Range or mage is the best (you don't need food or prayer pots) I've always used fire bolt with chaos gauntlets from family crest. But I often see people there with crossbows of sorts. Just bring your Anti-dragon shield and some anti-fire potions and you're good. Don't forget the woodcut axe and the 850 coins(something like that) to get it.
