  1. riku, Amish people are pacifists - they don't make a point of killing people that offend them. This protest is actually quite a good idea for encouraging free speech, and is necessary in today's environment.
  2. This. Additionally, move the router to non-broadcasting, either buy a new one or use your current one with WPA2 as it's harder to crack, and change the password regularly - if nothing else it will frustrate whoever is using your bandwidth. Alternatively, you could get an ISP without download caps - I push ~700 GB a month through my connection and there are no extra charges.
  3. Where I live is pleasant, but boring. As a suburb of a larger town, crime is extremely low and schools are very good, but it's just not a terribly interesting place to live (at least compared to our summer house in San Diego CA). The town the suburb is attached to is very economically depressed, but it doesn't affect where I live much since most jobs here are in professional services and high tech manufacturing.
  4. while they are a little expensive - about 100 dollars or 75 pounds at current rates - bose's in-ear headphones are excellent. Aside from having great sound quality (nearly as good as my ~400 dollar molded set) service is excellent. While durability is not great (mine break about once every ten months from heavy use) every time they break bose replaces them for free and extends the warranty by another year. I have had a good 5 or 6 pairs of headphones because of this, and the entire RMA process takes about two days. Overall it's excellent to constantly have a fresh set of headphones.
  5. Mirror, they do, the fees mentioned here are only a supposition of what the late fee might be if the book was returned and that policy was not in place. Its more interesting then saying "George Washington owes the library 5$."
  6. Alienware is Dell - they have been a subsidiary of the business for several years. With that in mind, the laptop you pick depends heavily upon what your budget is and on what you use it for. Brands like ASUS and Toshiba are relatively cheap given the hardware packed into the chassis, but quality is often terrible as a result. On the other end of the spectrum is Apple, whose computers are very expensive but extremely well built and durable. Overall the current generation of Dell laptops have excellent build quality given their price, with HP a close second. Additionally, both companies' high end computers - the XPS line for Dell and the ENVY line for HP offer very good computers at a comparatively reasonable cost. Similarly, Sony makes good computers, but they compete with Apple IE expensive given their performance figures but with excellent build quality. The common claim that Dell's quality is terrible is outdated - several years back (in the 2003-2007 era) the founder of the business, Micheal Dell retired and was replaced by a career CEO who focused on cutting costs by doing things like outsourcing call centers to India, reducing computer build and component quality, and similar such practices. Dell lost substantial market share and as a result the founder Micheal Dell returned, firing the old CEO and in the process improving the quality of their products substantially.
  7. My goldfish turned 13 a few weeks ago. Even so, this entire story is rediculus. House arrest and a 1500 dollar fine is just plain stupid as a punishment for selling a goldfish to a minor.
  8. for that particular build you really don't need extra case fans. Other then that however everything looks compatible and able to complete the requirements you posted.
  9. Locked. Tip.it is not the place to advertise your website.
  10. This. Only occasionally do I ever get PMs from people disagreeing with locking decisions, but when I do the move is often reversed. we are people too - reasonable questions will be responded to reasonably.
  11. I agree, I have had good luck with all of logitech's products.
  12. A new motherboard for such an ancient computer would likley cost as much or more than a new one. Check dell and HP, they often have deals on towers for three hundred dollars or less that should work just fine as a basic computer.
  13. 9/11 is important not because of the physical damage the attacks caused (although that was terrible) but rather because of it's effect on the direction of the United States and the world as a whole. Before the September 11th attacks, the western world was still in a kind of post cold war daze - the evil empire was gone and to the average observer there was no major threats remaining in the world. Following the attacks however the world once again had a cause to rally around and a new threat to fear. Since the attacks, the central focus of American security concerns has been focused on terrorism and terrorism related problems.
  14. ~moved to runescape bugs and suggestions; this belongs there.~
  15. Military pay is completely tax free? I thought only the allowances were?
  16. I can tell you from experience that people in the top tax bracket almost never pay the standard bracket amount - a good accountant can make a ten million dollar profit look like a ten million dollar loss to the IRS legally. On average, you can expect to pay ~10% less then the advertised rate if you are in the top bracket, and if you do certain things (own a business for example) you can cut your taxes much, much further. Still, the tax system is highly unfair - a flat rate sales tax would be significantly easier to collect, it would not involve the invasions of privacy income taxes do and most importantly it would be fair. This is something that should be obvious, but many people don't seem to get it. Time and time again, states have raised taxes (to soak the rich as they call it) only to find their tax revenues from the top brackets going down. Why? people switch their official residences to places where they have vacation homes in order to exploit the lower taxes there.
  17. That cannot be it - his other account has no problems I can see, and this thread is not breaking any rules anyway so I see no need to conceal your identity. If you build a plane, while the actual frame will be easy to build, the airfoil shape of the wings will be difficult to achieve, and making control surfaces out of legos (such as flaps, areolons, the rudder, slats etc) will be nearly impossible - forget about a working engine.
  18. While there is slight differences in the sound reproduction of MP3 players, the differences are so small as to be irrelevant to a regular user. First of all, if you use anything less then a lossless audio source such as FLAC, you won't be able to tell a difference (which are much less common then lossy formats such as MP3). Second, you need a VERY high end sound system for any differences to be discerned - earbuds or headphones just can't do it. I have personally tested an ipod against a friend's Cowon player, and even with a 500 dollar pair of Shure E5C buds there was no difference - to be able to identify ANY difference at all, I had to plug the players into the ~5,000 dollar Alpine system in a car. The Ipod sounded better. With good speakers and a good recording you shouldn't NEED to play with any equalizer settings - when the music was created it was adjusted as the artist wanted it to be. The on-board equalizer on just about any mobile player is designed to help compensate for low quality earbuds.
  19. The ban will almost certainly be overturned in a higher court. The circuit court of eastern Texas is famous for favoring the plaintiff in patent cases.

    School

I start on the 27th, and its very meh. I have always found school boring, although occasionally.... interesting things can happen.
  21. unlimited internet access will be practically impossible on 50 bucks a month - even the cheapest plans with unlimited access start at around 100 bucks. As to phones, with the internet only smart phones are really good for surfing. For that, the Iphone is the gold standard (it will work on Tmobile but you will need to unlock one) but I have heard certian other phones like the palm pre are not bad either.
  22. Such things do not happen "often" - an insurance company refusing to fulfill their contract with their customer is extremely rare. Most arguments come up when people want to try new experimental treatments that have no record. (treatments not available in the first place). It's illegal in the US to discriminate against people due to genetic problems - you can't be denied insurance or have your premiums increased. I saw the commercial, and I laughed at it; knowing that it's true. My aunt is a doctor, and when she moved to Canada temporarily a few years ago she was ALWAYS complaining about the system up there - times to see many types of specialists were insane, on the order of six months or more, with similar problems for the use of equipment like MRI's.
