Funky Training Area on f2p woo hoo!!
i think a lot of people here are missing the point. the update is not because f2p players should have cool armor or better places to hunt for a change, but because PEOPLE ARE STILL BEING SLACK ON SECURITY. and i dont know why people think this is only or mainly for new players. ALL players, regardless of level and membership, would benefit from a minigame that helps you be more aware of scams and ways to lose your account and stuff. and high level players and members have even more to lose from being hacked than new people. everyday people get scammed for their passwords, and even though the scammer gets banned, the account is already stolen and you cant recover it. things like recovery questions, setting a pin, changing your password, not using your rs pass on other sites, etc. thats the goal of the update, not because they want to make f2pers happy, and not because high level players or members are more wise about security. look at the people that had their accounts locked after the tip.it hack. lots of them were decent levels and playing the game for a while, plus being members of tip.it they had access to lots more game info. and all that still doesnt mean youre less vulnerable to losing your password. instead of focusing on what the new armor will be, understand that the point of the update is to teach players how not to lose their password

Introduce Rares an unfair Advantage?
i also agree with systemless. the fact that rares exist in runescape and are tradeable is due to gross short-sightedness on jagex's part. they made the mistake of making them tradeable in the first place. party hats and santas and haloween masks were meant to serve the exact same purpose that wooly hats and easter rings serve today: to wear for fun and show that you've been playing for a while. these items back then, like the new holiday items now, should have been made untradable in the first place. then there would be no such thing as a rare market and the unfair advantage of passive investments in the game however, there is really nothing that can be done to fix this problem barring resetting the entire game from zero. runescape will forever have the problem of rares as long as the game exists. construction was clever, but its effects on the rare market was very short-lived. the game doesnt need money sinks, it needs rares to be removed, and wiping the memory of everybody in the game so that they dont know rares ever existed, maybe with one of those men in black flashy things on the load up screen. but that wont happen as for unfairness, that is relative. you can only feel like somebody else has an unfair advantage if you are looking at what others are doing and compare yourself to them. a high player might think that low levels have an unfair advantage since they get new levels every 5 minutes. a new player might think that a high player has an unfair advantage because he can make 60k a trip at blue dragons. no matter what perspective you look at it from, it always seems as though the grass on the other side is greener i have never seen a suggestion or idea that seems to work. party hat npcs or quests, limited trades, phat respawns, expiry dates, none of these suggestions are near feasable. unless somebody really clever comes along, or unless jagex just yanks all the rares and say "haha n00b5 its my game and i can do what i want nyah nyah!", then i just play the game and forget about rares

best level to..
im 65 and i get sometimes half and half, sometimes more swordies. i think i get more loads of more swordies than more tuna, so i'd say the ratio improves. i guess its like lure fishing, after a while you get more salmon than trout nearly everytime

A levl 3 mod
i think recoils only hit 10% back... not sure. he would have to only fight agressive monsters that hit less than 10 max damage, and would only return damage to the monster if the hit he recieved was 5 or more. thats quite a feat

Censor
imagine you say (in a normal convo) "thats you! thats what everybody is doing!" and it comes out "***** you! ***** what everybody is doing!" and a mod happens to be walking by... see the problem...

Construction, Oaks - another autoing fiasco about to happen?
actually oaks are in much higher demand than yews and more expensive right now, and autoers could now make money for the oaks they train on instead of selling to shops. they get both quick cash and exp towards yew chopping later. and to think they didnt want f2pers to mine ess for members....

Armor Trophies.
and if u plan to do rune u need 99 smith lvl to do it:) Me = Stupid. Where can i buy a mithral skirt? I'm 67 smithing so I'll just mind bomb :) its dwarf stout, not mind bomb. and even if you have the full armor set you still need the sminthin lvl to make the display in your skills room. try it, it might work, if it does let us know

31 May 2006 - Readers' letters, bank space and game tweaks!
where are the newly added plank spawns?
-
Tips on construction: F2P to P2P
a head start would be to pick up all the planks you can, make any steel nails you can, and cut lots of normal and oak logs. its gonna cost quite a bit of cash, and make sure your smithing and crafting levels are decent (40+)

The Barrows!!! -- Story Of Me!!!
this is a terrible setup for barrows. take the best arrows available. ring of wealth is absolutely useless. you need your best mage offence, and prayer pots. casting magic attacks in rune is guaranteed to be the slowest way to kill them possible. youll spend too much time in the crypts splashing, youll run out of prayer pots too fast, and youll risk dying and every guide around recommends that you always do dharok first, while your prayer is fresh and your nerves are calm, because he is the deadliest brother of them all have you even read any of the guides?

Best Place For Mith Ore?
5 mith rocks in the lumby swamp 5 in mining guild, 2 in dwarf mines outside the guild gate about 4 on crandor, and 12 or more in hobgoblin mines 2 in al kharid mines thats all i can think of in f2p off the top of my head. check out the mining map link on the menu of the tip.it homepage for maps and more accurate numbers

Guide to soloing the blast furnace
from what i understand, you must take out the bars before you put in more ores. you can put in lots of coal, but metal ores cant be added until you move out some bars, and you cant have more than 28 metal ores and bars combined in the machine at any time also, if you load up the furnace with coal or ores and log out, you lose them when you log back in (same thing with the bone grinder, but not with flour mills, strangely enough...) so make sure you smelt everything out if youre gonna log off

you cant train stregth with a whip!! why not
spending three mil on a weapon that hits fastest with more damage than the other weapons that hit just as fast. I think hitting the fastest possible and doing excellent damage is worth 3 mil. if you look at his stats youll see the reason why he doesnt want a weapon that he cant train his str level. its the same reason i havent bought a whip yet and probably wont, even though i can afford it

