  1. You guys are still wrong. You should also be smacked for arbitrarily changing the 128mb to a decimal. :shame: 128mb times 20 = 2560mb 2560mb / 1024 per gig = 2.5gb (yes it's exact)
  2. First problem, it's a beta release. You either need to downgrade to the last stable version, or update to the latest 8.1 that ISN'T a beta. I personally don't use Live messenger so I don't know what the latest version is. After you've installed a stable version (not a beta or alpha release), if it still keeps crashing, then we can start poking around for other issues.
  3. You need to be weary of extremely low monthly prices because it usually means the host has to oversell the box to keep a profit, which could mean you don't get what you pay for if you ever need it. Compared to say hostdime.com (shameless plug, been there 3 years now), their cheapest plan is $6 a month for a gig of disc and 30gb transfer, which is cheaper per mb than d2 when you crunch the numbers. Places like HostDime also own their own data centers and provides 24/7 tech support by helpdesk or phone if you ever need the help. The only support offered on D2 is an email address and a forum that hasn't had an admin reply in over a month. :? Anyway, WebHostingTalk is an extremely good place to ask for advice as Merc said. Even if you're just looking for cheap $x a month hosting, they're usually more than willing to help you out. I'm not saying use HostDime over D2 (or any other cheap host), just throwing out some words of advise from past experiences.
  4. Mac laptops are only affordable when you have $1100+ to spend. That usually doesn't fit into the "affordable" category for most people. Dell and HP's home & home office laptops will make for good low end laptops if you're looking for major brands. Newegg's laptop section is also another good place to start looking to get an idea what you can get for your money. The 2 Dell Precision Series laptops listed on the Dell (the M65 and M90) website also start at $1400, also not "affordable" in the normal sense.
  5. Google to the rescue! Really annoys me when Microsoft puts the same thing in 2 places. In IE7's tools menu > Internet Options > Advanced tab, there's a checkbox in the multimedia section that says "Always Use ClearType for HTML". Uncheck it. With the display set to "Standard" IE still used ClearType on my laptop with that checked. Unchecking it and restarting IE turned it back off. I don't use IE day to day so I didn't know that option was there. :x I truly am stumped if that one doesn't fix it. :ohnoes:
  6. Is the check box above it marked? (Sounds like a stupid question, just making sure :P ) Might try setting it to ClearType and back to Standard to make sure it's changing the setting. If the check box is checked and changing to ClearType and back doesn't fix it, I'm stumped. :?
  7. I personally prefer the ClearType fonts, they look sharper, might have to do with my monitor though. :? Anyway, to turn it off: Control Panel > Display (or right click the desktop and go to properties) > Apperence tab > effects button > Drop down under "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts", change it to "Standard" instead of "ClearType" Hit ok/apply and ok in the display options. All done.
  8. You can remove all system restore points by turning it off and then back on in Control Panel > System > System Restore. Posting a HJT log for colt to look over would be a good idea since AdAware doesn't seem to be doing the job.
  9. You may want to try running your scans in safe mode (Hold F8 before windows starts). This will load only the essential processes windows needs to run and prevent anything else from automatically starting. If AdAware found something, and said it was removed, the program most likely replaced itself if it was running.
  10. Some routers also default to 192.168.0.1 (like my old DLink, it's now dead :x ) when trying to log into them. Ping questions always make me think of this bash.org quote. ---------- mikercool, you need to reread what blade said and stop trying to attack one line of my reply. He didn't agree with you, he even told you to stop attacking me and then explained why you were wrong. You're living in bizarro world if that's agreement. If you were on 28.8 in any major metro area, you would have better ping times to RS servers (because of local backbones, shorter round trip) and therefore no lag because a 28.8 connection can easily handle RuneScape's data needs. The connection as a whole can handle it, the distance and the copper you're traveling is just degrading it beyond reliable use. Selective quoting doesn't help your argument either, especially when you have no argument to begin with. Other posts in the thread make is pretty obvious you aren't going to get anywhere in your quest to make me look like an idiot. Unless Vashinred has more questions, I'm done replying here.
  11. World 1: ul7.runescape.com World 3: po3.runescape.com World 4: po4.runescape.com You can get the remaining hi/low detail args from any other world link.
  12. Right click the desktop > select properties > Settings tab Check the screen resolution tab. You should be able to slide it to the right to use a higher resolution (which will shrink window size). You can adjust the 2 monitor separately if they're different sizes. If it isn't screen resolution then something in your video settings might have been changed. :?
  13. Definitely looks like a spyware bar. :P Get yourself Spybot S&D and Adaware if you don't already and run scans with both. If it doesn't remove it you should try scanning in safe mode (Press F8 as windows starts and select an option) to be sure it isn't running while you scan.
