magsec4
I was just wondering if anyone still plays them... I'm kind of developing my own text-based MMORPG as something to do in my spare time (because I've always wanted to put my knowledge of PHP to better use than just making a news script for my website)... My game is almost ready for a public beta test, but I'm wondering if I should still continue developing it, because it might not be worth it if nobody would want to play. In case anyone's wondering, gameplay will be similar to OGame (if you've ever played that) except players will be get to run their own medieval fantasy cities, build up armies, fight other cities, etc... Reply back if you play text-based MMORPGs (or if you don't and still want to chat) and why :) .

Continuum
Pssst, they're called MUDs. And I do occasionally, Aetolia. One of IronRealm's fine games.
Harrington
I used to be heavily into a couple of text based games a few years ago, but I don't think they exist anymore. Planterian & Imperial Conflict Anyone else play those?
____
Playing Travian and Arenascape right now.
BlueLancer
DragonMud (mud: multi-user-dungeon) I played that as a kid when I barely knew anything about computers (no graphical user interface either back then). That game probably doesn't exist anymore. Pure text based RPG.
stevepole
I personly hate text based games. I need a visual to keep my attention.
biox
Slightly OT.. I was reading a book on the history of video games recently and it inspired me to get out the old emu with Zork I on it.. what a perfect game, if you added a graphical front-end to it and extended the map a helluva lot, you'd have an RPG every bit as comparable to a new game of the same genre. Korla
Pssst, they're called MUDs No, as someone pointed out that would be a multi-user-dungeon. A too narrow definition of a text-based MMORPG. Playing Travian and Arenascape right now. Ditto, your game sounds like travian, go to travian.com if you want some inspiration (it's a great game aswell)
Continuum
Multi User Dimension, Multi User Dungeon, Multi User Domain, aka MMORPG (massive multiplayer online roleplaying game) but on a smaller scale. Usually textbased although a few have graphics and/or sounds. Many MUDs have built in themes. UD pwns your soul. :P Besides, IronRealms is basically the God of "text-based MMORPG"s, and they call their games MUDs. So more proof there. adam_ross0
I like text based...I prefer Graphical MUDs though..I know one that plays just like a text based with Gr4ff1x..but..it's been down for a while. Supposed to be up by the end of the month though :

tru_vampire0
Sometimes when I'm bored with RuneScape, which rarely happens, I play ArenaScape or Kingdom of Loathing. But then I get bored with those even faster and go back to RS. :D When I Have It, It's the World's. When I Don't Have It, The World Is Mine. dsavi
I never seriously played any text-based mmorpgs, I'm from the new generation that doesn't like 'em. We need graphics to keep our attention, as someone said.
dsavi
I never really played text-based mmorpgs seriously, and I don't really like 'em anyway. I'm form the new generation that needs graphics to keep our attention, and they better be good ones at that.

Umega
I used to play a lot of web-browser games before I found Runescape. My favourite one (and probably the only game I was actually good at) was called Dragon Soldier. I doubt it exists now. No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.
