  1. Thanks, I found it. It's on the western side, and says "Enter Dungeon" I think. I didn't notice it at first because it didn't look like the different doors to the rooms all around. Well, that was a waste of 20 minutes.
  2. So, I got through several dungeons soloing by just entering the free-for-all room. Now, I try that, and nothing happens. I just sit in that room. Is there something I'm missing? I tried setting up a party for just myself, but there's no "start the dungeon" button on the party interface. What do I do after I choose the complexity and floor? Thanks!
  3. Warning: if you haven't played the Christmas Event of 2009, there are spoilers for it ahead. I play Runescape on my lunch hour at work. I used to play it during free time and some late nights in college, but the latest I stay up anymore is around 10 pm. So, I have a small window with which to do whatever it is I feel like doing in Runescape each day. I pretty much have to do holiday events as soon as they come out, because I want to be sure to finish them before they expire. Also, I'm F2P, and always have been. That being said, why the heck was the Christmas event filled with other people??? I went through the entire thing today, though just barely finished it in time to get back to work. I had a little bit of a problem with lag; that I can understand, though it was most certainly caused by the large amount of people all doing it at once. But the thing that annoyed me most was just trying to get started in the first place. I was supposed to talk to a snow imp. Well, guess what, there were at least 300 snow imps wandering around who were too busy to talk to me. I wandered around the new area for a bit, and talked to the camel and the goblin generals. I was curious why the tent was empty aside from people and their imps. I finally got annoyed enough to try to ask people what to do, but no one offered advice to people asking for help in the feast area. Finally, someone who wasn't talking to me said something about the tent, so I investigated the tent again. I found Benny only by right-clicking on different places and talking to each snow imp that was there. My frustration was finally somewhat relieved. Then, I went to Scourge's house. I talked to Santa, was warned about doing a bunch of stuff, and made my way around the bottom floor twice before I decided to check out the room with the couch and chairs a bit more. Again, someone randomly said to right-click in front of the couch, and I finally found Scourge buried under snow imps, and was able to advance the quest a bit. I found the items that Benny suggested rather easily, and wisely decided to keep everything I found. Then, after doing the ghost thing, I went and talked to everyone around the edges of the feast tables. I found two partygoers, Tiny Thom, the goblins, the cook, and was stuck again. So, I decided to check out the tent again, and found the Snow Queen, again only by right-clicking the piles of people and imps. Quest is advanced again. I figured out the rest of the quest on my own without too much trouble. I really want to say: why wasn't the entire quest open for me only? Jagex has made other holiday events which show only you on the map; thousands of other people may be in the same area as you are, but they each have their own "instance" of that area. If that had been the case, I would have only had frustration trying to figure out who to dump ice water on. As it was, I was very lucky to be able to guess or be told where to right-click to find the right people to talk to. I didn't even get to enjoy seeing the avatars of the snow queen or Scourge, since they were always covered by people and imps. To be perfectly honest, it was one of the most frustrating holiday events I've played because of it. And I've played just about all events since September of 2005. Other events had more difficult puzzles, or more to do, but this one was frustrating because of something that I had no control over, and could not figure out based on logic. The hordes of people and imps that blocked the people you need to talk to simply took the fun out of it.
  4. Great. MORE P2P quest / content / skill usefulness / items. If Runescape is the most popular free to play MMORPG, as they said on their website, then you'd think they'd have more quests, content, skills, and things to do with those skills for F2P players than they have now. As a F2P player my entire Runescape career (about 3 years now), I appreciate the recent changes to add some minigames (ANY minigames!) to the list of things to do as F2P, and some more gear to what F2P players can use. And certainly doing away with RWT made nearly all the macros go away, which leads to it being much easier for F2P players to mine and chop trees. But it still bugs me that there's such a great disparity in what F2P players can do, where we can go, and how much we can store in the bank compared to P2P players.
  5. Hmmm, thanks for the suggestions... I like the idea about def boost prayer and protect prayer at the same time. It wouldn't work well without the symbol I bet.
  6. I've got a prayer level of 60, overall combat level is 94. I'm trying to figure out if, when defending only (say playing Fist of Guthix) it would be better to keep my ammy of power on or to use a blessed holy symbol? One thing I'm not sure about is what a prayer boost will do. Will it only keep it going longer, or will it make it "stronger", as in lower the damage dealt when a protect prayer is on? I'm F2P by the way. Thanks.
  7. Thanks, I'll try those out next time I go up.
  8. Could someone tell me the best way to get to the Rune ore spot in the wild? I've tried several times to get there without running into revenants, and they seem to be everywhere. Even wearing dragonhide doesn't seem to help much against their very long range magic attacks (said the person used to F2P monsters). Anyway, a map would be very helpful, but I'll take any advice I can get. Thanks.