  14. You've apparently never heard of Root Kits. Once you're infected with one of these, your ONLY choice is to wipe the system clean and reinstall because of the way they modify and replace system files. You have no way of knowing what was modified, where it is, how to replace it or if you got it all when you try to clean it. There are a lot of very good reasons to wipe a system after an infection. You should go research some of them. Earpy's hijack this suggestion is a good idea. :P
  15. Your personal experiences are not the benchmarks for the rest of the planet. You need to get off your high horse and research what you're saying before you go spewing it on public forums. If you're going to be posting on the T&C board, you should at least have a clue what you're talking about, and you obviously don't. If you don't believe me, I suggest you go get a bandwidth monitoring tool and watch what it does as you play RS with nothing else open. I've never seen RS above 4kb/s in the 5 years I've been playing. Doing the straight up conversion, 28.8kbps dialup is 3.6kB/s, so you shouldn't be having any problems. I'd think someone that supposedly owns a stereo store could afford a faster pipe too.
  16. Even knowing it's a Starcraft map, it still doesn't tell us how fast your connection is because 1% per 2 seconds is dependent on file size. :?
  17. You both will most likely be best off just uninstalling the current version and reinstalling fresh with the latest version from suns website. It'll save the headache of trying to troubleshoot why and gets you to the same end, an up to date Java install. Sun's java installers are found here. You'll want "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10" (5th item down). Click download, accept the licence on the page and install one of the two options (they're both the same thing, one is an offline install, the other downloads while installing). After installing you should be good to go.
  18. RS will run fast on any connection because it sends very little data between you and the server. Most other games do a lot more sending and receiving so require a bit more bandwidth. "1% per two seconds" isn't a very usefull number. It could be for a 50kb file, or 2gb, we don't know. Running SpeakEasy's speed test and posting the results for us will tell us more about your internet speed. :P Fast or not, I'd definitely suggest securing your wireless to ensure no neighbors or drive by users are abusing your access point.
  19. Please do read before you go saying 7.1 isn't being discontinued. If you continue to run 7.1 after January 15th, you will not be getting definition updates.
  20. If you don't already have a virus scanner, I suggest you get AVG, install it and update it. Other programs you should go get if you don't already have them are Spybot S&D and Adaware. All of these are completely free so don't freak out if you see a donation link. After installing those, make sure they are up to date. Restart your computer and before the windows loading screen appears, press and hold/tap the F8 key several times. You should get a menu with several "safe mode" options you can arrow through. Select one of them ("Safe mode with networking" recommended so you have internet access) and run virus and spyware scans from there. You might also try using TrendMicro's online virus scanner too.
  21. So I was right, you are an Altec shill, trying to sell anyone you can into the highest priced set you can find. Not everyone is an audiophile and not everyone cares about the exact pitches and tones from their speakers. They just want it to sound good without breaking their bank account. If he wanted perfect sounding speakers, he definitely wouldn't be posting here asking for cables. Logitech also makes much more than mice, just so you know. The guy asked for wires for god's sakes, not for some audio sales men to pitch him a new speaker set.
  22. http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/bochspsp.shtml :-w :-w The link you post is about using an emulator to run Windows 95. The posts made earlier were about WRITING Windows 95 for the PSP, which isn't what your link is doing.
  23. IE7 does replace 6 when it's installed, but can just as easily be removed through the Add/Remove Programs panel. Uninstalling IE7 automatically roles you back to IE6 (that's what happened with both machines I've removed it from). This is also why I don't let windows automatically install updates on it's own, it causes issues. :P
  24. I'm sorry I missed that little "per speaker" tidbit. Want a cookie for knowing how to correct a multiplication error? Not everyone needs or wants a $200 speaker system to listen to Pink Floyd. My $40 logitech set does perfectly fine for my uses (including music). And my Logitech set has 4, puts out great sound in my opinion, so what's your point? For someone that isn't an uptight audiophile, yes it does. Why do you think he picked the set he picked? Maybe, just MAYBE he has uses for it beyond what you assume. You're beginning to sound like an Altec shill. Make some better points than calling the sound a "dog fart", people might actually listen to you. Stop babbling about your experiences with them and help the guy find his freaking wires.
  25. 1) The Altec set you link to is only a 75 watt system. The KLH set he originally asked about is a 550 watt system (5 100w satelites and 1 50w Sub). 2) The KLH set is 5.1, your Altec is 2.1. 3) Those tall, white Altec speakers look like crap. Coldvenom: Looking at the rear picture found here you will need some standard speaker wiring and some kind of composite cable to plug into your sound card. Not sure where to find the speak -> computer cable atm.
