Why is Jagex pushing boring skills in order to advance?

Featured Replies

Well I recently started a pure and I'm trying to get him to ancients but the skills I just ignored such as fire making, thieving on my main as I had them are actually required for dt and probably lvl 10-20 in 5 other skills just to satisfy the required completed quests. People who want to enjoy the fun of spending 3 hours of clicking on logs can do that but I for once would like to stay on what I want to train and not have to satisfy some pointless quest requirements.

The essence of the game are the quests. Requirements are obvious.

If you just want PVP go play Guildwars or WoW or something...

then you'll have to do without the quests rewards.

Maybe so there is some kind of sense of acheivement in doing quests with high requirements, especially in skills you dont like.

well firemaking is one of the fastest skills in the game, and you could get it to 50 in about a hour I think. And obviously someone must think it's fun, otherwise there wouldnt be 2000+ people with the lvl 99 cape, and even a few people with 200 mil exp in firemaking  !

Proud owner of a Quest cape!

Well obviously they forgot about the people who just want instant gratification with no grind.

Well if you wont train firemaking and theiving then no Ancients for you, simple as that.

LOL! This must be a joke. Okay... If you already knew about it, why did you payed?

In the other words we should be able to create our own items, autocomplete quests and change our stats in P2P just because we've paid them the monthly fee? When you sign up for membership, you pay for the extra features there. This does not mean you would be a god or something.

Because I'm not going to quit the game over it, its not a tragedy lol just an inconvenience and it doesn't answer my question, why..

So, just because you pay it means you want something like an automatic level 99 button?

The reward of getting Ancients is such an achievement because of all the requirements it takes to get (although to be honest the requirements for it aren't exactly hard..). You can't expect great rewards for doing nothing.. :|

Because Jagex likes to think people have to WORK for their goals.

Just because you feel those skills are boring doesn't mean every one does. Jagex isn't forcing you to train those skills, and saying you cant enjoy a certain aspect of the game because getting to that point is "boring" is like me saying I cant enjoy ancients because I don't have enough money and think making money is boring.

Well, they have. ::'

Dude, your thread is nothing but a rant.

People in WoW pay 1$ a month, and they don't go around wearing "I'm special" T-Shirts.

Nobody else is complaining about it. No one likes a member that thinks he should get special treatment just because they pay.

POG3.jpg

Pretty much what Dragon said.

Thread terminated.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post.

Because in one part of the quest you have to light these big torches, so you need to know something about firemaking to light them.

You could correlate this instant gratification without work to driving - you're never going to get your license until you get your permit, and you'll never get your permit until you practice enough with driving.

If you think that these skills are boring, YET you paid to play the game, then you probably shouldn't have paid. Go be lazy in some other game.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

Well I recently started a pure and I'm trying to get him to ancients but the skills I just ignored such as fire making, thieving on my main as I had them are actually required for dt and probably lvl 10-20 in 5 other skills just to satisfy the required completed quests. Sorry but this is the most pathetic post ive read

THIS GAME ISN'T MADE FOR PURES AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE A SKILL TUFF LUCK.

because, jagex personally doesn't like you and is going to try and make your life miserable

because skills are the essense of rs along with quests

Check out my 50M+ Blog

I like to think of pures (where pure applies to non-combat skills aswell) as an excuse for not leveling the non-combat skills. I abhor farming, yet I still managed to exceed the garden of tranquiluty reqirments from the sheer desire to get the ring os charos (a). I even figured out how to train constuction for free, Tears of Guthix all the way  . Point is, if you wan't ancients that much, you'll go out and get the levels you need.

...but I for once would like to stay on what I want to train and not have to satisfy some pointless quest requirements.

IMHO,

Personally, I always thought that Jagex put in "pointless" skills to make up for a lack of game content.

From Jagex's perspective, the endless grinding required to raise skills is an easy way to keep you busy, playing, and paying.

Remember that most skills were in the game way back in RSC and most

quests did not have a multiple skill requirement.

Many skills were, essentially, pointless (other than skill total).

Jagex has now created a "need" for some skills by designing quests that require certain levels.

Some skills are now useful long (years) after the skill was first introduced.

Compare that to Atk, Str, Def, Prayer, Cooking, Magic, Ranging, mining, smithing, etc.

Those skills were useful from the very start.

RS is a game that is always under development and, sometimes, sections

of the game may sight idle for a long time before coming into use.

For example, consider the "Elf city" on the west edge of members.

But my impression is that Jagex just threw a bunch of stuff together

to keep us pointlessly busy.

Other games, EQ, WoW, GW, etc release big, $$, content filled expansions

to provide players with something new to do.

They have thousands of quests compared to 200 or so for RS.

But in RS, Jagex gives us skill grinding instead...

There just trying to Broaden Runescape, make things less easy.

Ah, another, "I don't want to work hard to earn good rewards," post.

When are you going to realize this game doesn't revolve around pures nor your own needs in general.

Lots of people like the skills you just mentioned. Just because you find them boring doesn't mean other do. How pompous of you.
