Not really strong opinions, just someone being blatantly wrong. :P PHP is a good place to start learning this stuff tho. :

Firefox 2.0
One thing I have noticed that I don't like are the new default bookmark toolbar buttons. The old bar used flat buttons with no edges while the new default skin uses rounded corners and ends the button extremely close to the end of the text. Wish my skin would update for 2.0. :(

PHP Trouble
PHP supports both || and using the actual word. I'm too noob at PHP to really figure out what's going on with your script by just looking at it. :x

overclocking
Just let him try it. We'll have fun smiling at the thread when he finds his hardware is melting.

New Forum Idea - Polls!
It was tryed a long time ago, and it went down in a ball of flames because of all the "Do you like pizza?" and related crap that got posted as polls. The forum usage has only gone up since, so it wouldn't be any better now.

Firefox 2.0
I think the thousands upon thousands of testers pounding at it since beta 1 would have found those by now. :P Now if we could just get most of the forums using that inline spell checking, we'd be off to a *really* good start. :XD: The admins have something to point at now when someone suggests a spellcheck mod too. I'll be installing it when I get home tonight. I'll have to do a little tweaking to fix the tab scrolling and move the close button back to the right edge (I middle click to close tabs anyway) but overall it sounds like a solid release.

What type of computer should I get my bro?
This coming from the same guy that said PHP is faster that HTML. You get negative points just for telling him to buy the overpriced crap that is Alienware. Even if you aren't going to build it on your own, looking through the barebones kits and parts on Newegg is always a good place to start. It'll give you a good starting point to reference just how much you're spending. You can build yourself a rather nice computer for $500 now and it's pretty easy if you have a techie friend or family member to help you along. XP Home OEM disc - $89 plus shipping XP Home retail (The version you'd buy on it's own from a store) is $189, so yes it's significantly cheaper. :P

:: Need some help with HTML ::
Right, coming from the person that said "PHP is way better than HTML" when they're two completely different languages with completely different purposes. I'll go over it again, just to humor you. How are two completely unrelated languages better than one another? HTML is used for building webpages and nothing more. You can't write a web page in pure PHP and have it render. PHP can be used for stand alone apps that have zero to do with html and web pages. You can't use PHP for websites without outputing some kind of HTML. So, I'll ask again, how is one better than the other? And that it completely wrong. Adding PHP on top of your website will actually cause a slight slow down depending on how much php you process. Instead of just grabbing an HTML file and sending it to the browser, it has to be passed through the interpreter, generate whatever you have it doing and THEN send it to the browser. Unless you invented some kind of time warp, it isn't faster than just grabbing and sending a file. If you do know what you're talking about, please do prove it.

video card help
Vertex shaders are part of the hardware. You can't just download a driver and have them magically appear. I have no idea what the specs for Rise and Fall are, but you can pick up a decent video card that will run most new games on atleast medium for under $200. Like the other reply said, Newegg.com is a good place to look if you're in the US.

Certain topics loading particularly slowly
I do too, it still likes to hang periodicly. I have no idea why. :?

Certain topics loading particularly slowly
I've has some topics load particularly slowy on my dialup line, but this was due to the pages loading the images first. Why, I have no idea. It's a similar problem, but I've never had any topics just not load at all, there's always been status bar activity showing image loads. One thing I can confirm causing pages to load slow are those damn burstnet ads. Even if you blackhole the things (sorry, i *hate* burstnet ads), it can still cause the pages to hang for a very long time while your browser waits for a timeout. Using a float'ed table like the main tip.it website does for the ads would stop that from happening since the page is loaded before the ad. I think some links to topics this is happening on would be helpfull. There were a few early on, but those are now weeks old. :?

:: Need some help with HTML ::
Do you have any clue what you're talking about? Websites that use PHP use it to generate, guess what, HTML. They are 2 completely different languages. Unless I'm way behind the times, and somebody just ripped HTML our from under us last night, you can't just replace HTML with pure PHP and have a working website...

How do you store batteries?
I'd suggest running it till it's dead before storing so it doesn't slowly discharge itself while it's in storage. When you take it back out of storage it'll take a few charge/discharge cycles to get back to full capacity but it'll keep the battery usefull for a longer period of time. A quick googling for "battery storage" gave quite a few usefull pages on the subject too.

