  1. I have an issue (one of many) with the word "fair". Very rarely is life ever fair, we just have to deal with whatever comes before us. Make the most of the "RS rest time" in school and out of school and just see what happens afterwards. As someone said earlier, you may find that you don't want to come back. You may find that you go into withdrawl from not being able to play, in which case it's probably for the best (not saying you're adicted to RS, but you might be and not realise it :-$ ). But just take advantage of the change. You just never know what good can come out of something 'bad'.
  2. I've got to agree with the first letter. Even though players can have different ideas on what to do, the Jagex staff are doing their best and aiming to deliver what they believe is best for the community. There may well be the odd staff member who is in it for power over people, but I doubt there would be many. I also don't think that Miniclip advertising was overall a bad move for Jagex. I joined through Miniclip and I am nowhere near a youngun. Sure, the influx of younger players may have been higher, but if it's going to grow the whole community, then it's good for RS as a whole. Also, it's interesting that RS no longer shows on the front page of Miniclip ... but people are still joining. It has a persona of itself now.
  3. I think Jagex are also very concerned about email spoofing and phishing, so are unlikely in any immediate timeframe to implement email verification processes. I like this idea, but it's a bit overkill. Just max the amount of gold to be traded on its own to 1k. Would also affect people trying to help each other out with loans/gifts, but they'll get over it =; P.S. - If not immediately obvious, I am joking ...
  4. Another tack to this (if my understanding is correct, don't flame me if I'm wrong), if they have to perform a rollback, you get your xp rolled back to your last log off prior to the rollback. So if you had been playing fo 24 hours straight and they rolled back 10 minutes, you go back to 24 hour old xp. Would be useful to have some way to prompt people to log off just to update their progress. Anything else is up to the player (and their parents if they are a young-un) to manage.
  5. I'd probably fix the servers when they break ... which is what I'd be paid to do. But then try and get involved in some of the content idea discussions, because I have all sorts of great ideas that I'm sure no one else has ever thought of :-w
  6. Will you be giving me 2 bil gp or 1.99 bil gp? I don't mind which. More seriously, I'd want to know what plans he has outside of RuneScape (new games or other future endeavours).
  7. To an extent I agree with you. We don't deserve updates and F2P should NEVER demand updates. All that does is, as you have said, appear rude and ungrateful. People who act like that taint the whole of F2P (much like the P2P ranters taint P2P). If Jagex deem F2P to be an important part of the RuneScape landscape, then there are some justifications for some minor updates such as a little more bank space. As I have said in earlier posts, I don't expect it and would never demand it, but I can see some justifications. But if Jagex don't really deem it that important, they have no need to update it. At most, we should only say "It'd be nice if we could have a little more bank space", and then get on with playing with what we have. It might mean we need to think more about how we train ... might make some people smarter :-s
  8. Whether or not your muting was justified or not, allowing clan chat defeats the purpose of a mute, which is to indicate that certain ways of talking are inappropriate and doing so will make game life more difficult. Personally I think there should be layered muting, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, forever. And I don't think you should be able to go to permanent mute without first going through 6 month mute. I'd think most people would smarten up after 6 months (or have quit) or be deserving of permanent mute.
  9. Talk about a thread that goes all directions ... I am F2P, probably will be forever. I'd like the extras of P2P but can't justify the cost based on how often I play. I don't expect any updates ever. When voting on the poll, I was thinking about what Jagex was after. I'd be guessing that there are discussions going on within Jagex about what to do with F2P ... does it make sense to keep it? Members often talk about F2P as a demo. I'm not convinced that it is really a demo. Sure, it's a limited-functionality view of the game, but it is also it's own microcosm that has important effects into the members game. Ignoring autoers for a little while, F2P buy and sell into P2P pretty often. Without many F2Pers, P2Pers will find the game more difficult (e.g., buying or selling 10k coal). The F2P game is also a critical feeder for new members. Who would have become a member if they couldn't try F2P first (a few, but not a huge number). The options available to Jagex from this poll are: 1) Do nothing, leave everything as it is 2) Time-bomb the F2P game (e.g., 100 hours ingame time) 3) Level-bomb the F2P game (as suggested earlier, max lvl for all skills) 4) Dump F2P completely Given that the F2P game breaks even (i.e., ads cover server and running costs), I think that any change would be detrimental long term to their business. And just to cover off the whole F2P updates debate, the only times F2P should get updates are when the update: - would be used by members on F2P worlds pretty often - assists in protecting the users (Stronghold, etc) - is basic graphical changes (also relates to the next one) - is too hard to separate between P2P and F2P Any other updates that F2P do get should be limited to old-P2P updates rather than brand new ones (e.g., blue wizard skirt, next bow up level, etc). And I don't think they should give us more bank space right now, although I suspect they might do it when/if they redo the bank interface.
