  1. So, according to the executive partner of Slaughter and May, the current financial situation has led to a massive increase in the need for lawyers. Suddenly, I'm not viewing this as a uni-laterally bad thing anymore O:)
  2. PLEASE say you did not just compare Das Kapital with Obama's policy, thats like comparing a moderate right wing party to Mein Kampf, dear god. There is a little more to the political spectrum than communists and fascists. Also, can people please stop throwing the word liberal around in a tone that suggests it is synonymous with "child molestor" or "serial genocidal maniac"? Liberal means nothing more than favouring individual liberty, free trade, and moderate reform. I'd also like to hear which policies of the democrat's that the republicans disagree with - so far I've heard nothing more than ad hominem and personal attacks (most of which are of questionable base) Also, I don't understand the whole "liberalism results in downfall of nation" most of Europe has had more liberal governments than the US for years and have successfully avoided massive economic conflicts/useless wars/summoning the four horseman of the apocalypse. Can a republican the logical steps that result in this conclusion?
  3. Unreciprocated emotion/feelings/love would probably do (unreciprocated essentially means given, but not returned)
  4. Ha, she thinks shes got it bad, try giving her the cherie blair treatment [hide=warning, seriously terrifying site inside][/hide]
  5. Agree with this 100% I did the whole "never study for a test" in High school, got into university just fine. THEN the oxford law reading list hit me square in the face and I knew then I had to seriously change my work ethic. I write this post after revising for 8 hours today, as I have done for the past week, for ONE 3 hour contract law exam, I still have hundreds of case names to memorise and points of law to comprehend. Get good at studying and realise that these tests have so much more subject matter that you physically cannot get it all into your mind the night before.
  6. 2nding this. If man fudged with it and killed it off directly or with a reasonable amount of undue interference then ok, theres a problem then, but some species are going to die out just because of natural selection, leave it alone. Yeah but I could happily say with no proof that a DAMN lot of species are dying out becaause of us; deforestation, increasing temperature further than a lot can adapt(not too bad yet) and simply urbanising and farming a large percentage of land is going to kill off species, and is! obviously species die out naturally but humans are contributing to it SO much. its really sad.. and the worst bit is that we still don't do anthing (really) we don't adress the fundamental issues that are causing this. extinction is only going to get A LOT worse. What we can do? make our governments go green, protests etc. it HAS to be done. cut down on using cars, i mean how many people drive to work with 1 person in the car EVERYDAY its caining off the atmosphere. stop furthering our medical capabilities, its kinda hard to say but when are we going to stop growing? far too many people and we still all want to live longer, tbh quite a lot of illnesses are blatently caused by our unhealthy and un nutritional lifestyles and diets. i have heard that in america many people dont even walk to the shops, i mean.. that aying something isn't it. we have to stop buying and consuming so much POINTLESS crap, its caining of the rainforests without us even realising. did you know that nutella used to support one of the largest agricultural deforestation for palm oil? many companies such as McDonalds, Cadburies, Nestle etc are all contributing to MAJOR deforestation. Stop complaining about food prices and gas prices, they can't be low because supply at the moment CAN'T meet demand, we all need to eat but we'll have to cut back on things to do so. in a capitalist world to have the super rich you have the super poor, to have the rich you need the poor, get what im saying? if you want the world to carry on like it is we can't all be well off and doing well for ourselves. continuous economic growth is not possible in a finite world. All in all we need a complete social reformation, which i think isn't going to happen, the way we all live is destructive, we all want more, we all want a "better" life, a new car, a new tv, to live longer. think about this, we all think on an individual level, and how much do YOU help screw over nature, now think about how many people are doing the same thing possibly on an even bigger scale. think about the "urbanisation"(americanisation) of india and china and think about how many people live there(billions). something has to happen but it won't.. even with these feelings im still on my compurter in my heated house, i try not to buy food that encourages deforestation and to bank in ethical banks but its not enough. People look at the way you live, do you NEED that new computer or that new Xbox or that new DS. do you NEED those more fasionable clothes because the others are out of season, do you NEED that tacky key ring you got in Paris that you'll probally throw away after a few yers. Do you NEED a bigger car, better shoes etc.. the answer is NO but we all seem to THINK we do. life is 100% not about possetions and to be fair thats inarguable. now i know a lot of people are going to say that a lot fo stuff we need, but if you think about it we don't. if you care about the enviroment and animals then why not do something, speak up to the governments that really can make a HUGE impact. we cant go on this way.. i know that im doing my bit, i WILL NOT let anymore coal stations be built in the uk, im willing to go to prison if i have to for this cause because it NOT ON! peace out and think about what i said please before i posted this i saw this an example of why we're dooming other animals and eventually ourselves. you litterally make me SICK skatedog.. they aren't reproducing quick enough or whatever because of us destroying their enviroment. ARGH you sick sick man. [/hide] Wow, for someone