  1. It seems that the majority of the people who play have really trended up here; the average player today is clearly a huge leap higher in terms of average combat / total level versus the average a few years ago. It makes sense, but the disparity of high levels leads me to think the game is on the back nine, so to speak.
  2. As you keep playing, you'll find that many of these skills have far greater earning potential. Additionally, some skills that cost money to level (prayer) can pay back on the other end due to their complementary benefits in activities like boss hunting. The entire Tip.It site is dedicated to helping you understand the game and all the ins and outs of leveling up, making money, etc.
  3. All demons are also weak to mage. While not a good use for cash, it's fun to mage/telegrab greater demons through the cage in the Watchtower dungeon.
  4. The slowest skill in the chain is still slayer, so use what you can to level that quickly. Iron Titan wins.
  5. One rune scim drop at fire giants will pay for a full task and then some using Torag's platebody. Barrows continues to be the most underpriced, underrated high level combat armor in the game.
  6. I've tried putting house / tree combos in both and it is MUCH faster to put the tree in Brimhaven with house in Relekka. For penguins, you win on both accounts. The Spirit tree in Brimhaven is more centralized than the house portal, which means a shorter average run to potential Brimhaven pengs. For the Relekka House Tele region, in exchange for faster access to Miscellania, you get faster access to Neitznot, Jaitzo, and Lunar Island (all common penguin spawns). For clues, you're better served with the Spirit tree in Brimhaven as it's right next to the Agility Arena (very common challenge puzzle). For farming, it's probably a push. Put the tree in Brimhaven!
  7. Hunter, congrats! The huge disparity between all of your narrow deaths and this absolute whomping certainly supports the thought that luck plays an inordinately large role here.
  8. Hunter, that's a brutal break. I feel like if you get him that close, he shouldn't be so condescending. Instead of "Pathetic", maybe "Phew, Gotcha!".
  9. I simply find that hard to believe. So Nomad: Never hit you with Wrath Spell Never hit you with his 98. Never hit you continuously to bring HP under 30? Every single video of the fight shows him going through the same attack pattern, which includes him using the 98 HP attack after 3 or 4 different styles. Every single person to have posted a video has been dropped to 1 HP. Except you, right? Then to say you can't "overcome" Avatar of Destruction is silly, because you have. Secondly, overcoming him requires only prayer, versus the complex attack of the Nomad. Third, their starting HP is the same, and the Nomad has a higher guaranteed HP if you disrupt Avatar's healing. Fourth, there is only one form of attack for the Avatar, which can be completely blocked. You can't AFK Nomad.
  10. Well, for starters, this is purely speculation. The designer who indicated there would be NO nerf was not exactly Andrew Gower. It's very possible he spoke out of turn and didn't have final decision on the matter. As we all know, once a statement by anyone with a gold crown hits the press, it is cemented into the annals of PrintScreen history. Again, there's also the chance I just crapped out a horseshoe and it's my imagination that he's way slower.
  11. Bump my question >_> Not for mining. I'm not sure about all the others.
  12. Well, bearing in mind that I'm comparing original nomad, and not the new trucking-through-sludge nomad, I still disagree with you wholesale. There is a -very- straightforward and uncomplicated method to defeat the decaying avatar. If there was a time limit, I'd agree with you, but you can either use protect melee with a few prayer pots and take a nap, or you can sit in a safe spot and wait ten minutes until the Avatar dies. Even if you're incapable of catching him before he gets the roots (as I was), he only heals three times. Annoying, yes, but to a player who has over 43 prayer, there is absolutely no risk of death. In fact, even if you -didn't- restock and fill your inventory before fighting the decaying avatar, you're sitll probably perfectly safe. On the contrary, Nomad can absolutely hand your face to you on a platter. Even now, slowed down, you need to understand his attack pattern, his attack style (mage based melee), and pick from a very limited array of weapons to hit him with (good luck with crush weapons, mage, etc.). You need to make use of summons to beat him, most likely have to run, and have to time up your healing plan effectively. Almost EVERYONE has met death at least once at the hands of Nomad.
  13. It's one of two resolutions, both of which I'm happy with: 1. Jagex tuned back a bit. He was still the toughest fight in Quest Cape history, but nowhere near the guy that served me up several plates of sliced Storm earlier this week. 2. Luck is simply a HUGE role in the fight. I seemed to hit a lot more Ruby (e) specs. If this is the case, it makes sense why so many people found him easier than I; with luck they woke up on third base and thought they hit a triple.
