  1. Do you think movies are art? They contain literature, music and visuals.
  2. Depends on what kind of situation you are in. At a wedding reception for example general wedding dancing songs go from "man this is so generic to play at a wedding" when sober to "this is the best song ever" when drunk. When the main purpose of a party is to drink then the aforementioned Pogues are great. When just hanging out with some old friends the best songs are the ones that have nostalgic value, ones that you were into back in high-school that you haven't heard in a while. EDIT: Looking at songs that are kind of focused on drinking it turns out they are all Irish. The Dubliners and The Pogues did a song together called The Irish Rover which for some reason I really like to start drinking, even though it's about a ship rather than drinking. After you are already wasted The Dropkick Murphy's - Kiss Me I'm s***faced is great.
  3. Yep, I just watched it about a week ago. Wrote a little review in the what movies you last saw topic. While I liked it, I don't see myself watching it over and over like Aronofsky's other movies. Of the two Oscar nominations I don't know what kind of chance it has (or should have) because I haven't watched enough of the other movies to compare. Micky Rourke was great and Marisa Tomei was good so it shouldn't be surprising if they win.
  4. Well it's not Babylon 5 but there might have been a cartoon made of it. Anyhow it sounds vaguely similar to it, enough to the point where I thought I might mention it and see if it rang any bells.

http://www.scifi.com/rewind/?sid=32850 This might be region blocked too, not sure.
  6. Like Carlo said, it's an action movie and is trying to do that and nothing else, and it succeeds. With the exception of the main girl being miscast I would say it's a great movie. I've liked all of Luc Besson's movies so far though, so it is kind of a given that I would like it.
  7. For Charlie, Desmond was merely prolonging his death, not saving him. Daniel was talking about events in the past, since Sawyer was trying to talk to Desmond before they crashed on the island. But that doesn't explain Locke getting shot, though. I already explained the Locke thing . Locke getting shot always happened. A few years before the plane crashes Ethan comes upon a time traveling John Locke who tells him that he was appointed the leader by Ben. Then as Ethan is about to shoot John disappears out of thin air. Then when after the plane crashes The Others, with that memory of the name John Locke that Ethan told them about, think that John Locke will save them since Ben eventually appoints him their leader. This also causes resentment from Ben, who at that time doesn't want to stop being the leader.
  8. I finally got to see some Oscar contenders: The Wrestler - I knew two things going into this movie, it was directed by Darren Aronofsky and it was about a wrestler (I gathered that from the title ;) ). Seeing as how I loved everything else DA has directed I was pretty excited to see this. It was good of course, the story just didn't interest me. Don't see myself watching this over and over like Aronofsky's other movies. Slumdog Millionaire - While the title explains exactly what the movie was about, I didn't get it until after the movie started. So going into this one I knew only one thing about it, Danny Boyle directing. I've really liked most of his other stuff so I was looking forward to this one too, and it didn't disappoint. I liked everything about this movie. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Saw the previews for this but didn't really look for it until I found out David Fincher was directing. It was pretty good, long but this first time through it kept me entertained the whole time. Don't know if it would a second time though.
  9. That part did happen, and Ethan most likely went back to the Other's camp to say something along the lines of "I shot a guy in the leg, he knew who he was, said his name was John Locke and was our leader appointed by Ben, then he disappeared". Knowing the nature of what can happen on the Island they could figure out pretty easily that he was from the future, and that's why when he first came to them everyone was expecting great things from him. I'm not a fan of time travel, it usually causes way too many plot holes. However Faraday's explanation of "you can't change the stream, just jump to different points" makes sense, and I was really, really happy about that. Of course that was ruined when for some reason Desmond isn't affected by the same rules as us. So we'll see how well this time travel stuff works out.

