  1. I think the efforts are useless. Sure, it gets rid of methods some minority of people may have used to transfer items, but it's not like those people are stopped now. Everyone will just drop trade, and as long as we have the ability to drop, any steps at all jagex takes will be pretty pointless.
  2. What's negative about what he's saying? He's saying that jagex is promoting a culture of fear and turning players into wanna-be mods. There shouldn't be such a stigma to someone not replying. Sure it's unfriendly, but we do have the ability to turn chat to friends and people don't need to freak out just because someone doesn't respond. Just because people want to be pmods by reporting as many people as they can, we have this environment of players not looking out for each other, but using each other when they can to report each other and raise their own chances in becoming a pmod. How is it Jagex' fault, that certain players believe they have higher chances of reporting random people who don't respond? I'd like to know which role Jagex, as a company plays in the way people choose to think. Its basically blaiming Jagex for letting stupid people play, isn't it? It's jagex's fault because of how they've implemented the reporting system. They shouldn't have made it public that reporting increases your chances of becoming a pmod. Now we have a community where someone will report you if you say "tip it" because they think they'll become a pmod. Granted the report system is great for obvious reasons, but it also creates just a really bad environment that we didn't have before pmods were introduced. This thread is based on the fact that people report , in hopes of becoming a p mod. Maybe we should return to before there were no p mods, and everyone could put an auto character selling gold, items, characters. Advertising websites. Scamming people openly . Extensively swearing and being tards to other players in general. These reasons are why we now have pmods, to those of you who didn't play before that. So now is the time to weigh the scales, is it, or is it not worth it having some people offended by some newb who "reports" them for botting. Or is it more important to take away player mods, and have a massive increase in what I mentioned above in the situation before player mods? This whole thread is typical RS scenario. 1.Jagex puts in pmods , which actually DO HELP. 2. Someone gets pissed off over some ordeal and starts a motion to get rid of pmods, as they in their own opinion absolutely were better off without them.. I didn't say pmods should be removed. I said the whole system should be changed. Pmods shouldn't become pmods based off mass reporting. Or at least jagex should state reporting doesn't make you a pmod. All too often someone eagerly reports someone for saying something like "di on RANDOM_NAME," then the report comes to someone who doesn't know what's going on, and the guy gets banned. The problem is the lengths people go in reporting anything and everything they possibly can. Don't remove pmods, remove the public perception that reporting makes you become one.

  5. They're going to pretty crazy measures here. I really, really hope they leave dropping items alone. Drop parties aren't always about giving away all of your items to random people. They're sometimes parties for your friends. Time to move it to the house.
  6. That's a nice theory. Because some people waste too much time on it, they take it away from everyone to protect people? Ever heard of self accountability? People are 13+ to sign up, they should be responsible for themselves. I doubt your theory's right at all.
  7. This mouse looks like a pretty good deal: http://www.compusa.com/products/product ... performics Or you could get the standard $30 microsoft one that most stores sell, which works great.
  8. For those that don't know, it dropped to number 2.
  9. It's definitely been a bad year for rares. If jagex hadn't made any updates this year, they may have continued with their 10x per year growth rate they used to have in their hayday when jagex hadn't started effecting the economy so much.
  10. Sure, why not. They've already been doing that with a lot of items. Mess up the game even more. While we're getting rid of the ability to drop items, make it so when you pk someone the three items they drop get turned into their GE equivalence. Sounds like we're entering a perfect utopia eh?
  11. Duuuuude! And you would get logged out for inactivity. That's what I mean, ordinary things people now take for granted was 10x harder before. Back on topic, I saw people trying to buy santas for 11 mil but no one was selling. People are madly trying to snatch up ultra-cheap rares but no one is selling for 50% the price before the duel update. Hey, and I resent the word "obssessed" just because people think about the market doesn't mean they spend every waking moment on it. LoL, I was logged for innactivity more than once during these big trades and sometimes people would change their mind because they didnt want to go through adding all that gold again! Glad someone else was around back then to have experienced it :) VIrus: im happy for you and your friend qeltar, good day. It made those big trades pretty suspenseful though. After all that waiting, hoping the person actually clicks accept. :P
  12. Ehh...I'd say now removing RWT is a higher priority to jagex than not upsetting players. Need I point out exhibit A?
  13. It goes without saying that jagex has the ability to shut down the game, and in that sense has control, obviously. Nobody means we literally own jagex. But from a common sense perspective, jagex will want to make updates that will please the majority of players, and our leverage towards that is that we pay membership fees to keep the game running. They can do whatever they want, but there will be financial repercussions for bad decisions.
