  1. I would blame the GOA more than EA or Mythic, they are in charge of the stuff over there in the UK. /agree and well, GOA havent been the best so far, bless them, they've tried but by god theres been a couple of pretty bigs stalls and failures. Went for a runepriest in the end, first time I've ever had fun healing in an MMO and im still capable of decent damage
  2. I would kill for a downloadable and vista/xp compatible version of Dungeon Keeper 2 (yes I've tried endless compatability things, no it doesnt work). I would totally pay full price for that, or a surprise release of DK3, that would be nice
  3. Ladies and gentlemen, I present the biggest obstacle to reconciling this issue (in europe at least) As long as the ECHR remains part of EC and UK law there will be no legislation that forces one side to curtail to the other - homosexuals will be unable to demand a marriage in a church/religious manner and the church will not be able to stop a civic union (or however you wish to phrase it) being available as a substitute. Provided homosexual couples have an avenue to gain the same rights as a hetrosexual couple I see no problem.

DS, I don't know why, I just innately prefer the type of games/control methods.
  5. Heh just uber a demoman or even a pyro and any turret is pretty easy to take out. That or a half decent spy provided the sentries arent too close (hell, if the engineers are the usual rubbish I see - i.e. sit behind sentry and swing wrench then you dont even need to be a good spy)
  6. now now, lets keep WAR friendly...At least, I think we can :P SE preorder here - patching as we speak - any other EU players on here? First class is going to either be a shaman/black orc for destruction or Ironbreaker for order, damned if I can choose though

It seems Wizard we're arguing over a different basis that can never be resolved, you think the foetus is separate from the mother at conception whereas I consider it only to be a separate human life once it reaches the stage of viability (or whatever you wish to call it - although, you mention this in your discussion of my arm analogy - "given due time" etc, it seems you recognise, at least subconsiously, the importance of viability). I think that these views are based in the realms of personal belief (and I don't necessarily mean religious ones) - who knows where life begins? No-one (at least, I doubt an internet forum is about to discover it) so maybe this is just one of those debates that simply comes down to personal gut feelings. I'll consider our abortion debate concluded at it seems no one will change anyones view on when life begins/a soul emerges or however we wish to phrase it. I still don't think you understand my argument on rights - I mean rights in a very legal sense (and this is getting away from the whole abortion debate as well, it seems to be a moral choice). Rights in a legal sense simply means an ability given to a person by law for a purpose; a landowner has a right to sell his land, a person has a right to be free from attack etc etc. What defines these rights therefore is who ever creates the law - bringing us down into the realm of politics. You make a great deal about egalitarianism but, I have to say, that is just another political belief on what people should have what rights. Equal rights are indeed a much desired thing in modern society (as it should be, to a point) but I'll state again, in a legal sense (i.e. in the sense that actually allows one to enforce said rights) there are no rights, other than those created by the legislature, thus, they can be unequal, maybe even should be unequal should the situation demand it (hell, whilst unilateral and unassailable equal human rights in its purest sense sounds like a great thing, I can assure its not). The above paragraph is a fairly tiny summary of what i'd like to try and explain about legal rights (and why they are the most important, at least in western culture) but without dragging up my jurisprudence notes I can't go into massive detail, so, I hope you understand (and I don't mean to patronise, and I certainly don't mean agree), feel free to reply if you want more detail and I'll gladly work on something (although, I'll consider our abortion debate sidelined/over as I really don't see it going anywhere other than a "its separate/no its not" argument to which nobody really has an answer).

My way wasn't denying anybody a right, in my way everyone, male or female has the right to do what they want with their body - surely nothing could be more equal? If a man wanted to cut off his arm, his decision, if a woman wants to remove a foetus dependant on her, so be it. I fail to see how a "you can do what you want with your own self" is a sexist right. Wrong I'm afraid, there is no such thing as a complete, undeniable right (unless you want to bring in a divine source, but then of course, we'd have a whole argument over God, Allah or the deity of your choice, anyway i'm pretty sure you aren't arguing the religious angle, feel free to bring that up if you wish but ill presume against it for now). Rights, as well as privileges are given by society, nothing more to it than that - if society (either as a whole through democracy, or part through dictatorship) decides that a right exists, then it exists, if society decides no, the right doesn't exist, simple as that really. All the hope and dreams and pleas to the opposite are incorrect, rights are a human creation that whilst apply at birth, are certainly not some inner flame of unassailable protection you seem to be making them out to be. Its a harsh realisation, but there we go. I'm not playing a game, but I'll explain my rationale (again). I believe it is ever persons right (and of course, this will only be the case if society should deem it so) that everyone can do as they wish with their own body, be it beneficial or otherwise. I fail to see any good argument against this fundamental right (although feel free to argue against it if you wish). Whilst this creates inherently unequal results (i.e. a woman can choose to abort a foetus in her own body, whilst a man will never be presented with such a scenario) these results are created only because of inherent inequalities (in a purely biological sense, which no sane person could deny) between the genders which any sensible legal system should incorporate. TL:DR women arent given the right to abort because they are women, they are given the right to do what they want to do with their bodies because they are human
  9. I've seen a Jaziek online on their servers...I wondered if it was you :P I tend to just go under the name of Jak if im online on TF2, maybe ill see you about sometime (if uni isnt all inconsiderate and gets in the way)