  14. NOMAD HAS BEEN NERFED!!!! Unconfirmed but eyewitnessed, I just came back from killing big ugly. Either I was -very- lucky, or, more likely, Jagex tuned him down a bit. It was way, way, way easier this time around. He still does all the same attacks, but his attack speed is significantly reduced. I easily had time to run away from his "feel my wrath" 75 HP attack, and his defense seemed grounded. I ran from his 75 once he started planting mines, and had time to sit and eat a sandwich by the time he fired. Gear: Ranger set, kharil's shirt and skirt, mind shield, fury, rune crossbow, ruby (e) bolts. 10 restores, 10 tuna taters, tort and remainder filled with sara brews. I sipped up on super defense and range pot before fighting; used eagle eye prayer and then protect melee when he went all crazy. I used the food first to make room for sara brews, and really barely touched the brews before he did his healing. I was really plowing through sara brews when he went berserk, but still had 5-6 four dosers left and didn't need the pony. The boss I just beat is CLEARLY NOT the same difficulty as the boss from days 1 and 2. I cannot stress this enough. Thank you for your attention.
  15. Perhaps not, but that also sort of reaffirms my point that the attacks are not something I'm making up. No, no, no. There is much more to it than that. The limitations are either -extremely- cost prohibitive (because frankly it's absurd to expect players to have 95 prayer / 89 Herblore / 96 Summon given current market costs), or hardware driven. My old computer can't really compete, and that's a problem. ...which I addressed in the original post. I've tried it three times: melee, range, and hybridized. I wasn't -even close- on any of them, and see no reason to bother. The large focus is on storyline: we assume more quests will build off this, and I won't be able to enjoy them, or learn more about the story, or have access to cool new updates that I won't see because I'm not a fast clicker. That's NEVER been the limiting factor for this game, and the fact that you didn't have to be fast differentiated this from so many other games. As I've said, if this weren't a central part of the continuing story, and instead was an optional element of the game, I'd be cool with it. But it isn't, and I'm not. This is a horrendously shortsighted and terrible update.
  16. Lucien is going to have 5000 HP and hit for 105 Damage every 6 seconds while he has a level of 999 and will be hit roughly once / ten attacks. Additionally, Jagex will make an update that unless you bring "shiny Barrows" that can only be constructed in your POH with level 99 construction, you can't enter his room. Additionally, Lucien will need to be poisoned with SUPERAMGWAESOM poison, untradeable and can only be made with 99 herblore. And he'll fly, with Chuck Norris clasped firmly in his talons. That'll show 'em.
  17. Den, When I speak of "little support", I'm not speaking of the tips/advice. There is an incredible abundance there, usually starting with "use soul split, turmoil, and overload potions...". I am referring to the fact that when someone opposes the view that it's a great idea to have a quest boss that is unavoidable who cannot be defeated by those without some combination of incredible skill, equipment, or luck, they are attacked wholesale. Qeltar, Read the thread if you -really- feel that it's a strawman argument to say that those who dislike this update are treated with scathing attacks. It's simple and selfish: if you were able to beat this, then it's not too hard and screw everyone else. It's the others who haven't been so fortunate that must be in the wrong. This argument of course has two faces in that you could posit that I would say the same; since I haven't been able to beat it then it must be too hard, but consider this update objectively. This is ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE more difficult than any other quest challenge before. It is not a simple step up from a boss from RFD, WGS, etc. This is a wholesale change in the expectations heaped upon players who wish to enjoy and continue exploring the central storyline of the game. Based upon the disappearance of Nomad at the end, it's safe to assume Jagex will build upon this update. The person who argued that this is nowhere near as difficult as the secret boss in KH makes my point for me. That is a SECRET boss, and not something core to the storyline. I have no problem with the difficulty of Nomad on his own, but to have him as a roadblock in the evolution of quests is outrageous. Were he on his own somewhere, like Bork, the Skeletal Monster, Corporeal Beast, KQ, KBD, etc., there would be no argument.
  18. The hidden horrible part of this quest is that it feeds into the general arrogance and selfishness of the runescape population. This quest is orders of magnitude more difficult than the next hardest quest, and yet those that squeak by can't wait to brag about not knowing what the whole fuss is about. It's absolutely insane. The few who stand apart to admit we are struggling are labeled as "trolls" because we disagree with the swift and unaligned expectation of a quest which totally changes the spirit of a game we've spent the last five years playing. And, naturally, there is little support, as anyone who's already beaten it can't wait to remind us of how obviously incompetent, unskilled, stupid, or just generally bad people we must be for disagreeing. To those struggling, the only thing more obnoxious than those that ignore the key points of the argument that this is a horrible update would be the people who only post to add how the boss is "actually quite easy" or no big deal. You just can't compete with abject, isolationist and indirect arrogance, I suppose.
