then you will be messed up.
  18. I would also suggest Ubuntu, but since your system specs are low, Xubuntu would be better suited for you.

Take your Mac spreading elsewhere. You already know this is going to end in a flame war with the Mac fans quoting the commercials over and over. Oh and with XP losing your internet connection, that would be your modem/router or your ISP's fault not the operating system.
  20. You need to get the cable box from your cable provider. Make sure it's a high def cable box. Then hook it up to your TV with HDMI.
  21. Hey thanks, I'm probably gonna go with the 8800GTS Believe it or not, the 8800GT is faster than the GTS. My suggestion is to go with the 8800GT because it's faster and it uses DirectX 10.1 instaid of the older 10.0 than the GTS uses. It also uses PCI-E 2.0 so it "may" be faster on a pci-e 2.0 motherboard (backwards compatible with normal pci-e).
  22. COD1 and COD3 were made by TREYARCH, and COD 2 and 4 were made by Infinity Ward. The consensus is that IW is a far better developer then TREYARCH, which is unfortunate because trey is developing cod5, and we're going to the pacific theater. Looks like that ends my short tour with the COD series :|. Oh well Vegas 2 is coming out soon! COD1 was made by Infantry Ward. The deal that was made that IW would make even and Treyarch would make odd titles was made after COD1 was released. COD UO (expansion pack for COD1) was made by Grey Matter which is now owned by Treyarch.
  23. It could be a number of things, it could be overheating, bad power supply, or faulty ram. People on this forum usually jump on a bandwagon and when somebody says power supply, a lot more say it. The power supply may be the problem, but don't rule out other possibilities. Download the program speed fan ( here ). After a little while when your using your computer, post a screenshot of the program running. This will tell you the voltages of your power supply and what temperatures your computer is running at.
  24. To do this yor probably going to screw up your linux install to get Vista to boot. You probably will need to re-install Linux afterwards and install a new bootloader. Boot from the Vista cd and go to the command prompt option under repair. From there you need to run the command "bootrec" (without quotes). bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot Run those 2 commands and you should be good to go with the Vista booting. After that, make sure Vista boots, then install a new boot loader. Hope that helps.
