fakeitormakeit
Hello to all reading this. As you can tell in the title thsi has something to do with family history, but it isn't mine. I'm bored and I enjoy reading history about other people from their point of views so ya, post interesting stories about your family's history, [hide=Example] This is a story about My family going back to my great grandparents on my dad's side , my graet grandmother came from egypt and my great grandfather came from greece and they met in Sudan which was an english occupied area at the time, they had 10 kids, the 6th being my grandmother and she married a lebonese man who became my grandfather and they had 1 child and they spoke Italian, French, English, Arabiac, Greek. They forged a sucessful life but then had to flee the country when the English moved out because the Muslims threatened to kill them and they were not allowed to take any items with them so they gave their money to freinds and burned all their pictures and fled to Italy were they then moved to USA where they were suppose to stay while they waited to move to Canada, Australia, England or Italy but never did because my dad met my mother.(they regret not moving because I have hundreds of cousins in those areas).[/hide] Please post, I'm interested to hear about your family. Giordano
My great-great grandfather farmed in southern Italy. One day a bigger farmer (as in financially) shut down the water leading down the hill, where my great-great grandfather's farm was at. He went up to see the bigger-farmer and after a confrontation, the farmer shot his gun to my great-great grandfather but missed and my great-great grandfather shot back killing the guy. Now my great-great grandfather had to leave the country to aviod being caught. So him and a friend took the a boat from Naples to Buenos Aires, Argentina. My great-great grandfather had to be hidden in a crate until they left Italian waters since they only had money to buy one ticket. :P My great-great grandfather met my great-great grandmother, married, had my great-grandfather which in turn had my grandfather which in turn again had my father. So he moved to California with my aunt and her husband. My mother (my dad's girlfriend at the moment) came shortly after. They decided to stay while my aunt and uncle went back to Argentina and you can predict what happens next. :) "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is." hohto
There's a huge a large history made from my mom's side of the family. Sums up over 1000 relatives, first ones from 17th century. Of course from earlier ones there's nothing much for obvious reasons, but the closer to today we come, the more information is about the persons. Basically from my mother's side I'm a pure blooded Finn with a proof. Many war heroes from that side, even some pretty high ranked ones. From my dad's side same kind of research isn't done, but it's known that from that side there was pretty wealthy swedish speaking people. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm

ThurinEthir
I don't much either, but I'll try. My dad's parents are from the Hong Kong/Macao area. My dad's dad was in the Chinese army (I think) for a while. He was also an auto mechanic. My dad was born in Hong Kong while it was under British rule - So he has a British passport and a slight British accent. He's the fourth oldest child in his family. My mom's side is from Taiwan. Obviously, Taiwanese people have Chinese roots. So yes, my mom's side is still somewhat Chinese. My mom's mom was born and raised in Taiwan (I think) and is a famous (In Taiwan, at least) oil painter. Due to WWII (Or was it another war?), some Japanese culture still resides in her. My mom was born and raised near Taichung. She's also the fourth oldest in her family. Both my parents entered the medical field. My mom was a psychiatrist/psychologist (Forget which) and my dad a doctor, now a pharmacoepidemiologist (Sp?). He's one of the head pharmacoepidemisologists at the Harvard School of Public Health. Anyways, they met in the psych ward of the hospital they both used to work at. I forget it's name, but it's the same hospital where I was born. They moved the USA some time later on, and my sister was born in Boston. They moved numerous times after that...Within Massachusetts, as well as to places such as New Jersey. They eventually moved back to Taipei, Taiwan, where I was born. After another move within Taipei, we moved here, to the Boston area. We've lived here since then. As for uncles, aunts and cousins, they're pretty spread out. My dad's side is mainly in Mississauga and my mom's side in Taiwan. My family is pretty much your normal Chinese immigrant family. mad4u689
My great-grandmother (Grandma Lucy) lived in Romania, in a small Jewish ghetto kind of town, around the turn of the century. She was just a little girl - about six or so. But things were getting worse for the Jews at this time, and the Russians were coming in and "pogroms" started happening. One day, they came into the town, and shot Lucy's brother (he was much older - almost 20) in some not-vital part of his body. However, they dragged him into the village square, bleeding. They announced that anybody who tried to touch him or help him would be shot to death. My great-grandmother Lucy was forced to watch over the next 24 hours as he bled to death, and nobody dared do anything, with the Cossacks right there. Very soon after, she and the rest of her family moved to America, to New York - to Jamaica, Queens. The next couple of generations of the family grew up there :D On the other side of my maternal family, my great-grandfather in the late nineteenth century was already living in America, and was kind of an adventurer and traveled around a lot, mainly on the West Coast - Nevada and California. He had a small jeans shop for a while that he did pretty good business on. However, the most exciting part of his life was the time he spend as the last free tribes of Native Americans were dying out - he fought with them. Not against them - he fought WITH the Native Americans against the American troops that were being so unjust. I think we still have a belt they gave him somewhere :D On my dad's side of the family, no really exciting stories. Typical Jewish ghettos in Austria-Hungary and Romania and Poland, and moved to America a bit after the turn of the century. My dad grew up in a small apartment in Brooklyn, where his parents thought him the star of the neighbourhood and hoped he might go to Queens College, but an English teacher in his high school encouraged him to aim for higher since he was 2nd in his class of 500, and suggested he apply to some Ivy League schools. He figured, sure, why not - and wound up going to Yale University for undergrad, then Harvard med school :D So he's something of a success story, I think :D Everybody hug and spread the love :D

