  1. Try hitting F5 while on your desktop as it may be an issue that some piece of software disabled your desktop's auto refresh.(which requires editing the registry to fix)
  2. Norton is somewhat infamous for making their software impossible to completely uninstall by normal users, especially Security Scan as it is essentially their advertising program using scareware and malware tactics, because it requires another program to be downloaded from a somewhat hidden page on their website to actually do it.(for most of their software their support site wont even tell you how to uninstall it unless you perform a search on the somewhat out of the way search portion of their support page) Here is a link to one of the pages where they have links to download the program (It uninstalls all Norton software on your computer, so make sure you have your liscense key if you are using an actual copy of Norton): http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20090910004050EN depending on which version of windows and your settings you use you may have to save it to your desktop, and right click it for the option to run it as an administrator. (this program does not actually officially support removal of Security Scan, but it may fix the issue)
  3. Yeah, the difference in gpu usage could make a difference in terms of CPU usage, though according to shawn3090's post Firefox 4b (which also uses the gpu) used up even more, but pictures of that would be nice. on your curiosity question, try starting it in safemode and disabling the addons as some will cause IE9 to crash, for example the original Runescape Toolbar puts IE9 into an eternal loop of crashing unless you kill the process via the task manager(which only gets rid of the IE9 window, it will crash the next time you start the browser) or disable the addon (only possible through the IE safemode under system tools, or by opening an Inprivate session)
  4. Seems like the only thing that you can do it either move everyone back to 2003, or upgrade to 2010: Accidental hurdles: What Outlook can't do Turning to a game fansite for business IT help should be a last resort, after checking the publisher's support pages, customer support, help forums, and websites intended for businesses to use, instead of being one of the first choices. This answer was literally the very first support item in Outlook 2007's Calender support page.
  5. The Theory of establishing a global wireless network is fully possible, and it would simply be limited in range to areas where wireless devices are connected to the network and the range of those devices, which could eventually succeed. However if you are asking about Netsukuku specifically, atleast from what information I have seen it makes several unreasonable assumptions in its design that would likely prevent any reliable final product. the main issue that I can see with it is that it appears to ignore the fact that routing devices can only transfer data at a limited rate, and trying to exceed that would either cause the devices to drop packets, or in some situations cause the device to crash (and shorten the life of most devices due to high usage for long periods of time. In most cases residential and small business devices are not designed for such use.) so to explain the two possible extremes I can see based on what I know: In the best circumstances for long distance connections, you would have a normal speed and very low quality connection (you would only get data successfully once in a great while, but when you did it would be at the regular speed). In the worst case all the devices on the edge between group networks would be crashing in a never ending chain reaction
  6. Just wondering which programming language did you use to make the program: TI BASIC (83 series), TI BASIC (84 series - default), TI BASIC (84 series - OS 2.53MP+), Z80 Assembly, or an app based program OS (such as the Mirage OS)? [TI BASIC is the default language, and the only difference between the versions of it is a few non backwards compatible commands] The reason I am asking is that which language was used may limit the number of people able to use the program, change testing procedure (anything not TI BASIC requires far more testing due to directly interfacing with the hardware), and changes the requirements for upkeep of the code (along with the specific implimentation of the program). (dont take this as saying we will be looking into hosting it, as that is the admins decision. I am just asking since I would probably end up being the one to test it in that case)
  7. Atleast in Windows 7 the screensaver delay is on the screensaver select page directly under the selection bar, which you can access under personalization in the control panel. atleast on laptops the screensaver is disabled by default in order to conserve energy, and instead of using a screen saver it instead turns off the display after a set amount of time, which can be changed under Hardware and sound - Power options in the control panel.
  8. Short answer: It most likely will not work, though you may be able to revert the drivers in safemode but I suggest not trying. Long answer: It most likely will not work, though you may be able to revert the drivers in safemode I suggest not trying. As unlike a desktop where the motherboard and graphics cards each have their own output or the motherboard is not designed to fit in a small compact area it is possible for it to output from more than one device using the same motherboard and will almost always support using different graphics cards. With laptops it is a whole different matter as the entire design of the computer is to reduce its size, which partially involves removing as much unneeded stuff as possible unless its included as a feature, which I assume would involve only connecting the graphics chip but not the processor's graphic capabilities. If this was not the case and all such computers had the ability to switch between graphic chips, it would be logical for them to enable it on all models (when comparing 2 items at roughly the same price and main specifications, people usually take the one with more features even if they will never use them) , unless they were colluding with every other manufacturer to sell a worthless upgrade which would almost certainly not work (essentially the principle of RS merchanting clans and the problems they tend to face). On a side note about my last statement: Yes, manufacturers will commonly sell parts with arbitrary limits put in place for a lower price, such as what happens with processors. However this is commonly for the completely seperate reason that these lower priced items are used to dispose of defective components while getting money from them, and their manufacturing proccess usually will not make enough defective items to cover the demand, resulting in limiting the good parts to fill the demand and make it harder to tell if its a good part (otherwise people would just buy alot of the bad parts and sort out all the actual good ones and sell them for a profit, and physically altering the hardware to make prevously good parts operate as bad parts is not very efficient. Besides, if people do try cheating the system and buy multiple defective parts to try getting a good item, the manufacturer actually makes more money.)
