your least favorite updates?

Although Jagex tries to make everyone happy, it can't please everyone.

However, what are your least favorite updates?

Mine are:

1. skill menu update

Prior to May 2001, we had two magic skills, good and evil magic. Jagex later decided to merge the skills, and the higher was kept. For example, if you had level 50 good magic and level 45 magic, you kept the good magic. However, the exp from the level 45 magic would have been discarded and was not kept. Even though I didn't lose any abilities, I lost the exp from my lower magic level. (I was around level 45 for both skills.) Level 45 magic is easy to get, but it was a lot to me back then. My skill total also went down, and I was a noob at the time, so I complained about not having 600+ skill total, LOL. (I'm 1691 right now. :D)

2. website and chat filter update

Due to abuse and resource issues, Jagex removed forums, links, and server status. Andrew also changed the chat filter so it only allows a limited dictionary, much like Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom. Fortunately, the chat filter update was removed the next day.

3. members

Unfortunately, Jagex can't keep RS free forever. After the launch of members, the free version rarely received updates. I was one of many people who complained, knowing that many of our parents would not let us pay. I'm now an adult and I can pay for myself, but I do feel bad for those younger f2p players who may not know about those get-paid-to-take-survey programs.

4. fletching update

Before the fletching update, regular logs gave more exp the higher your woodcutting level was. However, with new logs, regular lows were reduced to 25 exp, making leveling woodcutting very hard on the free version. This was somewhat compensates at the launch of RS2, where free users were given up to yews. Even then, it's not as fast as it used to be, as chopping yews takes a much longer time than regular logs.

5. fatigue

Jagex added this on RSC to deter cheaters, but it did nothing to stop the, In the meantime, it made things more difficult for legitimate players.

6. RS2

RS2 brought loads of new features, but I'll never forgive Jagex for neglecting RS Classic. Also, some of the challenges and fun of RSC, like dueling anywhere, automatic ore dropping, and the three round rule, as been removed. Note that I don't hate RS2 now.

7. Removal of RSC free version

Jagex removed the free version of RSC on August 3, 2005 due to cheaters. This caused most cheaters to move to RS2.

8. pure essence

Jagex tried to devalue regular essence, but unfortunately for Jagex (fortunately for us), the plan backfired, as regular essence didn't really drop in price. However, pure essence did move up in price - good for sellers, bad for runecrafters. many RCers now prefer to mine their own essence. Jagex also opened a new door to scamming - players switching pure essence with regular essence.

Some players also hate the Wilderness update, which Jagex probably added because too many people died after withdrawing from banks. Of course, a PvP server would solve this problem.

I would say either pure essence or the reversed colour-change in the skills tab... Orange did not look good at all... It hurt my eyes.

lol I totaly agree. I was talking with a friend of mine playing around 11 at night and his parents didn't know/would have killed had they cought him, and I was talking about.

I ended up saying something like agghh!!!!! Pain to eyeballs!!!! right when he was drinking something and he ended up shotting pop out of his mouth all of screen, desk and wall. All of this when he was trying to be supper quite.

So glad they fixed that.

Another horible update = pure ess. Just moved the autoers from ess to yews.

Music & Sounds

I just don't use them...

Pointless Quests

Of which, there are many

Hunting Skill

I love the release of new skills, but this one was such a major let down.

Sorceress Garden

It's not any faster than Pyramid Pludner and as such, is a completely pointless and needless update.

Barbarian Assault

A truly awful minigame. No experience and virtually no chance of a good reward.

Hidden Updates

This is my most hated update of all... the ones that Jagex don't bother mentioning. i.e. they decide to reduce Dchain drops from Dust Devils from 1:10k to 1:20k (so I spend a month there for nothing). Or the constantly reduced drop odds of items like whips.