  9. I think the new updates are great. If real world trading is a big enough problem that they're making all these updates, and are willing to risk losing a lot of players because of it, then RWT must be a HUGE problem. And it's better to deal with the problem rather than let them run the game. More F2P bank space! Woot! I can finally keep my zombie outfit so I don't keep getting the boots and shirt over and over... trying to level prayer was so annoying. The annoying thing is, when the grand exchange first came out, I was using it to get rid of some stuff in my bank... so I had more space already :x
  10. I'd join in, I'm a big Tip.it fan, but I've got plans this afternoon and only just read about it. That and I'm married, and my wife gets home from work at 2 today.
  11. The point is, the grand exchange should be the medium to sell items at around the market value. So, general stores do NOT need to do the same thing; we have the GE now. Thus, general stores should go back to the old system of selling things cheaply if there are many of them, and buying and selling at less than the market values. If you've played Runescape for any amount of time, you know the general stores aren't the best place to sell things; let's keep it that way, and make the grand exchange the place to sell things. (The rest is kind of a rant; sorry if it doesn't belong) What's the point of a general store now? There's no point in buying anything from it, since it seems to sell at "average market prices" and you can get stuff cheaper at the grand exchange. It used to be a place to dump stuff you don't want (for less than it's worth) and buy stuff at less than its worth if there's a lot of them. Now... the general store is only good for dumping stuff you don't want, at much less than the "average market price". The problem is, now you can sell those things at the GE for slightly less than the "average market price". It just isn't fair, if you sell something to the store for 800 gp, then the price of it to buy from the store is 1500 gp, while the bounds in the GE are probably like 1000-1200 gp. It makes absolutely no sense, and it was at least nice for people who don't want to PK to be able to get stuff cheaply now and then from the store. It isn't ripping someone off if they sell an uncut gem to the store while its market price is much higher; it's their choice. As they play the game more, they'll learn, and either just drop the gems if they don't want them or sell them or use them to make jewelery. It seems like the general store price change is either Jagex trying to baby people more, or else them trying to make us spend our hard-earned gold pieces on common things instead of over-priced rares.
  12. I agree... Send a mod to the bot hotspots, and wipe em all out. I've been close to a wood cutting level for a while, but I can't stand how slow it is to chop yews when there's like 15+ bots on each world.
  13. I used to talk with a guy whose rs name was wraithsvigil. Haven't seen him online in about a year.
  14. I hate it when people do that, if you're going to report a macro just report them. DON'T spam the chat with 10 messages, spamming is rulebreaking aswell you know. But it isn't spamming if you give them a chance to reply and do it over the course of 2 minutes. And it's only fair to give someone a minute or two to respond before reporting them. I'm very annoyed at bots; I've stopped yew cutting altogether because it just isn't worth it when there's usually 10 bots on every level.
  15. I would like to see Tipit updating more frequently to follow the official Runescape site. There's updates there from the 22nd, today is the 26th, and the last update to the Tipit site about official Runescape news is from the 16th. I just remember when the Tipit site was just as good a place to look as the official Runescape site for news because it would update within hours of new information. So, aside from commenting on and forwarding official Runescape news, I'd vote for marketplace prices updated more frequently. And when was the forum "price check" last updated? It seems the same as when I played a year ago, but I know things have changed since then (could just be the sections I look at).
  16. I'd agree that the guy has a lot of patience, but... sad to say, the reason that macroing works is because once you learn what you're doing, it's just clicking in the same spot 100 million times. Sure you get the occasional random event, and I'm totally against macros, but still, the reason I don't play very much lately is because of the monotony of it. And I don't want to spend the money on becoming a member :).
  17. Good guide; I've basically been doing this for a while. You tend to steamline when getting to 79 smithing as F2P. One thing I'd add is that if you hold down the ctrl key when you click to move, you will run. Thus, you can save time by not having to go back and forth to different screens turning run on and off with light or heavy loads. Only found that out after playing for about a year, so it probably isn't too well known.
  18. This would ban many people needlessly. Just about all schools, colleges, and companies have internal networks, and don't actually "own" IP address for each and every computer hooked into the sub-network. So, just a few IP addresses will be seen from the outside world, with many ports each. A router at the college connected to the sub-network will then interpret and remember which port is assigned to each computer in the sub-network. Does that make sense? Probably not. To confuse things more, it's worth noting that the current method of sending data over the Internet, using IP version 4, would've run out of IP addresses a few years ago if it weren't for the method of having one IP address with many ports on the front end for many computers in a sub-net. Some ISP's do that too, so it's not just college students (like me) who would be affected by a "only one account per IP address!" rule.
  19. My best was probably selling a brown apron for 100k... I guess the guy really wanted it. Recently, my best deal was being in Lumbridge store at the right time. Someone sold rune ore to the store, so I bought 20 for 3200 each. (sold already :) ).
