Speaking to an audience.
Last year (my freshman year) we only had to do one big speech for English. We were allowed to choose any subject we pleased so I found something I believed and went with it. My subject was how Wal-Mart was harming the U.S. My speech had to be 5 minutes long with a slide show. I had it all done up nicely and I had even timed myself to be sure the speech was at least 5 minutes and I was about 30 seconds over. Of course I got nervous and ended up doing the speech in 2 minutes and 30 seconds -.- I ended up with a C overall. Yeah, the key to do a good presentation is... presentation. A professor of ours once said that 70% of the students that sound calm and confident pass their oral exams, not taking into account if their answers are correct. A student that sounds extremely nervous has a far greater chance to fail even though his answers might be better than the confident one.

Eating meat - right or wrong?
Please, no pics. Secondly, you don't kill a chicken by taking an egg. If you cook it before it starts to develop, it feels no pain. I also only eat free-range eggs and milk. The eggs we eat aren't chicks; they are the exact same thing as the eggs human women have; so they are not even touched by a rooster. They aren't living things, unlike chickens. And about vegetarians: I have great respect for them, if they are vegetarian because they do not agree with the conditions some animals are in. I disagree with many of that as well, but I don't think it's wrong to eat meat. Otherwise all carnivores are bad. And plants are alive as well, right? But I'm happy that Belgium has rather strict laws about animal rights; our cows don't spend their entire lives fattening in a 4x2m prison. I don't think a cow, a pig, or whatever animal that lives here, has a worse life than a wildebeast or an aardvark in Africa.

Speaking to an audience.
Me too, but when I was 12 I flinched on my first oral exam, a total black-out, that's how nervous I was. But now I barely have a problem with it anymore. I actually kinda like speeching in front of an audience. And I don't like exams, but I prefer oral exams to written exams; they're so unpersonnal and if you're wrong, you can't correct yourself. Our professors are often very friendly and witty people, so I play their game with them; I tend to joke a lot when giving answers, that calms me down and it shows I know my courses well.

Texas: You just can't make this stuff up anymore.
So are you trying to say that killing animals is good, so that we, the overpopulated human race that screws up this planet, can survive? That's what I would say when I was 16. But now, well, I might be fond of meat, but I never liked hunting. I think it's very difficult to decide what we should and should not do. It's definitely not the animal's choice to die, but nor is it another animal's choice to live its entire life trapped in some kind of stable waiting to get butchered. Apart from the animals -who are always the victim here-, I don't think it's bad that blind people can do something they'd like to do once. I could never shoot anything that's alive if I wasn't forced to do it, but I guess some people think they possess over that power. If I'd be a religious man I'd say only God can kill; but the Bible states somewhere that animals only exist to feed us, humans and I don't think he's going to strike one down every time we're hungry :|

Moshing: is it stupid?
I don't see a part of your post being: I was in mosh pits several times and I once broke my arm because of --- and that's why you are wrong. You obviously don't have experience in pits. Most older people there immediately help people who have fallen down. It's only the young brats that think it's all about themselves. Uh, yeah, so am I. And millions of others. And so far, the only bad things I've seen and heard of are caused by ego-tripping adolescents, hooligans or idiots that are tripping on whatever drug they take. You obviously don't. And I am certain Merc does.

Moshing: is it stupid?
I used to more or less like it at local parties, with people you all know and where it's more of a friendly little thing. But at a festival? Naah, festivals are for chilling out and having fun with your friends along with tens of thousends of people you don't know. And if that involveskicking and hitting people, I'd rather stay away. Besides, all the pits on Werchter (biggest festival in Belgium with around 75,000 ppl every day) consisted of pathetic 14 year old children. The average visitor was 20-25 and they were all very much irritated by those kids. I constantly got bumped by them so after half an hour a few of the surrounding elders, including me, tossed them back to the middle of the pit. That stopped them. It's damn annoying when a relatively calm band like Placebo is doing their gig and kids are bumping you all the time.

Tupac: Dead or Alive?
Because a few people believe that the numerous bullets didn't kill him and that he fled afterwards. Yeah, but why would he want to disappear? He used to make his living by appearing. Because he then knew people were after his life dumbo ;)

What do you think other tipiters are going to be?
Haha, I guess you'll be surprised to hear I'm in my 3rd year of economics at a rather elite (as in: good, not chique) university. Or perhaps you're not. Marx started that way as well. And he also didn't work a lot either, he just enjoyed the student's life. Perhaps I am going to be the disturber of this century's economics. See, that's much more like it. I would love that. Finish my studies, start my history studies and then work for a good and prosperous 25 years, meanwhile being a good father of 3-4 children and a great husband. Then retire on 55 and travel the world with my luck and spread it out all over the world.

