  1. Nah because when people search if they set it to just display the topic titles then all they see is "thanks, fixed" which is kinda useless.
  2. Could also use it to restrict your kiddie's ingternet access zonda ;)
  3. BEFORE you delete the entires phil mentioned, move Hijackthis to its own folder (Eg: C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\Hijackthis[Caution: ExecutableFile])
  4. Well then it's a problem with the proxy that you use. Why do you use a proxy if your internet apparently works fine without it? Try contacting the proxy owner and asking them to remove the block?
  5. Tools -> Internet options. Under "Temporary Internet Files" click "Delete cookies" and "Delete Files." Then go to the "Security" tab and set it to medium. Go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and download any avaliable updates. Close IE and then go back to the site in question. What firewall do you have? Check its settings to see if it has any cookie related settings. If it still doesn't work, just try using Firefox- this will help to tell us if the problem is related to your browser specifically, or to your whole computer (which could mean your OS, Firewall or ISP.)
  6. Ad-Aware is a legit program... unless you download it from a wierd site that's hidden something in the exe file.
  7. Scan with Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D. Then post a Hijackthis log (google for links.)
  8. Do you really need a printer and camera with that computer? :-?
  9. Are you referring to this thread? And are you referring to this program? What virus scanner were you using? Can you remember the exact location and name of the trojans? I've had a look around but can't seem to find anything. I'm sure there'd be plenty of info since Firefox is supposed to be so secure and all. If you are referring to the program I mentioned above, well I guess you should've followed the advice of Hannibal and I in that thread. Please post a hijackthis log to ensure you've not got anything else malicious on your pc.
  10. Seeing as they're your ISP then they should supply some tech support. I suggest you get on the phone to them and jump up and down a bit. Chances are they'll put you on hold for a while, so if you can get a phone with a speakerphone and leave it on and read a book or watch tv or something.
  11. Why does using http pipelining make you arrogant? It doesn't use any extra bandwidth, it just compresses the time taken to use that bandwidth. It'll make a considerable difference on high latency connections (where the ping is extremely slow but the bandwidth is high.)
  12. "Connection killed" is not a default message. I suspect it's your firewall or a restriction program from your parents. What firewall do you use? Do you know if your folks have any monitoring/filtering software installed?
  13. Well... it needs to be updated to service pack 2, and probably a bunch of other windows updates which are extremely important. It doesn't have a firewall but that's probably not much of a problem since there'll be a hardware firewall installed for the whole system. It's odd that there's barely any system processes, I don't know why that is :-? But as far as I can tell there's no keyloggers or anything on there at the time you made the log, but of course someone could just slip in a floppy disk and copy some files over and start logging - that's why public computers are very dangerous.
  14. Rightio, is msn your ISP, or do you just use MSN messenger to chat to people? If you use them as your ISP then it mightn't be such a great idea to uninstall, since if it doesn't work then you can't talk to anyone for help (except rining up the people at msn.) If you just use messenger for chatting then certainly, uninstall. There's two possible explinations I can think of here. Either you've been infected by some sort of virus that's intent on filling up your harddrive or there's a bug in the msn program that you use that's constantly creating temporary files. Please post a new hijackthis log, If we can't find anything in that then you might consider contacting the msn people :-? SHIPPOU: Please, shut up! SP2 contains vital security fixes and patches. It may have crashed your pc because some system files were corrupt or you were using a pirated version or something else, but it's worked just fine on 99.9% of the other hundreds of millions of windows pc's it's been installed on.
  15. Setting network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to anything over 8 is meaningless because it's limited to 8 ;) Please read this threadfor some real information.
  16. What AV does the computer have? I can't imagine it would be very up to date if it can't detect the W32.Navidad worm :-? As you can see in the hijackthis log, C:\WINNT\WinTask[Caution: ExecutableFile] is running, and this is related to the worm. I suggest you attempt to remove it using Housecall, or if that doesn't get it, use Symantec's removal tool (removes both W32.Navidad and the W32.Navidad.16896 variant.) Once you've done that, post another hijackthis log.
  17. Vape

    HJT Log

Yeah apply the same thing to that, it's just automatically renaming itself to attempt to avoid detection.
  18. Never knew about that :)
  19. Vape

    LOCK

Erm yeah, emails like this that don't link to an official news article or press release are boring meaningless junk.
  20. Download Hijackthis and post a log here. It's only a very small download. Google for the link. I suspect a virus infection.
  21. Well if it's not to protect your real disc from scratching, then why would you want to back it up anyway? As I said, you need to download dodgy programs for cracking the disc checking thing, and half of them will contain malware
  22. Because you posted on tech and comps ;) All the flamers are burning up general and offtopic. It's always good to be able to help someone out. If you have any other questions about BBCode, visit the BBCode FAQ :)