  14. We might as well look into the future now. What could jagex possibly do next? I'll tell you what's next. First, let's take a look at jagex's philosophy as of now: So Mark gave jagex's new philosophy. A fallacious either or two extremes type situation. Often used as propaganda in having people pick a side. As Mark insinuated, they're going with option 1) A Runescape with no cheating, or unfairness? - and sacrificing 2) One less way to make money. The question is, how far can they push this ideology? It's clear that they want to remove RWT from the root and will take any lengths to do it (hence ruining the game for a core group of paying members). Nobody's off limits now. But back to the game plan. We're jagex, and we have to change this game so RWT cannot possibly ever occur. What do we do next? First, we get rid of trading. Transactions can only occur now in the grand exchange. But of course, we can't have people exchanging large amounts of cash. That would promote real world trading. We'll be limited to 100k cash trades an hour, and only one trade of over 1mil a day. Will we have a gp cap for trading? Why not. It couldn't hurt. Those party hats are just ruining the game. And it doesn't matter if we make another core group of players quit. We're making the game a safer and more enjoyable experience! Ok, now that we've fixed trading, we've got another problem. People might still abuse the wild, treating it like the old way of dueling. Therefore, we've made a very important change! Upon reaching the wild barrier, you are no longer allowed to bring over 1500gp. This will ensure no cash is transferred via this new abusive method of "pk transferring." To ensure rares aren't transferred either, when the player dies, all items automatically are transferred into their high alchemy equivalent and dropped onto the ground. This is the only way now of having items dropped, because.... To combat the last issue of rwt, we have made one very important change! You may have noticed a few items have the "destroy" option rather than "drop." We have decided that for the overall benefit of the game to do away with this "drop" feature. You now can only destroy your items. We have added a new feature in the bank to quickly drop items into a bank disposal now for ease of getting rid of items. This shall add better functionality for everyone, and make the game a much more enjoyable experience now that the evils of RWT are gone. We know this is a very large update and might possibly upset a large majority of you. To be sure, we took an advanced private survey of a few select members. It turns out only 10% of players would plan on continuing to pay for their membership, but in the grand scheme of things, we will view this as a triumph against real world trading. It is very important we take measures to ensure that even though a few impractical elements of the game are gone, we successfully remove the RWT issue. For the projected 1000 players left, we hope you enjoy these changes and hope to continue making runescape an enjoyable experience for everyone!
  15. Not to burst your bubble or anything, or to really butt into the conversation, but communism didn't fail, and in fact never really existed. What you are refering toas communism was in fact socialism (a totalitarian state, rather than a class-less state). True Marxist communism has never actually existed. Either way you know what he means. The rares argument often comes down to this viewpoint. Some people think rares are an unfair advantage and think it's not fair for them to be in the game and that they ruin the game for others. They want everyone to be exactly equal in every way possible - aka a communist ideology. Pro-rares people think that rares do no harm to the game. In terms of an unfair advantage, they believe if there is one, it's been largely negated and more by the fact that new players nowadays get xp and money at a much faster rate, so that one thing is ok. I own a few rares and don't see how anyone could think they negatively effect the game. If you don't own one, they don't effect you. If you're lucky enough to have some, you'll be making some good money. That's where the capitalist "it takes money to make money" view comes in.
  16. All these measures they're taking seem so pointless, because in the grand scheme of things, people can always find a remote location and just drop trade. Not only does that not send out red flags to jagex, but as long as we still have the ability to drop items (for a few weeks at least), people will be able to transfer anything. The whole thing is just so hypocritical. They claim they're doing this to make it a better, more enjoyable game. But from what I'm seeing, 90% of people here are finding this line of updating extremely frustrating and see jagex going down a path of ruining the game, not making it better. I'm honestly getting worried about the GE too meili. If anything, rares are going down not because of duel arena changes, but because people are afraid jagex will make it so you can only trade 3k cash at once or something.
  17. I'd like to see alot of people jump ship to be honest. Seeing as nobody seems to have any respect for the people who put time and effort into making the game, they shouldn't have any respect for the people RENTING their chars. Yes, you rent them, so don't fool yourselves into thinking that you actually have anything at all to say. Yeah, we're renting characters, but with real money. We have leverage. It's not an issue of respect. Because we're playing this game over other games we have respect for the game and it's makers. We just don't respect this particular choice of the game's makers. By playing it we're required to respect their every choice just because?
  18. The root of the problem with RWT is that they can trade their items. If we want to make the game perfect, why not just remove all methods of transfering of items: option 2! Just keep removing methods of making money until the game is safe and enjoyable for everyone. Or until there's nothing left to do in the game. That too would solve the problem of autoers.
  19. Hahaha! He's using the two extremes fallacy. That's an actual form of propaganda. If we're giving jagex the thumbs up to go ahead with plan 1 over 2 in every situation, we might as well jump ship now. I hope they don't take that route. For the sake of this game.