  19. BIG difference: The Corp Beast after Summer's End is not part of the Quest Tree, and the one you kill in the quest does not require incredible skill heights. If there is something we are all missing that makes this quest manageable, fine. Great, grand, gravy. I don't think there is such a thing. I think Jagex just wanted to cater to those who crave combat, and disregarded the casual players (like myself) that do not engage in high stakes, at the expense of the Quest Cape they long ago earned the right to wear.
  20. Flame much? It is -nothing- like claiming I'm using a dial up connection; I'm using standard, modern equipment readily available. Runescape is a browser-based game, its very identity is rooted in the low barriers to entry of play. Additionally, I'm frustrated because this quest COMPLETELY CHANGES THE IDENTITY OF QUESTING. You ignore the entire basis of my post because it is not something you can argue.
  21. I'm convinced this is impossible on my touchpad laptop. I've resummarized my thoughts... The Quest Cape has long been a unique item in that it shows not the ability to grind out skills like other capes, but rather the lust for adventure and story progression. This quest -destroys- that concept, as anyone without a huge combination of nearly maxed skills, top-shelf equipment, and extensive boss combat experience has virtually no chance of finishing. Additionally, while many games may have had very little plot but still remained a challenging quest, Runescape has never been one of them. Typically, the more challenging quests also have very elaborate plot lines to support this challenge. While Guthix Sleeps, Desert Treasure, Mourning's End, Heroes, Legends, Swan Song, and the recent Blood Runs Deep all support this. The rich storyline DRIVES people to want to quest. Consider how you felt about Lucien during WGS... I wanted to personally hunt him down! Regardless of how powerful he may be, I was out for blood. Here... I don't care. SW is the worst combat minigame in all of Runescape. I had no idea who Nomad is, and still don't (nor do I care). Why do I want to keep fighting him? Simple answer: I don't. This quest is just WAY TOO HARD for something so anemic on storyline and relevancy to the main game. It has all the feel of trying to kill the Emerald Weapon way back in FFVII: it's fun to do, but definitely didn't belong as a central part of the game. My larger fear is that other quests will build off this abortion of an effort by Jagex. If there is a quest which comes out in the future where this quest is a prerequisite and there has been no modification to this quest to allow normal, touchpad computers to compete... expect my membership to be cancelled. I always wondered what that would take.
  22. Ruby e is an epic failure with brews. You simply take way too much damage and die too quickly. Additionally, the brews wreak too much havoc on your stats for you to land any hits. This quest either has a trick not yet discovered or requires extreme luck alongside nearly perfect technique. I haven't even come -close- to killing nomad yet.
  23. Hard to say, but I don't think so. At 92 magic I was getting hit so fast I couldn't attack. Just 20+ attack after 20+ attack; Sara Brews are NOT your friend here. This is my least favorite update in 5 years of playing. HORRIBLE quest. F.
  24. If you have an SGS, it's perfect there to keep your health up. If not, just keep a close eye on your health and be ready to pray range regarding the rock strikers. They can really put a hurt on you in a hurry. Yaks and Lava titans are extremely helpful there, as are obsidian golems.
  25. First question is where, and thats up to debate. If you have 85 mining, I'd still use the Light Temple. Sure, the ferocious ring won't work there, but the elf tele gives you super fast access and the spawning runite ore really makes the trips much more profitable. If not, use Kuradel's dungeon. As for gear, there are plenty of options. Lots of people use a combo of eating and prayer to kill dark beasts, but as a lazier folk I just use prayer and heal with SGS specs. If you have the SGS, this is a wonderful task to use it. If not, that's okay as well. Be sure to bring your Falador shield; whether you use a Godsword or not the Fally shield gives you a free prayer restore. If you -aren't- using a Godsword, it has the highest prayer boost in shield form this side of blessed sigil shields. As a prayer man, I wear typical prayer gear: proselyte top and bottom with skill cape and fury, d boots and slayer helm with barrow gloves and ring of wealth (which you may swap with a combat ring or fero ring, per preference). If you're going to hyridize eating to save money, maybe bring some barrows top/bottom to extend the non-prayer segments. At the risk of being obvious, if you plan to mine runite, bring a pickaxe! Inventory is simple; I have slayer ring in inventory to check progress, 7 or 8 four dose prayer potions, 2 super attack and 2 super strength pots. You may want some alch runes because they drop plenty of runite stuff, but I usually don't bother. They also drop plenty of blue charms, ranarrs, big gold stacks, and of course the elusive Dark Bow. Good luck!
