I have a question to all of you who already have a fire cape and who think that this update is good as it'll prevent the 'noobs' from getting one: Would you be willing to redo the fight caves as they are now?

The idea of riding around Runescape on a broom seemed kinda' neat to me. I'm rather disappointed with the results. -
Should all NPC's require a moderate slayer level? *Revised*
Sly_Wizard replied to Sly_Wizard's topic in General Discussion
No offense to you, but you sound like one of those level 70's wh believes they have the right to attack what they want, when they want it. Well, newssflash to you buddy, it's not a right to be able to kill a high level NPC; It's a privilege. You want to go attack that big, bad 276? Then you should need some decent levels first. Simply because you paid to log onto a member server doesn't mean that you've been granted the right to kill whatever you want to. Anyway, you still never answer my question; Find me one game which allows a low level to attack a monster significantly stronger than him/her for hours on end without the slightest risk. Simple! I trained and they didn't. Cal that elitist if you want, but it's the bottom line. -

Should all NPC's require a moderate slayer level? *Revised*
Sly_Wizard replied to Sly_Wizard's topic in General Discussion
So what if someone is attacking a monster? Well, Peter, can you name me any game in which a low level can attack a high level NPC for hours on end without the risk of dying, therefore preventing anyone else from killing it? Well, can you? ...No? I didn't think so. Imagine that. Call me selfish or snobbish or whatever-- I don't care. I shouldn't have to wait 10 to 20 minutes for someone to kill 1 NPC because their levels are too low to inflict any real damage to it. Surely you can agree that if someone takes longer than 3 minutes to kill 1 NPC that they are out of their league. Therefore, what's the problem with making sure that these people can't take away from the people who've actually earned the levels to be there? -

The fact of the matter is if you can't kill a single NPC in a non-combat area in under 3 minutes (Which is more than enough time for anyone of a reasonable level) then you shouldn't be trying to kill it at all. -

Dunno'. Just didn't seem like a good idea to let the whole world know who it was. -

How is this a 'weak' rant? You train to become stronger and to be able to do more. I wouldn't mind lower levels being able to attack a monster much stronger than their own selves if there was some sort of risk associated with it. However, there isn't (In 99% of cases) and they can attack an NPC for an indefinite amount of time thus preventing anyone else from doing so. Therefore, they either need to be prevented from trying to engage in combat with the NPC in the first place or there needs to be a risk factor associated with that action. Right now, I could create a new account, have a friend give me a bronze halberd and proceed to attack black dragons to my heart's content. Fair? Not at all. It's an oversight which should be corrected one way or another. -
What I'm tired of seeing is this: Yes. That's a level 69. Casting air strike. Against a black dragon. Preventing anyone else from killing it. Plainly put, BS like this shouldn't ever happen. The problem with Runescape is that just about anyone can grab a hally or arrows or runes and proceed to (Attempt would be the more operative word) kill any NPC they desire. This, in effect, gives lower levels the illusion that they're much stronger than they really are. Furthermore, when a place becomes crowded (Such as dragons have since the visage updates), people such as this put a tremendous strain on everyone else and cause tempers to flare (As seen in the picture). Yes, I realize that there are other worlds but should I have to constantly world hop because someone is attempting something they have no business doing in the first place? No, I shouldn't. I also fully expect someone to come in and say "They pay so they deserve a chance to kill any NPC!". While, yes, this is true that they should be allowed to attempt to kill any NPC they want, they shouldn't be able to mindlessly attack the same NPC for 30, 40 and even 50 minutes because they're too weak to inflict any real damage on it. It's not fair to me and it's not fair to anyone else who actually has the adequate levels to kill the NPC. Therefore, with that being said, I believe Jagex should do either one of two things: 1.) Stick a slayer requirement on all NPC's (Nothing obscene. Simply something which would adequately reflect one's own combat prowess in relation to the NPC in question). If you don't have the level, then you won't be able to attack it; Period. Or 2.) Give ALL monsters some sort of range/magic attack that can't be protected. Personally, I'd prefer option one. Now, I know that this might make me sound like a selfish high level snob, but some people seriously shouldn't be doing the things they're allowed to do. There's no other MMORPG (That I know of) which allows for such a glaring loophole to be exploited at will. Thoughts? Comments? Flames? Come on... I know you want to : ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Upon further thought, I realized that adding a slayer requirement to every NPC would cause much more harm then good by arbitrarily excluding people from killing NPC's of their choice (Not to mention cause Jagex a ton of headaches). Therefore, I came up with a different solution. There should be a 3 minute timer installed on all non-multi combat, non-human NPC's (If you can't kill an NPC in under 3 minutes, then you're seriously out of your league). That is, you get 3 minutes of combat time to kill an NPC. after which time you'd get a message which would say; "You seem to be unable to inflict any damage on this creature. You decide to try again when you are stronger." From that point on you would be unable to attack any NPC of the same type for at least ten minutes. Under this system anyone could attack any NPC, but not being able to kill it in a decent time would prevent you from further attacking it and wasting everyone else's time.