  10. Good luck with giving up the ciggys. If F2P was truely a demo only, then I'd tend to agree. However if it is truely a demo, then they may as well time-bomb it. After 100 hours of playing you either go member or don't play anymore. No, I think F2P is more than just a demo. It is an important part of the RS landscape both to Jagex and P2Pers. If that was not the case, then they wouldn't have bothered moving the party room, wouldn't bother allowing F2Pers to clan chat, etc. It is a break-even system whereby a number become members because they want more of the game, but also part of many P2Pers gamelife, be it merchanting, PKing, or something else. Do we 'deserve' anything ... possibly not. Do I expect more bank space ... no. However I can see some justification for it to happen, but not just for the sake of it. Part of a bigger change, not just because there are people who will constantly ask. Oh, and it isn't completely about random clothing, that's just the easiest example to use. The ultimate question is How important do Jagex see F2P is in the greater scheme of the game? Obviously important enough to keep it going (for now ... wonder why the F2P poll came out?? Seeing if it is really worthwhile to continue?????) how do u know that ftp will be able to clan chat? but imo, ftp is important to get people to join members, not to keep ftpers playing. and giving ftp more bankspace would incurage more people to stay ftp and not join members. There was a comment by a Jmod on RSOF saying that clan chat will be F2P, so unless that is wrong, F2P will be able to clan chat (since many members will do clan events on F2P servers). F2Pers never consistently become members at the same stage. Therefore, any F2Per is always a potential member, even a level 126 might become member one day. And as I said in an earlier post, I don't think there will be many F2Pers becoming members just to get more bank space. Sure there will be a small percentage where that is the driver, but members is more than just more bank space. Just to reiterate my main opinion (as a F2Per): I don't think Jagex should go out of their way to give F2P more space, but if/when they redevelop the bank interface, I suspect F2P will get more space.

  12. I think that Jagex just hate you and have a special negate-defense shadow over you. But seriously, I've noticed over the last number of hours at Varrock mossies, that during one login they hit more often while another they hardly ever hit. I have absolutely no proof, but I am sure that drops and hit calculations must have some date/time factor built in ...
  13. Thus we empy half of our bank. I agree with me too ... but I'd like to extend the thought a bit, partly in response to: The Diango/NPC storage option should be a cut down version of the costume room storage. Even if he only stores one set of random event costumes, that could save 3 - 5 spaces for a F2P or P2P (without finances for a POH). This sort of change wouldn't just benefit F2P and wouldn't devalue the POH storage.
  14. Unfortunately I don't have the time to read all 15 pages (but did read page 1 and 14/15). I've only ever been F2P and have had bank space issues. In the end, I have had to be a bit smarted about how I train so that I don't have things sitting around unused. An example is I just burnt 899 willow logs that were there for a while (and it got me 9 levels!). The worst thing is I had to drop my full zombie and will probably have to drop cammo or mime sometime soon. The Jagex solution to bank space on members is to provide more storage inside POH's for armour/random event clothing/tools/etc. This is all fine and well but doesn't really help F2Pers at all (probably intentionally). Since the benefits of being a member is way more than just more bank space, I don't see how adding bank space to F2P would actually stop people from becoming members. I wouldn't expect anyone to pay $5 a month just for more space. My personal opinion is that F2P will get more bank space when/if Jagex redevelop the bank interface. Not a lot more, but a bit. Either that or the ability to store random event clothing with Diango or another NPC.
  15. As with all updates, some will hate, some will love, some will 'meh'. I am amazed though, that people are judging it without seeing it, but judging on performance in other areas. It's like saying that the next Mac OS will be bad because the iPhone has a touch screen. Maybe it will be bad, or great, or meh, but only in it's own right. I suspect one of the reasons for the 25-Jun-07 poll was to see if they can get away with increasing the game window size. I'd guess that it's currently assuming minimum resolution of 800x600. Increase that to 1024x768 and you'd be able to put friends/clan chat on the side (as an example). There's a lot on the screen already and I think it would be good to be able to bump it up a bit. When did they first mention they were going to work on clan chat? They have no doubt gone through a huge process to come up with something that is effective yet developable, largely based on a lot of functionality found in IRC. I'm hoping that the Development Diary to be released will be the Clan Chat Diary. That would be interesting reading.
