Futurama
I like to think i'm rather level headed, but tonight I learned a valuable lesson. Never trust one of your drunk friends to tell you how drunk they are. Now this may seem obvious but I tend not to realise it at the time. Myself, my girlfriend, her best friend and another friend went out for a meal, as we often do on a friday. Seeing as the weather is great, we decided to get a cab back to mine and start drinking in the garden. One turned into two, two turned into an empty 1L bottle of vodka. Now, when someone says they're not drunk and precedes to laugh, chances are, they are, and that's when you take the booze away - especially at 2am, when they're stopping at your house. We all chill out in my bedroom for an hour, and 5 minutes after we hit the lights, we hear a cry of terror from the floor. It was my girlfriend's best mate, who narrowly missed being covered in puke. We've spent a few hours cleaning the spare mattress, carpet and looking after my friend who seems to be having a constant out of body experience. It's now 6:20am and I'm not allowed to sleep until around 10 when I can get the bus to a friends house to make sure my mate gets home okay. Today has officially been the first sunrise i've seen this summer and i'm, to be blunt, nackered. Moral of the story, when it's obvious someone's plastered, don't let them carry on drinking. Smokie
No kidding. One of my friends got violent on me. I became [angry] and I let him drive anyway (some guilt trips followed). He got pulled over by the cops later (he was swerving), blood alcohol of .18 :wall:. He's a pretty heavy drinker so he didn't pass out, but he was bedridden the next day. Another random, morbid thought: It's always shocking to show up to school/work and find out that two of your classmates/coworkers are dead in an alcohol-related accident. By the way - how do you say 'Worcestershire'? As a product of the American public education system, I am quite unable to pronounce many British proper names. One of my high school English teachers said it once, but the particular pronunciation escapes my memory.
Peter
It's one of those mistakes you only make once. Even worse is when you're like him, get to sleep around 3am, wake up around 6am, and proceed to work the next day. I'll spare you the details and add to the point you're trying to make. Don't drink too much, and don't do it on an empty stomach. Drink equal parts water to alcohol, and throw in an ibuprofen for good measure.
____
Sometimes you can get that result - or worse - without them drinking too much. Isn't that right Mel :(
Bubsa
Thanks Rob. I can't say I've learnt anything, but I had a good giggle at your expense. ^-^ This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
speedofsound
Nackared, hehe, that made me giggle. Anyways, thats just common sense! You learnt your lesson but honestly, I think a person like you would know enough not to let it happen in the first place. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you." Satenza
Pft, my friends did that to me. It wasn't fun the next day. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
dutchdreams
Little addition to the good advice: Never put an intoxicated individual on his back to sleep. If he/she's too far gone and vomits in his sleep, he might choke on it without waking up. First lead singer of AC/DC, Bon Scott, was rumored to have died like that. John Bonham drummer from Led Zepp died like that, thats the reason they broke up, didn't want to carry on without him. :P Drinking to excess is all good as long as you can handle your drink somewhat. I did some things I am ashamed of in town last night. Haha.
Nero
That kind of reminds me of the time my brother and his friend were trying to carry another one of their drunk passed out friends down the stairs. Also saw the sunrise that morning. :XD: Vienna Raszyn Warsaw Klushino

Peter
Im too young to drink and I took a vow never to drink under ANY circumstances. It seems weird now, but in the long run you will know why I did it.(hey look Im driving and im dru-- aaahhhh!!!!!*crash*) Because when you drink you're always compelled to drive. Yeah, that's a little exaggerated. I vowed that when I drink, I won't drive. There are always options, and a smart person will do these things first: 1. Have a designated driver. Someone who won't drink, but is fun to be around and is willing to drive you and keep you reasonably safe. 2. Sleep where you drink. Most times people who's house you drink at don't care if you crash on the couch for the night. 3. Call a cab. Costs a little bit of money, but a DUI costs more, and an accident due to being under the influence is an incredible cost. Tonight I went out and was designated driver for some friends. I didn't plan on it being that way, but they needed it so I offered. Fortunately everyone just stayed at the house, but I'm glad I was there if they needed me, and I had a good time. Being one of the few sober people at a party is actually just as fun as being one of the many not sober people. Now, a story. Kid I knew pretty well in high school and his best friend were out partying, and both were drunk and the kid I knew was driving. I knew he was stupid enough to do it, but I didn't think it would happen like it did: He rolled his car, his friend was thrown from the open window (no seatbelt) and killed. But it's not one life ruined, it's two. Last I heard he was still in jail, and it's been a few months now. It was an eye opener for a lot of people, but kids who partied with them still go out and drink and drive. I just heard of one of their friends getting a DUI recently, and I just don't understand it. Maybe they need to kill someone when drunk to understand that they aren't supposed to drink and drive.
