Nadril can help you out with the really really heavy stuff. I'll try to find you some stuff in a minute as well.

Well, what is heavy? I could give some of my personal taste. I'm more of the melodic death/powermetal, general powermetal, gothic metal, such stuff. Some trash metal aswell.

Generalizing: All metalbands coming from scandinavia rock. If you're looking for good metal, check in that region, especially Sweden has a lot of good bands.

Now, some of my favorites:

Cradle of Filth, Dark Tranquility, Diablo(!), Dragonforce, In Flames(!), Megadeth, Slayer(!)

The !'s are what I'd recommend most.

Behemoth, Nile, the Black Dahlia Murder, Burzum, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Satyricon (I think), Job for a Cowboy, and that's all I can think of. But seriously, that will be enough for you, because if you want to find out more, you can just search for similar artists in last.fm (every music-lover's friend).

Cool.

Make sure its old Satyricon though, Now, Diabloical is sounding a lot less metal.

Gorgoroth

Emperor

Ancient

At the Gates

Arch Enemy

Bathory ( I havn't listened to the newer stuff, but the album Under the Sign of the Black Mark is a black metal album.)

To throw a few out there... What you define hardcore and what I define hardcore... Idk, but you can test a few of their songs and go from there.

As Blood Runs Black - Great drums and guitar.

Job For A Cowboy - Yeah..

Waking The Cadaver - If you don't like ^, you won't like this.

Ah, I love that band so much. I'm trying to learn Selkies the Endless Obsession on guitar. I have the first four and a half minutes (I think) down, and I'm working on the first solo at the moment. Fun.

Cool.

Mastodon. They're hard, but they actually make good music instead of just being hard.

Could you be a bit more specific? If you want brutal metal (e.g. crushing riffs, growling/grunting vocals, drum blast beats and [cabbage]) then you would go for things like Behemoth, Aborted, Cannibal Corpse (meh), Bloodbath, Kronos, Demigod, Aeon, Decapitated. Or do you mean metalcore? (also known as hardcore metal) I hate this stuff, but bleh whatever, some bands you can check out if you meant this are: Killswitch Engage, Bullet For My Valentine, Chimaira, Trivium... don't know many metalcore bands.
