Nickelliston
Hi, in runescape every day, I see high levels ignoring low levels for no reason other than their combat levels. I see high levels being arrogant to everyone in an area until an even higher level arrives and I see low levels begging to the one high level in an area when there are several other medium level players there. I challange anyone to say that they approve of these things. I think that the reason that these thing occur is that players judge other players purely on their combat levels. My solution to these things is to stop showing the combat levels of players where they are of no consequence. For example, combat levels would be shown in combat mini-games such as castle wars and pest-control, the wilderness and the dueling arena but they wouldn't be shown in banks for example. This would also stop people being prejudiced towards people when they're fighting monsters. However, I think that it is a basic desire of people to measure themselves against fellow players. For example, I love looking at other people's banks. This is why I think that if any level is shown to other players, it should be total level or total experience as these show the amount of time players have put into runescape. If you agree or disagree with this then please say so that we can discuss it but please don't flame. Thanks! My friend you would not tell with such high zest / to children ardent for some desperate glory / the old lie: Dulce et decorum est / pro patria mori. These 'noobs' are not people as such, they are soulless creations of corporate greed. SanFranciscoGiants
How would you "turn the level off"? You need it for pest control clans. Some people like to show theyre combat level. I dont support, sorry.
Nickelliston
That's fine and I'm glad that you gave your reasons but as I said, it would be shown at pest-control. Mashour2
I totally agree with you!!! Its on the inside not out. People think every high level is nice but that is WRONG :shame: ! My lvl 23 friend is real nice and isnt a lazy guy. So high levels think they are so great and all but they are losers. Those son of a gun high levels are sometimes nice but they brag too much. (ps im lvl 63 so dont say im a noob, because im saying hes right)

(ps im lvl 63 so dont say im a noob, because im saying hes right) TBH, I pretty much dont speak to anyone who follows me and asks me for things. I never did it at level 30 and below so I dont see why others have the right to do it to me now. A couple of days ago a level 99 started following me (I'm only level 100), I told him to go away but even though he is only level 99 he still decided to throw abuse at me because I wouldn't help him, and because I was higher level. I have my own game to play, not someone elses! If they need help, they have Tip.It which I've done my part in improving, and is why I dont help that many people in-game. Seems fair doesn't it? When I was only low level, I used fansites for help. I didn't wander around begging for free stuff or followed higher levels for practically nothing! I have many low level friends that I met years ago and I give them advice because I've known them for so long. But dont think that just because a higher level you ask a question is a snob, its because they dont know you. You wouldn't ask a person in the street in real life on how to make some quick cash so why do people expect anything different on RuneScape. Okay, I've had my little rant about low levels discriminating against high levels. I disagree with your suggestion about hiding combat level, I just think people need to realise that higher level players are not there for their assistance. People have to help themselves, which is what it's like in the real world. Once you reach level 100+ you will realise what a pain it is to have others follow you, beg from you, or constantly ask how you make your money(which is why I sold my full drag). RayOxide
I'd say, it should be under the tools button, and it should automatically come on when in wild... Also, What's "Pest Control" [Not been on forums for so long...] I dont need a siggy no moar.
Nickelliston
Pest-control is a combat mini game where a group of players has to destroy 4 portals which spawn creatures. Check out the mini-game guide. menuwa
I think this would make war.. People would go "Show your combat level! Noob!" Which would be total chaos. So I do not support, sorry...
Hevendor_Guy
No support. If someone doesn't like you because your combat level sucks, then ignore them. Not that hard. There's cake through here, apparently.
godofheaven4
I would say half and half... I agree with it, because It's a very nice idea, to not get made fun of because of your combat level. On the other hand, you do also have the occasional hide/off public chat... However, it's a very nice idea to let people choose wether to show the combat or not. I would agree with this one. Irish_Geek
The day when they started showing combat levels is when name calling spawned. That was the worst update imo. I belive you should be able to display what you want, as in instead of always displaying (combat-3) you could show other skills, like (fishing-76) or (cooking-98). Quality posting at its finest. Harrington
Variations of this theme have been suggested quite a few times before. I'm not against it or anything, but I just don't see Jagex ever changing it since combat levels have always been the visible level since the games conception. nomar04
actually, when the game first came out, it didnt show the levels until you got close to the wild. it didnt work, because people just bragged about how high their level was, and there was no proof. it also didn't work when you wanted to fight someone, because you wouldnt know their level until you get into the wild. i dont support, because i know first hand that it doesnt work. godofheaven4
Oh one more thing to add on to what I said earlier... It's about the bad part... What about autoers? I know they wont be responsive, but It'd be annoying to see if they are really level 3 autoers... or just regular people who work hard, but are non responsive at the same time. But I still support... \ This statement is true. Below is false. This statement is false. Above is true. Both statements above are contrapositive. The below is false.Life's a mystery... ain't it? scootlaboot
I don't support for two reasons. 1. Low levels will say their really strong and brag about their supposed levels. 2.If your a skiller just ignore the noobs and tell them to go look you up in the high scores. If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person. Canuk00
Think about all of the level 126's who have worked so hard to get to that level. Im sure that I would want to show off my hard work with being the highest combat level you could possibly reach.
waffle326
I do think this is a good idea, but if it were ever to be put into play in the game, players would just find other ways to discriminate against their fellow players. "Haha he's wearing iron!! Noob!!!" or the like. One of the biggest prejudices in the real world is color. If somehow we discovered a way to make all people white, we would find a new and more volatile way of discriminating against eachother. (Don't take that as racism. I am not racist. I hate racism. It's just an example.) But, as I said, I like the idea. I just felt like putting an argumentative point out there. I don't know why. It'd be best not to ask. :) Thanks. For those who said about high levels wanting to show off or low levels claiming to be a high level: There could be an on/off sort of button. If you want to show off your level you worked hard for, set it to on. And for those low levels claiming high levels, they would just have to try to prove it to you. If they don't show you their level, assume they're low-level. The default would be off, though. "mmm... i like waffles"... i get that alot. so i say..."I do, too!!!" ikraz66
I can solve all the counterarguments in this topic with a new idea. Instead of showing combat level, we should see TOTAL level. Unlike combat level, which is arbitrary and can be manipulated by pures and others, total level shows everyone exactly how much of a nerd you are :P Proud owner of a Quest cape!
