  5. A browser hijacker changes your home page, and continues to revert it back if you attempt to change it, and/or changes the default search when you type things into the address bar. eg. typing "hello" in the address bar should bring up a msn search for hello.
  6. Starting your pc in safe mode means that it only starts the vital system processes, so that any malware (usually) doesn't get started up. This makes it easier to remove, as some malware stops you from deleting it when in regular windows mode. However, the hijackthis log which you present to us should be from running hijackthis in normal windows, as running it in safe mode would of course tell us very little :)
  7. Tip.it seem to havethis one working pretty well. Only $25.
  8. Sorry to hear about that mate :P I aint nearly geeky enough to figure out what any of the gibberish means, but what happens when you try playing in a different browser? (Firefox, Opera)
  9. That's perfectly legal, but google says somewhere on their site that "activities specifically designed to raise your google ranking will be penalised" or something similar. I wouldn't be surprised if they were clever enough to get their robot to check the colour of the text, and the colour of the background. Also it probably checks for excessively small linked images, transparent images etc. etc. etc. Probably still a good idea to include them - lots of people still use other search engines that do use meta tags ;) It's only a few bytes of bandwidth.

  11. I try to remember to click the regular and google ones every 24 hours or so, flash ones are blocked though.
  12. Here's an early RS world map ;)
  13. Discuss it with your dad? Why doesn't he want you to play it?
  14. The multiple versions of Firefox bug is due to be fixed in 1.0.3 I believe :)
  15. Post a hijackthis log. If you can't get on IE, then I don't suppose you can download the latest windowsupdates, but does win 98 have an in-built feature for that?
  16. Yup, microsoft being self-centred again.I would hardly call it a self-centred act. The other browsers choose not to support the protocols, Microsoft doesn't force them to exclude them.I withdraw my statement because microsoft may update their OS however they want. However, other browsers should not be expected to incorporate activex. It's specifically owned by microsoft, and microsoft does not own the web.
  17. Where did you hear they were fixing it? Not that it really matters to me... the sound on RS is lame  Bugzilla is the system whereby the Mozilla community reports, organises and fixes bugs.
  18. What scanners are you using? More than likely an overheating problem i think - does the back of your pc get really hot?
  19. Yup, microsoft being self-centred again.
  20. Go to http://www.java.com and install the latest version. You might try also downloading Firefox and installing the latest version of java in that too.
  21. Anyway, go to http://www.java.com and see what it says. It should either say "You have the latest version" or "Click here to download the latest version" or something similar.
  22. Hmm windows 98 :-? I'm not real sure if this advice will work, i'm going on XP here. In IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab and scroll down to "Java." What does it say under there?
  23. hmm :-? What OS, browser and java version are you using?
  24. This is Jagex's fault - they're working on fixing it at the moment.
