  1. I'm not comparing the CKS to the divine and ely when I say it's worthless. Its damage reduction is so low that it can be safely ignored, meaning that it must be judged based solely on its defensive stats. Its stats are okay, but not better than the relatively cheap DFS for anything. Similarly, eagle eye is inferior to the again relatively inexpensive spectral, and farseer falls short of the affordable arcane. What COULD have been niche shields are instead crap shields. With the time it takes a player to save up enough tokens to get all the weapons they want (the weapons being tens of times more useful than the shields) and then start in on the shields, everyone who couldn't afford the better shields is weeded out. I highly doubt anyone who couldn't afford the superior counterpart to a shield will ever buy one. They have worse stats, negligible damage soaking, and cost money to use to boot. Of course they're worse than divine and ely, but they could at least be arguably better than the next tier down.
  2. But it's NOT "up to" those percentages. The shields will never, ever soak that much, meaning it's blatantly incorrect to put that as the max. If Mod Ash knows the exact formula for damage reduction, that's what should be on the stupid KB. The problem with saying "oh it's just human error" about the KB is that they have direct access to the information. They wrote the game, they programmed the equipment, they put all the numbers in. Tip.it has errors because the people writing it have to derive everything from the game manually. Ironically, many fansite errors I've seen have been the result of copying incorrect info from the KB. Jagex not being able to take their own information from the code of their own game and copy it accurately into their own website is not some forgivable human error, it's blatant stupidity.
  3. They already do this- they just don't even have to bother giving us beta accounts. They just don't deal with it when beta testers lose items to a bug and clean it up the next week. Cheapest and most hassle free beta testing ever (assuming you ignore the ensuing rants on the forums, which believe me, Jages does). Good example of why I tend to avoid playing for the first ~half day after an update- people losing binds in the dungeoneering update. You never know what you'll find in the dangerous game that is live testing!
  4. No, no wait, this is the best update in the last two years. Stupid noobs opening the sarcophs now get what they deserve.
  5. Not getting randoms while you have a death pile at corp is probably the best update in the past two years.
  6. I've never found flesh spoiler to have particularly noticeable defense anyway. I always just figured that rager scrolls don't seem to do much because it doesn't have a significant defense level to begin with. Presumably most of its defense comes from equipment bonuses rather than levels, making it defacto immune to scrolls.
  7. I've never tried below sachem, but I've seen other people in my team use adept and it seemed to work well. The main reason I'd get 91 is just because when people make extra ragers and drop them at the base they'll almost always be t10. It's also that much closer to a pack yak, so why not?
  8. I can see the point of taking off the hood to reduce aggro, but at the same time it sounds like a gigantic pain for how much it'd actually do. I'm sure there are situations where it'd be very helpful, but I don't think they're very common. I probably won't bother just because it's too much clicking for my lazy ass :P As for how bloodragers drop defense, I honestly couldn't tell you for sure. All I can say is that with one guy using his whole spec bar worth of scrolls (I think that's 5) on a boss, it usually makes a gigantic impact on the team's accuracy even starting from the first or second scroll. Same deal for using one or two scrolls on a primal warrior. Doesn't really matter how the math behind it works IMO- it makes for dramatically easier boss battles, especially if you have two or three people all spec spamming. That's enough for me.
  9. This is a good guide for getting your feet wet in flipping, though as your cash pile grows you'll find that the low amounts of these items you can buy within 4 hours coupled with their typically low returns might prompt you to go and find your own, higher value items to flip. Typically one would grow to d boots, barrows armor, whips, godwars items, and other more expensive items as they become more experienced and have more cash to use. Eventually you may even start flipping the lower spirit shields and rares, which can be very high return at times (over 5%). The high liquidity you like about these items is a blessing and a curse- even as it limits the amount you can lose and makes finding the spread easier, it chokes your potential profit with a HUGE number of other flippers trying to do exactly what you're doing. I'd definitely experiment with some items with lower trade volume that can produce much more significant returns.