The Borat Movie
Respek' Oh, and for the few of you that are Jewish and can't see the joke of it: Sasha Baron Cohen (the name give you a clue), the actor, comes from a rather orthodox Jewish family as well. And in the movie the only real Jews you see are the nicest old couple offering Borat and his companion a place to spend the night. If he makes a fool out of anyone, it's only out of himself.

What are you listening to right now!?
Heh. A robbery homicide shocking an entire country. You seriously live where it is at, Oy. Probably 20 of those in S̮̣̉̉o Paulo alone everyday. 20? DC has like 800 a year and that's considered a lot(that's 2-3 a day) I'm listening to the Dedicated album by ATB If you say DC has 2-3 a day, I easily believe that S̮̣̉̉o Paolo has 20. that city is like 6 times as large and there must be about 600 times as many poor people :(

It could be, I don't live there :) But at that rate, I'm wondering if you'll be one of the guys that stabs or one of the corpses? :P

:o Those people need a good long punishment as street cleaners or whatever. 2 people in Belgium robbed 2 other kids that had an iPod as well, and one of them got stabbed to death for refusing to hand it over. Perhaps that's common business in the cities of the US, but it was pretty shocking here, the entire country was stunned that people would go that far for a stupid device. How I hate greed, worst of all sins. OT now: I'm listening to the No Need to Argue album from the Cranberries.

Tall People on TIF
I'm 6'1". I'm half Dutch, half Belgian. Both are tall peoples, I even am rather small here. Most of my friends are between 6' and 6'5". It's pretty odd for a guy from 20 to be smaller than 5'9" here. My cousin is 7'; Dutch as well.

Eragon
My mate descibed it as " a [crappy] LOTR knock off" That's what I thought when I saw the trailer when I went to the new Bond movie. The score was the same genre, the darkness of the film is exactely the same atmosphere as in the lotr films, the concept is also kinda the same. But comparing a movie like that to Star wars BTTF? Come on... All fantasy stories are the same then. Star Wars: Luke/lightsaber/Luke's friends/obi-wan/Han Solo/Leia Lotr: Frodo/ring/Frodo's companions/Gandalf/Aragorn/Arwen Harry Potter: Harry/wand/Hermione & Ron/Dumbledore/Father & Mother Potter Notice how much all stories are built up as well. All dark and gloomy but eventually it all turns out for the best, even though some people had to sacrifice themselves.

"300"
I think there's already been a thread about this, but that's not important. What I find a pity is that they comlpletely tear apart a story that actually did happen. I've got a 6 hour DVD about the trojans and of course the battle of Thermypolae is discussed as well. It seems this film mocks both the Persians as well as the Greeks, looks completely unrealistic and exaggerated. If this story would've been a mythe then I'm fine with exaggeration, but what Hollywood & co make of historical facts make me sad.

Song about sickness?
Funny, thats exactly what the first thing to come into my head was, and now im humming it in my mind hehe Hahah, exactely what I was thinking as well. But there's tons of better songs that are slightly more complicated that are about diseases as well. I'd aim for Eels.

Name a Band unique to you
Yeah... they are very popular all over, but they are still very unique. You don't have to be non-mainstream to be different. (Maybe I'm not following what you're saying here:?) Well I thaught this thread was about bands not many people know. Sufjan and the Gorillaz are pretty popular. As for me: Museum and Datura are good German (postrock) bands. dEUS is my fav Belgian band, Absynthe Minded is great as well.

Tortoise and vitallic are actually pretty famous. And neither of them are indie; tortoise is post-rock and Vitallic is a DJ. But of course you did say 'most' of em, so the others I don't know might be indie. Hmm, I think Sufjan is about the most popular folk artist in the world of music lovers and the Gorillaz are (were...) HUGE in europe.

The best and worst band names ever
Good music, though. Yea, very good. I got plans and Transatlanticism recentely. I'm hooked on Plans, transatlantiscism is good as well, but I prefer plans. I've also got 'something about airplanes' and 'you can play these songs with chords'. But Plans is also my favourite album.