A good method for getting pouches anyone?
like kwimbob said, take your best armor and a full inv of mid level food (i use tuna, but anything from trout to lobs is ok, depending on your armor, def and weapons. as soon as you get into the abyss head as fast as you can to the north west area. thats where youll find the most leeches and least guardians and walkers. leeches are non-agressive, hit 2 max, and only have 10 hp and low def, so you can kill them easily, and their drop rate for pouches is the same as the other abyssal critters. so youll be getting more drops with less work and taking less damage

Minigames: the Good, the Bad and the Pointless
i love the tai bwo wannai minigame for the snake skins and broodoo masks, gems and, with the imminent approach of carpentry, it will be one of the only 2 known sources of teak and mahogany logs, which will make it very popular soon i think youre underestimating the blast furnace. its actually a very good and profitable minigame, and you can run it without a team. other than that, i agree more or less with the analysis of the other minigames. good thread

We have tiaras, so how about crowns??
or, smoolik, the gold crowns/tiaras could be used by members for making elemental crowns/tiaras, by enchanting elemental talismans into them at any elemental altar. so far elemental talismans cannot be enchanted into tiaras (to my knowledge) and are members only

Actual Game-Clans
i didnt know that, irool, thanks. i suppose they are considering it, but that has been over 2 years ago. even though poh's are also not released yet, i cant see how the 2 are related. i really hope that its an update that will be coming soon. the buzz about the release of carpentry (now construction) is getting really big lately. yet they havent been saying a lot lately about implementing clans

Shhh... Im Hunting Torags... Be Vewy Vewy Quiet
thefiring, i think youre talking about the sidestep method, which is risky and tricky. if you happen to have the brother on the west side of the coffin while youre standing on the north side at the corner, you wont get hit, but you cant attack from there. its possible to attack the brother and run back to the corner real quick without getting hit, but its more likely youll get hit trying this. its not a very reliable method and people hardly try it (except maybe the best of the best, with excellent reflexes and timing.) i may be a little off, but thats my understanding of the side-step method. its possible to use his to kill the brothers without prayer, but i've never tried it and its not easy from what i understand
-
Shhh... Im Hunting Torags... Be Vewy Vewy Quiet
lmao, obviously you havent. you cant use the sarcophagus to block the brothers from reaching you. i guess its to tall to range/mage over. if youre fighting the brothers directly, youll be going toe-to-toe, thats why you have to use prayer. if it was possible to kill the brothers from behind the coffin it would be in every barrows guide around, and nobody would talk about prayer pots
-
Shhh... Im Hunting Torags... Be Vewy Vewy Quiet
you can run around the sarcophagus (sp?) the big tomb thing, to avoid getting hit, but you cant attack a brother from behind it. you can set up your cannon, then open the coffin, run around to the other side while your cannon kills him, then wait for him to die. if you run out of ammo and have to reload before the bro dies, put your prayer on, because running to the cannon the brothers will hit you

We have tiaras, so how about crowns??
what would stop a female character from wearing a crown? the tiaras are only useful for rcing if you want to save space and time, otherwise you have your talisman. tiaras arent around so people could look like royalty (although the p hats kinda do). i dont see how people could be hung up about wearing a tiara, its not that big a deal. stop being so insecure lol

Actual Game-Clans
im starting to think that jagex simply doesnt want players to have organised clans in their game. this has been suggested, proposed, lobbied, pleaded, begged, threatened and suggested some more, for YEARS. jagex should have put it in from day one, and have an npc on tutorial island explain player guilds to every new player. clans are not hard to implement. there are dozens of great ways to make a clan system in a mmorpg, and lots of features you can have for the clans, like communications, teleporting on command, announcements, clan chat (only clannies can see what you say in public) etc. but for whatever reason, jagex has decided to not entertain the idea of player clans. even though players make their own clans, set up their own clan fansites, and are recognized in the game community, jagex refuses to officially recognize them. then again, with this new year a lot has changed in the game. im actually thinking that there has been a big change in management. for one, the rack-down on macroers has been brought to the forefront. more rules have been added and enforced, and a lot of issues have been dealt with. i hope that jagex will implement a clan system. maybe they already have 1 in mind, and maybe they will release it in an update or a new version of runescape. but for whatever it is, i'm really fed up of good suggestions for a clan system like this one fall on deaf ears. sorry for being so pessimistic, but ive been playing for almost a year, and ive played quite a few other online rpgs, and clan formation is so basic im surprised jagex has slept on such a great feature like that

Can someone give a strategy to achieve my goals!?
for fishing, cooking, str attack and prayer (and even range and magic), you have ALL the things you need in one single convenient wonderful place. its called crandor island. assuming youve done all the f2p quests, grab a harpoon or cage (i prefer harpoons) an axe, and your best melee gear, and head over to karamja for a few days. believe me, its like a vacation resort there. you can start off on the lessers, the skeletons or the mosses, they all are great for various reasons lessers - drop heaps of chaos and fire runes, cash and rune meds and mith chains for high alching (but you cant hi alch without nats) mosses - drop big bones for prayer and some cool alching items (black kites, mith longs), and lots of earth, water and nat runes, needed for alching, as well as laws for teleporting (but you cant tele without airs) skeles - provide excellent exp for low max damage and high hitpoints, youll tear through these. they drop normal bones for prayer as well as cash and air runes. hi alch all the valuable stuff, bury the bones, and keep fishing. at your levels youll be killing a lot of monsters and collecting a lot of cash and valuable runes for leveling up magic later. and when you get bored just tele out for a change of scenery/change of clothes. come back and range the lessers and mossies when youre other goals are coming along ok. ranging to that level will take a while and a lot of cash, so the cash you made from hi alching and collecting will be put to good use without setting you back financially