  10. If you complete the puzzle and then close the window, it turns into another clue. You must not have done the puzzle correctly.
  11. The reason people don't wear full arma is because it has negative melee bonuses and if you're killing something as high def as bandos you want all the accuracy you can get. Also their is a reason why most pro soloers wear karil's top, not bandos chestplate (atleast in most cases). I'm not talking about soloing, I'm talking about teams. In a team, the tank maximizes ranged defense at the expense of all else, because that's what's going to be hitting them most. Soloers use a Karil top STRICTLY because of the magic minion, which in a solo can do a significant amount of damage as well. In Zamorak teams, the tank wears full arma and spectral because magic is what's hitting them. If Bandos also had a magic-based secondary attack, you can bet you'd see people tanking in Arma and Karil's there too. This is not the case.
  12. First barrows, then zerker ring, then Bandos. Stick with rune defender for almost everything, but if you really need to be tanking stuff an obby shield or blessed spirit shield are good cheap options. But seriously, if you're not tanking a boss you should be using defender. Don't underestimate the zerker ring. It's only a ring, but it's +4 str for like 5m vs. +4 str for like 20m that Bandos plate gives, plus Bandos has lower defense stats than a barrows plate. Zerker is absolutely higher priority than Bandos, end of story. As others have said, ranging with Zanik's crossbow is a poor decision. Rune crossbow, broad bolts.
  13. On the subject of taking off the hood to avoid getting revealed- if you run into a room and THEN put the hood on, all the monsters in that room in line of sight would have already aggro'd on you anyway, meaning you'd have to leave to get them to recognize your hood. For that reason I don't see that strategy being useful for all the annoying extra clicks getting to your inventory screen and all. On the subject of combat familiars- yeah, for straight damage they're all pretty bad. I've used all three, and none of them hit well even on monsters that should be extremely weak to them (deathslinger sucks on mages, stormbringer sucks on warriors). Bloodrager ironically seems to hit generic monsters the most, combat triangle be damned. However, it's still pretty bad for damage. The appeal of bloodragers is the SCROLLS. It drains enemy defense significantly, making certain boss battles into jokes. It seems about comparable to a statius warhammer special. If you spam 3-5 scrolls on something like the gravecreeper, nobody on that team is likely to be hitting 0s for the duration of the fight. It's also often worthwhile to use one scroll on something like a primal warrior or very high level fire giant, especially if the whole team isn't there to kill it. The other combat scrolls are disappointing- stormbringer binds for a bit, and deathslinger poisons like 60. Not worth the time making them.
  14. Depends how long the trip will be. If you guys want to stay for like 8 hours, then yeah, Guthans on a minion will be ideal. However, if everyone will be bored a few hours in, you should be fine in max ranged defense gear. Bandos/barrows armor, BSS if you can't get ckite or dfs, your rapier, etc. If you can use overloads that owns, because you can brew and still be potted. If you don't want to overload (it is kind of expensive), just bring brews and restores the old fashioned way and forget about boost potions. Bring a couple extra yaks and then a unicorn or two for after your yak is empty. If you've soloed a lot, it's extremely straightforward. You just do what you would do solo except take less damage and worry less about dealing out damage. Very easy.
  15. Guys, if Bandos's ranged attack was calculated based on magic defense, the best tank gear would be full Arma and a spectral/divine. Currently people use full Bandos and a DFS/divine. Are we really going to claim that we've used gear that is the exact opposite of ideal for Bandos for the last few years and nobody noticed? I call bull. If you want to go try out tanking with high mage def, be my guess, but I can already predict the results- you're going to get torn up.
  16. I could be mistaken here, but to me it seems like gloves and boots would universally be a waste of time. Instead of that you could be: Bloodrager making (which you mentioned) Farming and assembling 5 strong melee pots Making surge runes to take down warriors (if you lack a surgebox bind) Just to name a couple of useful things to do in your downtime. In my experience it's very rare to have the spare time to even do those three things. I suppose if you have a whole lot of downtime and extra ore after making ragers, you could make some gloves for people, but I don't see them being overly helpful.