Just so you know, you aren't really going anywhere with this point - laws and rights exist based on gender everywhere (certainly in the UK, and hopefully other legal systems worth tuppence). Sometimes one gender will require a little more from a legal system simply because of how the genders operate and it certainly doesn't amount to the recission of female suffrage. Rights can, should be and have been established on the basis of gender - just because the genders are equal doesn't mean they are the same.
  11. 8-) I think I owe that heavy a pint

As I say in this thread whenever it pops up Woman's body, Woman's choice You can argue the social impacts, political and moral reasonings all you want, at the end of the day, abortion will happen whether it is legal or not - pushing it underground will just have the effect of making the whole thing dangerous and illicit (read: same as alcohol, the sex industry, soft drugs). I wouldn't stay in any country that would take away such a fundamental human choice as what we do with our bodies.
  13. I am genuinely waiting for a child to swallow something, choke, and the media to blame the Kirby series. Really, I wouldn't be surprised.
  14. so, the fact i've been on holiday since june 14th and dont have to go back for over a month yet wouldn't bug you guys at all then :P

I have absolutely no problem paying taxes if they go to the deserving, or rather, as long as there is a system that makes it as sure as possible (100% perfect government agency? Not likely). I'll regret saying this when I'm a lawyer and have to pay stupid% of my income to the state, but I'm sure I can find a way around that  - the line between tax avoidance and evasion is the width of a prison cell bar after all
  16. Seconding this Brought up in a similarly european way (part german) being introduced to beer and wine at a fairly early age and being used to it. Always been partial to a drink, never had a great deal of fuss made over it, never done me an iota of harm. Mindset is the most important thing to change, not the arbritrary legislation behind alcohol's trade
  17. baron8000 replied to sohkmj1's topic in Off-Topic
I want 500 of that funny spider drone with a laser on top  And would you like some massive double lazer shooting techbots with that :D [hide=][/hide]
  18. baron8000 replied to sohkmj1's topic in Off-Topic
These threads never have enough love for the creations of Chris Taylor: namely total annihilation (old game now, but I'd take it over C+C any day) and the fairly new Supreme Commander. [hide=][/hide] I'll let the graphics speak for itself, but slip in a few details about the ability to zoom the map in to seeing the smallest combat bot (and realising its still as big as a tree) or all the way out so the units are nothing more than strategic map markers allowing the co-ordination of massive scale attacks. Oh, and to whoever disliked the population-cap in games, this game has none, and the ability to order your units in blocks of 500 :D, this is the game for massive scale battles.

can go online now if anyone wants a brawl with a amateur Edit - 2578-4732-3295, A friend code might help eh ;)
  20. baron8000 replied to Caxis's topic in Off-Topic
It's basically like they do on Pokémon fansites. Certain characters are by their nature more powerful than others. By sort of a natural consensus, those characters are banded into a higher tier, and weaker characters put into a lower tier. A character like Marth, who is immensely powerful with the Death Grab, would be placed in the Higher Tier, whilst someone like Luigi, who's completely useless, would be placed in the lower tier. I'm looking for your FC... but you've not posted it yet. ;) By the way - Someone update the list! :D I...may not know how to find it :P. Thanks for the explanation of tiers btw guys, I had an inkling it would be something like that but thanks for clearing it up for me. As soon as I have time I'll post it up, too late now and I just got my next term's reading list dumped on me (land law...thrilling) but I hope to be royally whooped by some of you soon :D
  21. baron8000 replied to Caxis's topic in Off-Topic
Well I suppose I should take the plunge online :D Will be online from...say 2pm GMT? Ready to get caned by you online pro's and will post my friend code as soon as I'm home. Although, I say now my internet is fairly shoddy so it may not cope well with people terribly far away from the UK. Also - I have to ask, whats all this tier business? How does one determine what is top/bottom and what characters are what tiers in brawl (I must admit, my favoured character is King Dedede) EDIT - change of plan, uber busy, maybe later :)
  22. Now now, I play with items ;) I must admit I never played melee, but I loved the original and have played brawl since it came out and I can't imagine the game without items, although I play just for the fun and insanity of it rather than massively competitively or anything like that. Playing with friends in real life with items on (and on high spawn no less) is just a new kind of craziness: having to watch out for a bomb in the back, being pinned by a fire flower, the satisfaction of hitting a home run with the bat or the sheer madness that results whenever a smash ball/golden hammer spawns is brilliant; first the mad rush to claim it and second the mad rush to avoid the thing if you missed out! final note - poke balls I have the most terrible luck on, yet I am a lucky sod when it comes to smash balls, pros and cons eh :D
  23. Living near weston (I'm from bristol) that place held a lot of great memories for me and I'm sad to see it go, ok so it wasnt the most modern, fancy or amazing place but it had a special something. I feel sorry for the poor sod who bought the thing within the last 6 months or so
  24. So, took a trip into STV for the first time yesterday and I have never ganked/been ganked so many times in my life in such a short space of time  The only thing that bugs me is someone say 5 levels higher than me (a level difference I can't overcome, don't know if anyone can) destroys me before I can flee (although, as a hunter, most high levels can be dealt with using a freezing trap and a WTFRUN tactic). Just part of the game I guess :D
  25. So, despite being on a PvP server I've never experienced much more than the odd similar level running past in a zone (yet to die to a similar level killing me :) ) All changed yesterday - walked out of one of the SM instance with 4 other hordies and stumbled across a five pack of alliance waiting to go into the instance - a few minutes later the gnome corpses were everywhere \ (yes I realise this is pretty small stuff, but it made me happy to experience some decent, spontaneous pvp for a change :P )
