  1. There was a psychology experiment where one group of people watched an Indigenous person push a person of European descent and were to rate the severity of the push. The other group watched the person of European descent push with the same force, the Indigenous person and rate the severity of the push. The outcome was that people perceived the Indigenous person to be more violently rated than those of European descent.
  2. My hair not brushed, and winter pyjamas that don't match, one grey sock and one black sock. Yep, it's exam time tonight how'd you know.
  3. What an awesome thread I prefer the ladder theory myself, as it's more blunt and to the point :P Hmm what type of love are you? Eros love - beauty and sexuality Ludus love - entertainment and excitement Storge love - peaceful and slow Pragma love - practical and traditional Manic love - elation and depression Agapic love - compassionate and selfless Men have been found to score higher on erotic and ludic love, whereas women score higher on manic, pragmatic and storic love Duck (1986).
  4. Looking at my brother in his hospital bed when the doctors told him if they couldn't find out what was wrong with him; he will die in a matter of days. I can't describe what I felt. When I went home to grab him some stuff there was an ambulance at the front of my house, my mum had just collapsed in the middle of the bedroom floor and was rushed into surgery for pancreatitis, her bile duct was too fragile to operate on and if they had, she would have bled to death. I'm unsure as to what they did instead. The fear in me was the most intense I had ever felt.
  5. Some more random psych babble facts Fathers interrupt their children more than mothers do (Greif, 1980) Cultural taboos (Devito, 2001): Eye contact is considered aggressive in many Asian and African countries, also gender taboos Blinking your eyes is considered impolite in Taiwan Folding your arms over your chest is considered disrespectful in Fiji Putting your hands in your pockets is considered impolite in Malaysia Waving your hand is insulting in Nigeria and Greece Beckoning with palm facing up is considered disrespectful and rude in north and east Africa Pointing (by an adult) is considered childlike and rude by an adult in many Middle Eastern, Asian and African countries Pointing with index finger is considered impolite in many Middle Eastern countries, China and Indonesia Bowing to a lesser degree than your host implies that you're superior in Japan Using your left hand to eat or shake hands considered impolite in a wide variety of cultures, e.g. Malaysia, Indonesia North Africa and Arab countries. Pointing at someone with your index and third fingers means you're wishing evil on the person in some African countries Wearing shoes indoors is impolite and rude in many countries - infers that you think the house is not clean. Some factors implicated in Obesity - For all those who think people suffering obesity have themselves to blame for lack of exercise or eating the wrong food groups. Genetics account for on average 40% of the aetiology of obesity and up to 70%: Researchers have already isolated at least 200 genes likely to contribute to normal and abnormal weight (Yager, 2000). Obese people have more fat cells and their cells are larger; fat cells never disappear, they only shrink. Leptin (hormone) regulates body weight (set point) but it appears resistant in those who are obese and is not produced enough in those who can not put weight on. If obese people stop the diet they conditioned themselves to, they will actually increase their weight. Keith, Redden et al., 2006 explored scientific evidence for causes of obesity other than food and exercise which they claim have no scientific evidence as a causal factor (international journal of obesity) Found evidence for at least 10 factors including: Lack of sleep (produces endocrine changes) Reduction in fluctuations of ambient temperature Decreased smoking (nicotine thermogenic & appetite - smoking changes the cell structure, it's not the giving up of the smoking itself). Pharmaceuticals including psychotropic & contraception Intrauterine & intergenerational effects Higher BMI related to reproductive fitness
  6. Here is some other random psych babble you might find interesting. Australia and Mental Health *National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing (ABS, 1997) - 1 in 5 adult Australians met the criteria for a mental disorder at some time during the twelve months prior to the survey. *More than one million Australians suffer from a mental disorder, half of whom are affected long term. *Over 1/4 of all Australians aged 18-24 suffer from at least one mental disorder *Only about 38% actually receive help or treatment. *15% of those who suffer from Major Depressive Disorder die by suicide. The average onset is mid-20's and 50-60% will have a second episode. *10-15% of those who suffer from Bipolar I Disorder have completed suicide. *Panic Disorder affects 1.5 - 3.5% of the population. *Obsessive-Compulsive disorder affects 2-4% of the population. --- My advice to you is to read a sentence for what it is, you seem to show difficulties with this task. If it's fit for the school of psychology exam, I think it's sound to say it's fit for a discussion board, don't you? If you're still having difficulties, just quote me again and I'll spell it out to you.
  7. If it doesn't say letter for letter, common sense would say it was the other option without needing to ask 8-)

Why do you Play Games? I don't play anymore because of university I've come a long way to get where I am today and I don't want to ruin my grades. Why do you use the net alot? During studying I need 10 and 15 min breaks to escape what I'm studying or I go nuts. Why do you play Runescape? I used to play it because I had a "reputation" and I didn't want any of my enemies to beat me in combat and skills, I was competitive :P Then RS2 came out and after all those years of getting the skill levels that could now be obtained in a few months, I got really annoyed. I didn't like the fact that people could catch up to my levels that I worked really hard for in a matter of months. When I did want to play again a few months later, people I had never even heard of before were the best players in the game and most of the 'oldskool' players were dying off. I quit :P I didn't find the fun in it anymore because it had lost its competitiveness.
  17. Who is your favourite person to discuss things with? Viktor, Ragen - I think I would get along with them the best in the real world. Who do you think would label themselves as your enemy, or better yet, who do you strongly dislike on this board? [bleep]egamer - Because he said I'm a bad influence to teenagers when I dedicate my time to help them. If you could sit down with one person, and have a deep, philosophical conversation with them, who would it be? Trapical and Viktor - I like how they think and probably Bubsa - Now that I've seen the other side to him I actually like who I see. If TIF was "real-life", who would, you consider being your group of friends? Tigra, Viktor, Deleriagod, Suzi, Trapical, Ragen, Rick, Warri0r45 Do you miss seeing anyone around? King_Ulrich If one person on this board were to become famous for doing something awesome for the world, or for maybe becoming a world leader, who do you think it would be? Trapical or Viktor - because I see potential and maybe even deleriagod, if he can convert some of his anger into the ability to strive, act instead of speak I think he'd be unstoppable.

  22. Best way to annoy someone is by getting high distinction on an exam where the mean was a pass and ask everyone else what they scored. I personally wouldn't do it though, I know how much it would annoy me.