  17. +100000000. Jesus, I can't believe someone with access to frosts is considering going to wyverns instead. Cmon man. Leave an offer for wyvern bones in for max while you do frost trips to get the money back.
  18. Agreed with above on both counts. If you just want combat and screw money, summoning, slayer, etc. then armored zombies with a salve amulet (e) and piety are the way to go. However, slayer is a really good way to train combat. Charms and effigies pour in, as well as decent drops from a lot of the tasks paying off well. The black mask bonus makes the experience still quite good compared to ordinary combat training. It's also more interesting than sitting at the same monster for weeks in my opinion. Perhaps more significantly, you'll kick yourself if you decide you want 99 slayer after you have high melee stats and end up having to train the last 15+ slayer levels without gaining combat exp for it.
  19. Could be the World Gate that Guthix used at the dawn of the first age. It's hard to say.
  20. Easiest way to get hood is to solo c6 meds on abandoned floors, rushing as much as possible. Whenever you dead end without an easy place to go next or find all the rooms, leave and try again. Kill every spider you see. Don't bother with the boss or any particularly long or annoying puzzles or GDs.
  21. Bilrach's descent began in the year 1225 of the 4th age, whereas Zamorak's betrayal of Zaros began around the year 2000 of the second age. Bilrach's descent wasn't until after the God Wars were ended and the edicts of Guthix put into place around year 4000 of the third age.
  22. Lol, unfortunately not. A couple nights ago I was playing with a 103 who was garbage. He kept going into puzzle rooms, killing everything, and then standing around waiting for somebody to come and do the puzzle. Without saying anything. Very annoying.
  23. It's not so much etiquette as it is just not doing stupid things. Armor will not save enough food to be worth making, period. One fishing spot worth of food is likely more than double the food you would save by making armor, and fishing/cooking takes about the same amount of time as mining/smithing. The fact that you believe that armor is a worthwhile use of time when there are so many other things that you could be doing instead shows that you're not ready to not enrage pro DGers. There's a reason they're called "pro." The fact that you feel that their decisions and priorities are wrong is a poor reflection on you, not them. If you want to play with people who are good, you'll have to also play well.
  24. Most people only have 2 binds. So guess what, we all start out no armour. First few rooms are brutal, people horde the food, then finally some ore appears and life gets easier. My favorite part in this whole psuedo discussion/bs affair is where somebody says that fishing is good and making armour is bad. Lol... with armour you don't need to fish, food on kills is more than enough and you can stock up bob for a boss by the end. So if your a "pro", you fish/cut lumber/then cook for 5 minutes and complain about somebody taking 2 minutes to gear up. Did you even bother to look at my dungeoneering level? I'm 93. I don't have armor bound either, genius. The first few rooms are brutal, not because of food hoarders OR lack of armor, but because the first few rooms of monsters don't drop more than a couple food if that, and the keyer needs most of it. This is true for people with plate bound and those without. The plate hardly makes a difference, because the big problems (shades, high level meleers/rangers with mages) hit just fine through a plate anyway. I've seen people with platebody bind have to fish before- it's all about how bad the first few rooms are. You can either spend a couple minutes fishing and cooking enough for the whole team to survive for a while, or you can waste a couple minutes suiting yourself with armor that will not solve the current problem of not enough HP, AND will become more and more useless as the dungeon goes on and food drops become more common. Armor is also just about useless on every boss, because their attack is high enough to tear through it like butter. If you're "pro," you help your team with the immediate problem rather than just making yourself some near useless armor while everyone else is trying to kill GDs to get some more food. One fishing spot worth of morays is almost always enough that everyone will be able to make it to some good food droppers, even if your first few rooms destroyed everyone's food supply.
  25. I've never used the reward box, but I believe it works the same. You take a blood rune, a death rune, and 7 air runes, click charge on the box, and you get one charge. No option to stick other runes in, unfortunately.
