  1. hmmm... f2p, since youre high def you dont really care about safe spots. id say kill hill giants. just south of the ladder when you enter the dungeon theres a spot where 3 hill giants respawn, another respawn a little southwest and one north west. if you stand south of the stalagmite ( a little west of the spot with the 3 spawns, you can pick 5 targets from where you stand, so even if it gets crowded you still will nearly always have something to attack. turn on run and set your bow to rapid. since youre f2p and not a pure, bury your bones right there and just stay as long as you want. with green hides on you might get 1-3 damage every 10 giants, and most of the time other players will get in the way and keep the giant from even hitting you before they die. plus, with mith arrows youll kill most of them with 3-4 shots, before they can even swing twice. you might piss off most other trainers there, but its a really good spot for your levels
  2. if youre power ranging, hobgoblins in the back of the crafting guild is probably the best option, as well as black knights in the fortress near monastery. after that you have your ghosts and zomblies in varrock sewers from across the drain water. all these spot provide you with lots of targets that respawn quickly, safety of the monsters cant hit you, low level mosters that will take high damage because they have decent hp, and very low competition most of the time
  3. What are you talking about? You do not need a crossbow to range him. What gives you the idea that you do? Elvarg will 1 hit you without an Anti-Dragon Fire Shield. If you can wield it using a bow, then you are a god. 3 hands ftw! is it true that if you use mage to kill elvarg youll get mage exp and def exp? or if you range him to death youll get range exp and def exp? and if thats true then maybe if you fight him in defense style youll get all def exp?
  4. i'm not sure if its a rumor, but i think for the reward for dragon slayer, you get like 12k+ def exp, and 12k+ exp in the attack style you killed elvarg with. so if you killed him with ranged (try a cross bow and anti-dragon shield) you should get a few def levels and some bonus ranged exp now i'm not exactly sure, so youll want to find out for sure, instead of getting unnecessary combat from att levels. maybe you can ask runescape customer support to make sure. but if youre going for green hides, definitely do the quest before you train up your def
  5. at level 1 rc if you did the quest (death plateau i think) and you get a law talisman tou can enter the law altar and make a tiara if you want, but you cant make the law runes lower than lvl 54 some ppl with low rc use the tiara to get into the altar on world 66 to get laws traded faster with crafters in the altar
  6. you get 1.333 hitpoints exp for every damage point you do to a monster. it doesnt matter what weapon you use or what attack setting
  7. id like to see a world for running minds myself
  8. 1. Save the attack-mode state at log-off. definitely. attack shouldnt be the default setting, as well as walk mode. and the autocast feature is a very good example as well 2. Scroll lock on the chat window. i like this as well. i would defintely like to manually review what was said instead of each new line of speech bumping what im reading away 3. Shift-click to attack regardless of level. very true, and i totally support this. in the wilderness, if youre just one level lower than your opponent, you have to right click otherwise youd walk to the opponent rather than attack. this gives the higher level player an even greater advantage of easy clicking to attack, and the low combat level a big disability 4. Word wrap on the chat window. i dont support this. at some point youre going to have to put a limit on either the amount of characters you can type. one line works, it stretches accross the screen and the chat box. however, i'd love to see a private message system that can allow for memo-style messages, but its not really a pressing issue imo 5. Clicking anything in the UI would not stop current action i dont think this could be practical. it requires a bit of planning and hand-eye coordination to get the timing right for switching equipment or drinking a potion without losing your attack rhythm, but this is a skill aspect that should stay in the game 6. ON/OFF for chat filter. i disagree with this. having the chat filter turned off would mean allowing some people to see offensive language words. while some people are 'mature' about this, it stills violates jagex rules. also, this could backfire on the person because youd be giving evidence that youre using abusive language and get banned faster 7. Bring back the tell feature pretty much support. it could be a right-click option, or a text command. right now the option is to add the person and privately msg them. all things considering, it is extremely easy to do this, 2-3 clicks and you can personally msg whoever you want to talk to, and it would actually be easier than the text command for 2 reasons: 1. you wouldnt have to type '/tell coolguy7909 blah blah blah' for every line of text you want to send 2. the characters in '/tell coolguy7909' will cut down the amount of msg text you can actually send, by about 30% 8. "Listen" feature. similar to above. not really necessary, and the system that exists for pms allows you to do this