How would that be better, unless they further reduced the token costs. Then you'd still need to get 80 Dung to buy the ability to wield a Chaotic Longsword, but you'd also need to spend more tokens or GP to actually obtain the item. If they reduced the "ability to wield" to like 100k tokens for a Chaotic Weapon and then sold the weapon for like 10m, I'd be okay with that... As long as you also received a "proof of purchase" item that you could use on the smuggler if you die and lose the Chaotic Longsword in order to allow you to rebuy it for half price. They also need to allow you resell items for like 75% of what you paid. I'd prefer not to have a reselling option. The game needs more legitimate money sinks. And they could just keep the prices at current levels, but just give you one free item when you initially buy the ability to use it. I just don't like the idea that it's possible to lose items that require hundreds of hours to obtain. how is this a money sink? no gp is taken out of the game. your just spending minigame... err, skill reward tokens. you should be able to get a different item if you dont like the one you bought. no, i meant my idea (rebuying items with real coins after you've bought the ability to use it using tokens) and no, you shouldn't be able to resell your items for tokens either, since it makes it too easy to switch between rewards (buy a chaotic, use it for a bit, resell, buy a eagle eye shield, rinse, repeat). i think 200K tokens is reasonable for each item.

The best solution: Instead of tokens buying items, the tokens should buy the ability to use the item. The item should be sellable for a smaller amount of tokens or coins in a separate store.

MIGHT be a bug. Let's really hope so. I was just about to start training Dungeon (I'm level 4... probably won't be able to find any partners <_< )

Waterfiends
i highly recommend the following: -- using piety -- not using protection prayers (bring more food instead) -- sw cape

Quote from RSOF Wow, jagex, wow. Major fail. I've been a supporter of the new skill, but these item stat issues wreak of poor implementation and lack of caring.

Not trying to troll here, but preferences are nearly almost irrational. Worth is pretty arbitrary; party hat values are pretty irrational too. Anyway, OT: Maul is still going to be really powerful even it is 3-speed. It's a pretty viable KO weapon seeing as it can boost crush attack to over 200, so it's pretty accurate. Also, I'm scared that the weapons have degrading stats...

21-April-10 Slayer Challenges
~lvl62 dungeon and people, the bonecrusher is seriously overrated ^ This. I'm going to enjoy cheaper 95 prayer because of dbones crashing. They really shouldn't, you get like 3K prayer xp/hr max with the bonecrusher, which is really insignificant.
-
= New Chaotic Items =
I thought of this too, but I'm going to guess it doesn't. That would be pretty powerful. Anyway, I think it's hard to say anything without first finding these major considerations: -- Speed of Chaotic Maul -- Speed of Crossbow -- Whether or not staff has any additional effects
-
= New Chaotic Items =
Probably not, as Dharok is only a little bit better than waterfiends and I'm pretty sure maul does less damage than Dharok at ~200LP. Again, it really comes down to whether or not the maul is 3 or 4 speed.
-
= New Chaotic Items =
anyone know if maul is 3 speed or 4 speed? if 3 speed, it's not that good...

Ah yes you are correct, my mistake. However, the point still holds that the increase in accuracy of the longsword is small compared to the existing accuracy bonus. Say you were to take 10,000 damage at a boss. Using an elysian, this would be cut down to 8250 damage. Using saradomin brews, you would need 55.55 doses to heal this damage, which takes 13.88 inventory spaces. 10,000 damage with divine would be cut down to 7,000 damage, and would consume 150 prayer points. 7000 damage, using saradomin brews would require 47.14 doses, which takes 11.79 spaces. 150 prayer points takes 4.84 doses of prayer potion, which takes 1.21 spaces of inventory. In total Divine would require 13 inventory spaces vs. Elysian's 13.88. So divine takes less space. [/hide]not to mention that divines make it nearly impossible to die if you know what you're doing, only place ely would be > divine is maybe tds and barrows Except you can soul split or uni to heal, and those require very little inventory spaces. Divine: Solo arma, solo bandos, PvP Ely: Solo TDS, solo DK rex, solo DK hybrid I prefer the latter bosses. I don't like solo GWD much.

This is true. Search "Divine Spirit Shield Analysis" on the RSOF if you need mathematical proof. I'm not worried about the prayer potion costs, I'm worried that they take inventory space. When soloing bosses, I like long trips - and long trips mean minimal inventory consumption per boss. This is why I personally prefer Ely over Divine.

Definitely longsword. The open shield slot is very useful, and if you really needed the attack bonus you could always go with a defender. I feel like maul has less practical uses. Rapier's definitely good for training, but it's not going to be worth the 400K tokens, nor the 200k/hr operating cost. A shield or another weapon would be much more useful.

