I played Travian for a bit.. but for me travian seemed to be a good hours work to get stuff set up, go to sleep, wake up and find you've been invaded by 2304798 people and had your village ruined and stuff taken. This is pretty fun (although I can see it will get dull.. 8 hours for an upgrade and I'm on the second out of eight ages >.>)

Yes DDR3 is a newer version. DDR2 is essentially phased out and so it would be silly to buy it now. Compatibility with CPU's is a separate issue though, it's more motherboard compatibility that is important. Shouldn't do. You'll be wanting 4GB anyway - and at $40, why not? 32bit only recognizes up to ~3.25GB RAM. More budget is always good, especially at lower tiers (up at the higher tiers it doesn't make much difference, but that's a separate issue). You'd be surprised at what the bare minimum can do now. Don't use this case. New cases are only like 20 bucks and anyway, your Dell case won't support ATx motherboards (my bet is that the dell case is BTx). Hard drives are cheap these days, and if you give us a budget we can easily factor in a 320 or 500GB HDD into your build. If your hard drive is so old, it is more likely that it will give out. Also, it may well be PATA which is ancient :ohnoes:

Yeah this. And also, excuse me if I'm wrong, but I see no CPU on that list. OP, I think you were asking before if you would have to format your external HDD, and that would be a no :) Your budget is incredibly tight - if you loosened your belt a tad you could get a much better system. Thing about windows is that it will take up about half of your budget by its self :/ I'm not sure about microsoft's policies about buying the OEM version, but it sure seems to be a lot cheaper ($100 on newegg). CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103903 $60.99 RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 $39.99 (underclock to 1333) Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130243 $49.99 Case/PSU bundle http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147099 $49.99 Optical Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 $20.99 HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145299 $38.99 TOTAL: $260.94 + Windows That's pretty much the minimum that I would deem acceptable. I've heard the name rosewell before and I think they're a fine brand, but we don't have that on this side of the Atlantic so I can't vouch for anything there.

Well thats great thank you, but as I said in my first post, I did not choose the option to ask him to take me with him, and now there is no way to get into the cart If you can talk to him, then you should be able to tell him those jokes.

It's a load of fun, but god are their servers/HTML5 slow -.-

Putting forward opinion of truth is one of many persuasive methods, and this is GCSE standard English that I'm referring to here. You seem to regard the British electorate as entirely stupid and unable to make decisions for themselves. For some this may be true, but I would think (hope) that a majority can decide what they want. Campaigns will sway their view somewhat, but they are not idiots who will be entirely brainwashed. Politicians lie. They don't always tell the whole truth. Live with it.

Fragmentation is the concept where individual files (take a word document, for example) are spread in different physical areas of the hard disk, so part A of the file could be on the opposite edge of the hard drive to part B. This means that the hard drive has to move to get this data, and then look around many other parts for fragments of one file. This makes files very slow to open. Defragmentation is where you bring these files back together into one physical location once again. It is very worth your time if you haven't done it recently. You say this is a new hard drive though, and unless you used an image to set the hard drive up, it shouldn't be too fragmented at all.

Yes some of the numbers were made up, but Politics in general is pretty much opinion and presenting opinion in a convincing way. AV promoting tactical voting is something that perhaps I can agree on, but something that you outright deny. That is called an opinion and we are all entitled to one and allowed to voice it. Politicians don't always tell the truth. That goes for any politician all over the world. Nothing you can do about it. You are only claiming that the vote was handled awfully because you didn't win it. What was wrong with it? It was a straightforward vote. Each person can vote for what they see fit. I can't see what more you want. If you're talking about how the campaigns went, specifically the NO campaign, then that is not anything to do with the act of voting and voting process its self. Politics is all about disguising things to make them seem better for your side of the argument, and making examples of people. That's just life. I also fail to see how people weren't voting for FPTP or AV. Surely those were the only 2 choices? You vote for whichever one you would personally like - that's the idea of voting. Whatever makes you like whichever options is totally irrelevant. What you want is what you want and no one can question or criticize your motives. You can disagree with them, but not say O YOU'RE WRONG. When you say 'on any other vote', what do you mean? What is so special about this vote? I sincerely doubt that any other country in the world gives a toss about how we vote and what we vote on. In what way were the NO campaign cheating the population? They were putting forward their collective view on AV, which was their opinion. They did this a lot more strongly than the YES campaign did. That's not unfair.

I've been spending my time making an adventure map. Currently has a 3 floor glass maze, and 2 puzzle mazes (i.e. redstone switches etc). I'm not sure if I can publicly post a download link - that's something I guess I'll have to ask an admin. PM me if you want the link though. [hide=Pics] [/hide]

Also, perhaps on item DB individual pages, there could be a search bar at the top for going to different items, rather than having to go back to the main page and search again? It can become a bit of a pain.