:: Need some help with HTML ::
You can't do logins and account tracking with just HTML. You need to find and learn something like PHP, ASP or another similar language for generating your pages and handling accounts. Trying to jump from basic html knowlege to handling user accounts is fairly large, so I suggest you take some smaller steps to learn some more basics first.

Recommendations for membership
Windows 98 is a dinosaur, 128mb of ram is nowhere near enough for just about anything in recent years, and getting a harddrive with the Alienware name on it won't fix anything. If you're still running Win98 with 128mb of ram, you'd be better off getting an entirely new computer than trying to peice things together for better performance. With a box that old you won't get far with part upgrades anyway.

Would be nice if we had more info than "Everything lags". Try reading the stickies and get back to us.

Looking for Simple Media Player
I personally don't know of any players that do this. It's probably because using strictly folders and file names to organize your files is extremely limited. That was the whole point in adding ID3 tags to mp3 files, so you could catalouge them beyond the file sytem. I seriously suggest you just tag them, even if it takes a while. You'll thank yourself later when you can filter and sort in a media library instead of digging through folders all the time. :?

New Tip.it IRC Server Discussion
I believe #trivia is run by cruiser instead of tipit, so you would have to talk to him. Yeah it's run by me. :P There is a link to the scores list in the room topic you see when you join. It's updated automatically by the bot every 100 points, so it's fairly up to date while people are playing alot. The questions I have running are from a giant file offered on the scripts website. They have a RuneScape file (which I have mixed in with the other 108,000 questions  ) but playing it by itself is rather easy and very short before you start seeing the same questions again. If you or other's want to start building a question file for the room I'd gladly use it if it was large enough and varied enough to keep people interested. I just don't have the time to do it myself tho. Just write the questions and answers one line at a time in a text file, seperated by a * if you want start working on one. Example: (This may not be correct, just an example :P ) Edit: I'll also supply the current text file if anyone wants to check it for correctness and build off of it.

New Tip.it IRC Server Discussion
If you think that was annoying you're going to go insane with them allowing color now. It's text, you aren't dieing. If all else fails, /ignore. It just went live today, some things are still getting tweaked and worked out, and the rush from the news post has made things a bit hellish, but it'll get better.

Wierd IE website loading bug
I've got that 3 second delay you are talking about, but I have no idea what would be causing it. The code looks fine, FireFox renders it perfectly, the only thing I can think it may be would be server settings, but that's just a wild guess. :?

Fairness
Adding a moderation section to the edit page for the forum mods/admins (Like the sticky/announce buttons) would make this much easier. Click edit, make your changes and type in the box. It wouldn't be hard for anyone to throw together a snippet that adds "Edited by xxxx at xxxx. Reason: ". Hell, even make em option buttons so it's one click instead of some typing. It gives the user a reason and saves the mods a bit of time with the automation. I know of one post today already that was locked because someone didn't bother to read the starting post. Half the reason stated for the lock was already answered in plain view in the begining of the thread. 'Regulation' could help point this out, cuz I know if I PM whoever made the mistake I'm going to get my head biten off like every other time I've told this person they screwed up. Accountability keeps the population at ease instead of leaving room for conspiracy theories. If the users know why, they won't think "OMG THEY HATE US".

uploading a picture for my sig.
You need the set that contains . is what tells the forum to display the image instead of just the URL pointing to it. Copy and paste that into your forum signature and that's it.

internet connection problem (solved)
Unless you have somebody like Verizon running fiber to the curb, no. You'll still be using to existing phone/cable lines to get out of the house to the neighborhood hub. After hitting that hub you're probably running on fiber, but most ISPs are too cheap to run it to the curb (Even tho taxes payed for it to be done 10 years ago. :wall: ) Wikipedia strikes again! (FTTP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiber_to_the_premises#United_States) Hope they figure out what's up with out charging you an arm and a leg. Always sucks when that happens. :?

internet connection problem (solved)
Yes it does use phone lines. :P Depends on what kind of service you have though. (relevant wiki entry) It could be many things. Interference on the line, bad connection to the neighborhood hub, bad hardware. Unfortunately it's one of those hit and miss problems when you try fixing it. :x