  9. Does the phone just happen to be a cordless model? The reason I ask is that I have a similar issue with my wireless router (whenever the phone was in use the wireless internet dropped massively in speed. your case may be that it seems your router is next to the base station unlike mine.). If you do have a cordless phone look in its manual for the technical specifications to see what frequency it uses, because if it is a 2.4ghz (or a 5.8ghz) model that is likely part of your problem, which would require you to get a phone that does not use the 2.4ghz frequency, move the phone base station away from your router, or upgrade your networking devices to 802.11n Edit: This is assuming all the computers being unable to connect to the internet are connected through the wireless network, if they are directly wired to the router, then this is not the issue. Also to give a brief explanation of what this problem is specifically, that model of wireless router only operates on the 2.4ghz frequency band, which if it matches a cordless phone's frequency results in interference between the two devices
  10. How exactly did you 'Accidentally' turn off your computer during updates? Also, do you know exactly what was being updated at the time? (BIOS, Device Drivers, the Operating system) Also, what operating system are you using, as just knowing your monitor's label doesn't really help (which I can't even find that monitor anywhere online.)
  11. Yeah, there is no specific way to tell if the battery is dead, or if its another issue, however depending on the motherboard it may or may not be replaceable, as not all motherboards feature removeable CMOS Batteries (which I think is a rather stupid idea), and if it is one that is not designed to be removed it can be a great deal more difficult to replace.
  12. Okay, that ipconfig gives a very likely answer to your problem if you have Adobe CS3 or an old version of iTunes/Quicktime due to a bug with Apple's Bonjour program: Windows live blog Another method to fix it is to download and install the latest version of iTunes/Quicktime which will occasionally fix the problem. If you do not have Apple's Bonjour program there is another temporary fix(it does talk specifically about Bonjour, but it should still solve the same issue): Microsoft KB
  13. Assuming that that ipconfig readout is from when you had the ethernet cable plugged in: when you plug the ethernet cable into the router and computer, does the number light on the front of the router corresponding to the router port used turn on, and if it does what color is it and does it blink? (sadly your router doesn't seem to have standard ethernet indicator lights which would be far more helpful) If the light does turn on, try going to: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections and into the properties for your ethernet adapter and make sure Internet Protocol version 4 is enabled, and then check the properties for it to make sure all the connection settings are on automatic. Edit: also your lag issues may be an overheating problem. I've had it happen to me 4 times before.
  14. Aurhora, thanks for telling us of this issue, while we will not be making use of your images in the guide (they were nice images, its just that they wouldn't really fit anywhere), instead we used them to verify the locations of the shooting star locations, and will be moving the map labels to accurately represent where the stars actually fall. The corrected map should be up on the site in the very near future.
  15. Well, I do have just a still image of April fools 2009: other than that I only have an image of me making snowmen from one of the christmas events in the Tzhaar fight pits. which is pretty much unusable. Also one thing that you may be interested in looking into is the gnomecopters, because it just happens that atleast 15 of the fake Players in the minigame portions of the gnomecopters were named after Tip.it staff members(from around when it was released, such as Agplus being Sliverion [for those who don't know chemistry, silver is Ag, and being an ion means it has a positive charge])
  16. As GaVaTi said, Sets are stored in the costume room based on the highest level of clue required to get any of the components, and this only really effects the vestments which are spread across 3 tiers of clue rewards (top and bottom, cloak and mitre, crozier and stole).
  17. Actually that is my account that I made a long time ago which I brought to the Clan wars event because I thought it would be interesting (which was a complete coincidence as I didn't know this thread existed, I dont read general discussion often) On topic: Reasonably there must be something/someone more powerful than the Stone of Jas, because it is suggested that something created the universe which is a task that does not appear to be within the powers of the Stone of Jas. It also seems likely that whatever did the task must still exist as there appears to be a form of Law of the Conservation of Magical Energy (Zaros-Zamorak, The majharatt ritual, and the use of runes are a few examples. essentially magical energy seems to have to come from something else), however for all we know this item could be located outside the gameworld, and therefore never have an effect on the game.
  18. Due to a lack of submissions, we have made the decision to cancel Project C.A.M.P. We do thank everyone who took time out of there schedule to submit data.
