Well drops are based on pure luck mostly. Ring of wealth gives a slightly higher chance of getting a drop but it all boils down to pure real life luck.

Deadlocked is also called Gladiator. Completed Gladiator on the easiest difficulty a few times (mainly for skill points) and I'm playing on Exterminator now. (Hardest difficulty)