anyway. you can switch public chat to friends and talk directly to the person in the same way 9. Action macros for most actions sorry, but this would totally defeat the game. i could set a repetitive action for an hour or 2 and walk away while my char is training. also random events exists to counteract this kind of training. jagex would never implement this. they intend for you to sit there and mouse click 6,000 times 10. Language preference could work, i suppose in servers of foreign countries. netherlands is a popular runescape foreign market. the player could opt to have the npcs speak in their language, etc. i dont think it would be a good idea, because it will cause barriers. for instance, nobody english speaking person would be able to do trades there, since they cant understand the language one thing, i suppose the players themselves could declare certain worlds ''official'' for particular languages, the same way we have world 66 law worlds and world 7 tipit world, the players could agree to declare a world the spanish world, french, or whatever other language there is. good suggestions on the most part
  9. thagern i was just about to recommend your suggestion in the meanwhile, in my sig is a link to a guide i made, but it uses the placeholder method. endasil, you dont know what youre talking about. every item in your bank, whether its duplicated or not, uses up memory for storage. if you have a placeholder item or a fixed position marker in your bank, its the same memory spot is designated for the item or the spot that represents the item. so it would actually utilize no more memory than what is already designated for bank storage anyway, i prefer the placeholder method. it raises the value of your bank, and the placeholder items can be used as backup gear if you happen to lose what you took out. if all you have is a placeholder, sure your bank layout will be preserved, but you still wont have the item. worse, for f2p players, a full bank of spot markers means you have to constantly remove and reset them to clear bank space, defeating the purpose i say its a good idea, but it doesnt beat having multiple items at all
  10. i have gotten the maze event almost always when my inv was full. usually when im smelting steel and my pack is full of ores
  11. this is a funny thread. gasp! too many iron arrows and body runes in the economy! and available to f2p players! as for laws, killing catablepons and ankous is not easy, and nobody really camps out there just training for hours. high level players just go to get their 4th sceptre piece and get out think of how world 66 has been flooding the economy with laws, or that dark wizards also drop lots of all types of runes. what about iron arrow fletchers, arent they ruining the economy too? as for the level 1 stronghold, its actually the single best place to train a pure. my level 42 1 hits level 12 minotaurs (10hp) pretty often, and i can pick up about 1k arrows with an inv of trouts and salmon. its really good training for every combat skill from very low levels (once you can comfortably handle goblins and barbarians). youve got barriers for training mage and range, plus its multicombat so everybody can get a share i think there are far more posts that highlights the benefits of the stronghold to worry about a few paranoid posters that thinks this will be the doom of the game
  12. i dont think they will ever totally get rid of all the questions at some point. perhaps after youve correctly answered the same question 10 times the game just skips that question for you if it comes up on the door you click. but today i've seen a few new questions that i didnt see the first time i came through, so i would imagine jagex would keep coming up with brand new questions every once in a while to keep thing things regulated, and to address any possible new scams or security risks maybe we could come up with other possible security questions that jagex didnt address but could be added...
  13. in response to the posster above, you have to remember that human life is not always seen as "valuable", and the value of somebody else's life is actually only relative to the point of view of the person with the bigger weapon. for eaxmple, killing during a war is completely justifiable, and nobody thinks for a second that the enemies out there are humans with lives. they see them as a threat to your way of life, and that gives you the right to kill them. same thing with criminals on death row, they disrupt the way of life in a community, so they deserve to be killed. from the wise old man's point of view, he wasnt happy about the status of his life. i suppose his golden fixtures in his house and his blue phat might give him the status he thinks he deserves, but does it really? he's still the same old adventurer in the same old run down house in the same village. he still offers bank cleaning services to f2p players and still tells stories of adventures. and he still spies on the wizards tower. so, why not run off to falador and build himself a mansion and have beautiful maidens entertain him? why not buy a whip and some dragon armor and head out on more adventures? why not use the money to create a doomsday device to take over runescape? i think the wise old man is a noble guy who still has his sense of honor and might actually be working on something that may save the world.
