Player mods, do they even help?

Recommended Posts

Okay player mods are players chosen to be mods to HELP with rule breakers

yet most of the time they dont.

I bet half of the people chosen to be mods dont report a single person after and just want it for the 'status' or to be able to sell things easier on crowded worlds.

Now dont get me wrong ive seen pmods go out of their way to go and mute someone spamming a scam website or using some lame password scam, and those are the ones that help.

Im not putting player mods down at all and those who help i and others appreciate it but i think there should be some kind of rule so if your a player mod and havent reported so many people that actually broke the rules in say a month or two then you lose your mod status and if maybe your on vacation or took a break from rs the moment you become active you have so much time to report people.

I dont think that would be too hard and thats why pmods are given the status right?

Once again im not putting down mods at all cause i know there are quite a few good ones and have a few of them as my friends as well. :)

after today, logging into f2p with a long time mate of mine. him in his green party hat and me in my santa hat. a lvl 65 player mod began to ... noob it up on us, example.

(omg dude can i see your guys's hats, how much is it, whered you get it, *follows* , drawing a crowd of noobs, thus began the verbal abuse, wow thanks player mod)

i feel very uneasy about jagex's selection system now. i wish they had set time a player would have to play before becoming a mod.

If you didn't report a single person after becoming a mod, I'd say you'd not be mod much longer. Most people who become mod don't report to become a mod, they report people to make the game a better place. Wanna-be mods rarely become mods because like it says many times, Jagex doesn't accept requests to be made a mod. Everyone has had a bad experience with a p-mod, and everyone makes mistakes. Yes, that includes Jagex. Lots of mods lose modship, some of the ones you have had bad experiences with probably have too. Deal with it, and move on.

I definitely don't think that 1-2 month thing will happen but for all we know Jagex might have that kind of thing in play already. They also could already have a time limit for amount of time you have to play to become mod, like wilcher suggested. Who knows (other than jagex)?

Jagex does make mistakes in choosing their mods, but I definitely don't think the people who go around reporting people just to be a mod, or help people in front of mods hoping to get praised will become a pmod. No one likes wanna be's.

I guess cause I never saw the need. I also felt that if I moved into the version of the game that was always changing that it would in some way invalidate the work that I had already put into my account.

Im afraid I have to disagree with you on that one, there are a lot of players who only report to become a mod.

Oh and I know the one or two month thing wont happen im just saying something like it should be put in to get rid of mods that dont help.

it depends on the mod. some mods would bother to spend some time reporting rulebreakers in crowded worlds. other wouldnt even give a hoot about their purpose of becoming one. nothing to stereotype about.

The problem that player mods have is that some players automatically think they should immediately drop everything they are doing so someone can complain about how a friend of theirs was scammed, or how they lost 20 million gps by being scammed, or even that someone tried to over charge them an hour earlier...

Players forget that player mods are Players first. They are not there to handle hacking issues. Jagex handles that. They are not there to handle scam issues, UNLESS they see it happen. They are not going to report someone for charging a little more gps than someone else.

Player mods do not get paid to monitor the game. They play they game. As they are playing, if they see something happen, then they can report.

99 percent of all player mods are good people. The 1 percent are dealt with by Jagex. Imagine how bad things would get if we didn't have player mods again. I shutter at the thought.

Oh, I acknowledge that, there are tons of wanna be mods. I just don't really think that many of them actually become a p-mod. Usually they get bored then go back to breaking rules. I'm just saying that a lot of mods I've met, myself included, didn't expect to be made a mod.

While there are noob mods out there, I've only ever met one. Every other mod I have met are mature and intelligent, and do not abuse their position at all.

how can you assume that they dont do anything? the fact that they do take actions is that you dont see the person they muted scamming or whatever...

i happen to know for a fact that player mods do do their jobs and pretty well at that.

and to leapfrog yeah i get what your saying, a lot of people think they can just stand around reporting rule breakers for an hour and they'll get invited to be a mod.

EDIT: once again im not saying all mods dont do anything theres just some that want it so that they have the status, yes i know there are a lot that do help and i stated that but there are quite a few that dont do anything to help and just want it to say their a mod.

That's true for me too, I never really expected/wanted to be a mod, it was not something I was striving for.

But on-topic, it's not necessarily that mods don't report people like they should, it's mainly because most of the things people believe we can report for, we really can't. Also, I've seen people complain to me about how I'm a terrible mod because I don't report all the autoers on f2p. But like someone else here said, player before moderator. We're not obliged to help someone in need if it interferes with our player needs (for example, if some player is telling me to come to varrock to report some scammers, I don't have to go there, I can say no I'm busy and it wouldn't be a crime).

just a question tho, but couldnt this topic be used on any random person? you either report, or you dont...

i know some pmods, but they dont sit still and do nothing, one of them checks the botter spawns daily, before doing anything else for themselves

not everyone is the same, same stuff with pmods

you will always have bad apples

Take your time to post on my blog please!

The question is more if player mods were chosen to deal with rule breakers, why would they have silver crowns next to their name which usually make item scammers and other rulebreakers hop worlds or move to other areas to continue their schemes :-k

Some mods like [not saying his name] got his Moderatorship removed for not reporting anyone in 7 months. He is one of my friends but he just wanted the crown to gain friendship.

Some moderators are very nice but they are rare some do their job and play the game but it's the bad ones that we remember and notice.

I've noticed a HUGE difference between forum moderators and player moderators. The forum moderators seem more mature but maybe it's just the ones i see actually doing something.

But it's just the bad ones that stand out.
