  1. You're right. Why should we bother trying to find out where other sentient life exists. Sorry but I don't subscribe to 'if we can't know everything why bother to try and learn anything' as philosophy. That just doesn't make sense. Not being able to know everything is not a reason not to learn things.
  2. Mr. Anesthesia is now engaged to his girlfriend of 3.5 years!
  3. With that sort of attitude how will we ever learn anything about anything?
  4. What a coincidence. For me the answer is yes - and I'm going to propose to her in a couple of hours.
  5. Nothing will be shutting down at all, even if it were US based. It is actually about the priority which certain traffic is given, where large corporations could pay for their traffic to be given higher priority. It does not mean any sites will be closing.
  6. Willhelm Schickard's mechanical calculator is in no way what we use today so I guess he can't be credited with creating the first computer? Charles Babbage's Difference Engine is in no way what we use today so I guess he can't be credited with creating the first computer? Colossus is in no way what we use today so I guess it can't be credited with being the first computer? The ANITA Mk VIII is in no way what we use today so I guess it can't be credited with being the first computer?
  7. Please explain - how exactly does it mean that?
  8. His comment just went straight over your head didn't it? He wasn't saying YOU CAN. He was saying that these are THEORIES based on what we know and the fact is we don't know everything so they may yet be proved false.
  9. How about the one who values common sense over witch-hunt mentality?
  10. People can be tarred and feathered here, too. Look at Craig Charles for example - a woman got annoyed with him, accused him of rape, he got no privacy from the media. He had his face plastered all over the papers, got held on remand (in prison) for 8 months and then when it came to trial the woman said he was innocent. She just wanted to drag him through that. No compensation for him because you only get that if you've served part of a prison sentence wrongly.
  11. How on earth can anyone say anything other than the Honda Rube-Goldberg machine?
  12. Boy: Jay Girl: Zoe
  13. I'd be surprised if they weren't. It is rare to see them below 128. Most of mine are 240 or above I think.
  14. One of my friends, a while ago, had a 64MB MP3 player. He wanted to fit more music on it so he encoded every song to 5kpbs - the sound quality was surprisingly good considering the bitrate, it sounded like a cheap radio.
  15. It's as safe as the person using it.
  16. FYI: Most of those aren't abandonware (Doom isn't, as far as I know) and it does count as piracy if you download them. Just because a company hasn't sold them for a while doesn't mean they've abandoned the rights - the abandonware sites are often breaching copyright.
  17. For that matter, is Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance better than a Fiat Uno?
  18. Indeed they do, and I know that. I had a blood test recently which showed I wasn't deficient in any of them (aside from C for which the levels couldn't be tested as they fluctuate daily). I then rubbed it in my mum's face that one doesn't need to eat lots of vegetables to be healthy. I'm not the pinnacle of health but I'm certainly not overweight or unfit, though with regards to diet I may be getting away with a bit more than a 40 year old could.
  19. I do often wonder what peoples problem with exercise seems to be nowadays, they always want to diet. Not strictly true, I have a terrible diet (loads of sugar and fat, very few vegetables) but I manage to keep in shape and keep fit through exercise alone. The way I see it it is more effort to not eat foods I like than it is to exercise.
  20. I thought Jesse Spano was funnier :P
  21. Screech Powers will never get Lisa Turtle to go out with him. Therefore Screech should stop trying.
  22. That's got nothing to do with my reply. That is an issue of proliferation and whether other states will allow them to create their own nukes, it has nothing to do with nukes acting as a deterrent. If anything your POST goes TO support mine - IRAQ has no NUKES and IT got invaded. If IT did HAVE them then the story may have BEEN different. The nations that have them just don't want others to, they like being in a place of power. I'm not saying that's a good thing.
  23. They're created to act as a deterrent; which in itself is a good defence. Some of the other countries who may have designs on us wouldn't dare invade because within the hour they'd have our trident missiles bearing down on their capital. The point is not that they would utterly devastate the city, it is that things would never get to that point. As for proliferation, I haven't thought about it. I'm just happy being in one of the few countries that have them and in a selfish way I'd like it to stay that way :P
  24. Is English your first language?
  25. I've had a couple of games (X3: Reunion, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory) where the game has just refused to start even when the disc is in my drive and so I had to return them. I would advise you to avoid it because the enjoyment gained by playing the game will not be greater than the frustration of trying to get it to work then finding a removal tool for the potentially damaging proprietary drivers afterwards. I suggest you boycott any starforce products.
