I'm sure you all agree... SURPRISING ANALYSIS - 4TH LINK
Nice straw man. Many Obsidian items were dropped, there's so many in game it's almost impossible for it to go up unless bought out. Even you said, MILD inflation is good, however in Runescape it's MASSIVE inflation, have you EVER seen 15-20% jump in high end items within a week or so? No. Yes... and those are just rares. I remember multiple times back in the day that items would all of sudden increase rapidly after an update... and by the way, these graphs show that inflation continues throughout this game...yet it still continues to function normally. From someone who has seen inflation take toll on this game since early 2002, I'll stand by my opinion that slight inflation isn't going to ruin the game any time soon... Inflation is the general rise of ALL items. Pull out the prices of items such as R2H, Rune skim, Dragon items, Treasure Trail, and other items. They all drop. Your graph only show the rise of a certain market that gains value over time. [/hide] 1. Your definition of inflation is wrong...not all items have to rise for there to be inflation... and if it is right, if you look at Jagex's graphs, some items are falling in price..on a daily basis. Even excluding manipulation, which often has prices drops, some items are falling "naturally". Therefore, inflation isn't a problem by your definition, because it doesn't exist...right? /sarcasm 2. I had another point to make...let me get back to you on that as soon as you post another ill-supported argument. General Rise, excuse me for not picking our my word carefully. Even then your charts does not show inflation during that period. It shows the rise of a few commodities within an economy. If the price of emeralds in the real world rose 100% tomorrow. It does not show inflation, it only shows the rise in emeralds. If however, the price of nearly all commodities (bread, water, coal, oil, jewlery, etc etc.) rose tomorrow, that is a hint of inflation. That hint of inflation can be caused by many different causes, the rapid increase of the monetary supply in RS easily supports my argument.

Inflation rates that gets out of control will mean that noone will use the GE ever again. I earn 50k today, by tomorrow that 50k is worth 1gp. Noone will ever trust any type of item directly linked with a GP source. All runes, Sp shards, GP, arrows buyable in shops, dragon items buyable in shops will become useless. Before you know it, Whips are 10m, D hatchet is 50m, GS is 1 bil, Phats will no longer be traded. How's that for why inflation is bad.

Changes to the Grand Exchange
Bad update for real merchants, good update for price manipulators. Although giving people the ability to see longer periods of time is good, taking away the daily, 7 day, and 30 averages removed a very intricate part of the game. I give the update 50/50

Nerfing the 26k trick.
With this update, I am predicting that buyable skills will become more expensive, RC will no longer be the most profitable skill due to the fact that rune price are capped by the infinite stock of shops. Slayer, GWD, boss hunting will become more profitable as the special items are going to come into the game less, collection skills will become more profitable due to more people wanting to train buyable 99s. So in other words, I better get 99 rc in a month or I'd be crying at how slow money making is >.> As for people in Jagex taking Micro and Macro, Inflation is lesson 1 in Macroeconomics, supply and demand is like lesson 2 in Microeconomics. That is why I am highly doubtful of the education of Jagex employees at the moment >.>

Nerfing the 26k trick.
The 26kers are not at fault. Jagex is by implementing this system without carefully considering the implications of their actions. Personally, if someone of the Jagex staff even took just EC101 and EC102 (Intro to Micro and Macroeconomics), they would realize what they did would destroy the RS economy. I for one tested it out myself after my friend told me repeatedly to try it. And I for one realized that it makes more $/hr compared to 91 rc (double nats) along with the possibilities of brawler gloves. This is the result of a market economy where the RS players are guided by simply the invisible hand to attempt to maximize our wealth. I do not discourage people from doing this trick, perhaps if people abuse this enough Jagex will finally see what they have done and fix it. After all, the path that led to the Great Depression was not fixed until after the Depression hit and World War 2 had begun.

PvP Artifacts and It's Effect on Runescape Economy
If you did not notice, the inflation rate has already spiraled out of control at an alarming rate. The general cost of items whether for combat or skilling has been shooting up. If you still do not believe me, take a look at the ge database yourself.

