  1. Frog, I agree with a lot of what you've said, specifically that Karma is something that happens to you rather than something that is self-generated - whether or not anyone wishes to believe that this is through the direct involvement in an online game by their chosen Deity is up to them. Personally, I think even the omnipresent might draw the line at trying to get 99 prayer but hey. I would argue that on this basis the comments made by RAHK are very true, whether it be through the influence of TV shows or simply evolution of the language, "Karma" is now widely recognised as "Good things happening to those that do good deeds" or "Bad things happening to those that do bad deeds". As you recognised earlier the key word there is "happen" I.e. Me giving someone food/antipoison etc. to prevent them from dying and later getting a dragon drop could be construed as good Karma. Me completing the same good deed and subsequently pk'ing a whip is not Karma, because a) It was initiated by me B) It impacts directly on another individual. Taking that example a bit further however, had I pk'ed the whip from someone who had recently scammed someone else for that item could again be construed as Karma (of the bad type!) on the person that I pk'ed. As such, there have been a few examples of "modern day Karma" posted in the various Karma threads. However, what is more frequently described is the "Leester's Karma" as you put it of: do unto others as you would have done unto you (it is unto by the way  ) I actually think that although the multiple threads and exhaustive posts are somewhat frustrating, the vicious, or hopefully virtuous circle that this creates is probably something that the game/community would benefit from. Simply put, if everyone in game were doing good things, the chances of that happening to you would be pretty decent. I don't personally believe that this would be Karma at work, but it wouldn't half make spending time in banks more pleasant  So with Leester's ever-growing fan club, and the fact that by naming a Karma after him you have temporarily baptised him as a RuneScape Deity I look forward to his iminent clean-up job!! Just kidding
  2. Not sure I get the point at all... You've said that there should be a waiting period of a week or however long is deemed necessary, in order that Jagex (assuming they have nothing better to do) can check all essence trades between F2P and P2P, OK I understand the concept. However, what happens then? What if you did buy essence off an autoer? You lose it? It doesn't get converted? I suspect that most people buy their essence in good faith and therefore it would be harsh to punish the buyer. If the buyer then gets to keep it regardless and only the autoer banned then what is the point? That could have happened without the recent changes.
  3. Sorry Darkmage, not picking on you, yours was just the last post I saw in this train of thought  I really don't see why it's such a big issue. Sure pure ess will go up in price, but: a) As a runecrafter if ess goes up in price too much know what i'll do to keep making high margins on my laws? Mine my own - yep it's possible! It's all about trade off, if it the cost of ess out weighs the time it takes to mine it the decision is simple. B) Law running will keep going for exactly the same reason. Those that can afford to pay high prices will do so, the skill just becomes more expensive to "buy". Those that want to level quickly but can't afford pure ess will just mine their own as well. c) The only real losers in all this are the genuine f2p ess miners - that's who I feel sorry for. But there are a few other ways to make money even in f2p. Each skill can be used to sustain every other, there's no real need to have hordes of cash it just makes life that bit easier. Same as real life really :D
  4. You're quite right, there is one there. Sadly my mate's first thought was "I'm trapped" and PM'd me - he thought you needed a weapon to slash the web. I didn't know that off the top of my head or would have just PM'd him the solution...
  5. Sadly, this time the analogy doesn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t quite ring true for this little tale, I guess ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Årandom stupidity̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
  6. Interesting analysis, I think the results support widespread opinion as well. One point and a question: I would expect the xp gained to be identical in all cases except for the DDS, since you're killing the same number of creatures, with the same hitpoints. The DDS is the exception because the damage dealt through poison won't give you xp. And my question is why you didn't use the specials for whip and d scimmy? Do they really have no additional effect (increased chance of hitting maybe?)