who seems to be agreeing with me you sure seem to be ranting at me. Did you miss the part where I said if humanity is at fault then we should prevent this happening? If you can give me some proof that humanity is to blame for the destruction of this species (and I mean solid proof, not general environazi statements about global warming or deforestation). Also, even if there was a solid link between a declining species and human activity there would still need to be a detailed assessment of costs/benefits to ensuring their survival. Whilst I'm willing to make concessions generally I'm sure as hell not going to change my entire lifestyle just to keep 100 reptiles alive, sorry. Also, before you call skatedog out on being SICK SICK I TELL YOU, you may want to actually find some evidence that environment destruction has actually had an effect on this particular case. i get really pissed off about this because of human arogance. i can't find solid proof for this, do you need solid proof for everything? Yes, an argument without proof is useless, simple factthis individual case maybe not but skatedog said 'Sure species contribute greatly to the ecosystem and other systems, but if the species is already at 100 left or so, they aren't doing much for the 4 billion humans?' that is what i find sick, that view. i also find it pretty screwed up how you can put a price on animals or species, we're losing touch with our roots and you prooved it. life shouldnt be about costs and money it should be about livving, but living the way we are is clearly affecting animals. Without a doubt the way we live is affecting other animals, but I'm not about to sacrifice human life for animal life anytime soon, lets take your example about coal stations in the UK, ok, lets use only renewable energy, a considerably more expensive type of energy - its obvious that energy companies arent going to pay that price tag themselves, so itll get passed onto the consumer, the elderly in this country in the UK are already struggling to pay winter heating bills and for the safety of 100 turtles potentially thousands of grandparents have been endangered, see, when you realise humans need looking after its not so easy. maybe its hard for you to understand but think about how much land is now effectively our habitat, pretty much all animals find it extremely hard to survive in that enviroment that we're creating. at the same time we're destroying and shrinking their habitats so they have even less room to hunt, mate, just live! you don't need proof for everything, some things are just obviousIf its that obvious, then it should be pretty easy to prove, an increases in humans is going to damage other animals but we're completely ruining their world, polluting rivers, burning forests. Look that isn't just general enviromental whatever(well it is) but those are the reasons that species are finding it hard and survive, that is the be all and end all. hunting obviously contributes as well but it all adds up. i dunno i'm just pissed off that we're killing our natural world.. and seemingly not caring we need action, not assessments.. Some comments in bold, but I'm going to have one last crack at getting you to understand my viewpoint. There are 3 potential ways that a species can go extinct, each of which has a varying degree of human impact and various responses. 1) The species is going extinct solely because of irresponsible human activity. I suppose the best example of this would be say, the hunting of Siberian tigers, or maybe gorrilas. In this case I fully support any sanction that can prevent this kind of tragedy and you will find no evidence of me saying otherwise. If this viewpoint has come across to you from me then you have either misinterpreted, misunderstood, or somehow got confused about what I have written, or there has been a typo on my part. If you can find such an example I will be glad to correct it. 2) The species is going extinct and humanity has indirectly had an effect on it, I suppose a good example here would be a creature affected by habitat destruction, or global warming. In this case I would fully support an alteration of human activity if (and this is the important part that I've been trying to stress) the resulting impact on humanity is massively disproportionate. If all it will take to save the siberian hunting spider (that fakes a limp in 3 of its 8 legs to attract its trusting prey, the so called samaritan squirrel) is me recycling a newspaper then I will gladly do so. If however to save a turtle the entire energy system of the UK would need to be revamped at massive social and economic cost then sorry, no dice. 3) The species is going extinct regardless of humanity. I hope I don't have to explain natural selection but I'm pretty sure you know that, in layman's terms, its is a process of earth that is NOT TO BE FUDGED WITH. If a creature is dying out due to inferior genes then keeping it alive artificially would be the most unnatural thing to do. In this case I would support humanity leaving damn well alone. Now, I'm not sure how our dear turtles fit into this analysis. If you can show me that human activity has put our turtles into places 1 or 2 (and just saying durrr global warming doesnt prove that, there are millions of species not affected by global warming) then sure, we can then move to the next stage of doing something about it. Finally, your slogan of "we need action, not assessments" is, well, just a slogan, and thus useless. Having studied earth sciences and geography myself (and living with 5 degree level geography and earth science students) I can tell you that action without assessment is quite possibly the most stupid and worse possible route to take. Off the top of my head the "must take action now!!!" route lead to the cessation of spraying DDT (a poisonous insecticide) over crops in Africa, this made the crops marginally more healthy, but also resulted in a massive increase in mosquitoes and you guessed it, Malaria. Don't get me wrong, I don't want any animal to go needlessly extinct, but to try to save them all is unnatural, unachievable and pointless.