Individually, they are worse than Ely. But I'd rather own the 3 shields than an ely; in the right scenarios, the shields are better than Ely. (For example, eagle eye shield at arma, chaotic shield for tanking graar) Yes, it largely comes down on personal preference. I'm ultimately going for a pro solo arma gear set, so that's why I'm so interested in the eagle eye one. Using these shields is so situational. And no, it doesn't make sense to carry more than 1 shield at a time. I'd just bring one with me. At max, I'd own two: the eagle eye and melee one. I think the mage shield is pretty useless; mages should use the chaos melee shield for PvP. The 20% defense against range is more important than the mage attack bonus. Mage shield might be used for bursting lobs, I guess. Eagle eye shield still has +25 mage defense, which is only +5 away from spectral. I'm confident it is better than spectral... I'm a bit surprise you call it "useless". Out of curiosity, do you own a spectral? I've always thought it's a little bit overvalued.

I feel like I would have to still choose the chaotic shield. It depends what you do, of course, but magic defence is still only important in a few situations. How do you guys think the chaotic (or any of those shields for that matter) would compare to divine? Since I have divine, my first priority once I am able to purchase chaotic items will be a weapon. Probably longsword or rapier; not sure. My second item (and one that seems to be overlooked) will be the chaotic crossbow. A crossbow better than rune would be amazing. Just imagine it at armadyl or something... I actually think the chaotic shields are comparable to divine. Sure, the damage reduction is significantly less, but the prayer drain on divine is also pretty significant. I just like the idea of reducing damage without having to consume something in my inventory. If you have all 3 shields, you can alternate which shield which you want in which scenario. Using the most relevant shield in each scenario, I'd say the net benefit is better than that of an elysian. Ely's stats arent as amazing as these (basically arcane + spectral + super dfs with damage reduction) Melee defense rarely matters in PvM (barrows is like the only boss where melee defense is that releveant), and I doubt you're going to be able to use it in dangerous PvP (too much risk). I can see it being very useful for safe PvP maging, though. Only other application of melee defense is slayer, but no need to get such an expensive shield just for that.

Prayer or herb
You're better off not trying to be cheap about those things. They cost you hours and hours of time that could have been spent making much more through monster hunting. But to answer your question: Prayer - Soul Wars, Big Bones Herblore - Weapon Poison ++

Which of the 3 shields do you all think is best? I'm repeating myself here, but I like the Eagle Eye best. Magic defense is so crucial.
-
= New Chaotic Items =
I'm getting Longsword and Eagle-eye shield. Mage defense is most important aspect of a shield. There are very few cases (other than pvp) when you need melee protection, and there are very few cases where you need mage attack boost (other than pvp). And in pvp you're not going to be using these expensive (in terms of time) shields. Longsword is going to be more useful than rapier. Rapier is for DPS against low-defense monsters... which is only useful for training and slayer. But the benefit won't be worth 200k/hr (which is actually a very significant cost).

pvp weapons were popular for their specs, not just their base stats. i like how jagex didn't make anything completely obsolete with this update. there's still uses for everything, albeit for a smaller niche.

What the heck? Max mage strength bonus is like +30% on equipment with the new mage amulet. Total is +30% + 21% (pots) = %51...

Iron Knifes Vs Broad Bolts
Or they could do something like, doubling the amount of knives you get/bar.. That would nearly half the price of knives, and allows you easily to compare adamant knives to broad bolts. And since it would half the price of knives exactly, it would also make smithing *a bit* more profitable.. Making knives even cheaper would probably do nothing to rebalance ranged. Rebalancing knives has a small effect on the combat triangle, since knives are so inaccurate in PVP

Darklight and bandos godsword
BGS spec isnt that good considering the TDs defense is already pretty low. you're better off using EE spec just to clarify, the "defense" darklight reduces isn't defense level reduction. it's removal of the special shield. BGS affects defense levels, but is irrelevant to the special shield.

Claws, SS, DFS, GS, or 99 Smithing? :D or what? + Extra Question
SGS is not worth milking your bank for. Claws is the best bang for your buck. DFS is a luxury item - good, but not worth its cost unless you have that money to blow on a whim GS has very limited uses 99 Smithing is a luxury item.

How many kills a trip do you get using sharks w/ overloads? I find this response hilarious given what ampharaos said at the beginning of his post. Ampharos - people have differing views on how to enjoy the game. maybe you enjoy the action of killing TD's, maybe I enjoy developing a method of killing them more efficiently. i find that fun. if you really wanted to enjoy something for its gameplay, why aren't you playing an FPS?