*Ahem* You all are wrong. Runescape, much like any other computer based system, runs off of a series of algorithms. If the game deems you as 'lucky' you will forever be lucky; Conversely, if it deems you as 'unlucky' you will forever be unlucky. There's nothing random about it. That's what I said on page 4 (And just above).

Some players (Such as myself) get stuck on an 'unlucky' algorithm, and hence we never get drops. It's as simple as that, really.

Player and Forum mods: Life Long dream?
Sly_Wizard replied to WookieeMania12's topic in General Discussion
That's complete and utter BS. Since player mods are... Well... Players they're going to be biased towards a certain group of people/person or even be more lenient with those they call their friends whereas others would receive a mute for the same offense. At least by hiring a group of non-players who don't have a stake in any in-game actions you would ensure at least a measure of impartiality. -

Player and Forum mods: Life Long dream?
Sly_Wizard replied to WookieeMania12's topic in General Discussion
Actually, I know of a few people who are player mods solely because they post a lot of the RSOF (And never, ever criticize Jagex). Anyway, this is only my opinion, but I believe we only have player mods because Jagex is too lazy/unwilling to dish out extra money for real game GM's. -

At one point in the time the P-Mod list could be found on the internet (It probably still can). If you happened to take a look at it and casually put people's names into the highscore table, you might have noticed that quite a few of them were either ridiculously low leveled or had one or two stats on the highscores table (And they were usually only level 40'ish to boot!), as if they'd only been playing for a month. Crap like that really makes you wonder just how much thought Jagex actually puts into picking their P-Mods... :-k -
I said this a looong time ago when people were ranting and raving for a Dark Beast drop buuut... The amount of Dark Beasts available to kill in proportion to the number of players able to kill them is pitiful. I can't wait for the "There aren't enough Dark Beasts/People half-killing Dark Beast!" rants to begin. In the meantime, I've got about 500 uncooked wild pies to cook so I'm off.

Well, seeing as how this thread has been bumped, I suppose I'd better add in my $.02. If you got this information from Tracy West herself back in March (This thread was created on March 27) then why did you wait over two months after the fact to post it? :-k

It's not about feeding the unknowing to the proverbial wolves but rather leaving the unwilling to make their mistakes. I don't see the relevance between that statement and Runescape. Explain? -
For the combat triangle to be considered unfair it would have to exist first :wall:

First the Wilderness Ditch, Now This?(May Someone Lock This)

Sometimes if people don't want to learn through words, then they have to learn through actions. There's no sense is trying to draw parallels between my example and an extreme case, as such could be done with any debatable topic. As the saying goes "What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger". There's a difference between learning the hard way and dying in real life; I'm sure you realize that. Anyway, I don't think there isn't a single person alive who isn't the wiser today because of hard lessons learned in the past. It's an inevitable part of growth. Have you ever met someone who seems to have no common sense what-so-ever, only to later find out (s)he is that way because his/her parents protected him/her from everything? At some point in time, one has to let others make their own mistakes. For as long as people refuse to be accountable for their actions, Jagex will continue to dish out inane update after inane update instead of focusing it's efforts on things which the players can't control (Such as game content and auto'ers, though I personally have no problem with them). The only thing which Jagex owes to it's players are updates for those who pay and a safeguard against hacking (Something outside of the player's control). Scamming, however, is an entirely different story all together. It's the responsibility of the player to protect his or her character and the items contained therein while playing in-game. -

I'm just going to copy and paste what I wrote elsewhere. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." The problem isn't so much that Jagex is trying to protect it's players as much as it's fostering player idiocy. Jagex can't fix player stupidity; They can try, but it's impossible. By continuing to dish out updates which are, by internet standards, very babyish they only send the message to it's players that things such as common sense and accountability are a thing of the past. Players don't have to think; Jagex will do it for them :? You never saw inane updates such as this on RSC because players were generally older, wiser and more accountable for their actions. While I can't speak for everyone, I can speak for a large majority. If you were scammed on RSC you took it as a learning lesson and worked your way back up. Nowadays if someone is scammed they head over to the RSOF and whine and complain to Jagex. If Jagex would simply say "We've given you the necessary tools to protect your own account, so use them!" then a lot of these problems would all but disappear as people would be forced to take better care of their account and items contained therein. Sometimes the hard way is the only way people will learn. I can assure you that if someone is lured or scammed or whatever that they're less likely to be scammed in the future because they now know better. I saw the following example on the RSOF and I happened to like it: In the real world people tell their children not to touch a hot stove as it will burn them. Often the child does it anyway and gets burned, ultimately learning his/her lesson. This is similar. Jagex had told people for years to not tell people their password (Don't touch the hot stove) and yet they do it anyway (Touch the hot stove); Ultimately, these people learned their lesson. What Jagex is doing now is telling them not to touch the stove and then grabbing their hand and preventing them from doing while they try anyway; People aren't going to learn and will continue to do what they want to do. Jagex is expending unecessary energy trying to protect people who don't want to protect themselves. In closing, one doesn't need to be told that you don't say your password on Runescape; We know this. If you don't know this, then you shouldn't be playing Runescape, much less using the internet. It's the players responsibility to take care of his/her character and the items contained therein. -
