How big is your case? If it's a small form/compact case you might have some trouble. I'm not sure what HP's cases are like, but when my Dad bought a Dell desktop with the release Windows 7 last year (and to haters, yes it's running fine without problems), you can't get into easily at all. You'd have to unscrew the metal panelling, and even then there's not a great deal of room inside. If it's got a bigger, easy to open case it shouldn't be too much hassle, it doesn't hurt to get someone to help if you're not sure what exactly to do though (find a friend who knows a bit about computers, buy him a pizza/beer and ask him to do it for you :P). If you do get a new PSU, do NOT get a cheap one. They can break and cause you a lot of unnecessary hassle. You won't need a really powerful one, 300 or 350W should do just fine. In terms of what graphics cards you can get, I'd suggest either ATI's 5570 or 5670. I know that the 5570 has a very low power consumption (38W or something). There isn't much point getting anything more powerful than either of these cards, as your Processor/RAM will bottleneck performance. The 5670 will give better performance, but consumes a bit more power, and will cost extra. When I last checked, price wise the 5570 is $80, and the 5670 $95. Neither of these should need a power connector. I'm not a big fan of MW, but I have a Mobility 5650 in my laptop (somewhere between the two), and that runs it fine at 1600 x 900, with stuff on high and 2x AA.

It seems MS are finally getting their act together, sort of. I'm content to stick with Firefox though. Greasemonkey is too useful, and I can't find anything that beats the safety offered by NoScript.

I'd do a scan with whatever anti-virus program you're using too. It would also be worth doing a scan with Malware bytes too imo.

I use a combination of Avira and Malware bytes, does me just fine. MSE or Avast are also reasonable choices though. @Y_guy: I used to have Norton back in 2008, and it made TF2 completely unplayable on a machine which more than met the requirements for the game (fps would drop off dreadfully and eventually the game would crash). After I removed Norton? It ran TF2 on highest settings without a problem. I rest my case.

I'd just make sure your software is up to date, Firefox has an inbuilt updater (Help > Check for updates), and I believe Java should update automatically too, but if not you can check the website or try software update. If that fails you could try clearing out the rs cache. What graphics card does your mac have anyway? Also, a lot of PC stuff is relevant to Macs as well, so there isn't really a need for "Hurr durr, well Idk cause PC".

That's a really nice epic build that I'm sure many people here would die for, but I really don't envy your electricity bill. Especially with those Tri-SLI 480s. :v

@funion987: What types of games do you want? If you want a good online FPS, TF2 should run fine on that hardware (as will pretty much all other Source engine games). @Scully_SC: Mass Effect if you haven't played it already :thumbup:

No. Providing you're not letting it overheat or anything, it won't damage your PC anymore than if it was just on and idle (not at all basically).

Finally got round to uploading my first proper dupe (the others I did were frankly [cabbage]). This one is a wired steam boat I made entirely out of vanilla props (possibly one or two EP1/2 ones in there), originally using gates, but I later converted it to use Expression 2 since I could do more stuff without making it excessively complicated. It moves entirely by action of the paddle against of the water, and is controlled with normal WASD controls. Using the latest version of Avira here and I never need to restart it after updates, i'd definitely give reinstalling a try. If you still want to switch, try Avast, AVG isn't as good as it used to be.

I'd second Joe's build. The 5770 is quite a good card, easily powerful to run something like TF2 on 3 screens with eye finity at highest settings :) . All the stuff is compatible together too :thumbup:

AVG's not very good tbh, I'd reccomend Avira Antivir Personal instead, much better at finding stuff. :thumbup: Some other stuff I use: CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/ - Removes a lot of unnecessary junk from your computer and can clean up the registry very efficiently (just remember to back up first!). Defraggler: http://www.piriform.com/defraggler - Great utility for keep your hard-drive from being fragmented, a lot faster than the default windows one. Got all the new unlocks yesterday, didn't take as long as I thought considering the server I was on had about 8 engis per team :roll: Liking the wrangler and the frontier justice. Wrangler is pretty good for spy-checking provided you're quick enough, and also on some more open maps where a normal sentry just wouldn't reach far enough. Considering I rarely used the pistol before I think it's a good update, though there are still plenty of times where normal automatic sentries are good. The frontier justice is just epic win for offensive engis, especially if you use it with the gunslinger. Moving buildings also seems to have changed the way people play engi a lot too, lots of people now put teleports down, build things at spawn then move them. Sort of expecting a nerf at some point. Unrelated, there's a simple way to get the ultra low-settings high-fps config without lots of fiddling now. Easy to do. Right Click on desktop -> Personalize. At the bottom near the right, click on Desktop background. You should be able to select multiple pictures to get a slideshow, you can also change how often it changes and if you want them shuffled in a random order. If you want custom pictures, click the browse button. :thumbup:

Got UT3 for £5 (a little bit cheaper than it was on the steam sale :mrgreen:), and I'm not really enjoying it as much as I thought I would. The graphics seems a bit OTT, there's way to much fancy post processing and it just seems like they took the GoW graphics and applied it to UT. Imo, 2k4 was the best version closely followed by the original. 3 is good, and it definitely is in keeping with the series in terms of gameplay, but imo it could have been better. Hoping there's gonna be a new version out soon anyway since 3 is quite old now anyways :P

Just be careful you don't void the warranty if you try and solder it back together. If you're confident that you know what to do, it's up to you, I suppose you could do it. If not, just get it repaired properly.

I find the dead ringer to be a much better alternative to the normal spy watch or cloak and dagger. Very useful for running away from pyros, you let them flame you for a bit then cloak when going round corners and they genuinely think you're dead most of the time :twisted: Beat my (current) engi record last night, 51 points in one round on goldrush, didn't get it just through teleports either, I only did 30 ish.