PvP Artifacts and It's Effect on Runescape Economy
Ok, I'm a bit tired of Jagex messing things up so I'm going to sum up why artifacts can not be allowed to stay. Please read the entire article for my views on Jagex's attempt to bring back PvP or skip to the end for my solution. The problem at the moment with PvP imo is that Jagex does not have a good definition for Pking. In RS, there are usually many things you can do to manufacture money. I use manufacture because in an essence, you are either generating GP out of nothing or taking an existing item, modifying it, and allow it to grow in value. However, all of this can be filed down to 2 groups. You have your gathering skills (Woodcut, Mining, Hunting, Fishing, Slayer, etc) and your manufacturing skills (Runecraft, Fletching for junk, Herb farm, etc). Now, a common misconception for people is that PKing "makes/manufactures" money/wealth. That is simply not true. Unlike the skills a person trains and gains items from, pking is merely a form of "trade". Before the anti-RWT movement that put a trade limit on every item, removed classic pking (in which the winner receives all the items that the loser risks), pking was a form of exchange much like merchanting. There is always a winner and a loser in a trade, but no NEW wealth is created by this trade. After the release of PvP worlds, Jagex made the mistake of allowing Pking to manufacture new wealth. Hence the 26k trick is allowed to work. By doing this, Jagex first saturated the economy with "extra" items that does not originally belong within the economy, ex. DFS and DFH being the 2 prime examples. These extra items allowed the economy to deflate. Causing previously elite items to become worth a lot less as seen from DFH. This only affected part of the economy as only a few items types were being introduced at a much faster pace compared to before. After Jagex introduced artifacts however, they made one of the biggest mistakes in the most basic forms of macroeconomics concepts. By introducing artifacts, an extra form of GP, they now not only INFLATED the entire economy, but they now have affected the ENTIRE economy by the new introduction of 1 item. This extra form of GP which I call "fake" gp (due to the fact that it does not belong with the original RS economy) will cause the economy to inflate, as seen only a few days after the artifacts update. This situation will only progress further to a point in time that GP will become useless as people will struggle to find a new type of currency (Trading Sticks maybe? Throwing it out there as it is a trade able form of currency). Now some people might ask, "How will GP become useless? It is impossible!" Pre world war 2 in Germany, the German government decided to inflate their own economy due to the fact that it was impossible to pay off debt to the victorious allies from world war 1. A loaf of bread cost as much as 1 billion marks at that point. A closer example in time would be the Zimbabwe economic crisis in which is the same situation. Extra German Marks and Zimbabwe dollar introduced within the economy nearly destroyed the country until a new form of currency was introduced and revalued. My solution to fixing this is not going to be a popular one. Unfortunately it is the best way I see to fix this current economy. Pvp will be turned to something such as construction or Summoning, a skill which drains money. The US government is the best country in the world at doing this with the help of the Central bank and distributing Bonds. Pking will be given a tax at random between 70-10% depending on EP. The tax will work in the following way: If player A vs player B, and player A kills player B. Player A will be given a random tax depending on the EP on the loot he recieves. The loot originally will equal to the amount that player B was RISKING calculated depending on skull and protect items. This tax will be taken out of the economy, draining the extra wealth that is entering into the economy. This solution would bring PvP closer to what it had been prior to the anti-RWT updates. It will force Pkers to Pickout a target due to the tax. It will drive down 1-iteming as it will not be profitable any longer. It will also eliminate the 26kers as all they will be doing is losing money rather than making new money. Thank you for reading (assuming you did read everything :))

G.E should the caps be changed?
[hide=] I still can't believe this. Virtual currency isn't real currency, therefor not governed by the laws of that country. Why do you not understand that runescape is a game, and these laws govern real life trade. The money in my bank is real, the money in my runescape bank is pixels that is stored in a database somewhere. if gold coins are pixels, then $100 dollar bills are just paper actually, people actually work hard for every single gold coin, whereas in real life they just appear out of thin air from the people that print the money, and then give their fake paper to the averange people and in truth, most money in real life is stored "virtualy" in some database. That means it's not real money? (yes, money that is stored virtualy but doesn't exist in real form such as paper) You'll find out a bit of what I'm talking about here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 7695921912 $100 bills are just paper, however that paper fuels the needs of humans(food, shelter, entertainment(yes, people would go crazy without it)). And most people work hard for the money they earn. And the government hardly prints new money without destroying old. The US for example borrows it from other countries. The reason there is a difference between a sticky note and a $100 is people have faith in their money. The believe it's worth something. And other people have that same belief. Runescape, on the other hand, is a flipping game, which is a concept you seem to find hard to grasp. Yes, it's a grinding game, that some people treat as work, but it is a game, none the less. If you fall into this catagory, then I'm sorry that you chose to let fantasy take over your reality. [/hide] That virtual pixel also fuels my need for runes to play cw, armor to monster hunt, etc etc. Runescape is like every other MMORPG. You play a role in a fantasy world. That world is modeled after the real world because it is how humanity it self operates. So why shouldn't it be as realistic as possible?