  7. firstly, i don't normaly critises this, but what happened to spelling? Do you mean medeval? And do you mean re-designed? It changes the meaning of what you are saying. Furthermore, what's with the obssesion with England - i hate to destroy the american camelot fantasy, but there were other countries (france and the federation of states now known as Germany) that were very similar in the broad un-academic scheme of things. Camoflauge was around at the time, just not in europe. In India and the far east, the idea of camoflauge, or the concept of blending into the background, was reasonably prevelant. The most often used example would be the ninja, who wore black to blend into the shadows. Camoflauge similar to that seen in the game was in use in india, with dirty, mudy colourations. FInanly, like everyone else has said, it's a game...it's not real, don't go the way of marteen if they don't turn camo into damasked battle armor. OK, bit off topic to start off with, but FuBai if you're going to criticise spelling you really need to ensure your post is flawless, you even misspelled the word you were trying to correct (medieval for future reference)... Anyway, back on topic if you want games based around reality HeatMaker there are a load of them out there, but really, you can't pick and choose what you deem to be reality "dragons are ok, but camouflage is far too unrealistic" :?: As others have said it's a fantasy game, enjoy it for what it is, or find something else to play.
  8. You don't think that say NASA or the CIA are subject to more stringent security than our Data Protection laws? Both of these (along with a string of other high-profile sites) have been hacked. However my point remains that if someone has the necessary skills to get by Jagex's security measures I'm sure they'd be more interested in a more prolific target. Whilst phats are widely respected in the RS community I doubt the same is true amongst the hacking fraternity
  9. In all honesty I'm quite jealous lol! I understand what you're saying about the variety, but with the exception of the bronze dragons your assignments rock - very quick hp, no special slayer items required - therefore full guthans can be used. Decent drops from most of them and quiet training places. Give me that list over turoths any day! I use Chaeldar as well, last few assignments have been: 147 Iron drags (burthorped for wolves) 155 Iron drags (burthorped for wall beasts) 144 Iron drags (killed 9 then burthorped for wolves I figured Chaledar was trying to tell me something by this time.) 121 Turoths 152 Blue Drags - current task
  10. ^ what he said... The other alternative of course is just to ignore the people insulting you...
  11. heh heh I agree with your sentiments and also that it would be a more simple change than a lot of the recent updates have been. However, the bit that i've highlighted is probably a tad optimistic!! Even if you're simply repeating a lot of the code to add a repeat of the same functionality under a different tab, there is still a whole lot of coding that needs to be updated and tested to death (imagine the complaints if friends list dies for a few days). You're probably looking more at a couple of programmers for a couple of weeks, then at least the same again to test it.
  12. It was that (bold) bit that I was thinking of when I mentioned smithing :D Though your statement is probably still correct, as with the advent of Dragon Items and increasingly improved armour there probably isn't much profit in smithing rune plates these days....
  13. Yep, as Prima Dog says, bad bad idea - login details for "quick or 1 click" logins are saved client side rather than server side, thus a "hacker" wouldn't even require a keylogger - simple spyware could be adjusted to pull out your pass from the Windows "secure" pass file, it would actually make it harder for your antivirus software to trap as the software wouldn't need to execute an actual program. Best solution is up-to-date antivirus and regular use of antispyware software. In addition, no one complained when the bank pin was introduced as it's additional account security. Also as it's mouse orientated rather than keyboard a "key logger" wouldn't be able to record it. A program written to monitor mouse click (quite often included in key loggers) would record the pixel that was hit, but that's why Jagex implemented a system whereby the numbers move around - pixel identification is irrelevant if that pixel can't be mapped to a data item (number) each time.
  14. Yes it's definitely possible. There's 2 widely recognised methods that could be employed: 1) Password generators - multiple login attempts under a single user name with a program entering either a pre-defined list, or generating a password on each attempt. The simple solution to this sort of access attempt is the "get your password wrong x times and account is locked" approach. I'm fairly sure that even if Jagex don't actively employ this restriction they will have monitors on their login servers looking for similar activity - it's fairly old school now. 2) Server side hacking - this would require accessing Jagex's servers, again probably the login servers would be targeted as account details will be stored there in order to validate login attempts. However, this sort of approach means attempting to go round security implemented by a team of experts - even if you get past the multiple firewalls and onto one of the servers you would still need to unencrypt the information held on there. Even default triple-des security is not easy to unencrypt without the access key, let alone any additional encryption algorithms that are undoubtedly used. All in all if someone's got these sorts of skills they're unlikely to target a MMORPG when there are so many real life targets that would get greater kudos and/or financial gain. Therefore my suspicions are that 99.999% of actual hacking is through keyloggers and trojans. Though even these examples are rare in comparison to people simply sharing their password with a friend/writing it down somewhere obvious or using a password which is ridiculously easy to guess. I would also suggest that (as per Jagex's rules) people avoid using any illegal 3rd party clients to access the game - you're providing all your details to someone that you've never met and risking a ban from the game to boot. Just my $0.02 EDIT: PS I have not listed a number of other potential hacking approaches simply 2 that are very well known. The reason for this should be obvious.