  20. I heard that picture was a fake, just making fun of jagex's attitude on this. As far as I know they haven't made a statement in response to the complaints, and it's possible that as we speak they're debating together, fully acknowledging that the update was ridiculous. The stakers are acknowledging this too, and they have every right to. They're not whining - when the game is taken away from them, when their time, the most valuable thing, is taken from them, they have more than enough reason to argue and debate this change. Jagex often changes things back, so why shouldn't they post in the rant forums if it's not set in stone that this is permanent? I don't take this personally, but I can see when a group of people have had something really unfair done to them.
  21. I hope they throw it in the bin. History proves that listening to players and their complaints merely screws it up more. This post actually does more negative effect in the long run. What? How could they possibly screw up staking more? They KILLED it. Yes, your point being, what? Stakers don't own RS, they need to shut up and get over it. And quick. The comic raise up to 5k per 15 minutes should be a big sign, enough for even dumb people to understand that Jagex has made their decision, and if not respected, than stop playing. And by all means stop paying $5. I'm sure even Jagex would rather miss out on money than keep having a barrel of rotten apples intent on spoiling the bunch. Fook, we understand that you think just dm'ing in the wild is fine, but jagex had a great system in place that people could all meet together and have duels. Whether or not a duel can occur in the wild like it would in the arena has no bearing. The point is that jagex had a great thing going for people. Those people invested a ton of time into it. And jagex just took it away and ruined the practicality of it, turning the duel arena into another gimmicky minigame. Just because it doesn't effect you doesn't mean it doesn't effect a lot of other people. Qeltar, great article. I was thinking of writing something along the same lines, but you did a perfect job. Really though, with the way they're approaching rwt, what'll be next? Protecting us from drop trading by limiting us to only be able to drop 3k on the floor at once? Only allowing us to drop 1 item per hour? Making it so we can only drop items at certain predetermined locations? They've already made items like spinach rolls needlessly untradable, what else are they going to do? By taking these drastic measures to protect the 'honest players,' they're ruining the game for them. I can't help ask if the end really justify the means. I understand that YOU think there was a stable duel system running. But. Is it rational that a level 50 has more money than someone level 99 smithing who worked for it? Is it rational that a level 50 has BILLIONS worth in items, gained in few months, when someone else playing the exact same game for longer has practically nothing, seeing as the person wanted to .. hmm lets just say construct, or do smithing. I'm sure you can see how imbalanced that is. It was ridiculous that stakers, a mere different kind of fighter, with stats so obvious and so easy to get, could be the most powerful people in RS, moneywise. Lets face it, its only because people can't make millions in a matter of minutes, that they whine like female dogs now. Well news flash, people played before staking was changed, and they certainly will AFTER. I know I will, and I hope that the ones who played for staking ONLY, actually do quit. Either that or stop whining. I'm not whining. Why would I be whining? This update doesn't effect me. I don't play rs anymore. But I'm able to realize when jagex did an idiotic thing. You think that since the duel arena allowed people to make millions in a short period of time, it's not a legitimate part of the game, nor a legitimate way to make money. But you're not against dm'ing in the wild? Regardless, the amount of money they make should have no bearing on anything. What about merchanting? Because they can make more money than a smith can, merchanting's a bad part of the game? What ever happened to playing the game how you want to play it, making what you want to make out of it? That's what the game's about. Not you deciding what's a decent way to make money and what isn't. I don't understand why you think dueling isn't a legitimate way to make money, but it's been implemented as part of the game for several years now. And people have been playing with that ever since they joined. Yes, we've been around when dueling wasn't around, but what's that matter? It's around now, and it made no sense whatsoever for jagex to remove it.
  22. I hope they throw it in the bin. History proves that listening to players and their complaints merely screws it up more. This post actually does more negative effect in the long run. What? Just because it doesn't effect you doesn't mean it doesn't effect a lot of other people. I don't know what you have against stakers, calling them rotten apples, but to me, they have a genuine reason to be upset. They play rs for staking, just like you play rs for whatever reason you do. What if they took away the reason you play rs? You'd complain. And the last thing you'd want would be stakers laughing at you and calling you an idiot, telling you to go play another game and give up because you're not worth it to jagex. Qeltar, great article. I was thinking of writing something along the same lines, but you did a perfect job. Really though, with the way they're approaching rwt, what'll be next? 23. I'd think you'd run the risk of getting banned for real world trading as a middle man if millions of gp are flowing in and out of your account all the time. Personally I wouldn't risk being a middle man even if both parties trusted me. It wouldn't be worth it.
  24. Most people can hear that, unless they're older than around 40. It's just a high frequency. As for #2, those are probably a mild form of floaters. You notice them when you're looking at a light solid color, like the sky or a white ceiling? I'd bring it up with your eye doctor but it's probably nothing.
  25. You'll get some level 3 clue scrolls ranging jellies and I think there are still safe spots left, so I'd do jellies. That's what I raised my ranged up to 70 on.