  14. its not a bug. in barb village sometime ths raccoons stand on top of the barbs and it looks like theyre attacking you. plus a cat can stand on a monster, or another monster respawn in a spot where your target is... it happens
  15. minotaurs dont drop staff pieces, only right skull halves. fight the flesh crawlers and catablepons for staff pieces. and killing 20 is nothing. keep killing. its a semi-rare drop, maybe one in 80 or so oh and when you finally get all the pieces, you have to join the skull halves together, then the staff halves together, then you attach the staff to the skull
  16. runecrafting is definitely a refinement skill. it uses raw materials and produces items directly for combat. all the base skills do is gather raw materials that generally cannot be used in combat without refinement. a lot of these raw items (hides, second ingredients, bones, etc) are not a result of a base skill, but from hunting and gathering, which actually is combat. so its kinda circuler, because combat sometimes supplies the raw materials needed to refine and use in combat i'd say the list should looklike this: BASE woodcutting mining fishing farming theiving agility REFINEMENT fletching runecrafting cooking smithing crafting herblore construction firemaking prayer COMBAT attack defence strength magic ranged slayer hitpoints i put agility in base skills because to me its a support skill that helps in every other skill, because it helps you get around. i put prayer under refinement because although it raises your combat level, its not really a combat skill. you can bury bones at a monster to death. but because prayer is raised by using a raw material, i put it as a refinement skill. its just the way i see it btw, nice thread and interesting idea
  17. safe spots? where are these safe spots? i havent found any safe spots to kill catlepons or ankous. catlepons are impossible to range sfely, because they can attack without being next to you. if youve found any (or anybody else), would you please post a screenshot?
  18. what i do is simply avoid training where theres a lot of immature people. believe it or not, some people are just looking for people to report. and jagex bans and asks questions later. i rather not bother with the idiots by avoiding them completely if you can. train in remote areas or off peak if possible. its stupid what you can be banned for. we have enough problems just keeping our accounts safe from hackers and viruses...
  19. very few people realize that smithing can make you just as good money as fletching at around the same level. at level 74 smithing you can make addy swords, which use 1 bar and alch for about 1248gp. at lvl 70 fletching yew longs only alch for 768gp. the thing is that wc exp comes a lot easier than mining, because you get multiple logs per tree with just one click, and its faster to get fletching exp too. but smithing is a much more valueable skill overall than fletching, imo
  20. *bump* major revision, formating and new sections added. feel free to add any suggestions to help me improve this \
  21. there are quite a few stores and banks that will sell visa gift cards and mastercard gift cards, and even american express gift cards. you dont need a bank account or credit or anything, just buy the card cash, and you can use that to make online purchase like a regular credit card up to the amount on the card. it works like any regular gift card, but you can use it online or wherever accepts those cards. do a search to find the location of a merchant selling that kind of gift card near you
  22. guards and black knights have high defence against melee. scorpions and spiders def are pretty low. i personally like skeletons, hill giants, and basically all the monsters on crandor. there are even hobgoblins there. then theres the ice caves, with lots of pirates, ice warriors and ice giants, but they hit hard so if youre going foodless thats a bad idea. with no food you want a low level monster that does very little damage. skeletons, hobgoblins or red spiders are the way to go, imo
  23. imo this is a dumb suggestion. let the nubs follow you, and walk past the wizards circle or something. it shouldnt even matter if they are following or not. just go about doing what youre doing. if you cant deal with other people talking to you, then youre not ready for a massive multiplayer environment
  24. Agreed completely. It used to be perfectly equitable; you could wait until a drop, snatch up all you can and sit on it until you're worth ludicrous amounts of money, and this opportunity was available to all players! Now Jagex has abolished tradeable drops out of some sort of misguided sense of fairness. If I was a new player I'd be a lot more angry at Jagex for discontinuing drops and denying that opportunity to me that the people who already have rares. this is so short-sighted. people are constantly flocking into runescape. tradeable drops would mean more hoarding and selling for a profit for doing nothing. holiday items were never meant to be for investment purposes. when will that sink in? party hats, pumkins, easter eggs, santas and masks should have never been tradeable in the first place
  25. i had actually put that in the first place, and minds - elves, becuase they have the spirit tree and all that. maybe that could owrk too. i changed it around because gnones are so weak and puny, but maybe natures match gnomes better after all :?