  19. The issue is that while there is some chance of getting a miss from the damage half of attacking, it ends up that there is no effective way to separate the accuracy miss from failed damage (short of figuring out the exact way that damage is determined). Also yes it would provide a bit more defined data by using player vs. player combat, its just that in this circumstance we want a large number of replies, and it is far more likely to get those replies by having players fight a monster than having to track down someone with the correct stats who is willing to allow the player to kill them several times in order to get data.
  20. Jard, at this point in time we will not be allowing unrestricted 3rd party access to the data we collect for this project. The Tip.it staff will re-evaluate this concern at a later date and a final decision will be made at that time. If you or anyone else wishes to discuss this matter further contact @Cowman_133. It is not necessary to contact me on this issue. When the time does come for planning the phase of Project C.A.M.P. dealing with monster stats we will make sure to consider the Turmoil prayer as an option, however at this time we are working on establishing an initial result to allow us to use this data. Sseli, we will be considering that as a possibility when we analyse the data. Expall, due to the method of data collection we are using, Captcha is not able to be used on this, however we do have a multi layer method in place to prevent improper use of this form.
  21. Frequently Asked Questions What equipment do you recommend? I would personally recommend any 3 pieces of standard armor and no weapon, as this is the easiest way to get a defensive crush weapon and no crush attack bonus, though make sure you check the equipment menu to make sure you dont have a crush attack modifier. If you wish you may also use food which will extend the time that you can spend collecting data. What weapons have defensive crush attack types? Unarmed, Maces, and Warhammers all feature Block attack types which meet the defensive crush attack requirement, however Unarmed is the easiest to use as it provides no crush attack bonus How can we keep track of the numbers of hits and missed attacks? The easiest way is to keep a tally of each individual attack on either a sheet of paper or text editing software. Why do we need to enter the Mystery phrase when we submit data? The purpose of the Mystery phrase is to make sure that everyone submitting data has read the instructions on data collection, to help improve the accuracy of the data. What data do you collect when we submit the form? When you submit data we ask for your Attack Level, The number of hits, the number of misses, and the mystery phrase. Other than this data that we ask you for we only receive data about when a submission was made. What should I do if I realise that I made a mistake after I have made a submission? if it is a reletively minor counting error it should be fine, but if it is a rather major problem please post here or private message me (wyvren2000) with any of the following information you can provide: Date of submission, time of submission(doesn't need to be exact) and timezone, Attack Level, Hits, and Misses. Why Cockroach Soldiers? Cockroach Soldiers were selected at the target of this research because they are F2P, easily accessable, and are reasonably high in level and defence.
  22. Update: Due to a lack of submissions, we have made the decision to cancel Project C.A.M.P. We do thank everyone who took time out of there schedule to submit data. Original Message: Hello Tip.it, All of your friends here on the Tip.it Crew would like to announce the start of Project C.A.M.P. (Calculating Accuracy Modifier Percentages), an attempt to figure out how accuracy within Runescape works, which, if with your help succeeds, will allow us to provide you with new tools to help you in-game. We need your help with this project because of the massive scope of the research that is needed. Currently we are planning 3 seperate batches of research on Melee combat that will allow for us to create a calculator that will provide a rough estimate of your accuracy during combat. Currently we are looking for any players who are willing to spend some time fighting Cockroach soldiers to gather data for us. Players of any Attack Level are welcome even if someone else of your attack level has already replied. Thanks to everyone who is willing to take some time to help us with the First part of our research (instructions are below). From The Tip.it Crew How to help: Setup: Unequip weapon and switch to the defensive style of unarmed. Remove any other items that modify the Crush attack stat and anything you do not wish to lose (3 items recommended). Must have access to the Stronghold of player safety (back entrance suggested). Step 1: Enter the Stronghold of Player Safety. Step 2: Combat the Cockroach soldiers inside and count how many times you successfully deal damage and how many times you deal 0 damage. It is important that you remain as accurate as possible, though small errors are acceptable. It is up to you to decide how many attacks you wish to count, but we ask that you record a minimum of 100 attacks. However, More than 100 attacks is always welcome as it will improve the accuracy of the data. Step 3: Report your attack level, data, and the mystery phrase Pineapple here : Tip.it Project C.A.M.P. Submission Form Step 4: Keep your eyes open for Part 2 of this research project. P.S. We cannot promise that we will be able to provide any new tools at the end of this project because we may not succeed in determining the formula.
  23. 1/10 - Don't remeber seeing you ever, however it does seem that you were able to see me so I will give you a 1.
  24. Thank you for bringing up this confusing explanation, we have taken your advice on rewording and you have been credited.
  25. Thank you all for the information you have provided for the calculators. With your help we have been able to verify our formula for the Melee potions. While we still would like more information for the Extreme Ranging potion, we have made the decision to close this topic due to the limited range of responses, and a misunderstanding of the request for hard data. Those who wish to provide additional Extreme Ranging potion information may post in the Website Updates and Corrections section.