They dismissed Baltar's test because he said negative for some and they did turn out to be cylons, so they all kind of forgot about it. I also thought the Saul/Adama thing was a little lame, and it's odd because a lot of people thought it was great. The Dee part was awesome and out of no where, but finding out about Ellen was spoiled for me before I saw the episode. Overall I thought that this episode was pretty good, mostly just because it started up again after so long.
  11. Wow, at least they managed to keep the season 3 ending under wraps until there were only 2 episodes left. You sure it's not a foiler? I'm not sure, I have been avoiding a lot lately and haven't heard any more about it.
  12. No TV signal means that I have to acquire it via Internet, which means I won't be able to watch it until Thursdays. EDIT: Just wanted to request from everyone to use spoiler tags when talking about future episodes, of course the most recent episodes should be able to be discussed without tags and those of us who watch it later will just have to ignore the topic until we are caught up. Mentioned the future episodes being put in spoiler tags because the ending for this season has already been leaked, and while some like getting every bit of info the rest of us like to not get things spoiled ;) .

@Adrenal: Probably should hide some of that in spoiler warnings for the people who haven't read the novel yet. But for what I expect they will change the ending into: [hide=]I'm guessing they are going to make Dr. Manhattan into the bad guy somehow.[/hide]

Well the only comparison between them is that they are usually the top two on people's lists of favourite graphic novels. There's good reason for that, they are both masterpieces. Sandman is roughly five times as long though, it takes a little longer to get into. The entirety of Watchmen is great whereas Sandman has some down parts. But there are parts of Sandman that are just epic. [hide=Watchmen graphic novel spoilers]They changed the ending of the movie by not having the huge squid monster in it. I guess they thought it was too weird for and average audience, and that is true. I think they explained how they had it ending but I didn't want to read that because of spoilers. Since there is no squid monster, a lot of the story doesn't fit. For example Rorschach was trying to figure out why artists and scientist kept disappearing, and that was because Ozymandias was bringing them to that island to work on the squid. He's the "villain" behind everything, and when he teleports the squid into New York they basically say they "couldn't stop him from saving the world" because it draws the two super powers at the time together (USA and USSR). But since none of that is happening I have no idea what the end of the movie is going to be.[/hide]

The first time I read Watchmen I thought it was the best comic book story I had read. Then I read Sandman, and that became my favourite. I just recently re-read Watchmen (got the Absolute edition which is awesome) and it became my favourite again. Still have to do a second read through of Sandman to decide which one stands multiple viewings better. The movie looks awesome, and while I am disappointed they changed the end I understand that movies and graphic novels are two different media and one-to-one adaptations won't take full advantage of the medium they are re-done in.
  16. Yes! I didn't expect anyone to get it :D .
  17. I always hated when the ball got stuck. One game I was on my third time through the game (I think there are 12 levels? So I was on about level 26-27) with 6 extra balls and it got stuck.
  18. Nope, so here's another hint: The name of the game is the name of the series.
  19. Nope, came out a while before that also. Hints: PC only, FPS, based on a fantasy fiction book series.
  20. This game is quite a bit older than that, came out about 10 years ago.

VATS is completely optional, but useful. you really should read up on something before you make a comment about something that is completely different that what you are thinking. there is not one point in the game where you actually have to use VATS Except you DO have to use VATS. I played the game for a week and the regular combat is absolutely crippled besides the melee combat, which actually feels a little better than Oblivion's. VATS could stay in the game, I just wish they didn't make it feel like the game somehow resents you for not using it. Though I have to say, splitting a ghoul's head in half at long range never gets old \ I played the game without VATS my first run through (vanilla). It felt like cheating it makes the game so easy. I use it on my second run through (with mods) in order to conserve ammo which is extremely scarce.
  22. I also spent just a little time playing that game ;) .
  23. Playboy: The Mansion?
  24. indy500fan replied to Necromagus's topic in Off-Topic
There are mods to make the game a FPS with no chance to hit involved. There is still weapon spread though, I think. VATS basically makes the game a cake walk, you only take 10% of the damage that you would get outside of VATS. There are mods to modify that to varying degrees also (25%, 50%, 100% ect...)
  25. Is that one of those things you can play in Excel?