  20. Just had one tonight, at the Al Kharid smelting furnace. Spoken by a level 41 noob: "Can you smith coal for me?"
  21. I do stuff on the Internet -- look up car sites, electronic deals sites, forums (like this), browse news sites... Also, watch TV, listen to music, watch movies, calculate how much _____ I need to get to the next ______ level (especially ores -- mining, smithing -- or combat skills xp). I used to talk to people on rs, but since I wasn't on over the summer (being home, on dial-up, away from my beloved college high-speed network), several people aren't on anymore. I do talk to people in real life sometimes, depending on who's around. Our dorm room is a pretty fun room, so we get people stopping in often. But, I think this post is long enough, so I'll stop :)
  22. I think that F2P seriously needs more bank space. Add me to the petition. I don't know if anyone mentioned what I'm going to say (sorry, I don't have time to read 14 pages of posts), but adding more space would help solve rule breakage of drop trading or trading to extra acccounts just for more bank space. And, there are more than 100,000 free players logged in at a time on busy times. I think we give Jagex enough ad money that they should think of us and give us more bank spaces. They wouldn't keep F2P around if it didn't bring in money... we're worth something to them, they should make it worthwhile for us to stick around. From what I hear, though, members can't keep everything either. They, however, should thank their lucky stars that they have so many other, cooler items.
  23. OK, someone else posted between my hitting "reply" and actually typing out and posting the reply, so I want to make one thing clear: Anyone who thought I said to ban all people with low combat but high non-combat skills is an idiot! No offense, but I said I also said later Thus, if you reply to a post without reading it fully, I think you're an idiot. Again, no offense. I said ONE SKILL is really really high, not all non-combat skills. For all those who thought I said to ban all people with low combat but high non-combat skills, PLEASE read my original post and my previous post, because you apparently didn't read them to begin with. I'd appreciate it. And by low combat... Again, what did I say before? I said "1/20" (probably should've been 1/10, but that's ok). Anyone who can do math will realize that, if your one and only skill that's above like 5 is at say 99, then 1/20 of 99 is about 5. Again, please read before you post. Sheesh.
  24. thanks for the constructive criticism. that's sarcasm if you don't realize. Please, don't be hatin. I don't want this topic to get locked after a few hours for so many flames. First, I suggested banning people who ONLY have 1 skill developed. This is based on the assumption that people are people -- you WILL get bored if you only work on one skill and that's it. If one skill is 60-90, and all other skills are less than 5, the chance is only like 1 in a 1000 that it's a real person, not an autoer or person with multiple accounts. If all you do is one skill on the game all the time... maybe you should be banned, and go outside and do something else. No offense. And, it IS against the rules to have multiple accounts. If you don't like it, don't play the game. Jagex owns the game, they make the rules. You're the one who agreed to the rules when you signed up. I don't know how many people they really ban for multiple accounts, drop trading to other accounts, or whatever, and I'm not saying they should ban everyone who breaks any rule any time. However, I do think that secondary accounts, if they get really strong in one skill, make it unfair, IF you do free trading between accounts. If your accounts never interact, my personal opinion is that it isn't all that bad. Have you been chopping yews southwest of Falador lately in the free worlds? If there's any amount of people on, there's going to be several level 3's and 4's chopping. Do you know how frustrating it is to be a level 85 combat and compete with level 3 combat but level 60+ woodcutting for yew logs? Yes, my original post was one that was posted in frustration, but ** I only posted an idea, a general guideline ** Maybe it should've gone in the rant section, but I for one would be verrrry happy if Jagex enacted it as it is anyway. Maybe they can alter it some, I'm not the CEO there, but I think it's a good idea. And you know what, if you don't like it, your favorite band stinks and your political ideals are all wrong :). Seriously, this is why I rarely post on message boards, cause it so often degrades to "you're stupid" as a certain someone said.... Can't we have an intelligent conversation? Oh, and posting only 3 sentances is proof that someone didn't think before posting, moreso than a couple people disagreeing with what you post. I heard the term "yewb" from someone else who was actually a real person chopping yews with me one time.
  25. I don't know who termed it, but the term "yew noob" or "yewb" fits perfectly for many characters. Every time I try to chop down yew trees, there are several level 3 or 4 characters also chopping. My suggestion is to simply ban all characters with level 60+ in 1 skill, but with a combat level of less than 10. The reason is, that character is most likely used just as an autoer, and thus should be banned because it's REALLY hard to chop yew trees when there are 5 or 6 level 3 choppers felling them before you can get 3 logs. Additionally, if it is a real person playing and not an autoer, chances are 99% likely that this is his secondary account, perhaps his "mining only" account. So, all he does is mine on that account, and then trade the ores to his main account, where he gets great smithing. I've heard of people doing this to take a level 3 into the wild to mine rune with less chance of being PK'ed. But, this also is against the rules and thus should be banned. Therefore, any character with a combat level which is like 1/20 as high as one skill, and only one skill is high, should be banned, because they're either an autoer or a multiple accounter. Leave the high level mining and chopping to people who actually play the game themselves and follow the rules!