To be honest, any PM from any party would be unpopular now because of all of the cuts that have to be made to make up for the loss that Labour accumulated over their 13 years.
-
Yes the No campaign did tell a few lies, but I doubt the Yes campaign were exactly angels. I can't find examples right now, but I'm sure there are some. This is in politics, and in politics people often lie. I do think its a little extreme to say that Cameron compromises his position of leader by not telling a few people to stop lying. He is the prime minister, but he is also the leader of the Conservative party and so his views have to reflect theirs too.

This is pretty much my point to Danq - it's what you agree with, there is no real right and wrong answer. If there was we wouldn't even need a referendum.

You just stopped the country progressing into the 21st Century. We are now stuck with our old fashioned broken system. You just appear to be sour that there is one more person who is disagreeing with you and your opinion. Respect other peoples opinions and then people will respect yours. The problem is that a lot of the opinion is just misguided. AV is statistically better than FPTP. It is there to give a better representation of the view of the country, over a system which favours voting for a party which you do not favour as much. Many opinions are not taking into account the breadth of data out there, instead just looking at which party proposed it and the oppositions blatant lies in their campaign. I do not respect an opinion which is wrong just because the person refuses to look at the facts. I know this is wikipedia, but it sums up the facts quite nicely: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_instant_runoff_voting_to_other_voting_systems We are now stuck with a system which does not work as well as it should. We have passed the opportunity to create a greater democracy, a country where those in power would have more support than ever before and would possibly give them greater opportunity to lead the country instead of being second guessed all the time by the 70% of the population who did not vote for them in any way shape or form. This is your opinion and you are very well entitled to it, just as everyone else is also very well entitled to their own opinion. However, people should not be ridiculed for choosing the option which you deem unfit. What you think is ridiculous is what someone else thinks is amazing. And I ask you, if AV presents such an oppertunity to create a "greater democracy, a country where those in power would have more support than ever before and would possibly give them greater opportunity to lead the country instead of being second guessed all the time by the 70% of the population who did not vote for them in any way shape or form.", then why do only 3 other countries in the world use it? Surely if it is such a magical problem-solving solution than it would be widespread throughout the democratic world? I also find it convenient that you yourself haven't answered some of my, and others, main rebuttal and points put forward in the course of this thread. Of course you don't have to, but it would give your argument more credibility.

Now that voting is closed I'm anxious to hear the results.. This is really the first political issue I've really cared about, so I'm somewhat anxious.. It has the ability to change the method in which I vote in the next elections (that's assuming they don't call an early one.. ) Anyway yes, it was good to have a well thought out debate on something so close to home, as opposed to some of the issues I've previously talked about.
-
This really appears to be attempting change just for the sake of change. I guess we'll have to see what form the results take tomorrow.

OT: I would love to enter if I had any kind of pixelling talent. I might have a mess around in paint, but if it's no good don't expect anything from me :P

I've not had experience with that site, but I have also seen good stuff about it. That computer looks to be a great deal. I would go with this if you don't want to go with that other one I posted. Definitely do not go with that extra value one - extra value is synonymous with no-brand, which in turn is synonymous with awful.

Is it not working because it is sticky or because it just doesn't do anything when you press keys? You could attempt to take the keys off, which is possible on most laptops (although it is slightly risky - do it at your own risk), and have a look to see if there is anything obvious. You should definitely do what the above poster said before anything too drastic - let it dry out or even use a hairdryer on it. If all else fails, call up the manufacturer if you want to continue to use the onboard keyboard instead of a USB one. With laptops, there's not a lot you can do unfortunately.

You're right - installing windows again did nothing. I thought it was a RAM problem, what with safe mode using less ram than normal windows 7, and linux using lots of ram (I did try a live CD). Did a memtest, one ran for an hour and a half, but after doing another one it ran for about 5 minutes before freezing (But the cursor was still blinking, like that one for text input). I RMA'd the ram and got some Kingston which was verified to be compatible with the motherboard. Infuriatingly, this didn't solve the issue and it's still freezing. I tried the individual RAM sticks one by one in each memory slot and still got the same problem, if that helps. Unfortunately I have no AM3 or DDR3 motherboard to troubleshoot with.... This leads me to think it is a problem with the memory bus on the motherboard. It's going to be a pain to explain to the client, especially seeing as he's my friend..... oh well, nothing I can do about it. Do people agree this might be the problem?

By files, I presume you mean music. You can't take songs off an iPod using itunes or any apple software - they don't allow it. I doubt you'll find programs that will selectively rip from iPod, although I have no experience so you may well do. Here's a nice list courtesy of Google

I'm not sure if it's been announced in this thread before, but any news on the diamondseekers server?
-
Yeah if you are going to watch movies/TV on it then by all means go for the bigger one. Yep - I ordered parts for a friends computer off here and the service is great. RMA works well too :) And yeah, this.