  9. Having had a chat with my JYA college children and their politics tutor, I am genuinely terrified as to the fate of the USA if McCain or Palin get anywhere near power.
  10. I find the Daily Mail to be the last bastion of truth, honesty and common sense left in the British Isles, informing the public of the truth that the government doesnt want you to be released. Only be adhering to the principles espoused in this frankly godlike paper can the problems of the UK be truly solved /sarcasm, the daily mail is a rag, I wouldn't wrap my fish and chips in it
  11. Gods I hope they don't Zelda needs to remain as dungeon -> new item/mechanic -> use item/mechanic -> kill boss -> repeat Its simple, it works, and its fun, the day I need to wonder whether to level up my strength to use my +44 deku hammer or speed to goron roll technique faster is the day the zelda franchise dies.

Oh yeah dont get me wrong, any idiot with a microphone can ruin a game (well, at least until you hit the mute player option). It just seems that younger people are more predisposed to do that kind of thing, I don't mean all of them, but you know, probability and all that.
  13. Are we talking singing comedians or just comedians in general? If just singing comedians I wouldnt hesistate to recommend Stephen Lynch (although his songs may be a little...adult I guess) If comedians in general, I could name at least 10 better ones, but I guess thats because I don't rate Al much.
  14. Excellent, I would not wish to run out of Twinnings tea and digestive biscuits, one would drop one's monocle out of shock. Seriously though, thats pretty good news, for me at least

ESRB = good thing, severly limits the pre-pubescent teen shouting down a mic in online games and thats just fine by me. Also, are all you underageys that bad at persuading your parents/sibling/adult of requisite age to get it for you? Come on
  16. All this talk of economic gloom and doom, yet my outgoings, income, loans, taxes and almost everything else seem to be exactly the same :? How does this economic event affect the average joe (or jack) tip.it forums?
  17. Bullfrog productions, Cavedog entertainment (just for TA), id software (for general services to gaming) and Oddworld inhabitants (for creating Abe, screw strangers wrath) For more modern ones, I suppose valve, and the creative assembly
  18. I have to say, of all the unlockables, I've found the medics the most fun, especially the ubersaw - all you need is a bad spy behind your lines and free ubercharge :D. Although, hearing the crit stream of a backburner is fun I'll grant you :)
  19. I was once banned from a DoD server for crouching under a headshot thats right - the ctrl button is ILLEGAL
  20. Hey guys, Seeing the amount of work you put into this (I think its awesome the community stepped forward to keep such a useful index going) I'd be glad to sticky it for you. One proviso - I won't be able to dedicate masses of time to keep it updated like the much missed Abelmisi due to going back to uni soon so I'll leave it in the hands of the OP (although, I will of course keep an eye on it and provide any modly influence that is require). Its also great to having something to point people to to prevent duplicate topics from my point of view. Once again, nice work *stickified*
  21. Having real fun on a Chosen but goddamn uni is coming around again *grumble* Is it just me that enjoys hurting bright wizards? I don't know why they are so satisfying to pound on, maybe because they're ginger or something :? ?
  22. Mortal Kombat: Sub Zero Mythologies on the ps1 Walk right -> kick -> walk -> kick -> jump -> fall down hole -> repeat

Wow, even if you totally ignore the whole video games side, that is pretty much the entire list of "do NOT do" things for a lawyer. What an arse.
  24. I've had a team of 10 people flee from me as an ubered spy (only person around to uber I guess, I wasn't expecting an uber myself :) ) I stalled for a second or so, not really sure what to do, until I realised, all those running had their backs to me. Got 28 in that life
  25. DK2 is XP compatible. Atleast for me it is. But that lack of DK3 makes me shed a single, silent tear at the mere thought of it. Yeah i've followed every compatability guide I can find, but nothing seems to work for me, I had some luck with -nosound but its just not the same without the creepy dungeon over-voice telling you "your floor is too bumpy! Order your minions to jump up and down" and the like. I do have an old PC at a relations I can play it on luckily, but I will go and upset myself watching the DK3 trailer on the DK2 and get all angry at whoever canned it.
