  1. Exactly, until we see how the GrEx works it is literally speculation. If the Grex allows buyers to easily buy 1k worth of coal or other items, by buying up small allotments (10 here from person X, 200 there from person Y, etc. etc.) then I can see some market shifts. The power of the merchant comes from leveraged selling. I work at a library, and most of the people playing I see are children. I know these kids, and while they are good kids, frankly, they do not have the patience to mine 1k coal or the like, so they will mine a little here or there and give up. We do not pay 190 for coal because it is worth that much; we pay 190 because the time saved in buying in bulk is worth that extra money. On their own potatoes, raw yak meat, and bowls of water are relatively worthless, but package them together in a 1k bundle at each and you have a nice 157k package of exp. Priced right, it could blow lobsters out of the market in terms of price per exp. As for rares being the backbone of the economy, I would have to disagree. Rares are, honestly too rare to be as big a factor as people say. A phat is too valuable to be worn around, and if people do not see them very often, they do not feel that "oooh shiny gotta have it" vibe. At a recent party, I wore a diving helmet, accumulator and fishbowl, and was a "bigger" hit at the party then the phat-wearing host. Treasure Trails are a powerful force, because there are seen commonly enough that people will want them. Trimmed armor, Gmauls, Black masks, boaters, etc. are valuable, b/c they are semi rare and visually cool. If there were a backbone, I would say it would say it is coal and logs. Coal and logs power the economy, and I do not see how the Grex can disrupt those markets significantly. Even with the rise in shop prices on nats, there was not too great an adjustment on nature prices. Ultimately, even if there is a crash, there is one economic safety net, and that is high alchemy. Prices on raw materials will not raise above the max costs to alch them. The obsessed 99er not included, most people are not willing to trade gp for exp. People want training that either pays for itself, or provides a small profit.
  2. try using a yellow dye, rather then green for the "green" dye.
  3. The other things to consider are the grimy herbs, skill share and infinites. With skill share, raw materials that were "relatively" worthless at a person's skill level, now become something useable. In the area of herblore, the higher end will boom. Sara brews and antifire pots are no longer out of people's reach. The cost of hunting monsters will drop. I suspect poison ivy will be the new farming bush of choice. The other area I see opening up in a big way, is the infinite shop stock. There are new and interesting ways to level in there, stews can easily be made via the shops, and at a fraction of the cost of lobsters. The real bottleneck is supply, but with the grand exchange, the ability to combine resources will make leveling even more easy.
  4. Pity there's no way to scrap the paint off a rune kite. I guess a new kite is in order.
  5. This is a dumb question, but here goes. A recent post about an ex member unwittingly uwielding his crystal shield in favor of a black kite got me thinking. If you have a member's object on--such as d-skirt or whip and you go to f2p, do they work?
  6. Maybe it's me, but back when I was 44, I tried pyramid and hated it. Between the need for waterskins and the sheer number of times I failed, It was rubbish in my opinion. I would suggest trying quests that give agility rewards and using dungeon until 50. I hate the dungeon, but its the best option between 44 and 50. Then at 50, switch over to wildy. The exp per hour there is fantastic. Sure there is a risk of death, but the exp can't be beat. Use the ardy lever, take boots of lightness, a spotted cape, and a crafting knife to slash the web and go crazy.
  7. I'm pushing from 60 to 70 range and cost-effective speed is my watchword. bone bolts are decent but slower then knives so I'm thinking of switching. With Smith-All and infinity feathers, darts are looking like a good option...but...speed is my need. I've worked with knives and they are wicked fast, but how does the speed of darts compare to knives?
  8. I have finally gotten my agility to 56 and and set to tackle undergound pass. I'm a little unsure on what equiptment to bring, b/c it seems that UP is one that banking isn't an option. My stats are Attack 70 Defence 70 Strength 70 Ranged 60 Prayer 52 Magic 71 Agility 56 Thieving 55 I'm working with a rune plate/boots/kite; Dlegs, Helm nieznot, god cape, glory, recoil ring, and whip. I'm using leather gloves rather then my rfd gloves b/c of the Clank's gauntlets. Which would be more useful, prayer/super attack pots or food? Sara brews are out of my price range. The walkthroughs suggest you can buy food during the quest. How much money should I bring for it? Also would "heal in sections" food such as cakes be better then monks or cheese potatos? Should I buy sharks? Thanks for the input!
  9. Unless you are safespot ranging them, they are a waste of time and food. Sure they drop scrolls, but I found the drop rate poor, plus they can hit pretty hard if your def is under 70. Add to that their only drop other then clues is bones, I would say skip it.
  10. Exactly, plus I think this could also help with "small infinites" market--that is, items that are infinite in stock but not stackable. For example limestone, stew ingredients, grapes, yak hides, etc. There is money in those markets, but its hard to find right now.
  11. Does anyone have suggestions on monsters with very low range def? Drops aren't an issue, merely speed of kills. Hellhounds, Fire Giants, Ogres, Blue Dragons, Jogres, and Giant Frogs have been mentioned, anyone have a favorite among them?
  12. Which would maximize my profits, to take all of the stuff puttering around in my account and sell it en-mass as a bank sale, or sell it via the forums by topic. One sale of gems, one of arrows, one of coal, logs, etc?
  13. Exactly! Thank you!
  14. Back in august there was a thread of different costumes people made with the new user outfits and hairstyles. Since search is down, could someone post a link to that thread asap? I have an in-game costume contest this evening, and am looking for a specific costume someone posted in there (Mr. T) Thanks!
  15. Also, make your own nats.
  16. I'm thinking of taking a break from runescape for school. I have less then 4 million floating around my account, but I'm a bit worried that the value of gp will drop while I'm away. Anyone have any suggestion on a item (other then rares or treasure trails) to invest in that might increase in value while I'm away.
  17. In terms of weapon effectiveness, vs cost which would be better Bronze or Iron/steel knives? Also how "fast" are bone bolts in comparison to knives or darts?
  18. mine gold, smelt, craft into bracelets, alch. 330 per bracelet. They pay for themselves and you make 30gp on the deal.
  19. Darn, there goes my fast free laws. Oh and one quick question, do you still need the seal of passage to bank on lunar island if you've completed the lunar diplomacy quest?
  20. Its been a little over a year since construction came out, perhaps more. Why haven't they come out with new rooms? Apart from the costume room, there's been no real focus on construction. Anyone care to share their thoughts?
  21. once you get it up, use fairy rings (CIP) and mine coal. I go once a day, and it takes 4 minutes at most.
  22. Apart from the trip to there, are there any risks in world hopping the rune seller in the mage arena? If there isn't, why don't more people do it?