Nerfing the 26k trick.
I agree that the current PvP system is greatly flawed, but this statement won't advance your cause. I won't pretend to know the exact numbers, but I believe only a mere 10% (or less) of Pkers left the game as a result of the RWT update. These players have long since been replaced by a flood of new members, and the number of accounts created in recent times has actually reached all-time highs. You'd do better to present your argument in terms of the decline in the quality of gameplay, rather than in that of the quantity of players. Anyhow, I would propose the following: (1) Calculate the value of items "risked" by a player starting at the fifth most valuable item (if non-skulled) or the second most valuable item (if skulled), so that players won't be able to safely gain Potential by being able to use Protect Item at the last moment before they're killed. (2) Remove the EP percentage-counter. (3) Increase the rate at which Drop Potential is earned, but require players to risk 26k/76k at all times and be in combat before any Potential can be earned. (4) Set a conditional limit to the value of individual "kills," e.g. only allow for a player to receive item rewards totaling to ~75-110% of the value of the items lost by the killed player (or, perhaps, 90-150% if the player was the bounty target) if they're at 100% EP and risking 26k/76k. (5) Allow Mandrith and Nastroth to open shops containing untradeable versions of the Ancient PvP Sets and Corrupted Dragon Gear valued at ~75% of their minimum price on the GE. Players could still turn in their PvP artefacts directly for GP and receive the tradeable versions of the Ancient PvP items and Corrupted Dragon items as normal drops, but they'd also be given the chance to purchase these items at a significant discount from Mandrith/Nastroth. However, they'd only be able to buy these by turning in PvP artefacts for some form of untradeable, non-refundable "credit tokens" and spending the tokens instead of GP. In Bounty Worlds (where the GE cannot be accessed), Mandrith could also offer standard potions/food/armour for ~110% of their maximum price on the GE. (6) Remove the High Alchemy Spell (while keeping Low Alchemy and simply renaming it "Alchemy") to prevent inflation, as should have been done long ago. This is by no means a perfect solution, but I believe implementing these measures would certainly be a step in the right direction. 'Please give me your opinion on whether or not any of this would be beneficial. :) This looks like the best solution I have seen so far. #5 in particular. If these "extra" gp that is randomly generated (I say this because it is in fact extra, people are turning 25k into 100k) are used on untradable items and restricted from the GE economy, it could possibly stop the PVP inflation.

A REAL Solution to Price Manipulation
What if Jagex made an example of some of the merchant clans? Many veteran players knows which clans I'm referring to. Just banning perhaps the major players in them and posting their names on the front page as a warning could serve as a very well warning. If people see these high-profiled people banned from the game for doing this, I highly doubt anyone else would be dumb enough to continue. Even if there are people still left wanting to play a part in manipulating, it would be a lot weaker than it is now. P.S. Let's keep the discussion on topic >.>

PvP Artifacts and It's Effect on Runescape Economy
As this keeps up, GP will become meaningless. That's why I'm starting to stock up on items instead of gp. Unless jagex changes something soon, before you know it, items such as whips will become 4-5 even 10m due to the massive amount of gps entering the game. Pvp used to deflate certain items such as DFH. Now with artifacts, it will become the opposite as items will now inflate to massive amount of cash that has no meaning. The only way I can see for pvp worlds to be fixed is if the drops are either equal or less than the total risked amount for the player. Any other way will cause an imbalance within the economy.

Barrows Armor
I have enough armor to purchase nearly any armor that I wish, however, when I'm slaying, I still use my guthans + whip + rune def. Barrows won't be outdated for a long time due to the fact that it is cheap with massive def. The set affects can always be appreciated by someone somewhere in RS.

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
To be able to afford items / skills that would be unreachable without a large amount of cash. Such as 99 herby/ prayer/ summon / construction. Or items such as a godsword set , Spirit shield etc. Its also the fact that having a large sum of money is impressive to your average scape and thats what a huge percentage of this game is about , to impress your mates etc. What other uses do phats / rares have etc ? Phats look badass. \ Also, your idea of obscene amounts is no longer the same value as it was years ago. As more GP enters the game, RS is undergoing constant inflation. GP value drops as time pass as more of them enter the game. 500m is no longer a ridiculous amount of money. People are constantly re-evaluating money. The way people see item prices at the moment just shows how much GP is now valued in the economy. Trust me, if phats were 1gp each, you wouldn't think they look badass. that scenario isn't even possible. considering the current number of party hats in game, still, basically the same amount of people would have them. if everyone had a party hat, i'd still say they look badass. they wouldn't be as big a status item, but still a classic example of badassery. Which is why I would never wear my Circus master hat because it is worth 0gp? The crown shuns you. :shame:

I've been 46-43 spec'd by a dds before in CW without holding the flag. Ever since that fiasco the DDs is better than the D mace in my eyes.

What Defines a "Boss Monster"?
Nice read. A boss in my opinion should fit all 5 categories you described. Tormented Demon in my opinion is the new strongest non boss monster. Whereas mithril dragon is now bumped to 2nd strongest. The scarcity of a boss is what makes it special. The Giant Mole is still a boss. It is a weak boss but a boss nontheless. Do not forget, many lower levels still look forward to the giant mole as a boss kill. It has a unique behavior in which it is able to teleport throughout its lair.

Is melee a buyable skill?
If I would rate the skills, I would group them into 3 category Non-buyable: Woodcut Fish Mining Hunting Semi-buyable: Melee Agility - Energy Pot Thieving Slayer - Cannon Farming - Mage/Palm seed Runecraft - ZMI Summon - Collecting charms takes time Pure buyable: Range Prayer Magic Cooking Fletching Firemaking Crafting Smithing Herblore Construction You can argue Range you still need to pay attention to drinking p pots, Prayer before pray-x needed clicking along with firemaking, and herblore takes prepping pots. Other than that, I would say it seems right. Construction takes clicking but the xp rate is just so fast it doesnt matter. Jagex's original intention for con was as a money drain anyways.

Is melee a buyable skill?
Collection skills arent buyable, other than that, every skill is buyable up to some point.