(the name he was given, not your last name or anything) I know that my Great Grandad fought in the First World War and survived with his brother. However that's all I know, I think I need to start finding out more though as it's very interesting to understand more about your family.
Guest
Well my family has a strong background in the history of Australia. My Dad's Side of the family dates back to the first fleet, and they were convicts on the boat. (So far enough back I have English in Me! **Spews** :-X :P ) My Great Great Great Grandfather discovered a Gold Mine in Ballarat (iirc ... but I know it was somewhere in Victoria). My Great Great Grandparents were famous horse riders of the time but don't know much more about that. And my Great Grandparents (this all being on my Dad's side) were workers on some important rail road link in the country. They were pretty much Aussie Battlers who were hard workers through hard times. Edit: How did I forget we won the Victorian Cross for Bravery in WWI as well. Pretty massive honor to get that. His last name was Howe. And my Granddad fought on the Kakoda Track for Australia in World War II. On my Mum's side though its just pretty much just Dutch and Albanian heritage (nothing to interesting though). I like the Aussie side more! :D

I also have Persian blood too. I suspect my ancestors on my mother's side were Hindus about 500+ years ago. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar! Tigra00
I'm related to Laura Ingles Wilder somehow, but I've never found out exactly how, since her daughter never hd children, but her daughter DID adopt, so it's apparently not blood-relation. :P The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me! Phil
Father's side of the family - my great great grandfather lived on the west coast of Ireland (farming or some such thing) moved to Scotland in the 19th century. My aunt recently looked more into this side of the tree and knows more than I do. Mother's side - has ties to Worcestor and borders of Scotland areas. Some semi-famous sculptors in the 19th century also I believe.
Diesel
I was gonna post a new topic about this, but I searched it and found this one sooo.... My mom's side is very big on researching their family tree. So far, we've gone as far back as 1640. I was surprised to see that my family is cool! Highlights: Have ancestors who fought in the American Revolution, War of 1812, both sides of the Civil War, and every war since. I am a decendant of Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the United States I am also related to a member of the infamous "Dalton Gang". Here's their Article:Dalton Gang One of my ancestors was part of Danial Boone's group after serving in the Revolutionary War. If you don't know Daniel Boone, here is his Wikipedia article: Daniel Boone Another of my ancestors was a good friend of Chief Logan of the Mingo tribe. Here's his Wikipedia article: Chief Logan We've hired someone to research more, so I may have to update this in the future. Happy Tree Hunting! Satenza
Theres quite a few interesting people from my family. One that i find the most interesting is a relative of mine who was rivaled by Billy the Kid as the wildest in the west. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
Ard_Choille
I'm a hybrid, of sorts...but here is some history of a portion of my being... The Clan MacGregor or Gregor is a Highland Scottish clan. Motto: 'S rioghal mo dhream (Royal is my race) Slogan/Battle Cry: Ard Choille Clan members were called "Children of the Mist" as they were said to be able to disappear into the Highland fog at will. MacGregor History The MacGregor's motto 'My blood is royal' is their claim to royal descent. The clan were one of the most famous victims of the Clan Campbell's expansionism. It held lands in Glenstrae, Glenlochy and Glenorchy. With the capture of Iain MacGregor in 1296, his property was passed to the Campbell Clan. They were pushed further into Glenstrae. From then on began the clan's survival as an independent tribe with the Campbells setting up rival line to Gregor MacGregor. After a series of incidents the entire clan had been outlawed by 1604 and it became a capital offence to bear their name. They had become the 'Children of the Mist'. The persecution ended in 1774. General John Murray of Lanark was appointed chief and re-established the clan - - My deviantART Page - -