  16. No one has mentioned ... Don't the Elves sing to the crystal see to form a bow or shield ... [/equally arbitrary interpretation of the sentence in BTS]

    RS 3D

If RuneScape was redone as a FPS in 'true' 3D, then it wouldn't be RuneScape anymore. If anything, I reckon they might do a new game with better graphics and some similar gameplay to RS2. Not being able to play RuneScape from any java enabled computer would be bad! I play America's Army as well as RuneScape as the gameplay and level-up scheme is quite different (you've actually got to be relatively ok to actually level up, rather than just click the mouse) - the team aspect is quite nice. Got to be careful though, as sometimes you can fall through the floor to your death ... some buggy maps ... pretty funny though.
  18. That's right. Quests are designed to use the full spectrum of skills. What has been the case in the past is that Jagex have tried to use monster levels ("Muse be able to kill a level 120") to define combat skill requirements. That obviously hasn't worked in various cases, so they have now begun to put actual level requirements on. Doesn't affect me directly ... but I think it is good for the overall game.
  19. I'd suggest that this is essentially an "update by default". Jagex re-did Seers. As part of that, they probably thought "that's not a good place for the party room ... where shall we put it?". "Hey, let's put it in F2P". It is exactly the type of update that, in my mind, is justifiable to go to F2P. It's something that has been P2P for quite some time and doesn't provide any demonstrable benefit to the core of the game. Or put another way, P2P isn't disadvantaged any by moving it. Apart from the bank space debate, an relatively minor update like this every year is the most I could ever reasonably expect (since we are generating some level of revenue for Jagex by ad views). I don't ever expect Jagex to put extra effort into a new F2P update. OFF TOPIC: Bank Space debate - so that people don't go off on that topic, I'd just like to say that I don't think F2P would ever get any more bank space until if/when Jagex re-do the bank interface. For me, it'll be nice if we could have more, but we have no "right" to demand it.
  20. I have never been scammed by a friend ... I have no friends! :boohoo: But seriously, the worst I've seen is giving a rune battle axe and 100k to someone I had just met (was in a generous mood). Few days later he goes PKing and loses full rune. Not going to give him that much again ... although I'm sure I'll be randomly generous again someday. Unfortunate that you can't trust anyone now. There ARE trustworthy people around. Pity it's so difficult to prove if you are trustworthy.
  21. Surely surely surely Jagex log failed attempts to login, and surely surely surely they would IP block brute force password attacks. It's a sensible and logical thing to do, even for only 30 minutes as it would be a sufficient deterrent. The guys at Jagex aren't stupid, so I'd suggest they have good protection against this. If you are going to put that much effort into hacking a site, there are much better candidates than a game site! Plus, you're more likely going to succeed with distributing a keylogger, or trying a SQL insertion attack to pull username and password information out of their database (betca it wouldn't work as well). Untimately, if you get hacked, it's because you did something, not because there is some issue with the "RuneScape system".
  22. I gotta agree with this. I first went to the monster name which didn't do anything :( . The monster name also gives a much bigger target. Looks great though. Personally I wouldn't include the links at the very bottom as well, even though it'd be very simple to do. It just bloats the page and if you can click on the name/dot inmap, then people wouldn't miss the list.
  23. No F2P New Zealander??? Sad as it is, you could add me. Hopefully it'd prompt someone higher to step up. EDIT: Total level 783.
  24. Disclaimer: I have never played PC, probably never will. Couldn't even if I wanted to! Seems to me that people are complaining a lot about PC because they can't win the same way they did before. Sounds like exactly the purpose of the update. Teams that are losing a lot are likely not adjusting tactics to fit the new system. Give it a few weeks for people to adjust their tactics and you'll probably find that efficient teams would be able to reach prior exp levels (at least in boat 3). Remember that it is a minigame and that for a low-risk minigame, you shouldn't expect significant rewards. Barrows you get great rewards, but the risk is huge; Castle Wars (low-risk) you get decorative armour; BA you get ... ok, let's leave out BA. The point, it's supposed to be first fun, then secondly have some form of reward. Hopefully this update means more people will enjoy the game for strategy than just running to kill 4 portals. Remember that Jagex do not set out to try and mess up the game. Their intentions are always to improve the gameplay and there will always be a riot for major changes no matter what they do. I'd be interested to see the Development Diary for this update ... I'd bet it started at least 9 months ago.
  25. If anything, I'd suggest that the person (or type of person) would dictate what sort of character someone would create. Therefore the original account and the way they communicated may have been different to how they normally would have been ... probably because multiple skilling takes time and can be a lot of waiting around, so lots of chat time.