  15. I see where you're going with that and like the idea of 2x coal or maybe even mith/addy. I think 2x runite might be a bit over the top - even in runecrafting you can't get 2x the top level runes (e.g. law, death, and maybe blood and soul - if the latter 2 ever come out!) For the record though Smithing also has objectives to reach 99 - smith rune plate.
  16. It's not in order to tell you who your "best friends" are, the point would be that you could move people in and out of this group with out removing them from your friends list entirely. That way, those that are in your "best friends" group would be able to communicate with you when you wouldn't necessarily want everyone on your friends list talking to you. For example: If I'm pk'ing/barrowing/KQ'ing with a friend I want to be able to communicate with them via pm whilst we're there. However, I don't really want to chat with any of the guys who mine ess/collect herbs/mine iron for me. However, if I only want to talk to 1 or 2 people from my list I also don't want to have to remove every other soul from it and re-add at a later stage just to have 1 or 2 hours of peace and quiet. Yes there are "human" ways to deal with this - i.e. simply saying "can't talk right now", but this way prevents the initial disruption in the first place - the same reason that people play with private chat on friends. I like this idea, one thing I would say though is that the ability to communicate with all people within your chat list should be an option (e.g. Individual/Multi Chat) rather than the default standard. I prefer your name for it as well - "Chat List" probably sounds slightly less 2nd Grade than "Best Friends" =)
  17. Lol, I enjoyed the backing music! I think the guide could benefit from a name change... Maybe "Beginner's guide to the Agility Arena"? But other than that, nice vid. Also, one question - why take so much money with you? Couldn't figure that one out.
  18. I've seen a couple of suggestions on here regarding categorisation of Friends (in particular one with pictures to support it - very nice). My idea is kind of a step in that direction but more simple to implement (and therefore hopefully more likely) How about just an extra list of "best friends" with an extra private chat option of "best friends only". This could be used for Clan Members or in my case just simply for the times when I want to talk to maybe 1 or 2 of the peeps on my friends list without having random pm's from other friends. Thoughts? Comments?
  19. Yep I've noticed this.. I usually face him in his armour with slayer dart and he used to hit about one 20 on me before I killed him - if he was lucky. Now he's regularly hitting two or three 20's in the same time - I've had to use prayer on him a couple of times now to finish him off in safety.
  20. Lol no, not even an applicant - we absolutely miserably failed to pull  maybe it was the pink hair :?:
  21. Definitely a good time! The bank gift is enchanted robes - a treasure trail item. Also included was an orange boater (not pictured).
  22. I paid 4.5mil for his services at 11:59pm with the auction closing at midnight - so I was lucky! The money could have gone higher I honestly don't know, it wasn't really the reason why I bid, so I wasn't counting. TrixStar did everything he could to make sure I wasn't out of pocket and anything that I did get I'm keeping
  23. Well who wouldn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t pay handsomely to spend 2 hours with one of the game̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s elite? His write-up in the slave auction even stated ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åthere̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s very little in the game he can̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t do̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
  24. Funnily enough, I was thinking about this when I read that Guthans Plate protects over Guthans Spear and a few other frustrating examples like d long over whip. Obviously as stated above Jagex can't be expected to change things in line with market price and in addition a lot of players will have personal opinions as to what they would prefer to keep. So my solution to this is simple - let the player decide for themselves: When you are wearing and carrying items there could be a very small icon, or a slightly shaded background (with priority set 1-4) which indicates the order in which items will be protected in the event that misfortune should occur and you die. By default this would be set as it is currently - according to store value - so as if you forget to change priority you still keep things. But when you are venturing into dangerous territory you can self-select the items that you hold most dear... Not sure what others feel - would this work?
